The heroine of the series, Sakura wanders in her father's basement one day and accidentally sets loose a deck of nineteen/[[AdaptationExpansion fifty-two]] tarot-like magical cards, each containing a magical spirit, into the wild. Annoyed, the book's guardian Cerberus (Kero-chan) declares her the new Cardcaptor who has to track them down and recapture them. Tagging along on the chase is her best friend Tomoyo and [[TheRival rival]] Syaoran.
----
* AccidentallyBrokeTheMacGuffin: The entire series is kicked off when she accidentally sets the Clow Cards loose on Tomoeda.
* AchievementsInIgnorance: It's revealed in Chapter 23 of ''Clear Card'' that [[spoiler:she's been creating the Clear Cards without even realizing it, due to her continually growing power.]]
* ActionFashionista: Enforced on her by others. Her best friend Tomoyo is explicitly stated to make Sakura a new costume for every single clow card incident (of which there are fifty-two clow cards, though a few were caught in the same chapter/episode). She herself doesn't particularly care for the outfits, except for the times when she had to fight in her school uniform, but she does it to keep Tomoyo and her [[WeaselMascot mentor animal]] Kero-chan happy.
* ActionGirl: Less so than Mei Ling, but she's still fighting magical creatures. It's understandable since she hasn't been ''specifically'' trained in martial arts.
* AllegedLookalikes: Sakura is said to resemble Nadeshiko a lot in looks and personality, so much that Masaki and Sonomi are initially drawn to her because of it and often comment on her growing resemblance almost every time they meet. However, in terms of design she doesn't look much like Nadeshiko aside from inheriting her green eyes.
* AllLovingHeroine: She simply loves everyone and it's stated several times that they love her back. She also has quite a streak for granting second chances (even to the Nothing Card that had just erased everyone she knew and loved from existence), [[DefrostingIceKing defrosting several ice kings]] and wanting the best for her loved ones even if at her own expense.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Syaoran and Meiling, at least in their initial goals (capturing cards and Syaoran's heart, respectively). Otherwise she still comes to rely on them.
* AmbiguouslyBi: While Sakura's major love interests have male gender identities, she takes a great liking to Mizuki and constantly comments on how pretty she is and how fuzzy she feels around her (though she later finds out it's because she's attracted to Mizuki's magic). She admits that the way she feels towards her is similar to how she feels when around her confirmed crush Yukito, but it's otherwise never made clear that she's romantically interested in her. She also blushes towards some girls such as Tomoyo, Sonomi and Akiho, though she never picks up on Tomoyo's explicitly romantic feelings for her. Also, WordOfGod says that Sakura would still be interested romantically in Syaoran even if he was a girl, and that she does not see gender as barrier for her romantic attraction.
%%* AnimeHair
* BadassAdorable: A cute little girl who is a highly powerful magic user that may one day grow to surpass Clow Reed himself.
* BaitAndSwitchSentiment: After Tomoyo tells her she really likes her, Sakura says she likes her too, not realizing Tomoyo didn't mean it in a platonic sense. Tomoyo even lampshades the trope by saying that "what you mean with [[AllLovingHeroine like]] and what ''I'' mean with like are two very different things".
* BattleCouple: She forms one with Syaoran in the sequel. They have already admitted their feelings for each other and when a Clear Card appears and Syaoran is nearby, he teams up with Sakura so she can capture it.
* BelatedLoveEpiphany: While Sakura becomes more aware of Syaoran romantically only after he confesses he has a crush on her, it's hearing the news that Syaoran must go back to Hong Kong and she might not see him again that forces Sakura to realize that she likes Syaoran in the same way he likes her. In the manga, she manages to confess her feelings for him before he leaves Japan, but in the anime series, she confesses in TheMovie when Syaoran comes back to Japan to visit.
* BerserkButton: She does ''not'' take kindly to Touya calling her a monster, with her general response being to grind his foot into the floor.
* BettyAndVeronica: She's the Betty to Meiling's Veronica towards Syaoran's Archie, but it's not a pure example. Meiling is his childhood friend with the haughty and high-maintenance personality while Sakura is a rival mage from another country with the modest and friendly personality.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Rather mild case, but you still don't want her mad at you. After The Snow card's rampage cost her a present given to her by Yukito, [[TranquilFury she captured it with a swift and powerful assault]]. Kero and Syaoran were dumbfounded.
* BookDumb: She has incredible wisdom and resourcefulness, but is a bit of a [[TheDitz ditz]] in terms of normal intelligence. She's more of a downplayed case when it comes to academics since she's never actually shown getting bad grades; that said, she describes herself as a slow reader, and she ''hates'' math, though a later chapter has her off-handedly mention she's starting to get better at it and even like it a little. In fairness, she is only in elementary school during the series.
* BoyishShortHair: Downplayed; while she has very short hair and is athletic (with P.E. being one of her favorite subjects), [[GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak she's otherwise very girly]]. She also styles her hair in very feminine ways despite how short it is, wearing numerous hair decorations and often sporting short pigtails.
* BreakTheCutie: A couple of times. Both out and in-universe, the sight of Sakura in tears is considered an incredibly heartbreaking (interestingly, the dub downplays a few of these scenes, likely to make her seem like a less vulnerable protagonist, though the remaining examples are still valid). Sakura, however, is able to bounce back with some help from her friends.
%%* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: The gentle girl to Syaoran's brooding boy.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite her rather simple-minded nature, she excels at being a cardcaptor, cook, athlete, artist, and designer.
* ButtMonkey: After being drafted into the role of Cardcaptor unwillingly, she falls victim to endless slapstick abuse and intimidation from the cards, self-proclaimed rivals and even her haughty mentor.
* TheCameo: Aside from the requisite CLAMP cameos in other universes, Sakura herself appears in ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'', [[spoiler:giving up her Star Wand to help its own universe's Syaoran and not minding because the Cards are still with her.]]
* CastFromHitPoints: Sakura is physically drained by the effort of converting a Clow Card into a Sakura Card.
* CatGirl: One of Tomoyo's outfits has the ears and tail.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Everything will be alright".
* CharacterExaggeration: Her obliviousness in the anime. In the manga, while she remains ObliviousToLove until Syaoran outright confesses, she otherwise is as oblivious as any normal child would be. Perhaps to compare it best is when Syaoran's confession is interrupted. In the manga, she brought it up again twice wanting to know what exactly he’s talking about while in the anime, she never brought it up despite having more interruptions than the manga. Even besides this her behaviour in the anime gets incredibly spacey and naive, and more prone to being InnocentlyInsensitive.
* ChastityCouple: Sakura and Syaoran are technically a couple in the Clear Card sequel because they already confessed their feelings for each other at the end of the first series, but the most they ever do is HoldingHands or hugging and they're still too embarrassed to call each other their boyfriend/girlfriend.
* CheerfulChild: She's a very upbeat and cheerful person.
* CherryBlossomGirl: She's named Sakura, pink is one of her favorite colors (and she wears it often), she has a CherryBlossoms [[FlowerMotifs motif]], her birthday is April 1st, and she's strongly associated with youth, hope and love.
* TheChosenOne: She was chosen by Keroberos to take possession of the Clow cards.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: By the final arc, Sakura seems noticeably spacier and more excitable. Meiling even lampshades this when she meets her again.
* ConvenientlySeated: Sakura is in the ever-popular window seat, with Tomoyo next to her, Syaoran behind her, and Meiling and later Eriol behind Tomoyo.
* CrossCastRole: She had to play Prince Charming in a SchoolPlay of "Literature/SleepingBeauty". She actually looked quite handsome.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Despite being extremely naive and occasionally outright ditzy at times (believes every last one of Yamazaki's ridiculous stories and is completely oblivious to the fact that her two best friends are infatuated with her) she has moments of remarkable inspiration, particularly when it comes to the use of her magic.
* CuteBruiser: She's tiny, cute and adorable, and if she uses cards like The Power she can become a force to be reckoned with.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Downplayed; she can be very clumsy in certain situations, such as thudding herself with her baton when she isn't paying attention, but she's also shown to be very athletic and is skilled on her roller blades. Sonomi notes that Sakura's athletic skills are one thing she ''doesn't'' have in common with her deceased mother Nadeshiko.
* CuteWitch: Due to her having the Cards and being a young, though powerful, mage. It helps that she rides her Sealing Staff like a FlyingBroomstick whenever she uses the Fly card.
* TheCutie: She leans more and more into this as the series goes on as she's earnest and friendly. Tomoyo makes sure she fits this trope by making her darling costumes (if Syaoran is involved, expect a LuminescentBlush).
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Every Clow Card, rival, and any other form of antagonist she defeats becomes a beloved friend afterwards.
* DistressBall: Even with her ever-increasing power, Sakura remains fallible and is prone to making errors and getting in over her head throughout. That's why she has a pair of guardians, and Syaoran, looking out for her.
* TheDitz: Has some shades of this, being clueless and somewhat ditzy. Escalates into GeniusDitz territory later.
* DoggedNiceGirl: She's a minor example to Yukito; minor in that he is clearly fond of her, but platonically, and Sakura is majorly infatuated and constantly tries to get his attention.
* DubNameChange:
** Downplayed in Nelvana's English dub; since Sakura has her given name clearly written in English letters on a lot of her belongings in-series, it's likely that they had no choice but to keep her original given name. She does, however, get a dub ''sur''name change to Avalon.
** In the Korean dub, she is renamed to Yu Cherry.
** Renamed to Nicky in the Greek dub. Despite this, they didn't alter any of Sakura's belongings with her name on it. Fun fact: Nelvana almost renamed Sakura to Nikki, which they then used for Naoko.
* DubPersonalityChange: The "Cardcaptors" English dub made her more tomboyish and plucky, and snarkier to boot. Her innocence and vulnerability were also greatly toned down to make her more precocious and mature.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Tomoyo is in love with her.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: Sakura is [[NiceGirl kindness incarnate]], loving everyone and having a streak for giving second chances, but is hostile and cynical toward Touya for being a BigBrotherBully, regularly grinding his foot into the floor for insulting her and fantasizing about getting back at him for it. That all changes when she finds out [[SecretSecretKeeper he knew all along about her activities as the Cardcaptor]] and had [[BroughtDownToNormal sacrificed his own powers]] to keep Yue alive; she's reduced to TearsOfRemorse over how badly she misjudged her brother.
* EverybodyHatesMathematics: Sakura mentions that her least favorite subject is math. She gets better at it later on.
* ExtremeDoormat: Her sweet nature often makes her helpless against rivals and more abrasive allies. The only character she isn't a doormat around is Touya, since she's always quick to defend herself from his {{Big Brother Bully}}ing.
* FaceFault: Is rather prone to these, especially whenever [[SingleTargetSexuality Tomoyo]] starts gushing about her.
* FailedASpotCheck: To the point of being a defining character trait. A huge amount of plot points rely on Sakura's immense obliviousness. See also ObliviousToLove.
* FamilyEyeResemblance: She has the same green eyes as her mother.
* FireForgedFriends: Battling Clow Cards together helped her befriend Syaoran.
* {{Flanderization}}: Though more competent, Sakura becomes ''far'' more oblivious to befit later points of the plot, while she was more reasonably unaware of background events initially. She also seems more dizzily sweet and idealistic, compared to earlier on where she could be at least marginally cynical.
* FlyingBroomstick: The Fly Card lets her use her Sealing Staff like one; the card makes the wings on the staff grow to a huge size and gives it the ability to fly, and she rides it like a witch would ride a broomstick.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: She sometimes panics and bumbles even when she has a card perfect for the dilemma. Such cases were usually set up for Syaoran to assist her. The most glaring example would be Sakura's fight against Yue, where Sakura absolutely forgot that one of her strongest yet gentlest binding cards was also one of the few aligned with Cerberus- Shadow. Justified with her age.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: In more than one episode, her primary motivation for catching the [[MonsterOfTheWeek Clow Card of the week]] is because said Clow Card is tormenting animals with its powers, such as the Watery nearly drowning penguins or the Power harassing elephants at the zoo.
* FriendlyRival: Sakura isn't all that good at playing a ruthless competitor, and ultimately submits to her kindly nature around Syaoran and later Meiling. They try to rebuff this, but ultimately return the sentiment.
* GenkiGirl: She's always very cheerful and upbeat. Although she matures over the course of the series, she remains overwhelmingly affectionate and cheery (much to [[LuminescentBlush Syaoran's]] exasperation).
* GirlishPigtails: Often wears her hair in very small ones, since her hair is already short. In ''Clear Card'', she doesn't have them anymore, likely to look more grown up.
* GirlyBruiser: She's quite feminine -- she loves pink, cute things, and manages her household, but she's also quite athletic. Also she kicks a lot of ass with the Clow Cards.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Despite being very feminine for the most part, she still has short hair and is very athletic, with P.E. being one of her favorite classes.
* GottaCatchEmAll: Played straight in the first arc where she has to catch all the Clow Cards. The second arc has a twist on the trope: she has to turn all the Clow Cards she's captured into Sakura cards.
* GracefulLoser: In the anime, Syaoran manages to earn some of the cards she captured. By the time Syaoran has become a FriendlyRival, she stops caring about this, often even giving him a card in return for assisting her or some other kind act. This tends to confound Syaoran.
* HairAntennae: She has some cute little "antennae" made of two strands of hair standing atop her head.
* HairIntakes: Her hairdo has two "cat ears".
* IconicOutfit: Unlike most {{Magical Girl}}s, she doesn't stick with one outfit when doing magic (since this is a series where everyone has an UnlimitedWardrobe), but the outfit she wears in the anime's first opening and the cover of the manga's first volume (the pink dress and hat with wings on the back) is the one most associated with her.
* {{Ideal Hero}}ine: She protects Tomoeda from Clow Card mischief and helping others when she can (which is often). She's indisputably kind, loyal and idealistic. Ultimately any antagonistic figure in the series is tamed and becomes her friend.
* IndyPloy: Sometimes can come up with rather clever quick solutions to problems related to Card catching. A good example is how she caught The Jump.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Sakura rarely means harm, but she is rather spacey and ''terrible'' at reading other's emotions, so sometimes manages to cause discomfort in her oblivious treatment of them. Syaoran and Kero are perhaps the most frequent victims, though granted [[VitriolicBestBuds she does get it back as well]].
* IResembleThatRemark: Whenever Touya teases her about being a "monster", she stomps, growls and shakes her fist.
* IWillWaitForYou: In the ending of the manga that was later adapted into an OVA, Sakura promises Syaoran that she'll wait for him to come back for her after he solves what he must do in Hong Kong. They maintain a LongDistanceRelationship until they reunite when Sakura starts middle school.
* JerkassRealization: For most of the series, Sakura is firmly convinced that Touya is nothing but a BigBrotherBully and has little more than scorn for him. When she discovers that Touya has [[SecretSecretKeeper known about her magic and the Clow Cards all along]] and has been watching over her, and had even [[BroughtDownToNormal sacrifices his sixth sense]] to save Yue's life, she's left in tearful remorse over how badly she misjudged him.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Downplayed. She is more immensely naive and spacier than outright stupid and has incredible showings of resourcefulness and wisdom at times, but it's obvious her heart is much bigger than her brain. Justified in that she ''is'' a child.
* LeotardOfPower: Two of Tomoyo's outfits are designed with leotards; easy to move in.
* LikeParentLikeSpouse: Part of the reason why Sakura liked Yukito is because of his strong resemblance to her father Fujitaka.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: For a good chunk of the Sakura Card arc, Cerberus and Yue keep her in the dark about the fact that Yue's power and existence is tied to that of his master, and Sakura isn't strong enough to sustain him. Their reasoning is that it would cause her unnecessary worry, and there's nothing she can do about it anyway.
* LongDistanceRelationship: In the manga's DistantFinale, it's revealed she and Syaoran only communicated through letters and phone calls during several years while he was in Hong Kong.
* LoveAtFirstSight: She fell for Yukito the moment she saw him.
* LovedByAll: She loves everyone, and it's stated multiple times that everyone loves her back. Even the few who initially dislike her, like Syaoran and Meiling, eventually come around and become her close friends.
* LoveRevelationEpiphany: Syaoran confesses his love for her near the end of the first series. After the initial surprise, Sakura slowly realizes she loves him in the same way and they become a couple.
* MagicalGirlWarrior: Sakura's mission is to capture all Clow Cards, sometimes using direct combat, sometimes by using other means. In later seasons after she capture all the cards, she must turn the cards into her own cards, by applicating it in various tasks, often involving some kind of combat.
* MagicStaff: She wields one which goes through several transformations throughout the series; her first one is the Sealing Staff, a pink wand with a bird's beak and wings at the top. It later changes into the Star Staff, which is topped with a star enclosed in a ring with smaller wings. In the Clear Card Arc, it becomes the Dream Staff, which has a star enclosed in a spiked golden ring with wings at the base, and a pink handle that's quite a bit longer than before.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Starts becoming a toned-down variant to Syaoran in later points.
* MascotsNameGoesUnchanged: In the ''Cardcaptors'' dub, almost every human's name is changed except for main character Sakura's. She was going to be called "Nikki," but the dubbers relented because of backlash. Another reason why Sakura wasn't renamed is that she signs all of the Clow Cards she captures with her name in clear English letters, so changing her name would mean a lot more digital paint and a lot more cost.
* NaiveEverygirl: Usually, though {{Flanderization}} leans her a bit more as a KindheartedSimpleton later on.
* NiceGirl: She is very nice and kind and ''everyone'' knows it.
* ObliviousToLove: A rare example both for and towards the character since, on one side, it takes her a while to notice Syaoran's feelings and she ''never'' picks up on Tomoyo's. Meanwhile she also has problems expressing her crush towards Yukito and later Syaoran.
* OfficialCouple: Officially becomes a couple with Syaoran. The original manga and anime end with them confessing their feelings for each other, and they are boyfriend and girlfriend in the sequel.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: A rare lighthearted example. When she refrains from grinding Touya's foot into the floor after he [[BerserkButton calls her a monster]], you know she's in a better mood than usual. And given that she's in a good mood more often than not...
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Well, elementary school student. Until she found the Clow Book and met Kero, Sakura lived a completely normal life. Now she has to capture magic cards and become their new master.
* PacifistWind: Although she's able to use magic related to all of the elements, Sakura's first and most used card is Windy. She later obtains Fly and Jump for similar effect. Fittingly, much of her official artwork depicts her with wings, blowing wind, and other wind-based ElementalMotifs as well as sakura [[CherryBlossomGirl Flower Motifs]]. While she is willing to take a fight to fulfill her mission, as an AllLovingHeroine and FriendToAllLivingThings, she tries to end things peacefully first. Even when she can't, she's always kind to her former enemies and [[DefeatMeansFriendship befriends them]] afterwards. In fact, [[spoiler:she almost fails the Final Judgment because she was [[ReluctantWarrior so reluctant]] to fight back against Yue]].
* PairTheSuitors: Sakura and Syaoran started as love rivals over Yukito. Later on, Syaoran falls in love with Sakura who is oblivious. Getting turned down by Yukito and Syaoran confessing his love leads to Sakura becoming a couple with Syaoran.
* PajamaCladHero: When capturing the Fly Clow Card. Considering it was getting late...
* PingPongNaivete. She manages to capture Clow Cards using her brain and ingenuity, but remains oblivious about people's affections for her.
* PinkHeroine: She's the main character and she's heavily associated with the color pink; pink is one of her favorite colors, her wands are pink, and her most iconic costume is the pink dress and cap from the cover of the first volume of the manga and the first opening of the anime. When the Clow Cards are converted into Sakura Cards, they also become pink. The predominance of pink in her design is likely due to her name meaning "cherry blossom" in Japanese.
* PluckyGirl: To an extent, she is rather determined and has little regard for her own well-being when her loved ones are endangered, but also has a rather fragile disposition that can lead her to [[BreakTheCutie break down and panic]] without emotional support. And when she's done with these tears, she '''bounces back'''.
* ThePollyanna: "Everything will be alright." is her catchphrase.
* PowerGivesYouWings: After changing the Fly Card into a Sakura Card, she no longer has to use her staff like a FlyingBroomstick; instead, the card now lets her sprout wings from her back.
* PowerIncontinence: Inverted, after gaining half of Eriol's powers in the manga, she becomes more powerful than he and Clow Reed; unlike both of them, however, she is powerful enough to negate such magic. This isn't present in the anime where this event does not occur. By the time the events of ''Clear Card'' takes place, [[spoiler:Sakura's magic has become so chaotic that she starts creating the Clear Cards unconsciously out of her own wishes.]]
* PowerOfTheSun: It's {{implied|Trope}} that Sakura's powers are innately tied to the sun, which is why she was able to first attract Kero's attention, and that she will eventually become a source of power to continue Yue's existence. This falls in line with her eventual upgrade to StarPower.
* PrecisionFStrike: In one translation of the manga, in Chapter 2, she abuses the phrase "What the hell?" to hell and back while impersonating a ventriloquist and using Kero-chan as her dummy. Kero-chan is not amused.
-->'''Kero''': ''What the hell was THAT all about!?''
* PrecociousCrush: Initially harbours a crush on Yukito, who's a teenager and seven years older than she. It later turns out that it's really because she's reacting to the magic within him, since Yukito is the false form of Yue. The fact he resembles her father at times also contributes to this. Though she still holds a crush on him even after finding this out (with Kero confirming that the reaction to his magic does not downplay her genuine feelings for him), she later gives up on it and accepts that Yukito will only love her platonically.
* ProneToTears: Downplayed. She isn't as severe as other examples, but she is quite sensitive nonetheless. Given that she's TheCutie, it's usually more heartbreaking than funny.
* PuppyLove: With Syaoran; love confessions in elementary school.
* RedOniBlueOni: The cheerful and naive Red Oni to Syaoran's grumpier and more serious Blue Oni.
* ReluctantWarrior: Whenever she can't peacefully end situations. She almost failed the Final Judgment because she was so reluctant to fight back against Yue.
* RollerbladeGood: Sakura skates to school every day and uses them in battle on occasion, with one particularly impressive example when fighting The Fly.
* SayMyName: Lighter variant. Calls Syaoran by his first name later on (though this is a fair step into their bond since she is the only non-related acquaintance allowed to do so).
-->'''Sakura''': *giggles* Right, '''Syaoran'''-kun?
* SecurityCling: Even the mere ''mention'' of [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes ghosts]] is enough to have her holding onto Tomoyo for protection.
* SiblingRivalry: Her treatment of [[BigBrotherBully Touya]] is the nearest Sakura has gotten to bearing a grudge.
* SignatureHeadgear: She wears a [[UnlimitedWardrobe great variety]] of decorations in her hair, but in the anime the ones she wears most often are her red hair bobbles, which are most often associated with her.
* SignatureMove: Windy is the first card she gets and is the one she uses the most often. Jump and Fly see a lot of use as well.
* SimpleMindedWisdom: It is often this trait that leads others to realise they've underestimated her by assuming that "simple minded" meant "dumb".
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: First she had a crush on the NiceGuy Yukito. She later began to like Syaoran largely because his gentler side began to show.
* StarPower: In the second half of the series, Sakura turns the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards; this means that instead of drawing from Clow Reed's magic, which relies on the sun and moon, they draw from her own magic, which is from the stars. The Nelvana dub even [[DubNameChange renamed the Sakura Cards to "Star Cards"]], reinforcing this further.
* StockShoujoHeroine: Clumsy, naive, and oblivious, but very plucky, kindhearted, and possesses immense magical power. She is a firm believer in ThePowerOfFriendship, and is also a ReluctantWarrior when she is forced to battle rather than befriend (and even then ''all'' of them count as DefeatEqualsFriendship). While she starts out with a PrecociousCrush on her brother's friend Yukito, who's seven years older than her, she eventually gets over it and falls in love with Syaoran, who's the same age as her.
* SuperGullible: She always believes Takashi's lies, no matter how ridiculous they are. As Eriol points out, Sakura lacks the ability to suspect deceitful intentions from anyone.
* SuperiorSuccessor: Sakura was chosen to be Clow's inheritor and goes on to become more powerful than he was while also lacking the PowerIncontinence that plagued him. (Though the Clear Card arc implies that she got hit with a case that simply wasn't ''as'' severe as Clow's [[spoiler:given that the Clear Cards were created by her magic powers growing and responding to her unconscious wishes.]])
* SupremeChef: Despite being only ten-years-old, she is quite a decent cook, often making dinner and treats for her friends and family.
* ATasteOfDefeat: In the anime adaptation, Syaoran could collect cards over Sakura if he played a larger part in neutralising them. He collected roughly a dozen cards prior to losing them all in the Final Judgement. Granted by the first handful of "losses", Sakura liked Syaoran enough not to care anyway.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: To give thanks for comforting her after being turned down by Yukito, she spends a week making Syaoran a scarf. Similarly, in the manga, Sakura returns the favor by spending a week making him a yukata.
* ThroughHisStomach: In the sequel, one of the most open romantic gestures Sakura does for her boyfriend Syaoran is cooking for him.
* TookALevelInBadass: As pointed out in the second film by both Kero and Tomoyo, she started the series as a very ditzy girl but becomes a very competent MagicalGirlWarrior later on. Also, notice that at the start she was reluctant to capture cards and fearful when she did but gradually became more confident until she tries to fight Cloud despite also fighting off a cold.
* TownGirls: The Neither to Tomoyo's Femme and Meiling's Butch. While not precisely a tomboy, Sakura is more athletic and outgoing and less girly than the very feminine Tomoyo. She's still much girlier than the loud martial artist Meiling, though.
* TwoGirlsAndAGuy: With Tomoyo and Syaoran. To a lesser extent, Meiling, because she is around less often, but only in the anime.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the cards, her family, her friends, and anyone within Sakura's radius; she will take all measures to keep them happy and safe.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: Justified with her battle costumes, since the very wealthy and devoted fashionista Tomoyo makes all them for her. Along with her regular wardrobe also being incredibly varied, she's worn many more different outfits than the typical MagicalGirl.
* UnskilledButStrong: During the capture of [[ArrogantKungFuGuy the Fight]], she enhances herself with [[PintSizedPowerhouse the Power]]. While Sakura has no martial arts training, the Power enhances her strength enough that the one hit she lands on the Fight knocks it out cold.
* VerbalTic: Her characteristic interjection is "hoe" (which sounds roughly as "uwee" in English).
* VitriolicBestBuds: She has quite the combative relationship with Kero but it’s just harmless bickering. Underneath it is a solid mentor-student-style friendship.
* VocalDissonance: In the Nelvana dub. Many were not expecting such a low-pitched voice from a 10-year-old anime girl. Ironically, [[RealityIsUnrealistic her voice actress was only one year older than her]].
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's terrified of ghosts, in part due to Touya telling her stories about [[ISeeDeadPeople the various ghosts he saw]] when she was little ([[JacobMarleyApparel some of which were missing limbs or stuff like that]]). Whenever [[NightmareFetishist Naoko]] tells ghost stories around her, she's usually on the verge of fainting from terror.
* WomenAreWiser: Zigzagged. Sakura is far more naive and inexperienced than Syaoran, but also more good-natured and sometimes more insightful. Both characters ultimately even the other out, with Syaoran mentoring Sakura to be more competent, and Sakura's kindness softening Syaoran's personality.
* WorthyOpponent: A starting point in Syaoran's CharacterDevelopment was beginning to see Sakura as this, initially convinced she was useless as the Cardcaptor. Sakura is also respectful towards Syaoran's abilities, though spends more time being his friend than opponent.

[[GeniusDitz Wise yet somewhat eccentric]] guardian of the Clow Cards. Sakura set the clock cards loose while he was sleeping on the job, so he drafts Sakura as a Cardcaptor against her will. Secretly residing in her house, the somewhat gluttonous and obnoxious Kero also acts as a [[VitriolicBestBuds bickering close friend]] and mentor for Sakura.
----
* AccentAdaptation: The English dub changes his [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseDialects Kansai accent]] to a [[UsefulNotes/AmericanAccents New York accent]]. The Spaniard dub gave him a Mexican accent instead.
* AsleepForDays: Before Sakura came across the Clow Book and scattered the Clow Cards, Kero had been sleeping in the book for ''30 years''.
* BerserkButton:
** He ''really'' doesn't like it when people are off eating delicious food without him.
** Don't call him a "plush toy" either.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Downplayed, but Kero is a good guy and often goofs off, but he was made to be a guardian to the cards and his master. The fact he looks like a ''[[PantheraAwesome lion]]'' in his real form is a big clue that he shouldn't be underestimated. He ''breathes fire'', people!
* BigEater: He really likes to eat, especially [[SweetTooth sweets]].
* ButtMonkey: Has moments of this, usually regarding Sakura's [[InnocentlyInsensitive blundering treatment of him]].
%%%%% "90% of the time" is not context.
* CloudCuckooLander: His little form is a highly expressive sweet tooth fan. His big form, while originally more stoic, was ultimately {{Flanderiz|ation}}ed as such as well.
* CuteKitten: He isn't exactly a cat-or at least he is less so one than Spinel Sun, but his large form resembles a lion, and there are times where acts like and is mistaken for one due to his cute appearance which is cat-like enough with a little dose of teddy bear in it.
* DeadpanSnarker: He dishes out quite the snide remarks. Particularly at the expense of Syaoran and Meiling. This is especially the case in the Nelvana dub.
* DeathbringerTheAdorable: "Kerberos" -- originally the name of a mythical multi-headed hound -- doesn't seem so suiting for such an adorable mascot until one looks at [[PantheraAwesome his true form]].
%%* DeclarationOfProtection: To Sakura.
* DubNameChange: Renamed to Juki in the Greek dub.
* EatingOptional: As his power and energy comes from the sun, Kero doesn't actually ''need'' to eat. Regardless, he has quite a SweetTooth.
* EccentricMentor: Sakura finds it troubling that her Clow Card-catching mentor is so often distracted by sweets.
* FairyCompanion: Mostly for the first arc where he flies over her shoulder and gives advice on the Clow Card missions.
* {{Flanderization}}: Reconstructed. Big Kero was usually depicted as more serious and stoic than his little form in his first appearances. Later on it's far more apparent they're [[CloudCuckooLander the same character.]]
* GeniusDitz: He is playful, energegetic, loves his sweets, dips into CloudCuckooLander territory, but is also very wise and acts as a mentor to Sakura during her time as guardian of the cards.
* HatesBeingCalledCute: He doesn't take to kindly to Tomoyo saying that his nickname 'Kero' sounds much cuter for a creature like him, and tell sher to watch who she is calling cute in the Nelvana dub, taking great pride in his duty as a guardian beast despite his adorable and small appearance.
* HeyYou: Refers to Syaoran and Meiling solely as "punk" (or "kid" and "brat" respectively depending on the translation). He uses this even in friendlier exchanges later on, leaning it somewhat as an AffectionateNickname.
* HotBlooded: When he's demanding food, eating food, freaking out over the latest mishap, or protecting Sakura, he is quite passionate about it.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He reminds Sakura that she needs to take things more seriously, despite constantly stuffing himself with sweets during important missions.
* TheIdiotFromOsaka: Despite being an ancient magical guardian, he speaks with a noticeable Kansai dialect and has many of the typical mannerisms: silly, cheerful, stubborn, and rather gluttonous. Sakura herself lampshades this the first time she hears him speak; he replies that it's because the Book of Clow was left in an Osaka library for thirty years so the accent rubbed off on him.
* InconsistentSpelling: His real name is often translated as Cerberus, but in Japanese it's written as Kerberos, which is the original Greek pronunciation.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Often comes off as this due to his HotBlooded and DeadpanSnarker personality coupled with SmallNameBigEgo-Especially in the Nelvana dub. He can be bratty and self-important but is ultimately good-hearted and protective of Sakura.
* {{Keet}}: He is very outgoing, friendly, cheerful, talkative, and energetic.
* LethalChef: At one point when he is currently in Syaoran's body, he tried to cook a dinner soup for Mei Ling. Unfortunately, the soup ended up tasting horrible. Perhaps his obsession with sweets meant that he couldn't make a proper meal.
* MascotsLoveSugar: Kero constantly eats sweets despite the fact that he not only doesn't need to eat but is also just barely larger than the utensils. This has caused problems on several occasions, including briefly living in another house after getting drunk off chocolates that contain brandy, giving random answers on Sakura's math homework sheets to get it out of the way so she'll buy him pastries and, of course, being fed by Sakura for over a year for his own amusement.
* MentorMascot: He's essentially the mascot for the series, being a small winged creature who guides Sakura in the use of her powers. While he doesn't always do a great job at being this trope (especially when he's distracted by his love of sweets and video games), he can offer good advice and ultimately comes through for Sakura more often than not.
* NeverMyFault: In the first episode, he enlists Sakura as Cardcaptor, reminding her that she was the one who scattered the Clow Cards, so it's her responsibility to get them back. Sakura retorts that Kero is just as responsible since he was supposed to be guarding them, but fell asleep on the job.
* NonHumanSidekick: A lion/teddy bear creature who serves as this to Sakura, on top of being her friend and guide.
* PantheraAwesome: His true form is a huge maneless lion, with enormous angelic white wings. Kero wasn't lying when he said his true form looked awesome.
* PersonalityPowers: Associated with fire and the sun, and is cheerful, hot-blooded, and energetic to match.
* PlayfulCatSmile: His default expression, fitting with his small, cute appearance and fun-loving personality. Unless he's [[BewareTheNiceOnes ticked off]].
* PlayingWithFire: Fire is one of the elements under his control. He is able to shoot balls of fire from his mouth in his true form.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: Despite still having to draw power from Sakura, as a sun guardian Kero is able to sustain himself through food and other sources of energy.
* PrecisionFStrike: After Sakura uses him as a ventriloquist dummy early on in the manga: "What the hell was ''that'' all about!?"
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: As old as Yue, his "brother", their father created them a long time ago.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** The outgoing, emotional and hot-blooded Red Oni to Yue's cold, introspective, and totally dispassionate Blue Oni.
** Also the emotional and passionate Red Oni to Spinel's stoic and dispassionate Blue Oni.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: In his SleepModeSize form, he resembles a stuffed animal.
* SidekickCreatureNuisance: A more mild example while in his small form. He can be bratty, self-important and gets on the nerves of the other characters quite often. Despite this, he is a big help when it comes to capturing the cards and guiding Sakura into her role as master of them.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Syaoran and to a lesser degree Meiling often trade insults with him. It becomes more playful in later points.
* SleepModeSize: He is supposed to look like a lion, but since his power is sealed for most of the series he usually resembles a small, golden teddy bear with wings. He recovers his powers and original form later, but stays in the smaller one for practical reasons unless it's really needed.
* SmallNameBigEgo: On occasion, especially about his "really cool" real form.
* SolarAndLunar: His PowerOfTheSun is in direct contrast to Yue, who has to wholly rely on Sakura -- according to him, it's because the sun can shine on its own, while the moon can only shine with borrowed light (which is, of course, TruthInTelevision).
* StationaryWings: His wings never actually move and he simply floats around while flying. In his true form he'll sometimes flap his wings to take off, but his wings still don't move when he's in the air.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: In his true form he has them, justified as he's a [[PantheraAwesome great big cat]] and a magical being to boot.
* SweetTooth: He loves his sweets. He would never miss dessert for the world.
* TakeOurWordForIt: His "super cool" real form is this for the first half of the story, as he'll brag about it when asked but he can't actually show it since he hasn't regained his full power yet. [[CassandraTruth Turns out he wasn't lying]].
* ToyDisguise: He often pretends to be a stuffed animal around most people.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Cake; of all sweet things, cake reigns supreme.
* TheUnfavorite: Considers himself this to both Clow Reed and Sakura compared to Yue because they ask him to help with chores and let Yue "get away with murder". They don't look it but they are basically siblings after all.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He has quite the combative relationship with Sakura but it is just harmless bickering. Underneath it is a solid mentor-student-style friendship.
* VocalDissonance: Many who have seen the Nelvana dub didn't expect a young adult male voice with somewhat of a surfer-dude vibe coming from a small cute mascot, given his voice was much higher and more childish sounding in the original.
* TheWorfEffect: Big Kero always gets taken down sooner than Yue and Sakura to demonstrate how dangerous the situation is.
* WouldHurtAChild: Attacked Syaoran in earlier confrontations. Also implied to have gone ballistic on Sakura in one episode. Given his size, both cases are PlayedForLaughs.

[[quoteright:185:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/syaoran.png]]

A distant relative of Clow Reed that initially views himself as rightful Master of the Cards, leading him to act as a rival for Sakura in her own attempts to retrieve them. As time passes, Sakura warms herself to Syaoran and treats him as a close friend or consultant, oblivious that by this point he has become disinterested in inheriting the cards and has [[DefrostingIceKing gained an overwhelming crush on her]].
----
* AdaptationalBadass: In the first arc of the anime, he is a more effective rival for Sakura, collecting and utilising several cards himself and becoming an unofficial candidate for the Final Judgement.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: He tries so hard to be serious and no-nonsense and mature (and for the most part does passably, keeping pace with Sakura in the capturing of Clow Cards in the earlier seasons and even living on his own in the manga continuity), but is still too small and cute for this to be truly effective, especially since he breaks out in a [[LuminescentBlush bright blush]] the second he's complimented or shown affection.
* AllergicToLove: He gets extremely awkward and flustered around Yukito and later Sakura. Eventually gets over it.
* AloofAlly: During later points the rival aspect disappears, but he still tries to play cold and mystical. His crush on Sakura always brings it down.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Syaoran at first appeared to have a crush on Yukito, making him see Sakura as a rival in love as well as for the cards. He slowly falls in love with Sakura and Yukito's alter ego, Yue, reveals to Syaoran that his attraction for Yukito was merely caused by sensing Yue's moon magic in him. The thing is that he never questioned why he was attracted to another boy and just acted naturally such as giving gifts to him and wanting to get close to him, he only started questioning his feelings, like he shouldn’t be feeling this, when he started linking Sakura.
* AntiHero: Syaoran starts off as a cold and aloof prick. [[TookALevelInKindness However, he grows out of this trope]] through CharacterDevelopment. By the end of the story, he has become a NiceGuy.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Pre-CharacterDevelopment he says that no one but him is entitled to the Clow Cards and Sakura's name is 'weakling'.
* AscendedExtra: His role is greatly expanded in the anime compared to the manga. The anime introduces him much earlier into the story and expands more on the character, gaining ADayInTheLimelight in frequent episodes and his family is even explored (his cousin Meiling acting as a recurring character, then we meet his mother and sisters). His rivalry in capturing the cards is also upgraded (see WorthyOpponent below).
* AttractiveBentGender: He actually looked pretty cute when he was forced to wear a princess dress for a SchoolPlay.
* BadassAdorable: Despite his stoic nature, Syaoran is easily flustered, especially around Yukito.
* BattleCouple: By the sequel, he's Sakura's boyfriend and whenever he can, he helps her capture a Clear Card with the intention of protecting her.
* BettyAndVeronica: He's the Veronica to Yukito's Betty towards Sakura's Archie because he is a rival mage from another country who has an arrogant personality. Sakura reciprocates his feelings and Yukito ends up with Touya in the end.
* {{BFS}}: He uses a fairly large sword (even ignoring the prepubescent Syaoran's small size). He can wield it easily, though, and it is a magical sword.
* BigBrotherInstinct: To Meiling and Sakura ([[DoggedNiceGuy early on, anyway]]). It's possibly inverted since Meiling's ambiguous age and Sakura's birthday placement during school year rotation leaves it ambiguous whether Syaoran is the "big brother".
* BoyOfMyDreams: The first time Sakura saw Syaoran was when she was DreamingOfThingsToCome.
* BreakoutCharacter: Becomes an increasingly prominent character in the anime, to the point Western networks attempted to endorse him as co-lead for the ''Cardcaptors'' dub so as to appeal to male audiences. Alternate incarnations also take center stage as much as Sakura in other CLAMP works.
* ButtMonkey: Any mystique or dignity he tries to maintain falls to pieces, usually because of Sakura or Meiling.
* CannotSpitItOut: He spends an entire season trying to tell Sakura he loves her, but gets interrupted ''every time'' until the final battle.
* TheChampion: In the sequel, Syaoran's entire purpose is to protect Sakura and her happiness [[spoiler:from her own dangerously powerful magic]].
* CharacterDevelopment: To perhaps emphasize it best, Sakura first envisioned Syaoran in a nightmare and is even terrified by his glares. Later arcs and episodes, his very presence makes her exceptionally cheerful and warm.
* ChastityCouple: With Sakura in the sequel. While they have admitted their feelings for each other, they get very flustered around each other and don't ever go beyond hugging in physical intimacy.
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: Made one with Meiling where they would marry when they grew up, unless he found someone he liked better.
* ChinesePeople: The Li family is a prestigious clan residing in Hong Kong.
* TheChosenWannabe: He believes himself worthy of being Master of the Cards due to being a descendent of Clow Reed and seemingly being more competent than Sakura when they start off. He is never officially deemed a Cardcaptor like Sakura, however [[note]] in the dub, at least, he disdainfully declares that Li is a Cardcaptor when confronted about this [[/note]], and the cards' guardian, Keroberus, clearly roots for Sakura and [[SitcomArchNemesis sees Syaoran as an interfering brat most of the time]]. This makes him TheRival for most of the early run (especially in the anime where he manages to capture cards regardless), but by the time of final judgement Syaoran has become Sakura's close friend and accepts her as official master rather nonchalantly.
* TheComicallySerious: Kero uses him as a StraightMan.
* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: Zigzagged. Being Sakura's doomed rival and the grump in a SugarBowl, he gets shot down frequently. However, Sakura trusts and respects his opinions and knowledge greatly and defends him from ridicule from Kero and Touya.
* TheConfidant: Not as often as Tomoyo, but in later episodes Sakura frequently consults with Syaoran over dilemmas. A big pivot in their relationship occurs when she confides to him her heartbreak after being gently rejected by Yukito.
* CrazyJealousGuy: He ''hates it'' when Sakura hangs out with Eriol. It's massively PlayedForLaughs thanks to his ButtMonkey status by that point.
* CrossCastRole: Gets cast as Princess Aurora in a SchoolPlay of "Literature/SleepingBeauty" courtesy of a lottery to decide who plays who. He does ''not'' take kindly to the experience.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and eyes.
* CuteBruiser: He's a cute elementary school kid with a long time of training in martial arts.
* DeclarationOfProtection: In the sequel, he swears he will protect Sakura from anything that might cause her harm without fail.
* DefrostingIceKing: When he first met Sakura, he was a stoic jerk. Over time he melts into a blushing NiceGuy.
* DemotedToSatelliteLoveInterest: He started off as TheRival and for a while had almost equal footing with Sakura, his own supporting cast and many limelight episodes (so much the English dub tried to play him as co-lead, even renaming the show to ''Cardcaptors''- plural). After Sakura becomes Master of the Cards, the rest of the main arc must be resolved by her with the others providing assistance. As such, most of Syaoran's spotlight at this point consists of short scenes concerning his growing crush on Sakura (he still gets limelight episodes but they revolve entirely around being a love interest).
* {{Determinator}}: When Sakura is endangered at least. He frequently performs feats noted to be impossible for his magical abilty (as in he shouldn't have enough raw power to pull it off) when Sakura's life/safety is on the line. Yue even notes his surprise at him breaking through the magic of cards such as Maze [[DeclarationOfProtection to protect her.]].
* {{Deuteragonist}}: While Sakura is still played as TheHero, Syaoran gets a rather large amount of spotlight and development with a lot of scenes played from his viewpoint, especially in later parts of the anime. The ''Cardcaptors'' dub attempts to ascend him into a co-[[TheHero Hero]] but for the large part he is still this trope.
* DisappearedDad: Syaoran's father is mentioned as having passed away when Syaoran was very young.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He doesn't like mint chocolate. However, he is trying to like it for Sakura's sake.
* DoggedNiceGuy: After Sakura captures all the Clow Cards and becomes their new master, Syaoran should have no reason to remain in Japan. Yet he chooses to stay for some more time just to hang out with Sakura.
* DorkKnight: As [[TookALevelInKindness his arrogance fades]], he becomes a shy and protective friend to Sakura. Extra points for having a sword.
* DubNameChange: Reversed around into Li Showron.
* EntitledBastard: His primary problem during the early part of the series. He believes that he is the rightful heir to the Clow Cards by virtue of being Clow Reed's descendent, whereas Sakura is, in his view, an incompetent weakling. His entire rivalry with Sakura is built on entitlement. Fortunately, [[CharacterDevelopment he grows out of it]].
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: It doesn't take much time for people to notice his crush on Sakura. Tomoyo, Touya, Yukito, Eriol and Yue realized it long before Syaoran himself, and Meiling only needed to hear him calling Sakura by her first name to know she's the one he has fallen in love with.
* FireForgedFriends: Battling Clow Cards together made him realize that Sakura is worthy of his respect.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: In Episode 19, he could have easily used the Time Card to freeze the time so the Move card won't escape from him. Instead he keeps chasing it over and over until it disappears.
* FriendlyRival: Syaoran's treatment of Sakura becomes increasingly less hostile as they further collect cards, in some cases they even hand cards to each other out of respect.
* GayRomanticPhase: A bit of an odd example, but for a time, he thought he was in love with Yukito. It turned out that it was just that their magic was interacting in odd ways that caused him to feel an attraction. When he realizes this, he falls for Sakura.
* GracefulLoser: Is rather nonchalant about losing the Final Judgement (and thus all his Clow Cards) to Sakura. The dub [[SoreLoser makes him bitterer]].
* GreenEyedEpiphany: It took Eriol showing up to make him realize he had developed feelings for Sakura. The reason he decided to stay in Japan was because Eriol showed up.
* HeyYou: For much of the series, he solely addresses Sakura as "Hey you" or ''Omae'' in Japanese which is a rude form of you. After he screams her first name in grief in episode 57 when he believes her dead only to be proven wrong, they both graduate to a FirstNameBasis.
** In some dubs where this is LostInTranslation, when he ''absolutely'' has to use her name, he goes for LastNameBasis, while in the ''Cardcaptors'' English dub this point is lost altogether.
%%* HotBlooded
* InconsistentSpelling: His name is officially written as Syaoran, which is close to how it's pronounced in Japanese ("Shaoran"). The [[Creator/NipponIchi NISAmerica]] subs writes his name with the Chinese spelling, Xiaolang.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Highly arrogant and aloof early on, though it seems to hide his social awkwardness, particularly around girls and romance. it is particularly prominent in his treatment of Sakura.
* InnocentProdigy: Syaoran is rather knowledgeable, deductive and clever. However, he is also extremely naive in certain areas, which shows in his beliefs, failure to recognize his own faults, and believing Takashi's lies.
* {{Irony}}: Syaoran starts off believing that he is to acquire the Clow Cards as his descendant, only to lose out to Sakura as she becomes their master. Then she has to transform the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards to prevent them from losing their magic. In the ''Clear Card'' sequel, [[spoiler:Syaoran has the Sakura Cards transfered to him while Sakura is trying to master her new Clear Cards. Thus he is currently the user and "temporary" master of the Sakura Cards]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He acts like a jerk, but it really is just an act, and deep down his heart is mostly in the right place. He gradually TookALevelInKindness. Sakura even points out later on that she can see right through him.
-->'''Sakura''': You always act like that, but it's never true.\\
'''Syaoran''': What makes you say that?\\
'''Sakura''': I know you. Syaoran-kun, you're a NiceGuy.\\
''[[LuminescentBlush *Syaoran turns bright red*]]''
* KnightInSourArmor: Syaoran would often resentfully help Sakura's group in some way even early on, though would usually add on insults and deny he had any concern outside the cards. He still tries to play this later on, though as Sakura points out, it's clearly an act.
* KungFuWizard: His MagicWand is a ''sword'', which he [[BareFistedMonk doesn't actually need]].
* TheLancer: He is a foil to our heroine in that he represents what someone raised in the Clow Card heritage looks like: magical beyond the cards themselves, knowledgeable about Clow Card lore, and a descendant of their creator. He is also more stoic and aggressive than her. They quickly come to work together to catch the cards.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: Inverted, he's related to Clow through his mother, Yelan's family.
* LonelyRichKid: Meiling was his only friend growing up, and she's anime-only.
* LongDistanceRelationship: After their feelings are confirmed to be mutual, he and Sakura only communicate through letters and phone calls for several years while he's in Hong Kong during the gap between the original and sequel series.
* LovingAShadow: His crush on Yukito is actually an "attraction of similar magic" (aka Yue's moon magic).
* LuminescentBlush: His face frequently turns red around Yukito during the time he's attracted to him, and eventually Sakura too once he starts crushing on her.
* {{Lunacy}}: Syaoran's powers are drawn from the moon, which explains his initial rivalry towards Sakura and attraction to Yukito (due to Yue's presence).
* MeaningfulName: The characters of his given name translate as "little wolf". The Chinese spelling of his name, Li Xiaolang, also mirrors Creator/BruceLee's stage name, Li Xiaolong (with Xiaolong meaning "little dragon").
* MinorLivingAlone: Played straight in the manga, where he lives by himself during his stay in Tomoeda despite only being in elementary school, but averted in the anime where he lives with his guardian Wei (who's a character exclusive to the anime). He continues to live alone when he moves back in the sequel.
* NoRespectGuy: One of the more straight-forward characters but also the butt of jokes (especially in the anime thanks to Meiling), though it's more the plentiful respect he gets from [[MoralityPet Sakura]] that comes at the cost of his dignity.
* OfficialCouple: Becomes an official item with Sakura. She accepts his love confession at the end of the series and they are officially boyfriend and girlfriend in the sequel.
* PairTheSuitors: Syaoran initially had a love rivalry with Sakura because he also was attracted to Yukito. Later on, he falls in love with Sakura and learns from Yue that his attraction to Yukito was magical instead of romantic. After he confesses his feelings for Sakura, they become a couple.
* PaperTalisman: Seen holding them above; he can summon elemental powers with them using his sword. Mostly to fight the Clow Spirits, but once to set Touya's jacket on fire.
* PlatonicLifePartners: He develops a close friendship with Tomoyo as she's the only one who can pick up on his true feelings for Sakura and encourage him to confess to her. Since both are in love with Sakura, they only think of each other as friends.
* PerpetualFrowner: [[{{Foil}} In contrast]] to the [[ThePollyanna eternally optimistic and naive Sakura]], Syaoran's default expression is a frown, especially with the way his eyebrows are angled, and that expression is most often seen in official anime artwork. In ''Clear Card'', his expression has gotten softer.
* PetTheDog: Even pre-[[DefrostingIceQueen defrosting]], Syaoran is extremely protective and gentle to Meiling in the anime.
* PowerParasite: In ''Clear Card'', [[spoiler:Syaoran reveals that he's the one who stole the Sakura Cards to protect Sakura, using the bears they exchanged to initiate the power transfer. Of course as the cards are sentient, they can always refuse to obey him, but knowing that he simply wants to use their power to protect their master, they willingly give Syaoran control of their powers.]]
* PrecociousCrush: Like Sakura, he initially has a crush on Yukito, who's seven years older than he. Unlike Sakura, he gives up on it once he realizes that his attraction to Yukito stems from the magic that's within him as the false form of Yue, and he eventually falls in love with Sakura instead.
* PreviouslyOverlookedParamour: In the first half of the series, Yukito is the guy Sakura has a crush on and Syaoran is her rival who competes with her to capture the Clow Cards. Sakura does manage to befriend Syaoran, but is clueless to his budding crush on her. Eventually, Sakura is gently rejected by Yukito and she starts to rely more on Syaoran for support. After Syaoran confesses, Sakura realizes she really likes Syaoran romantically and they become a couple.
* PsychoRangers: Upgraded to one with Meiling in the anime. Mirrors Sakura's abilities and contrasts her personality. He also mirrors Kero's role as TheSmartGuy.
* PuppyLove: He and Sakura exchange love confessions while they are in elementary school. When he returns to Tomoeda their relationship is very pure and modest, with hugging the most extreme signs of affection they'll show.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** The grumpier and more serious Blue Oni to Sakura's cheerful and naive Red Oni.
** In the anime, he's also the level-headed Blue Oni to Meiling's hot-headed and impulsive Red Oni.
* RefusedByTheCall: He's at first convinced that he's the rightful heir to the Clow Cards, but Clow Reed chooses Sakura. There are ''other'' plans for him.
* ResentfulOutnumberedSibling: He has four older sisters ''and'' they're quite older than he is. He is annoyed that they all treat him like something cute to be cooed over.
* RescueRomance: Due to no longer being TheRival, most of his services during the Sakura Card arc involve him protecting Sakura as she deals with Eriol's challenges. Expect loads of deredere moments.
* TheRival: In the initial arc. More TheLancer after he is rejected as Master Of The Cards, but even prior to this, he becomes a far more laid back FriendlyRival to Sakura by the time Meiling arrives.
* SayMyName: SAKURAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
* SecondLove: For Sakura. After accepting Yukito will always only love her platonically and giving some thought to her feelings for Syaoran, Sakura realizes the one she truly loves is Syaoran.
* ShoutOut: His name in Chinese happens to bear a slight resemblance to that of Bruce Li (yes, the Creator/BruceLee [[BruceLeeClone knock-off]] with an I instead of two E's).
* SignatureMove: Time is the first card he receives, and he uses it often, [[spoiler:he also uses it during the Clear Card Arc to assist Sakura]]. Of his magic, he mainly uses Thunder for battle and Wind for saving people. [[spoiler:In the manga version of the Clear Card Arc, he favors the Light and Dark cards due to their versitility.]]
%%* TheSnarkKnight
* StockShonenRival: He fits quite a bit during the first half of the series, particularly in the anime. He's the aloof ArrogantKungFuGuy who is here to compete with Sakura over the ownership of the Clow Cards. He looks down on Sakura as his inferior and thinks her inexperience and naivety make her weak. However, he still comes around and helps her out when the situation calls for it. When Sakura wins the Final Judgement, Syaoran acknowledges he lost to her and becomes her ally. Then he gets DemotedToSatelliteLoveInterest.
* SuperGullible: He is the only one besides Sakura who always falls for Takashi's ridiculous lies.
* TeamRocketWins: The anime adds the stipulation that Syaoran can earn possession of a Clow Card if he does more to capture it (in the card's estimation) than Sakura. He collects about a dozen cards before the Final Judgement. Deconstructed in some later instances, where one of them give the other their card out of respect or gratitude.
* TongueTied: [[spoiler:He's put under a spell that stops him from speaking every time he tries to inform Sakura of Yuna D. Kaito's involment in the magic incidents.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Grows more powerful as a magic user and shows much more varied and flexible magic in the Clear Cloud Arc. It's stated that's still not the limit of his potential and Syaoran is still coming into his power.
* TookALevelInKindness: From [[ArrogantKungFuGuy arrogant]] {{Tsundere}} to aloof FriendlyRival to [[ShrinkingViolet meek and gentle]] DoggedNiceGuy. [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther Naturally Sakura is happy]].
* {{Tsundere}}: A male Harsh type. He always puts a tough guy act to hide his softer side, but he isn't very good at it. Once he falls for Sakura, he completely refuses to admit it, keeps trying to remain distant from her and it takes him a long time to become honest with his feelings.
* TwoGirlsAndAGuy: With Sakura and Tomoyo/Meiling.
* UnableToCry: In contrast to Sakura. Even following Sakura's DisneyDeath, Syaoran can't quite manage tears, only wince and contort, unable to express the soul crushing emotion before finally screaming in anguish. [[SayMyName How it unleashes however is just as meaningful.]]
* VerbalTic: KAAAAAA!!!
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: He is more...."professional" about his Card catching than Sakura because of the way he was raised but it is balanced with occasional PingPongNaivete and NotSoAboveItAll moments. He's still a little kid, after all.
* WorthyOpponent: His rivalry with Sakura is expanded in the anime, where he is allowed to actually capture cards via certain stipulations. Since the splitting of Eriol's magic does not occur in the anime, his powers are suggested to still contend hers by the finale as well, where the Nothing Card chooses him as the more powerful of the two (albeit after both are rather beaten down and drained from overuse of magic). Of course, by that time however, Syaoran is hardly an "opponent" of Sakura.
* WouldHitAGirl: Rika would've been ''seriously'' injured if Sakura didn't stop him from having a sword fight with her while she was brainwashed by The Sword.
* YoungestChildWins: He is the only one of his siblings to be born with magical power and a great deal of it to boot.

->''The greatest happiness is seeing someone you like stay happy.''

Tomoyo is Sakura's best friend and second cousin. Tomoyo is one of the few people who knows Sakura's secret as being Master of the Cards, and can always be counted on to be there when one is being hunted down. She's a talented seamstress and is ''very'' fond of making Sakura wear... interesting outfits.
----
* BeautifulSingingVoice: Tomoyo is a member of the school choir and it's repeatedly noted, mostly by Sakura, how lovely her singing is. So lovely in fact that two separate Clow Cards (Song and Voice) take an interest in it.
* BestFriend: She's Sakura's closest and most reliable friend.
* BigFancyHouse: Her house is so big and luxurious that seeing it boggles Sakura.
* CameraFiend: Almost always seen toting a camera around to film, er, footage of Sakura. Heck, it's how she found out about Sakura's secret in the first place when she caught Sakura on camera after she caught the Fly card and was flying back to her house.
* CheerfulChild: Is usually an upbeat ten/eleven-year-old with a positive outlook on situations.
* TheConfidant: Sakura and later on, Syaoran, confide things to her because of her friendly and understanding nature.
* CostumePorn: She's the reason for most of it. Making new costumes for Sakura is one of her hobbies.
* CrazyPrepared: Once outfitted an outfit she was making for Sakura's next encounter with a Clear Card to be waterproofed during lunch break when the weather suddenly turned to rain without warning, and that's before getting into the fact she always seems to take measures whenever a card appears.
* CuteMute: Temporarily becomes this when the song card steals her voice. Undone when Syaoran and Sakura seal the card.
* DisappearedDad: Tomoyo's father is never mentioned in the anime. In the manga, he's only mentioned once in Sakura's inner monologue to acknowledge his absence; he clearly existed, because "Daidouji" is her mother's married name, or else Fujitaka and Touya would have realized sooner that Tomoyo was the daughter of Nadeshiko's cousin, but Tomoyo never mentions him and Sakura doesn't think he's passed away, concluding that it's complicated.
* DubNameChange:
** In the English dub, she becomes Madison Taylor. Her last name doubles as a PunnyName since she makes Sakura's costumes and is therefore her ''tailor''.
** Renamed to Tiffany in the Greek dub.
* TheFace: Tomoyo interacts with everyone and contrasts them with her {{Muggle}}ness. She's also emotional support for Sakura, and Syaoran too after he calms down.
* FamilyEyeResemblance: Has the same shade of violet eyes as her mother, which is notably the ''only'' physical trait they seem to share.
* {{Fangirl}}: All that video recording and gushing about Sakura certainly makes her appear this way.
* TheFashionista: She has designed Sakura some darn creative outfits.
* Fiction500: She's absolutely ''loaded''. She lives in such a BigFancyHouse that her bedroom alone is bigger than the entire second floor of Sakura's house, and personally designs the costumes in Sakura's UnlimitedWardrobe, one such costume being [[ElementalRockPaperScissors composed of rubber to protect against electric attacks.]] Justified by the fact that her mother is the CEO of a toy company.
* {{Flanderization}}: While still having a ditzy affinity for Sakura early on, she was at least slightly more lucid and had some small amount of interaction outside of her.
* FormalCharactersUseKeigo: She's a very well-mannered {{Ojou}} and always speaks very politely.
* GenreSavvy: Of MagicalGirl series. Sakura didn't use {{Invocation}} until Tomoyo told her to.
* HereditaryHomosexuality: She has an unrequited love for Sakura, just like her mother Sonomi did for Sakura's mother Nadeshiko. However, Sonomi always held a grudge against Nadeshiko's husband, in contrast to Tomoyo who has come to terms with Sakura not loving her in the same way and only wishes for Sakura to be happy with the boy she loves.
* HeroWorshipper: She never gets tired of singing Sakura's praises.
* HyperspaceArsenal: Or Hyperspace Wardrobe in her case. She brings a truck seemingly full of outfits in Sakura's size to one of her earliest captures. Shockingly, it's implied in a later chapter that they used most of that supply up.
* HideYourLesbians: Tomoyo's relationship with Sakura is downplayed severely, with even her LoveConfession being incredibly discreet, especially in the Nelvana Dub where it's practically cut completely.
* IncompatibleOrientation: She is in love with Sakura, who is heterosexual and only thinks of Tomoyo as a good friend. Tomoyo doesn't mind because [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy she only wants to see Sakura happy]].
* ItWasAGift: Her most treasured possession is a bunny-shaped eraser that Sakura gave her when they first met.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeFashionable: She ''loves'' to dress Sakura appropriately for missions and more than happy to make costumes for her.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Tomoyo is happy so long as Sakura is happy. Even if it's with Syaoran instead of her.
* KissingCousins: Sakura is her second cousin and Tomoyo loves her to no end.
* LipstickLesbian: A very feminine girl who is also in love with Sakura.
* TheLoad:
** Subverted. She usually falls victim to the cards' spells due to her [[{{Muggles}} lack of magic]] (which, unlike [[BadassNormal Meiling]], isn't balanced by mundane strengths), so usually acts as little more than a cheerleader. As Eriol points out later however, [[LivingEmotionalCrutch this is important to Sakura.]]
** Averted in the sense she ''does'' make herself useful, despite not having any magic powers herself. She gives Sakura suggestions on how to capture the cards, offers herself as a distraction, designs outfits that actually aid her against a specific card's power, and tries to do what she possibly can to help her (lighting the school to capture Shadow, using the freezer to capture Watery, and so on).
* LongHairIsFeminine: Part of the contrast with Sakura is Sakura's short hair+athletics and Tomoyo's much longer hair and more feminine hobbies.
* LongLostRelative: She is Sakura's second cousin, but they didn't know until Sonomi's introduction.
* LovingAShadow: Early chapters of the manga had her appear to have a crush on Touya, as one of the artists wasn't aware that she was supposed to be in love with Sakura. This was later retconned by stating she crushed on him because he reminded her of Sakura.
* MatchmakerCrush: Despite her own feelings for Sakura, Tomoyo actively encourages Syaoran's crush on Sakura because she only wants Sakura to be in a relationship with someone who can make her happy.
* MetaGirl: She offers to make Sakura special clothes for fighting evil when she sees that Sakura doesn't have any.
* MuggleBestFriend: She has no powers nor any connection to magic, and is Sakura's best friend.
* NiceGirl: Tomoyo is very sweet, incredibly perceptive, and never has a bad thing to say about anyone.
* {{Ojou}}: She's wealthy, softspoken, and pretty.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Syaoran. She's as supportive to him as she's to Sakura, but they truly just good friends because both only have eyes for Sakura.
* PrecociousCrush: Subverted; in the manga we're at first led to believe that she has a crush on Touya, but it turns out she only blushes around him because he reminds her of Sakura. Her crush on Touya was a mistake made by one of the artists, which was later retconned.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: In addition to being a pretty {{Ojou}}, her skin's a noticeably lighter shade than most other characters and she's one of the few girls seen to have long, black hair. Interestingly, she doesn't share these traits with her mother Sonomi, which just makes Tomoyo stand out that much more.
* TheReliableOne: Perhaps the most trustworthy and reliable of characters in the story.
* SecretKeeper: The only ordinary human to know about Sakura's status as a Cardcaptor, at least at first.
* ShipperOnDeck: From the moment she notices Syaoran's crush on Sakura, Tomoyo becomes the main supporter of the potential relationship between them.
* SignatureHeadgear: In the anime she's most often associated with her pink hairband, though in the manga she wears [[UnlimitedWardrobe a lot of different hair accessories]].
* SingleTargetSexuality: Shows no romantic interest in anyone but Sakura. And in every CLAMP incarnation she instantly latches herself onto Sakura.
* SkewedPriorities: Filming Sakura takes priority over ''everything else'', including her own well-being, and sometimes, ''her own life''.
* SpoiledSweet: Her mom's wealthy enough to give Tomoyo literally anything she wants which includes hiring full-time bodyguards ''and'' paying for all those outfits and yet Tomoyo is one of the nicest, most caring, giving and selfless people you'll ever meet.
* SuperCostumeClothier: As Sakura is one of the few {{Magical Girl}}s who doesn't have a TransformationSequence, Tomoyo sets about creating [[IWantMyBelovedToBeFashionable all of Sakura's mission outfits]], which are protective and designed to actually aid Sakura against a specific card's power. Especially impressive considering she's just a 10 year old school girl, so even though it's a hobby rather than a profession Tomoyo has a ''literal'' truck load of costume options turn up before a fight, much to Sakura's surprise and embarrassment.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Tomoyo sews and creates all of Sakura's costumes. She's very talented that the costumes fit the situation and are protective.
* TokenRichStudent: Tomoyo is the daughter of a wealthy toy corporation CEO and lives in a huge mansion, but she goes to the same school as her middle-class friends.
* TownGirls: The Femme to Sakura's Neither and Meiling's Butch. She's obviously girlier than Sakura and Meiling.
* TrueBlueFemininity: The blue UsefulNotes/{{Qipao}} she wears in the first film, which contrasts nicely with Sakura's pink tangzhuang. Admittedly, It wouldn't be Tomoyo if she didn't co-ordinate with Sakura's outfit.
* UnfazedEveryman: Tomoyo has no supernatural powers, but does everything she can to support those who do, as well as help keep Sakura's life as a cardcaptor a secret.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: If you ever wonder why Sakura has almost[[note]]one or two costumes were used for more than one card[[/note]] as many outfits as there are cards in the Clow, blame Tomoyo.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: She is very wise for a girl of her age.

!The Kinomoto Family
[[folder:In General]]
* BadassFamily: As each member of their family comes into and discovers their power, it becomes clear that the Kinomoto family (and their friends and associates) is a close knit group of powerful magic users. [[spoiler: Best shown in the climax of the Clear Cloud Arc, where Sakura's family and friends band together to help her. It's why Kaito choose to make Akiho, Sakura's twin. If Akiho's real family comes after her, the Kinomotos can protect her.]]
* FamilyThemeNaming: Combined with FloralThemeNaming. All members of the Kinomoto family have given names of flowers. Sakura is Japanese for CherryBlossoms, Touya's name contains the kanji for "peach blossom", the "fuji" in Fujitaka means "wisteria" and Nadeshiko is a pink variety of dianthus (more specifically, ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianthus_superbus Dianthus superbus]]'', which is held as a symbol of [[YamatoNadeshiko the ideal feminine archetype]] in Japan).
* OpenSecret: [[spoiler: Everyone in the family knew that Sakura was involved in something mysterious and magical since the fourth grade, if they didn't want to pry in to the details. It helps that everyone in the family is magical and that the main characters weren't particularly subtle.]]

Sakura's big brother. He often teases her, calling her "monster" but he has a huge BigBrotherInstinct toward her. He is best friends with Yukito, and has a tendency to switch jobs a lot. Touya can see ghosts, including his mother's when she visits.
----
* TheAce: He's very talented, and can do pretty much anything-- he cooks, cleans, sews, plays soccer, violin, piano, and organ, is a black belt in karate, a good student, and works every job under the sun, everything from waiting tables to working as a costumed stuntman for kids' [=TV=] shows.
* BetaCouple: He and Yukito are this to Syaoran and Sakura. Like Syaoran, he has a hard time actually getting the words out to Yukito, but unlike Syaoran, he's already been in love with Yukito for a while, and is very comfortable with and casual about his closeness to Yukito before actually making his feelings known.
* BigBrotherBully: He likes teasing Sakura by calling her "monster", and relentlessly makes fun of many of her other various flaws and mistakes. Even though he doesn’t truly mean it, he does enjoy provoking a reaction out of her.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Abusing his sister within his hearing/watching range will not end well for the abuser. The only thing that gives him pause before giving his magic to Yukito/Yue is that he'll no longer know when Sakura is in danger, and he makes Yue promise to protect her in his stead. In the Clear Card arc, he becomes concerned about Sakura again [[spoiler:after gaining his magic back]].
* BroughtDownToNormal: He sacrifices his supernatural awareness to save Yukito/Yue. In the Clear Card arc, [[spoiler:some of his magic returns, which is explained by Yue mentioning that he's able to regenerate them again little by little.]]
* CannotSpitItOut: Despite knowing that Sakura is getting involved in magical shenanigans and that Yukito is not actually human, Touya seems incapable of bringing himself to confront them about the subjects. Every time he's on the verge of doing so he changes his mind or gets interrupted. This becomes particularly precarious when Yukito starts collapsing from exhaustion because he's running so low on magic that he's about to disappear and Touya ''still'' isn't able to tell them what's going on. While it is in part because Nakuru does the best she can to sabotage Touya's efforts, considering how much time he spends with Yukito it's a frustrating flaw.
* CharacterExaggeration: Touya's dislike of Syaoran is cranked up in the anime compared to the manga. While he does show some loathing of Syaoran in the manga, he only dislikes him because he knows Syaoran will eventually take his own sister Sakura away from him. In fact, he is the one who gives Sakura food for a sick Syaoran in a manga extra; and, when she wants to see Syaoran as fast as possible, he uses the motorcycle to allow Sakura to catch up to him. In the anime however, he outright hates the boy, never attempting to help the him in any way until the aforementioned motorcycle scene in the Clear Card prequel OVA.
* ChickMagnet: Very popular with girls at school, though he doesn't seem interested.
* CrossCastRole: His role in the anime-exclusive SchoolPlay as Literature/{{Cinderella}}.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and eyes. Averted in the manga, where he has black hair and blue eyes.
* DeadpanSnarker: This guy always, ''always'' has a sarcastic quip towards not just Sakura, but to everyone except ''maybe'' his father.
* DubNameChange:
** In the English dub, he becomes Tori Avalon.
** Renamed to Justin in the Greek dub.
* TheGadfly: His relationship with Sakura is basically mostly comprised of him mildly teasing and irritating her to various degrees. He also once took advantage of being a SecretSecretKeeper this way in Clear Card a number of times just to get a rise out of her.
* GenderBlenderName: In the Nelvana dub, a teenage boy named Tori. Although Touya is indeed a boy's name in Japan, it's often spelled Toya, which is also another diminutive of Victoria.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: He sets himself up as a BigBrotherBully who teases her almost non-stop to the extent that she often fantasizes about bullying him back, but he's actually quite a caring person and fiercely protective of her. Nonetheless, the act is successful enough to convince an AllLovingHero like Sakura that he's nothing but [[PetTheDog an annoying brother with one or another nice moments]], and when she ''actually'' finds out how much he cares, she's driven to tears.
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: He teases Sakura almost non-stop when they're at home, but still has a powerful BigBrotherInstinct and won't stand for anyone else messing with her. The moment Touya saw Syaoran trying to forcibly get the Clow Cards from Sakura, he immediately ''jumped over the fence between his school and Sakura's'' while screaming his bloody head off at Syaoran for bullying his little sister. He would have physically fought Syaoran had Yukito not shown up.
* ISeeDeadPeople: He's the only one in the family who can see their deceased mother thanks to his powers. He later gives up this power to save his Yukito's life.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: Took an instant dislike to Syaoran after spotting him manhandling Sakura for her cards. When Syaoran softened towards her, Touya liked him... even less so, knowing full well he was now destined to steal his little sister away.
* LightningGlare: With Syaoran. More than once. They really don't like each other.
* {{Lunacy}}: [[spoiler: Touya's time power is derived from the moon. This allows the moon aligned characters (Yue, Yukito, Ruby, Kaho) to boost his power's duration.]]
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Touya's sixth sense lets him know that when something is wrong or something magical is happening. He uses that power to keep an eye on Sakura.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: The real reason he doesn't like Syaoran; he doesn't trust his precious little sister with anyone.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: A recurring element of the series is how he'll somehow have gotten a new job at any place Sakura happens to be visiting outside of school. He claims it's because he wants to pay for college with his own money, but the real reason is that he's trying to watch over his sister, as he knows she gets herself into danger.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His sharing of stories about the various ghosts he saw ([[JacobMarleyApparel some of which were missing limbs or stuff like that]]) are the reason that Sakura is terrified of ghosts.
* NonActionGuy: While he'd probably be okay in a non-magical fight, given his athleticism, none of Touya's magical abilities are offensive or defensive. While Kerberos speculates he was the most powerfully magical person in Tomoeda before Sakura became aware of her power, his abilities are all passive and mostly limited to heightened awareness or, in ''Clear Card'', [[spoiler: [[TimeStandsStill stopping time]]]].
* NoSell: His sixth sense allows him to see through magical obfuscation. The Mirror Card and Kero's and Yue's false forms don't fool him.
* OneTrueLove: He and Yukito end as a couple despite all the little things that happen beforehand that could had prevented it from happening. Yukito was supposed to fall in love with Sakura, but because his love for Touya was so strong he never did; and in every CLAMP incarnation they invariably fall in love.
* ThePromise: Promised Nadeshiko on her deathbed that he'd always protect Sakura. He makes Yue promise to always protect Sakura and himself, as a "condition" for giving him his magical power.
* RealMenWearPink: He plays soccer and [[InformedAttribute is a black belt in karate]], but he also cooks, cleans, and sews while wearing a pink apron.
* RippleEffectProofMemory: [[spoiler: Touya's powers grants him some level of immunity from Kaito's magic. He remembers enough to know something is wrong and to know who caused it but not much else.]]
* SecretSecretKeeper: He knows about Sakura capturing the cards and Kero, or at ''very'' least that they're doing something ''very'' important that he cannot interfere with, but pretends to not know. He also knows Yukito is a fake personality, but he gets interrupted by Nakuru every time he tries to reveal it.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly Man to Yukito's Sensitive Guy. Touya is aloof, rough and ill-tempered, while Yukito is kind, sensitive and patient.
* SitcomArchNemesis: To Syaoran, particularly in the anime. Anytime Syaoran appears, they immediately glare at each other, all being RuleOfFunny.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: After he gives up his powers to Yue, he falls asleep more easily and quickly.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Clow Reed apparently expected Yukito to fall in love with Sakura, not Touya, probably to counteract Yue's extreme distaste for the idea of a new master.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Fujitaka mentions that Touya resembles his great-grandfather, Masaki, a lot in terms of appearance.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: He usually acts very cold and aloof, but is actually a very caring person.
* SupremeChef: According to Sakura, he's an even better cook than her. When he isn't cooking, he is often helping her improve by [[TheGadfly taking bites out of her food without asking and commenting on any screw ups]].
* TallDarkAndHandsome: At least according to most of the girls at his school.
* TeacherStudentRomance: He fell in love with Kaho while she was his student teacher. However, the love confession only came after she ''stopped'' being his teacher.
* TimeStandsStill: [[spoiler:As of ''Clear Card'', Touya has developed the ability to stop time for a few seconds. The duration can be extended with the power of the moon.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: A non-romantic Harsh type to Sakura. He loves her dearly and is very overprotective of her, but he can't seem to openly show it. Instead he spends almost every moment he has with her by being a relentless tease.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: Eventually gets together with Yukito and understands that Yukito is fake personality for a supernatural being. He doesn't hesitate to sacrifice his own powers if it means Yukito will be safe.

Sakura and Touya's father. A kindhearted middle-class man, Fujitaka married Nadeshiko when she was just sixteen when he worked as a teacher. He later became a university professor in archaeology.
----
* AgeGapRomance: With his wife Nadeshiko. Nadeshiko was a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl and him a teacher who was starting to teach when they got married.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, he becomes Aiden Avalon.
* FourthDateMarriage: Fujitaka and Nadeshiko got married very early on in their relationship.
* HappilyMarried: He treasures the time he spent with Nadeshiko before her death and honors the promise he made to her that he wouldn't cry over her death.
* HiddenDepths: He may be a university professor but he does ''not'' have GeekPhysique; on the contrary, he's the most athletic in his family and handily wins a "parents only" race during a school Sports Day event.
* HotTeacher: A very handsome man in his 30's/maybe 40's, and he has worked as both a high school teacher and a college professor.
* ISeeDeadPeople: In the manga, he gains the ability of seeing his wife Nadeshiko's ghost, enabling the two to be reunited.
* JapanesePoliteness: He has ''very'' formal speech patterns, referring to everyone (including his kids) as [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseHonorifics "-san".]] The only exception is Sonomi, whom he calls "Sonomi-kun"
* LoveAtFirstSight: He fell in love with Nadeshiko the moment he met her, when she [[CrashIntoHello landed on him]] after rescuing a little bird from a tree. Fujitaka said he thought Nadeshiko was an angel who fell from heaven.
* TheMourningAfter: Nadeshiko was the one and only love of his life and he is still loyal to her years after her death.
* NotWithThemForTheMoney: He didn't care that Nadeshiko was rich, despite the accusations from her family of being a GoldDigger.
* ParentsAsPeople: He does what he can and clearly adores his two children, but is almost always consumed by his work and more than once he laments how often he can't be with his kids when they need it.
* PerpetualSmiler: Rarely seen without a smile. This might be as a result of him promising Nadeshiko that he would never cry for her after her death.
* PreciousPhoto: He puts up a new picture of Nadeshiko every day to keep her memory alive in the house.
* RagsToRiches: Maybe not to spectacular degrees, but going from humble orphan to schoolteacher and ''then'' to being famous university professor with a house that's ''huge'' by Japanese standards is rather nice.
* {{Reincarnation}}: [[spoiler: He is the half-reincarnation of Clow Reed in the manga.]]
* SecretSecretKeeper: In the penultimate episode of the ''Clear Card'' anime, he reveals he's [[spoiler: well aware of Sakura and Touya's mystical abilities, and has known to some extent about Sakura's adventures and the like since she was in fourth grade.]]
* SelfMadeMan: Was an orphan and had to build himself a place in the world. Now he's a well-respected uni professor.
* SplitAtBirth: In the manga, he's [[spoiler: the other half of the reincarnation of Clow Reed.]]
* Standard50sFather: A wise, stable and friendly father.
* TeacherStudentRomance: He fell in love and married one of his students, Nadeshiko. Her family did not take it well.
* WhamLine: The line that first hints at [[spoiler: his reincarnation]]:
-->"[[spoiler: But then everybody around me fell asleep]]".
* {{Workaholic}}: He is almost always seen working, going to work, etc. A whole anime episode is dedicated to his ordeals at the local college.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Even more so than his dead wife, whose name ''was'' Nadeshiko! He's the one raising their kids after she died.

Sakura's deceased mother who was a famous model. Nadeshiko was Sonomi's best friend and cousin whom Sonomi was ''very'' protective of.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the manga, Nadeshiko's hair is black with a purple hue. In the anime, her hair appears brown with a grey hue.
* AgeGapRomance: With her husband Fujitaka. She was a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl and Fujitaka a teacher starting out his career when they got married.
* AngelicBeauty: Even ''before'' she died, Nadeshiko was such a beauty that her husband compared her to an angel. In the series, she appears as an actual angel and looking just as beautiful as when she was alive.
* AthleticallyChallenged: In a sharp contrast to her daughter, Nadeshiko was ''terrible'' at sports. When she went skiing, she slammed into a tree. When she tried to jump over a vaulting box in PE class, she slammed ''into'' it instead, scattering its sections across the floor.
* BigEater: According to Sonomi, she could eat a cake ''by herself''.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: When she was younger, she was rather clueless and spacey.
* CuteClumsyGirl: She was incredibly clumsy. Some flashbacks provide a scene where she trips over nothing while walking to school and laughs about it.
* DeathByOriginStory: Died of an unspecified illness when Sakura was three. Her spirit watches over her family, and even saves Sakura's life when she's confronted by the Illusion Card, but only Touya can see her. Later Touya gives up his ability to see her to save Yue/Yukito... but in the manga, Fujitaka gets it and they're happily reunited.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: If you heard her family talking about her, you'd think she was a saint. With good reason, she was a genuine NiceGirl.
* TheDitz: According to flashbacks, Nadeshiko was something of a bubbly airhead.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, she becomes Natasha Avalon.
* FourthDateMarriage: Fujitaka and Nadeshiko got married very early on.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Met her future husband when she fell from a tree branch while trying to return some baby birds to the nest they fell out of.
* HappilyMarried: Even Sonomi, who was ''very much'' against the marriage, says that Nadeshiko was the happiest and most content she had been in her life after she married Fujitaka.
* KindheartedSimpleton: She was rather ditzy when she was younger, though she always meant well.
* LethalChef: According to Fujitaka, she wasn't the best cook. Sonomi admits that no one could call her Valentine's chocolates good, not even to be nice.
* TheLostLenore: To her husband Fujitaka. Even years after her death, he still loves her and puts up a new picture of her every day.
* MamaBear: Her little girl is about to either drown (manga) or fall off a cliff (anime)? Why, not even death will stop Nadeshiko from helping her! Carries over into ''Clear Card,'' where she confronts Kaito during the Parents Day chapter, and confirms that she was the one who chose the Kinomotos' house due to its magical protections.
* MarriedTooYoung: She was only 16 when she got married, to her high school teacher no less. While their marriage was frowned upon, Nadeshiko and Fujitaka were very much HappilyMarried.
* MissingMom: She died when her daughter was three years old, so Sakura doesn't really remember her.
* ObliviousToLove: Most likely had no idea of Sonomi's feelings for her.
* {{Ojou}}: She came from a rich family.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Appears as an angel after death (especially effective since she already looked rather angelic in life). She is confirmed to be a ghost, though.
* ParentalMarriageVeto: Marrying Fujitaka eventually led to Nadeshiko [[IHaveNoSon being disowned]].
* PosthumousCharacter: She died when Sakura was three years old. We only learn about her through flashbacks and the appearance of her ghost watching over her family.
* StylishSunhats: Nadeshiko's job as a model allowed Fujitaka to keep many pictures of her, with at least one featuring her wearing a sunhat. Flashbacks also show her wearing a sunhat when she visited her grandfather's estate.
* TeacherStudentRomance: Fujitaka was her teacher, and she still went to school even after they got married.
* TeenPregnancy: She married Fujitaka when she was 16, and gave birth to Touya a year later.
* UptownGirl: Her family was more affluent than her husband's.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Downplayed [[IronicName despite her name]], since she ''only'' resembled the archetype after she got married to Fujitaka; while she was gentle, soft-spoken and devoted to her family, she was also a major CuteClumsyGirl and LethalChef. Fujitaka was and still is ''far'' more of a YN than her.

[[quoteright:158:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukito.png]]

Touya's best friend and Sakura's first love interest. A kind, bespectacled BigEater, Yukito is incredibly friendly with Sakura and her friends.
----
* TheAce: Ridiculously gifted in athletics, very surprising considering he wears glasses. Case in point: he can wipe the floor with the basketball team multiple times ''by himself''. It's implied that every sport at his school wants him for their team, but aside from occasionally allowing himself to be recruited as a stand-in for absent players, he refuses to commit to any of them. The only sport he appears to have a genuine interest in is archery. He enters and wins a competition during the series. Not surprising, given that as Yue his weapon of choice is a supply of beam arrows.
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Yukito can't recall what his Yue side does. While Yukito later becomes aware of his 'other self', Yue admits he has yet to allow Yukito to see through his eyes. [[spoiler: Yukito takes steps to avert this in ''Clear Card,'' using the power of the Tsukimine shrine to give himself magic that includes remembering what Yue sees.]]
* BetaCouple: He and Touya are to Syaoran and Sakura. In the manga, Yue implies that Yukito's feelings for Touya are mostly subconscious up until he realizes Touya sacrificed his magic for him-- like Sakura, he didn't really realize he was falling in love with Touya until he already had. Unlike Sakura, the realization itself doesn't cause him any anguish, because he's instead got other realizations that are more pressing. He betrays a little wistfulness over his uncertainty that he isn't sure exactly how Touya feels about him, but Touya's affirmations end up being what helps him come to terms with the nature of his existence, and they are generally much less awkward and less worried about proving themselves to each other.
* BettyAndVeronica: He's the Betty to Syaoran's Veronica towards Sakura's Archie because he is a warm, kind, friendly individual who also lives nearby. He gently rejects Sakura because of his feelings for Touya, and Sakura eventually realizes her feelings for Syaoran.
* BigEater: He likes to eat a lot. At first just for the {{Moe}}, then we learn that it's because his magical energy is getting drained by Yue's latent and then explicit existence.
* ChickMagnet: Just as popular as Touya with girls at school.
* DropInCharacter: Before his importance to the plot was revealed, he was basically this, usually appearing out of the blue whenever Sakura is wondering about things.
* DubNameChange:
** In the English dub, he becomes Julian Star.
** Renamed to Matthew in the Greek dub.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Touya and Syaoran do so.
* FakeMemories: Most of his background is actually false memories, including his grandparents.
* TheGadfly: Downplayed but Yukito enjoys teasing Touya, and at times seems to say things just to get reactions out of others.
* GrewBeyondTheirProgramming: Yukito was originally something like an artificial intelligence that was meant to be a HumanDisguise for Yue and stay close to Sakura, the candidate for becoming the new master of the Clow Cards, until the time for the Final Judgement came. Surprisingly to even Yue, Yukito evolved into a real personality with thoughts and emotions of his own.
* HumanDisguise: Yukito is not a regular human, but a humanlike form that enables the second guardian of the Clow Cards, Yue, to move around without being noticed by non-magical individuals similar to Kero's SleepModeSize. Unlike Kero, however, Yukito really has a mind of his own, making him more of a SplitPersonality instead of a fake identity.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Yukito is the false form of Yue, the moon guardian of the Clow Cards, but he's completely unaware of anything related to magic until very late in the series. As of the ''Clear Card'' arc, [[spoiler: he's come to be brought into the fold enough to receive text updates, seems to have learned how to activate his transformation, and even befriends Kero, but Yukito is still not conscious when Yue is at the forefront... until he makes a vow with the Tsukimine shrine, hoping to be able to protect his loved ones]].
* LossOfIdentity: He angsts for a short while because of the identity issues that come from being a false form.
-->"Almost all of my life... everything that went on with me... it's sustained only of lies!"
* MeaningfulName:
** His surname contains the character for 'moon'. Doubly, Yukito's surname can mean "moon castle"; appropriate considering he's a vessel for Yue, who uses moon magic.
** His first name means 'snow rabbit' which when put with the rest of his name is a reference to the East Asian folktale about [[MoonRabbit the rabbit in the moon]].
* MysticalWhiteHair: His hair is white, hinting at his magical nature.
* NiceGuy: Very polite and helpful to everyone, making him rather popular.
* PrettyBoy: He's tall, slender, and good-looking, and is very popular among girls. And some guys as well.
* RaisedByGrandparents: He says he was raised by his grandparents, but now they are always off traveling... or so he says. This turns out to be untrue, as Yukito's grandparents never really existed due to being a part of his FakeMemories.
* RomanticFalseLead: For most of the series, Yukito is the guy Sakura likes, and the characters support her crush and the series seems to encourage her pursuing him too; however, he ends up rejecting her because he is in love with Touya, and Sakura eventually realizes her feelings for Syaoran.
* SecondLove: Toya fell in love with Yukito after getting over his first love Kaho Mizuki.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Sensitive Guy to Touya's Manly Man. Yukito is kind, sensitive and patient, while Touya is aloof, rough and ill-tempered.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Not shown to have any romantic feelings towards anyone but Touya. And in every CLAMP incarnation they are a couple.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: Prone to dozing off later in the original series. As it turns out, this is because Yue drains his energy.
* SplitPersonality: Sort of, with Yue. It's complicated. Yukito ''is'' really Yue, except that Yukito has his own identity and personality as well.
* TaremeEyes: His cute round eyes befit his sweet and friendly personality. They also contrast Yue's TsurimeEyes.
* TomatoInTheMirror: When Yukito finds out that he's Yue's false form, he has a minor identity crisis until Touya sets him straight.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Toyed with rather interestingly. Yukito only partially looks the part, as he's rather tall and soft-spoken but lacks the dark hair, yet he is only about equal with Sakura in kindness and politeness. Part of the reason why Sakura liked him was because of Yukito's strong resemblance to Fujitaka, ''the'' YN of the series.

[[quoteright:234:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meiling_li_clear_card_arc_1.png]]

An anime-exclusive character and Syaoran's cousin and fiancée from Hong Kong. Meiling arrives in Tomoeda to help Syaoran capture the Clow Cards. At first a ClingyJealousGirl and a BrattyHalfPint, Meiling eventually warms to Sakura and Tomoyo. Though she has no magical abilities despite being from the Li clan, she's still a BadassNormal, being a pro in martial arts alongside Syaoran.
----
* ActionGirl: She's a pro in martial arts.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: She confessed her love to Syaoran when they were young, and she was tearing up and blushing madly while at it.
* AnimeChineseGirl: She comes from Hong Kong, wears Chinese dresses, sports odango pigtails and knows martial arts.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: She's Syaoran's cousin and self-proclaimed fiancée, but he treats her as his bratty and clingy sister figure more than anything.
* BadassAdorable: She's a competent martial artist and a cute AnimeChineseGirl.
* BadassNormal: Unlike Syaoran and Sakura, she has no magic, but is a skilled martial artist; in her debut episode, she manages to momentarily hold her own against the Fight Card.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: A key reason she's able to accept Syaoran loving Sakura instead. She spends some time as a ClingyJealousGirl, though Sakura befriends her and treats her kindly regardless. [[WhyCantIHateYou She's infuriated she can't bring herself to hate Sakura for stealing her fiancé]].
* BerserkButton: Early on, anyone who tries to get close to her Syaoran is bound to receive her wrath.
* BettyAndVeronica: She's the Veronica to Sakura's Betty towards Syaoran's Archie but she's not a pure example. She is his childhood friend who comes from the same magic-and-martial-arts lineage as he does, loves to cook for him, and dreams of being his bride, but also has a haughty and high-maintenance personality.
* BrattyHalfPint: Very loudmouthed and cheeky at first.
* ButtMonkey: She tends to be victim of comical mishaps.
* CanonForeigner: She only appears in the anime, but CLAMP themselves have drawn some illustrations of her.
* CharacterDevelopment: She's first introduced as a BrattyHalfPint who's [[ClingyJealousGirl very clingy towards Syaoran]], but she mellows out as she warms up to Sakura and eventually accepts that she's not the one who Syaoran is in love with. When she returns in the Clear Card Arc, she's considerably more mature and [[TookALevelInKindness nicer]].
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Thanks to her martial arts training, she's strong enough to smash some park penguins with her bare hands... though not without injuring herself.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Apparently, because she knew how intimidating Syaoran is and the fact that he's not really into girls when they were young, she's very confident that they're gonna end up together in the end because she's the only girl Syaoran is shown to care for at the time. The conditional part of her ChildhoodMarriagePromise statement suddenly becomes relevant.
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: To Syaoran. She promised they'd be engaged until he found a girl he truly fell for.
* ClingyJealousGirl: At first, she would literally cling to Syaoran's arm and throw {{Death Glare}}s at Sakura. Then she befriends Sakura while still clinging to Syaoran's arm, and ultimately joins the IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy club with Tomoyo and Touya.
* CryIntoChest: LapPillow variation. After Syaoran tells her he won't marry her because he loves Sakura, Meiling spends the rest of the night crying her heart out into Tomoyo's lap.
* CuteBruiser: Don't let her small stature and her being a cute young girl fool you. She is quite a compitant martial artist.
* DeathGlare: She gives several to a ''terrified'' Sakura in her debut episode.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, she becomes Meilin Rae.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In her first appearance, Meiling bursts into Syaoran's apartment to give him a hug, but as soon as she notices Sakura and Tomoyo, she demands Syaoran to explain who they are, assaults him when he doesn't her an immediate answer and kicks the girls out of the apartment. The following episode just further establishes her as a ClingyJealousGirl.
* {{Expy}}: Even if she is an exclusive anime character, her appearance and personality are somewhat reminiscent of Princess Aska of ''Manga/MagicKnightRayearth''.
* FanOfUnderdog: Perhaps the only other member of the team convinced of Syaoran's superiority and worthiness as Master of the Cards (aside from maybe Sakura herself).
* FeetFirstIntroduction: In episode 19, the first the viewer sees of Meiling are her feet as she steps out of the taxi bringing her to Syaoran's apartment.
* {{Foil}}: To Tomoyo. Both are long-haired girls, though Meiling has odango hair and Tomoyo lets hers loose. Both are childhood friends and cousins to Syaoran and Sakura. [[RedOniBlueOni Meiling has red eyes while Tomoyo's are blue.]] Both are in love with said childhood friends, though Meiling is more possessive and open in regards to it. Both girls help their friends in their quests, but while Tomoyo is TheConfidant, making plans and giving emotional support to Sakura, Meiling is a MoralityPet and later learns to use her ActionGirl skills to her and Syaoran's benefit. Both of them realise that Sakura and Syaoran's romantic love isn't with them but with each other, and ultimately step out of the way to make sure they will be happy together. The contrast is along TomboyAndGirlyGirl lines.
* FriendlyRival: Later in the anime, while still rooting for Syaoran getting the Clow Cards, her treatment of Sakura calms greatly when she finds out she has a crush on Yukito instead.
* GenkiGirl: She's loud, high-spirited and rarely stays still for long. While it's usually PlayedForLaughs, in the beginning this sometimes made ''her'' a more serious issue than some of the cards, as her cheerful side also includes some seriously-played thoughtlessness.
* GirlishPigtails: She ties her hair up into long odango pigtails, emphasizing her immaturity and hotheadedness.
* HopelessSuitor: Unfortunately for Meiling, it's made clear Syaoran will never love her as more than family even before he falls in love with Sakura. Once she accepts Syaoran is in love with someone else, Meiling finally gives up on marrying him and comes to return his familial love.
* {{Hypocrite}}: She refers to Sakura as ditzy and flaky, even though she herself fits these descriptions as well, especially with her ClingyJealousGirl tendencies in the beginning.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Her super confidence about what skills she has is actually used to hide how she's nervous and unsure due to what she doesn't have (Magic and Syaoran's love are the two major ones). Her confident act slips once or twice, then fully in the second season episode when she's PutOnABus.
* InformedAbility: Meiling apparently has an extraordinary singing voice. Note; the key word is apparently.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: When she was younger, she fell madly in love with Syaoran, and convinced him to enter a ChildhoodMarriagePromise via a deal -- if he ever found the one he truly loved, she would give him up, but until then she would be his fiancée. When she realises that he loves Sakura (and that she can't bring herself to hate Sakura), she follows her end of the deal.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's narcissistic and obnoxious, but ultimately kind-natured and plucky.
* KissingCousins: Syaoran is her cousin and she decided she wanted to marry him since they were kids.
* KnowNothingKnowItAll: On occasion, such as a track race when she showed off and then collapsed.
* LargeHam: Her dub voice dials up her brattiness. Her Latin-American voice actress usually voices HotBlooded boys, and it shows through her super energetic portrayal.
* LittleMissBadass: Took on the Fight Card (that is, a supernatural being created to do nothing but fight, and to do it well) in hand-to-hand combat, knowing full well that she couldn't beat it, just to distract it long enough for Sakura to figure out how to seal it. She literally almost got killed in the process, but it was [[CrazyEnoughToWork crazy enough to work]].
* LittleMissSnarker: Occasionally, she can pull off the deadpan part. Best exemplified by [[https://31.media.tumblr.com/2091d69deeedfa5d0245aaca8344c762/tumblr_nnn3r9jRmN1r922azo1_r1_500.gif this gif.]]
* TheLoad: A few times during earlier occasions, [[HeroicSelfDeprecation and she hates it.]] Though she gains BadassNormal cred later on.
* MuggleBornOfMages: She's ''also'' a descendant of Clow Reed, but lacks magic. She's ''not'' happy about it.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Not that she's particularly malicious, more like childish and ''very'' expressive.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: She's frequently hugging Syaoran or clinging to his arm because she thinks they're officially engaged. However, Syaoran doesn't feel the same way and is very uncomfortable with Meiling's displays of affection.
* {{Ojou}}: Of the RoyalBrat variety. Sharing the Clow Reed lineage makes her haughty.
* OneNoteCook: Excellent when making Chinese food. A disaster in anything else, ''especially'' baking.
* PluckyGirl: She took on the Fight Card despite repeated pummelling.
* PsychoRangers: With Syaoran in the anime given that she is an "antagonistic" mirror of Sakura's muggle best friend, Tomoyo.
* PutOnABus: Her parents make her return to Hong Kong near the end of the second season. TheBusCameBack in season three.
* RedOniBlueOni: The hotheaded and impulsive Red Oni to Syaoran's more level-headed Blue Oni.
* SamaritanRelationshipStarter: Back when they were children, Meiling was actually a bit afraid of Syaoran because he was so unfriendly and quiet. One day, Meiling's pet bird escaped from its cage, leaving her in tears. To make her stop crying, Syaoran ran into the woods to find the lost bird and didn't return until he found it, even when it started raining. This was the moment when Meiling fell in love with him.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The grumpy Syaoran has to put up with the lion's share of Meiling's high-energy antics.
* SelfProclaimedLoveInterest: She declares herself Syaoran's fiancée due to their ChildhoodMarriagePromise. Syaoran doesn't take it too seriously, though.
* SingleTargetSexuality: She only loves Syaoran, and nobody else.
* SixthRanger: A late addition to the Cardcaptor team.
* SoreLoser: She's always bitter when she and Syaoran lose to Sakura at capturing a card.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She's a loudmouthed martial artist and much less girly compared to Sakura and Tomoyo, but is still very interested in romance, and it's hinted in the episode "Sakura and the Sakura from the Dream" during a montage early on that she may have studied ballet. [[FeminineWomenCanCook She's also no slouch in the cooking department]].
* TookALevelInKindness: From ClingyJealousGirl, to FriendlyRival, to ShipperOnDeck for Sakura and Syaoran.
* TownGirls: The Butch to Sakura's Neither and Tomoyo's Femme. She's loud, aggressive and more of a physical fighter than Sakura and Tomoyo.
* {{Tsundere}}: The Harsh type, as she's arrogant to everyone except Syaoran, who's the only one she shows any deredere towards. The change can be instantaneous, and it scares the crap out of him.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Even though Syaoran doesn't take their "engagement" seriously, Meiling is determined to use her martial arts to defend him as much as she can. She even takes on the Fight card for him and gets furious when Fight kicks Syaoran.
* WhyCantIHateYou: After Syaoran cuts off their engagement because of his love for Sakura, Meiling admits to Tomoyo that, even though she's angry and heartbroken, she still can't bring herself to hate Sakura for it, something she feels is the biggest insult of all.

->''I didn't know everything. There were a couple things that happened that weren't expected by myself or Clow Reed''

Eriol arrives as a NewTransferStudent who quickly befriends Sakura and Tomoyo. However he turns out to be an antagonist of sorts in the final third of the series, as he is really the reincarnation of Clow Reed.
----
* TheAce: He is skilled at more or less everything, apparently just like Clow Reed was.
* AdaptationDyeJob: The parts of Eriol's signature mage costume that are red in the manga are blue in the anime.
* BadassBookworm: He looks the quiet, studious type and he is also the most skilled mage alive.
* BenevolentBoss: He can be firm at times with Spinel and Ruby at times but he cares for them deeply, just as Clow Reed did Yue and Cerberus.
* BigBadFriend: Although he's more of a NominalVillain, he spends all of the third season antagonising Sakura while being her friend at school.
* TheChessmaster: OnceAnEpisode he would move the others around for some plan to transform another Clow Card.
* ConsummateLiar: He becomes Yamazaki's partner in crime in telling elaborate lies, and because of his seemingly genuine nature, suddenly Yamazaki's stories become ever so slightly more convincing.
* CrypticConversation: Has a tendency to give these out, each one making him seem even more suspicious to the audience.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Has blue hair and blue eyes. A few manga illustrations have his hair color as black though.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, he becomes Eli Moon.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Despite his hair being dark blue instead, the contrast is definitely there, and it’s spooky given his actions.
* EvilPlan: Invoked. He pretends to be a shadowy villain with a devious agenda to give Sakura opportunities to transform the Clow Cards.
* EvilSorcerer: Seems like a new magical villain at first but it's just an act. Though that's not to say he doesn't have fun playing the part.
* GoodAllAlong: It's ultimately revealed that him forcing Sakura to transform the Clow cards is necessary, as the cards take their magical energy from their master. Until Sakura converts them, they can not use her magic energy as they were still using the small and ever dwindling amounts energy leftover from Clow Reed and thus were slowly dying. Yue would have also suffered the same fate even sooner had Touya not given him all of his magical power to prevent both Yue ''and'' Yukito from dying. If that's not enough, all of the tense and dangerous situations Eriol puts Sakura through are because he has to give her a reason to convert the cards, as her doing so without a need could have sent the cards out of control and/or drained the life of their master. Thus, all of Eriol's manipulations are not just to save both the cards and the guardians but ultimately to save ''Sakura's'' own life as well.
* GuileHero: Pulls his heir and descendants' strings to fulfill his goal of saving all his creations and helping his successor.
* HeroAntagonist: He serves as this role in the third season where he puts Sakura through a series of tests in order to help convert the cards into Sakura cards.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: He pretends to be evil and manipulates Sakura to both save Sakura's life and preserve his creations.
* IKissYourHand: Eriol kisses Sakura's hand after helping her finish a teddy bear. Because Eriol is an English exchange student, this comes off as very chivalrous and gentlemanlike and pisses the ''hell'' out of Syaoran.
* MagicStaff: Wields Clow Reed's long, golden, sun-shaped staff.
* NeverGrewUp: In addition to remembering all of Clow's (several hundred years long) lifespan, he also stopped his body's aging at 11 years old for an unspecified amount of time. It's unclear if he's aging or not in ''Clear Card''.
* NewTransferStudent: He enters Sakura's life when he arrives at Sakura's school as a new student.
* NominalVillain: Eriol creates problems for Sakura to fix, but not out of malice. He does it to force her to convert the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards before they lose their power. He uses tricks and lies, but he has a reason for doing so.
* ObviouslyEvil: Since his very introduction, it's painfully obvious that Eriol is behind the season's magical deeds and has some connection to Clow Reed, if only because he looks exactly like a child version of him. Subverted at the end because he is not evil, but the assumption is true -- he looks like him because [[spoiler: he ''is'' him]].
* OlderThanHeLooks: He stopped his body's aging at 11 years old. It's unknown how old he really is, but he's probably as old as [[spoiler: Sakura's father]] since they are two halves of the same soul in the manga.
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Eriol frequently manipulated the cast, threatened Sakura's friends and family, and yet is still considered good because it was "necessary" for Sakura to be subjected to these things. Clow Reed could see the future, after all.
* PerpetualSmiler: Inherits the trait from the original Clow Reed, but while Clow's smile is unambiguously kind, Eriol's is unnerving and vaguely ominous, lampshading his trickster nature.
* {{Reincarnation}}: He was Clow Reed in his previous life although he is clear that they are not exactly the same person.
* RomanticFalseLead: Seems a more courteous and more charismatic suitor for Sakura than Syaoran. In reality, he's a ShipperOnDeck who deliberately invokes this trope and GreenEyedMonster to bring out Syaoran's affections for Sakura.
* SecondLove: Turns out he's the second love interest of Kaho Mizuki. The reason why she broke up with Touya in the past was because she knew she would fall in love with Eriol later, as Touya would with Yukito.
* ShipperOnDeck: He is actively responsible for helping Syaoran realize his feelings for Sakura, and for helping Sakura realize Yukito only loves her platonically.
* StealthMentor: Put Sakura through a number of tribulations in order for her to transform her cards into Sakura cards. If she knew his plan from the start, she wouldn't have tried as hard she did.
* ThatManIsDead: "Clow Reed will never appear on this earth again". All Eriol inherited was his power and memory. Although, as Kero points out, their personalities are also similar.
* TrainingFromHell: All the crazy situations he puts Sakura through can count as this, as it's to make her into a worthy successor for Clow Reed, i.e. himself.
* TraitorShot: Eriol gets a ton of these, smirking evilly the moment no one is in sight only to turn out to be TheChessmaster with no malicious intentions.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Subverted; his classmates think that he's more mature than most kids their age, but his maturity is actually due to being OlderThanHeLooks.
* TheWorfEffect: In ''Clear Card'', [[spoiler:while Eriol is debriefing Kero and Yue, Kaito interrupts their conversation by destroying Eriol's magic circle. Eriol tries to fight back, but he only succeeds in breaking Kaito's magic circle and scratching his watch, whereas the latter shattered parts of his staff, left him weakened, and blocked communication to Kero and Yue. The purpose of this scene was to show how powerful Kaito was, to the point that even Eriol, one of the most powerful magicians existing, had trouble standing up to him.]]

A CuteBookworm who loves ghosts stories and is a NightmareFetishist.
----
* AllThereInTheManual: Her LongDistanceRelationship is only stated in an interview by the creators -- apparently, it didn't make the final cut of the manga.
* BespectacledCutie: Her glasses make her quite cute.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and eyes.
* CuteBookworm: She likes reading books and writing stories.
* DubNameChange:
** In the English dub, she becomes Nikki.
** Renamed to Nicole in the Greek dub.
%%* LongDistanceRelationship: It is revealed in an interview that she has this with her boyfriend.
* NightmareFetishist: She ''adores'' supernatural stories.
* NoIndoorVoice: In the European Spanish dub she inexplicably yells every time she talks. It's implied she may have hearing issues in said dub because, in Episode 60, a line where she said she was going to have piano classes was changed to her having an appointment to the otolaryngologist.
* PluckyGirl: She never ever gives up on anything.
* PomPomGirl: She's a cheerleader, a competitive cheerleader at that, despite being clumsy and wearing glasses. In the ''Clear Card'' arc, she decides to join the drama club instead now that she's in middle school.
* RewritingReality: For a short while (albeit obliviously), when the Create card falls into her hands.

One of Sakura's close friends. She often exposes Yamazaki's lies to the bewildered Sakura and Syaoran.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her auburn hair from the manga was changed to chestnut brown in the anime.
* BerserkButton: She really, really, ''really'' cannot tolerate Yamazaki's lies, leading her to (comically) strangle him whenever he starts telling them.
* BetaCouple: With Yamazaki because they have less drama than our alpha couple.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and eyes.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: PlayedForLaughs: She usually strangles Yamazaki when he starts telling lies.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, she becomes Chelsea. Ditto for the Greek dub.
* GirlishPigtails: She's a cute young girl with her hair tied up into braided pigtails. She also shows {{Tsundere}} tendencies towards Yamazaki.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Her room is filled with stuffed animals, and she sleeps with some of them in her bed.
* PluckyGirl: Another member of the "tiny little girl who lives her life at the fullest and never gives up for too long" league.
* PuppyLove: With Yamazaki. They're already dating in elementary school.
* RelatedInTheAdaptation: In the Nelvana dub, she and Yamazaki are related in order to justify the random acts of violence as ClashingCousins rather than PuppyLove, as the dub was very averse to romance of any kind. Basically the heterosexual version of [[Anime/SailorMoon Michiru and Haruka in the DiC dub]].
* ThoseTwoGirls: Along with Naoko and Rika, she's one of Sakura's classmates and friends in school. Unlike Tomoyo, they never going her in capturing cards and are just around to provide more interactions in the school scenes.
* {{Tsundere}}: The Sweet type. She's cute, outspoken and very much a GenkiGirl... until set off by Yamazaki either missing the point of her advances or telling his outrageous lies.

A shy, nervous, but well-educated girl who has a PrecociousCrush on the CoolTeacher Mr. Terada.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Rika has grayish hair in the manga, but the anime made it dark brown.
* AgeGapRomance: She's an elementary school student while Mr. Terada is her thirty-something teacher. In the manga, they are a couple and are intending to get married when she comes of age.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Briefly, when she puts on a sword-shaped pin that actually is the dormant form of The Sword card. Sakura debrainwashes her using The Illusion to confuse her, and then disarms her.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Dark brown hair and eyes.
* DemonicPossession: The Sword is not ''demonic'' per se, but it still counts because it controlled her and made her dangerous.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, she becomes Rita.
* HairAntennae: In the anime, she has them but, unlike Sakura, they are not reflective of obliviousness.
* HairIntakes: The two "cat ears" in her hairdo.
* InconsistentColoring: Rika's hair color differs widely in the manga colored illustrations. It has been depicted as gray, grayish brown and even platinum blonde.
* PrecociousCrush: Terada-sensei is both her crush and much older than her.
* PutOnABus: She was explicitly written out in ''Clear Card Arc'', since she's now attending a different middle-school than the rest of the cast. She's had two brief appearances during the arc however, talking to Sakura over the phone in one and physically appearing for a brief scene in Episode 17.
* SupremeChef: A preteen version. She is shown to be able to cook extremely well.
* TeacherStudentRomance: She has a crush on Mr. Terada. In the manga he likes her back, though they decide to wait until she's older; in the anime, he's simply oblivious.
* ThoseTwoGirls: Along with Naoko and Chiharu, she's one of Sakura's classmates and friends in school. Unlike Tomoyo, they never going her in capturing cards and are just around to provide more interactions in the school scenes.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: She is very wise and mature for a girl of her age.
* YamatoNadeshiko: At some point Sakura comments on how she is both ''very'' classy and ''very'' nice.

Syaoran's best friend in school. His [[EyesAlwaysShut eyes are always closed]] and he has a humourous habit of making up exaggerated stories about the origins of various subjects, which Sakura and Syaoran always fall for.
----
* BadLiar: No one believes his lies except for [[SuperGullible Sakura and Syaoran]], ''especially'' Chiharu, who knows him like the palm of her hand and ''immediately'' stops him [[AmusingInjuries very violently]] when he goes overboard.
* BetaCouple: With Chiharu because they have less drama than our alpha couple.
* ButtMonkey: Always on the receiving end of Chiharu's tantrums, which almost always come after he starts telling his lies. It's played far more seriously in the second movie, where he's seriously wounded during one of The Nothing's attacks. This allows Syaoran to take the role of the Prince in the school play -- while Sakura is the Princess.
* CrossCastRole: In the school play that leads to Sakura capturing The Light and the Dark. His role changes depending on the media: in the manga he's the evil fairy, whereas in the anime [[CanonForeigner Meiling]] becomes the evil fairy and he plays the Queen Mother instead.
-->'''Anime!Touya''': [[LampshadeHanging "... T-that Queen is played by a boy!?"]]
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, he becomes Zachary Marker.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Chiharu calls him "lines-for-eyes" due to this. They actually open on a few occasions, specially when Chiharu throttles him for lying. Meiling believes that they open every time he tells the truth; it turns out they just open because Chiharu was stepping on his foot.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Named for producer Takashi Yamazaki, who is a good friend of Creator/{{CLAMP}}.
* ObliviousToLove: Poor Chiharu, he never notices when she tries to be affectionate.

!The Clow Cards / Sakura Cards
[[folder:In General]]
[[quoteright:266:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cardback.png]]
[[caption-width-right:266:Left: Clow | Right: Sakura]]

A deck of magical cards created by Clow Reed. Each card is actually a spirit with its own power as described by its name. They grew so strong that Clow Reed created the Clow Book to keep the cards in. Sakura accidentally lets the cards loose leading to the series GottaCatchEmAll story. She later has to transform them into Sakura Cards so they can be kept alive via her magical energy.

In the manga, there are a mere nineteen cards[[note]]The four elemental cards (Windy, Watery, Fiery and Earthy), Wood, Jump, Fly, Flower, Sword, Illusion, Thunder, Shadow, Mirror, Shield, Maze, Erase, Glow, Light and Dark[[/note]]; there are [[CanonForeigner fifty-two]] cards in the anime, plus three more by the end of the second movie when the Nothing and an unnamed card created by Sakura fuse together to create the Hope Card. In the ''Clear Card'' arc, the cards transform into transparent "Clear Cards" and become unusable, while new cards have to be captured.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: All humanoid cards have unnatural skin colors to make them look different from humans.
* AmbiguousGender: Most of the cards are classified as "it", though some of their forms blatantly resemble a male or female being. Dash is referred to as male on occasions as well.
* BroughtDownToNormal: Kero explains to Sakura why she must transform the cards into Sakura Cards -- without a magical energy source, the cards will lose their magic and thus become normal lifeless cards. This is altered in the English dub, Kero claiming if the cards lose their energy source, they will likely go power mad and level whole cities to look for new magic.
* CanonForeigner: There are only nineteen cards featured in the manga, making the majority of the cards anime-only exclusives.
* CardsOfPower: They're magical cards that contain sentient spirits. After Sakura captures one, she can later use its abilities for herself.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Mirror and Dash got whole episodes to themselves even after their captures. The cards' treatment as a whole develops from being mere forces of magic to loyal companions of Sakura.
* DubNameChange: In the ''Cardcaptors'' dub, the Sakura Cards are renamed as Star Cards.
* DullSurprise: In the manga, the cards actually have emotions when summoned, examples being Windy's horror at realizing Firey is using her powers against her, or Wood looking downfallen after seeing her powers were useless against Dark. In the anime, however, most of the time the cards are drawn with rather serious and lifeless expressions.
* EmpathicWeapon: All of them have a will of their own, but they rarely communicate directly, except with Mirror.
* FacialMarkings: Several humanoid cards have a mark on the forehead.
* {{Familiar}}: They effectively serve as this. They allow their master to achieve a magical effect instantly without casting a spell themselves, and they turn require thir master's magical energy to exist.
* HeelFaceTurn: Whenever a card is captured it becomes loyal to its master. In ''The Sealed Card'' they refuse to change hands from their previous benevolent master Sakura.
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: By stipulation, the cards when captured go to whoever defeated them. This allowed Syaoran to claim a fair amount in the anime, though they are all handed to Sakura after she passes The Final Judgement.
* LivingMacGuffin: Fifty-three (or fifty-five) to pick from and all they drive the story and episode plots.
* MagicalGirlWarrior: Many of the cards take on the form of cute warrior girls.
* NatureSpirit: All the cards, but Wood seems to fit the trope mostly.
* ObliviouslyEvil: Most of the cards when they are released have mischievous and destructive tendencies, but all turn good by the end of the series.
* PointyEars: Most of the cards with humanoid forms have pointy elf-like ears.
* PowerGlows: The cards glow when active and nearly every card's true form seems to have a light aura around it.
* PutOnABus: In ''Clear Card'', the Sakura Cards mysteriously become transparent and unusable [[spoiler:due to Syaoran salvaging their powers]], and Sakura must capture new Clear Cards that are [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute suspiciously similar]] to the Clow.
* SealedEvilInACan: Though not necessarily evil, the Clow Cards were sealed due to their destructive powers, but their release allowed them to be tamed by Sakura. The Nothing is more in line with the trope.
* SolarAndLunar: Firey, Earthy, Light, and the 23 cards under their command are aligned with the Sun and Western magic, ruled by Kerberos. Watery, Windy, Dark, and the 23 cards under their command are aligned with the Moon and Eastern magic, ruled by Yue.
* TheSpeechless: Most cards have no vocalization at all, even the ones with humanoid unsealed form. The only cards shown to be capable of speech are Mirror, Light, Dark and Nothing.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: Played with. All of the cards have "The" in front of their names as they're written on their original card forms (likely to give them a similar feel to tarot cards), but they're never addressed this way, even when naming what card they are.
* UndyingLoyalty: When they are captured by Sakura, they return her love and devotion to them. They seem loyal to Clow and Syaoran during their duration with them too.
* WeatherControlMachine: Windy, Snow, Storm, Rain and Cloud can all change the weather.
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Windy]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowwindy.png]]

* BlowYouAway: Its primary magic is to create strong winds.
* TechnicolorWind: When released, Windy is shown as a pale yellow woman with green accents, and can cast [[WindIsGreen green]] and yellow gusts.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Fly]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowfly.png]]

* AdaptationalVillainy: Fly was stated to be aggressive thanks to an injury on its leg in the manga; the anime turned it into a chaotic monster.
* GiantFlyer: Its unsealed form is crane-like bird larger than houses.
* PowerGivesYouWings: It gives Sakura wings to fly. Originally, it gave them to her staff, but after becoming a Sakura Card, the wings appear on Sakura's back instead.
* SizeShifter: In the manga, Fly appears as giant due to it lashing out because of its injury. When it was comforted by Sakura, it shrunk to a smaller, infantile size.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Shadow]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowshadow.png]]

* AdaptationalVillainy: Shadow was turned into a wicked prankster in the anime, while in the manga, it was explained that it was testing Sakura to see if she really was worthy of collecting the cards.
* BlackCloak: A non-villainous example. Shadow is nothing but a billowing, GrimReaper-ish black cloak in its true form.
* CastingAShadow: Shadow can control the shadows of people and objects at its master's command. It's also capable of ShadowPin because it does all things magically.
* LivingShadow: Before being sealed, Shadow is a literal shadow that moves on its own.
* LogicalWeakness: Shadow is captured by being exposed to very strong lights that cast no shadows.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Watery]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowwatery.png]]

* BeefGate: Despite being situated in an aquarium close to Sakura's home, Kero attempts to discourage her from confronting the Watery, telling her that the cards she has on hand aren't enough to handle such an aggressive being. She still captures it by luring it into a freezer and locking it inside.
* LogicalWeakness: Watery is captured by being lured into a freezer and locked inside.
* MakingASplash: Watery is able to control water and create whirlpools and tidal waves.
* NonHumansLackAttributes: When Watery is flying, she looks like a mermaid, she is naked, but [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/powerlisting/images/1/1b/The_Watery_2_12799-theAnimeGallery.com-.jpg she has no nipples]].
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: The Watery appears as a mermaid with a fish tail.
* PerpetualFrowner: Watery is always scowling.
* WaterIsWomanly: Watery appears as a female, long-haired blue mermaid who becomes calmer and much less aggressive when Sakura captures her.
* WingedHumanoid: Watery flies on wings made of water.

* BunniesForCuteness: Its card depicts it as a cute bunny with angel wings.
* InASingleBound: Jump's magic grants Sakura the ability to leap to great heights.
* KillerRabbit: It is shaped like a rabbit, and was pretty antagonistic when it first appeared, with a menacing look on its face.
* MercurysWings: When Jump is used, wings form around Sakura's ankles.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: An adorable pink bunny with angel wings.
* ToyDisguise: A variation. When it was unsealed, it took over a stuffed panda bear from a toy store.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Illusion]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowillusion.png]]

* MasterOfIllusion: It has the power to create illusions, which take the form of what the observer wants or expects to see at the moment.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Silent]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowsilent.png]]

* BerserkButton: Silent hates noise so much that she teleports anyone who makes noise in front of her out of the room.
* CurseOfBabel: The Silent presents a version of this, capable of stifling noise in a location. If the source proves too annoying, the Silent will teleport it away.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Silent appears as a woman with her eyes closed.
* {{Teleportation}}: Silent can magically transport the source of any noise away from herself, albeit only over short distances.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Sword]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowsword.png]]

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: It's able to cut even through the otherwise unbreakable Shield, and even through Loop's magic.
* CoolSword: Sword is a gorgeous RoyalRapier when unsealed.
* ImplausibleFencingPowers: The user seems to become an expert fencer while wielding it.
* WeaponWieldsYou: The Sword possesses its wielder and automatically makes them an expert fencer.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Flower]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowflower.png]]

* FlowersOfFemininity: The Flower card is depicted as a pretty young woman in a frilly, tiered gown and she has flower decorations that dangle from both of her ears.
* GenkiGirl: All she wants to do is dance and create pretty flowers around her. When Sakura faces her, Flower takes her hands and happily tries to dance with her.
* GirlishPigtails: She's the most feminine card and her hair is dressed in corkscrew pigtails.
* GracefulLoser: She offers no resistence when re-sealed, likely because she had fun and thinks it's okay to "go home" after she's done with it.
* GreenThumb: Her power is making flowers fall around her as she dances.
* InnocentFlowerGirl: Flower just wanted to join the SchoolFestival. There's absolutely no malice here. When Sakura did her "Return to your true form!" thing, she's like "okay".
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her dress has a plunging neckline that nearly reaches her waist.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Flower's unsealed form is a feminine young woman wearing a pink dress.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Shield]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowshield.png]]

* AntiMagic: In addition to protecting against physical attacks, it protects those within from the effects of magic, even things like time rewinding.
* DeflectorShields: Its power is to construct a powerful barrier.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Time]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowtime.png]]

* FatherTime: The only Card that is unambiguously male, clearly inspired by the classic image of Father Time as a bearded old man.
* TimeMaster: Time has free control over the movement of time, having the ability to speed it up, slow it down, freeze it, or even create a GroundhogDayLoop.
* TimeStandsStill: Since Time requires a lot of power, Sakura and Syaoran are only able to use it to stop time for a short while.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Power]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowpower.png]]

* BadassAdorable: Power appears as a cutesy-looking, pink-clad little girl, but no other card is as physically strong as her.
* CuteBruiser: Resembles a little girl who packs a massive punch.
* LittleMissBadass: Power takes the form of a small girl and packs a massive punch.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Despite her small size, Power is capable of lifting up an adult elephant.
* SuperStrength: Power has tremendous, superhuman strength. The card also grants super strength to its user, as shown when Sakura uses it to knock out the Fight card with just one tap of her wand.
* TutuFancy: She wears a pink, tutu-like dress.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Move]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowmove.png]]

* AwesomeButImpractical: On paper, The Move sounds like an extremely useful card, given that it has the ability to teleport things from one place to another. However, it can only move one object at a time, it can't move heavy objects, it can't move objects any bigger than a book or pencil, and it can only move non-living items. Given all these limitations, the card is essentially useless.
* {{Teleportation}}: Move is capable of inhabiting objects and magically moving them by making them disappear from one place and appear in another. However, Move can only move small inanimate objects and only for a short distance.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Fight]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowfight.png]]

* AnimeChineseGirl: She has a decidely Chinese clothing and hairstyle, and she's associated with martial arts.
* BareFistedMonk: She's the only card to fight bare handed.
* CuteBruiser: She's the most straightforward punch-you-in-the-face card and has an attractive humanoid true form.
* GirlishPigtails: She appears as a teenage girl with two, long odango pigtails.
* ShowgirlSkirt: Her dress has a long skirt splitting at the front in a form of tail fins, which reveal the LeotardOfPower she wears underneath.
* SpiritedCompetitor: She went around the streets at night challenging powerful martial artists in an attempt to find someone who can measure up to her. She also mostly ignores Sakura, only aiming at her when she activates Power Card.

[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowsong.png]]

!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/AyaHisakawa (real form), Creator/SakuraTange (when transformed as Sakura)
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowmirror.png]]

* AttackReflector: She can manifest as an actual mirror to reflect attacks.
* CriminalDoppelganger: Since she was aware of who is collecting the cards, Mirror decided to damage Sakura's reputation as a form of taking her out. She did this by going around causing disturbances in local stores.
* CuteOversizedSleeves: Mirror's true form appears as a cute girl wearing a Chinese style dress with long sleeves that covers her hands.
* EasilyForgiven: She tricks Touya by taking Sakura's appearance and makes him fall off a cliff, seriously injuring him. However, Touya doesn't resent her for this, in part because he thought she was a wandering spirit at the time and wanted to help her pass on. Afterwards, Touya knows when she's taking Sakura's place and keeps being nice to her.
* EmergencyImpersonation: Sakura uses the Mirror card to cover for her whenever she needs to be in two places at the same time.
* {{Humanshifting}}: Mirror can take the form of any other person, usually Sakura.
* ILetYouWin: Mirror is a card that can't be harmed by other cards and the only way to seal her is [[IKnowYourTrueName figuring out her name]]. However, by the time she faces Sakura, Mirror has lost any will to antagonize her because she feels guilty about tricking and hurting Touya. She indirectly reveals herself as the Mirror card by copying Sakura's movements and allows Sakura to seal her.
* ItWasAGift: After Touya gives Mirror a pair of ribbons for Christmas, the ribbons appear in her hair on the card.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After Touya keeps trying to help her even after she made him fall off a cliff, Mirror deeply regrets hurting him and lets Sakura capture her.
* SignatureHeadgear: In the manga, she wears a small mirror over her forehead.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Mirror seems to have developed a one-sided crush on Touya since [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe he treated her very kindly]] despite how she got him injured.
* TearsOfRemorse: Right before she is sealed away, Mirror floats over to a bruised and unconscious Touya, tearfully apologizes to him for hurting him, kisses him on the forehead and says: "I'm sorry."
* WingedHumanoid: Mirror has fairy-like glass wings protruding from her back.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Dash was among the few cards that didn't antagonise Sakura after it was released, befriending a young girl and acting as her pet. [[/folder]]

[[folder:The Cloud]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clowcloud.png]]

* {{Cumulonemesis}}: She is depicted as a small child with puffy hair that resembles clouds, and is able to create and manipulate clouds. While not necessarily a 'nemesis', Sakura and Syaoran have to capture her and transform her back into a card as part of their mission (and the anime's premise).
* ElementalHairComposition: Cloud's hair is poofy and cloud-like, with straight bangs on either side of its face ending in cloud puffs.
* WeatherManipulation: Cloud creates thick clouds all over the sky which it can move however it pleases.

* CoolCrown: Both wear a spiked crown.
* CynicIdealistDuo: A mild example. Light believed in Sakura's power from the start, and chose to hide in her heart for that very reason, as she confidently said to Dark. Meanwhile, Dark really needed to see Sakura in action in order to accept her as the Cardcaptor, and rather than encouraging her like Light did, she simply told her to do her best, as Yue would be the one to decide after the Final Judgement.
* TheDividual: Light and Dark always appear together. Sakura captures them and converts them into Sakura cards together.
* ElementalHairColors: Light has long white hair and Dark has long black hair.
* HairContrastDuo: Going in line with their contrasting elements, Light is white-haired and Dark is black-haired.
* LightDarknessJuxtaposition: Done very explicitly with Dark and Light, who are counterparts in appearances and powers and who must be sealed together.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: While both appear as beautiful and feminine women, Light dresses in white and Dark dresses in black to represent their elements. Light is also helpful and friendly to Sakura from the get-go while Dark antagonizes her as part of a SecretTestOfCharacter.
* LightIsGood: Light is the most benevolent of the cards, to the point she never caused troubles for Sakura before her sealing and helped her seal Dark along with her.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Light and Dark's dresses have a subtle slit that runs down their stomachs. When they transform into Sakura Cards in the manga, they get rid of it.
* NightAndDayDuo: Light's card depicts her with a sun and a cloud, while Dark's card depicts her with a moon and a star.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Dark is a beautiful woman with long black hair and pure white skin.
* TheSacredDarkness: Dark is a benevolent and necessary card just like all the others.
* YinYangBomb: Light and Dark together are the only way that Sakura could overcome Eriol's final spell in the third season.

* DubNameChange: Becomes the Hope card in the Nelvana dub.
* NeverGivenAName: The card is nameless.
* ThePowerOfLove: This card was created from Sakura's love for Syaoran. In TheMovie, it's the card's intervention what prevents Syaoran loses his love for Sakura when The Nothing card is sealed.

The Nothing is introduced in the second film ''[[Anime/CardCaptorSakuraMovie2TheSealedCard The Sealed Card]]''. Created by Clow Reed as a negative counterbalance to the positive magic of the other cards, the Nothing was kept separated from the others beneath Clow's mansion. She is freed after the mansion is demolished, and begins stealing the cards to reunite with her friends.
----
* AmusementParkOfDoom: Her hideout, the new amusement park built where Clow's mansion was, becomes quite scary when things start vanishing.
* AntiVillain: The Woobie variation. Despite all the destruction she causes, it's very hard not to sympathize with her because her own creator sealed her in a dark place for centuries and she antagonizes Sakura because she wants to take the other Cards from her so she isn't alone anymore.
* BeingEvilSucks: Her rampage only leads the other cards to reject her. Instead they and Sakura offer her a HeelFaceTurn.
* DarkIsEvil: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. She acts as the negative counterbalance to the positive magic of the Clow Cards and even though her actions are destructive, she's just lonely and sad instead of evil.
* DarkMagicalGirl: She's driven to escape years of loneliness and being trapped in darkness with no friends. She seems to see Sakura as evil for "stealing" her friends, destroying her town and erasing her loved ones in an angered, desperate frenzy to claim them back. She screams and cries in utter ''terror'' whenever it looks like she'll be sealed again. After Sakura makes it clear that she wants to be Void's friend, and the other cards echo this sentiment, she {{Heel Face Turn}}s and joins them as The Hope.
* ElementNumberFive: She represents aether as opposed to the four elementals, but actually has the combined magical power of all the other Clow Cards behind.
* HeelRealization: After the other cards reject her for her harsh actions and trying to force them away from their master, she breaks down in tears from despair. It is this that leads Sakura to take pity on her.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: She has sealed all alone for a long time and steals the Sakura Cards because she just wants the other cards to be her friends. When Sakura says that she can be their friend, she allows herself to be sealed.
* LonelyAtTheTop: She was a super powerful card, but her powers were so huge and dangerous that no one could approach her.
* MercurysWings: She has a pair of wings on her head.
* PowerAtAPrice: {{Subverted|Trope}}. To seal her immense energy, Sakura is told she must give up her feelings for the person she loves the most. Syaoran sacrifices himself to seal the card, but then the Nothing herself averts the price by fusing with the nameless card, becoming the Hope Card.
* PowerOfTheVoid: She has the power of erasing anything from existence. When she's re-sealed, everything and everyone she made disappear comes back.
* SealedEvilInACan: Trapped in her card form beneath Clow's mansion for years, but freed with its demolition.
* SphereOfDestruction: She can create spheres that destroy anything and anyone they touch.
* TheUnfettered: The Nothing is out and out vehement on rejoining with all her fellow "friends", the other Clow Cards, and doesn't so much as flinch to ''erase an entire town's populace'' in her frenzied search. It is only when she realises such actions mean the cards won't accept her that she begins to doubt her methods.
-->'''The Nothing''': [[PreMortemOneLiner Don't get in my way...]]
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Sakura's final obstacle, the most powerful and dangerous of the cards, and the nearest to a genuinely malicious threat in the series ([[HeelFaceTurn if still ultimately redeemed]]). She temporarily ''kills'' most of the cast.
* VillainousBreakdown: Tears and trembling follow her rejection by the other cards.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Being buried under Eriol's old home without her fellow Cards near has completely shattered her mind, and the only thing she wants is being with them again. Problem is, the methods she'll use are ''destroying'' everything around her.

->''Seasons change just like the passing of Time. We all have our destinies and then we must move on. That’s the way it has always been...''

Creator of the Clow Cards, Kero and Yue, Clow Reed died before the manga and anime. A powerful sorcerer in his own right, he is reincarnated as Eriol.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: His hair's supposed to be black/dark gray, but is made dark blue in the anime.
* TheArchmage: Stated to be the most powerful sorcerer of all time as a result of being born from the union of two powerful magical families, one from England and the other from China. A deconstructed example, as his powers were so great that he couldn't even do magic in small scales, and he accidentally unbalanced the entire universe. Due to this, he decided to create the Clow Cards (which have a set power to their effects) with the intent of someone inheriting his magic and returning balance to the universe.
* BlessedWithSuck: Incredibly, phenomenally powerful magic... which led him to be constantly aware of the future. (And that's just in CCS. Check ''{{Manga/XxxHolic}}'' for what he does by accident). According to Eriol in the manga, the reason he split his reincarnation in two was because he no longer wanted to be the most powerful magician in the world anymore.
* ButNotTooForeign: Half-British and half-Chinese. This influenced the way he developed his magic, since he combined elements of Eastern and Western magic to create the Cards.
* TheChessmaster: ''Cardcaptor Sakura'' shows a small part of his planning skills, which were extremely thorough and well-prepared for future events.
* TheChooserOfTheOne: He personally chose Sakura to be his heir.
* DissonantSerenity: Appears calm and serene, emotionlessly excepting for his eternal smile, at all times.
* EccentricMentor: Sakura finds him a bit of an odd mentor when learning of his plan. Kero agrees.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Most of the time, anyway.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: It is implied he thought of his immense power as BlessedWithSuck to some degree, even before his belief showed by itself in the events of ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle''. In the manga, the part of him that wanted to have a normal life and a family [[spoiler: got reincarnated into Fujitaka]].
* InHarmonyWithNature: He's shown to have a deep conection with the natural forces, most likely as a result of being such a powerful mage (or even the reason why he is one in the first place). His understanding of the cycle of the seasons and the flow of life migh have played a role in his decision to die and split his power.
* LargeAndInCharge: Although his exact stature is hard to measure, Clow is clearly very tall (as shown in artwork, he is at least as tall as [[Manga/XxxHolic Yuuko Ichihara]], who is a StatuesqueStunner in her own right), and is symbolically in charge of many events in this and other series.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Retains the looks of one even if he's definitely no boy anymore.
* MerlinAndNimue: With The Enchantress in the dubbed version of the movie, as two wizards of opposite genders with a TeacherStudentRomance that led to a falling out.
* MundaneUtility: According to Kero, Clow often created cards either for his amusement or to make his chores easier. Bubbles was made to do laundry and ''give Big Kero his baths''!
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: A completely heroic version; his death was the beginning of a plan that would end with all his creations happy and able to continue existing.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** Creating well-intentioned spirits that are so difficult to control that they need to be sealed away lest they cause trouble for everyone.
** In the first movie English dub, sealing his ex-girlfriend The Enchantress in an alternate dimension to stew for God-knows-how-long because she was practicing dark magic.
** Him sealing the Nothing Card . While she might be be as strong as the other cards combined and her powers destructive in nature, him sealing her in a dark place broke her mind and turned her into a WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds. Not to mention that he never told neither Kero nor Yue about her, which could have avoided everything bad that happened on the second movie.
** His wish for someone to come back to life ends up breaking the universe in ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'' and ''Manga/XxxHolic''.
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Played with. It's clear that he doesn't see himself this way, but other characters have to go through a lot of events to discover his goals, actions and finally consequences.
* PerpetualSmiler: The guy just looks perennially happy, and even his comparatively darkest emotions are expressed through melancholic variations of his signature smile. In fact, it is incredibly rare the scene, appearance or official artwork of him in which he is not smiling.
* PhenotypeStereotype: Inverted. He is a half European and a half Asian, but his physical appearance (dark hair, pale skin and usually closed eyes) makes him look, if anything, much more Asian than the full-blooded Asian characters who compose the main cast.
* PosthumousCharacter: Inevitable, as he's long dead when the series starts.
* PowerIncontinence:
** The reason he wanted to split his powers between two people. He was powerful enough to predict the future, but he couldn't turn the ability off and it began to feel like a painful burden to constantly know what was to come.
** He accidentally brought someone back to life just by thinking to himself that he wished the person would open her eyes again. It was ''this'' incident that triggered the universe warping and MindScrew inducing events of both ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'' and ''Manga/XxxHolic'' which ''Manga/CardCaptorSakura'' serves as a sort of prequel to.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Dark hair and alabaster skin for a gentleman mage.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Or several centuries old, at least, yet he still looks barely middle-aged.
* TheRedMage: He's one of the most powerful mages in the world because he combines both Western and Eastern magic, each inherited from a parent.
* {{Reincarnation}}: Reincarnates as Eriol and, in the manga, also [[spoiler: Fujitaka.]]
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He checks more or less the three points: seems significantly tall, has dark hair and a solemn figure, and is quite attractive.
* TeacherStudentRomance: Was in a relationship with his student, The Enchantress in the English dub, until she dabbled in the Dark Arts.
* TricksterMentor: He is very wise, but also has somewhat of a shade of trickster.
* YinYangBomb: His magic combines Western Sun magic and Eastern Moon magic. It is not however a perfect balance, as shown by his magical seal which shows a large sun in the center with a smaller moon in the corner.

[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yue_clear_card.jpg]]

The second guardian of the Clow Cards assigned to appoint the next owner of the cards. He becomes an ally to Sakura after she passes the Final Judgement.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Yue's uniform is entirely made up of shades of blue and white in the anime, but in the original manga it also had some yellow, and the gems on his wrists and feet were amber.
* BodyguardCrush: Yue's role is that of a guardian, and it's heavily implied that Yue had feelings for Clow Reed which plays a part in why Yue has such a difficult time letting go and moving on to a new master.
* CantLiveWithoutYou: As Yue represents the moon, his powers mimic the way the moon reacts to light. The moon cannot make its own light, and is dependent on the light of the sun to glow, just as Yue is dependent on his Master's power for strength. Unfortunately, Sakura is weaker than Clow Reed at the time, so her magic is unable to sustain Yue's power and existence.
* TheComicallySerious: His serious demeanour sometimes contributes to the comedy, such as Episode 58. Also, why does he agree to Tomoyo staging a dynamic fight scene in the opening to the send movie?
* DefrostingIceKing: When he's first introduced he's very distant, and even cruel. Then Sakura gets to him over time like everyone else and he becomes quite gentle around her.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: He based his entire trial for testing the new master of the Clow Cards on how well they knew the alignments of each card (since he can control any card under his alingment), rejecting those who didn't share the same level of knowledge as Clow Reed. It never occurred to him until Sakura beat him that anyone in Clow Reed's league would have the capability to override his control of any card under his alignment and use that card against him.
* HellishPupils: Has very unhuman-like slanted pupils to indicate his otherworldly nature.
* IcyBlueEyes: Has silver-blue eyes and was quite aloof before defrosting.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's very difficult at first, but he tries not to tax Sakura's capabilities and doesn't ever blame or trouble her for not being powerful enough to sustain his existence. He's also considerate of Yukito's wishes, even though Yukito initially isn't aware he exists. He tells Touya that Yukito wouldn't have wanted him to know he wasn't human, and that was why he never revealed himself.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Very long hair (to the point it partly drags on the ground) and is noted to be very beautiful by other characters; he suits the image of the moon very well.
* {{Lunacy}}: Associated with the moon but he is not crazy. On the contrary, he's always serious.
* MagicalBarefooter: He is literally a magical being, and his attire only has toeless, heelless foot guards.
* MoralityPet: It's made clear that most of his iciness stems from how much he loved and misses Clow Reed. He also respects Yukito's autonomy; Yukito wouldn't have wanted Touya to know he wasn't human, so Yue doesn't reveal his existence to Touya until Touya tells him directly that he's already aware and the point is moot. And, eventually, he grows to love Sakura and Kerberos says that he can get a little worked up where she's involved.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Silvery white hair to go with his incredible magical power.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: It's subtle, but Yue seems to have a propensity for reaching out and touching someone's face, when he's talking to them. Especially Sakura.
* NotSoStoic: He crosses his arms and teases Touya, briefly, about his surrender of his magic being conditional on Yue's promise to protect Sakura. He was also ''extremely'' animated in protesting Clow Reed's death when Sakura uses the Return card to visit the past. He also flips when he briefly recognizes Eriol as Clow, acting rather reckless considering the situation. In ''Clear Card'', Eriol and Kerberos agree that Kerberos has a much better poker face than Yue, and Yue proves it by getting annoyed. Ultimately this ties to his moon theme: underneath his stoic exterior, he's very emotional.
* OccultBlueEyes: Silver-blue eyes to go with his incredible magical power and {{lunacy}}.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He is essentially an artificial angel, being a winged, white-colored humanoid associated to a certain law and order.
* PersonalityPowers: Associated with the moon, and is distant, aloof, and a raging DefrostingIceKing.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: As one of Clow Reed's creations, he's significantly old. However, he looks like he's in his early 20's.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** The cold, introspective, and totally dispassionate Blue Oni to fellow guardian Kero's outgoing, emotional and hot-blooded Red Oni.
** Also the Blue Oni to his counterpart Ruby Moon's more open and cheerful Red Oni.
* SecretlyDying: He and Cerberus do everything they can to keep Sakura from finding out that Yue is fading away because her magic isn't strong enough to sustain him.
* ShipperOnDeck: In the manga, he seems exasperated by how Yukito hasn't realized his feelings for Touya just yet, and ends up spelling it out very clearly when he finally speaks to Touya himself. He goes out of his way to clarify for Syaoran that his crush on Yukito is mostly just attraction to his moon magic, and that if he thinks about it, he'll realize who he really likes. Later, once Sakura also has become aware of her feelings for Syaoran, Yue is also very supportive of her and talks her through her insecurities.
* SolarAndLunar: He's associated with the moon, Kero with the sun.
* StationaryWings: Like Kero, he'll sometimes flap his wings when taking off, but his wings never actually move once he's in the air.
* StellarName: Yue is Mandarin Chinese for 'moon.'
* SugarAndIcePersonality: He's aloof, cold and distant, but he has a notable soft spot for his former master Clow and he later becomes fond of Sakura. In fact, he ultimately only lets out the ice to those he doesn't know well; as he gets to know someone, the sugar comes out frequently in subtle ways.
* SuperPoweredAlterEgo: Yue is a magic-using WingedHumanoid, while Yukito is his "false form" created for Yue to hide in while waiting for the Final Judgment. Besides that, Yukito is a normal teenage boy who is initially unaware of his superpowered true form.
* {{Tsundere}}: A rare, stoic example of this, but Yue has a noticeably ''difficult'' time admitting he's grown to care for Sakura. Both Eriol and even ''Yukito himself'' eventually take note of this.
-->'''Yue''': ...I don't hate her.\\
'''Eriol''': Coming from you, doesn't that mean you like her very much?
* TsurimeEyes: In contrast to Yukito's TaremeEyes, his eyes are narrow and pointed to show his aloof and ruthless personality.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Clow Reed. Eventually Sakura too, when she finally wins him over.
* WalkingSpoiler: Knowing too much about him reveals that he's Yukito's "true form".
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Initially he comes off this way. He mellows out as time goes on, though he remains aloof.
* WingedHumanoid: Yue has a rather prominent pair of white feathered wings.
* WouldHitAGirl: Yue does not hold back in the slightest when he fights Sakura in the Final Judgment, since he's testing her to see if she's worthy of being his new master.

One of Eriol's two minions, if you want to call them that. A hyperactive but manipulative GenkiGirl, as Nakuru she has apparent affections for Toya. In her true form Ruby Moon she can fly and has similar powers to Yue.
----
* TheAce: Like Yukito, Ruby is ''also'' ridiculously good at sports and ''also'' refuses to join any team. Must be a magical-guardian-affiliated-with-the-moon trait.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Nakuru's hair goes from light auburn in the manga to dark brown in the anime. Likewise, Ruby Moon's color scheme changes from red and black to pink and indigo.
* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: Nakuru presents "herself" as female because girl's clothes are cuter, but she's technically genderless and she also admits gender identity doesn't really matter to her, so she could be considered gender fluid.
-->'''Nakuru''': "I look good in a skirt! (...) Well, it's not like gender really matters... I'm not a human being anyway..."
* BerserkButton: She doesn't like it when Spinel calls her a cross-dresser.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She's overly clingy towards Touya, especially when he's with Yukito; it turns out to be not related to love, but rather she's actually after his magic. She lays off once it's clear that Touya will give his powers to Yue and not to her.
* CloudCuckooLander: The stuff she says doesn't make much sense.
* DubNameChange: In the English adaptation, both her true form and false form go under the name of Ruby Moon.
* EvilCounterpart: Deliberately so, she is this to Yue, being a similar winged humanoid yet having a darker, more artistique appearance and a more devious personality.
* GenkiGirl: Very energetic, and to Touya's dismay, it is all directed at him.
* HairIntakes: The two intakes in her hair that look like cat ears.
* HumanDisguise: Like Yue, Ruby Moon can change into a false human form, in which she goes by the name Nakuru Akizuki. Unlike Yue and Yukito, Ruby Moon and Nakuru Akizuki share the same mind and memories.
* {{Kawaiiko}}: Just look at her dialogue with Spinel.
--> '''Spinel''': I think you should help out with the household chores as well...\\
'''Ruby''': Oh, I'm all right...because I'm cute!
* LifeDrinker: Is after Touya's magical energy and the lack of it affects his vitality.
* {{Lunacy}}: Like Yue, Ruby Moon is associated with the moon.
* MomentKiller: Repeatedly and deliberately, to the point where Touya has to physically lock her out of the room in order to finally get some alone time with Yukito.
* NewTransferStudent: She transfers to Touya and Yukito's high school in the second half of the series.
* NoBiologicalSex: Nakuru is technically genderless, but chooses to present "herself" as female simply because girls have cuter school uniforms and clothes.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Constantly {{Glomp}}ing Touya and loves hugging Sakura too. In ''Clear Card,'' she's constantly touching Yukito, too, whether it's hugs or just hands on his shoulders.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She has everyone fooled into thinking she's a ditzy {{muggle}}. Then there's her sabotage of Touya's relationship with Yukito and how she's quite smarter than she makes herself look like...
* PassionateSportsGirl: She's very athletic, and good at both basketball and rollerblade skating.
* PowerStereotypeFlip: For a moon magic guardian, she's very upbeat and cheerful. Justified as she was designed as Yue's counterpart.
* PurelyAestheticGender: Technically Ruby is neither male nor female, but chooses to present as female because she likes girls' clothes.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** The more expressive and outgoing Red Oni to her fellow guardian Spinel's quiet and calm Blue Oni.
** Also the more open and cheerful Red Oni to her counterpart Yue's cold and serious Blue Oni.
* RelationshipSabotage: Frequently butts in between Touya and Yukito, as she has her eyes on Touya's powers and has a near-murderous rivalry with Yue. Backs off pretty quickly when it's clear that she ain't getting it, though.
* RoseHairedSweetie: She's always perky and playful. Coincidentally, her true form has rosy hair.
* SecretPublicIdentity: [[DubNameChange In the Nelvana dub only]], where she goes by "Ruby Moon" in both forms.
* SolarAndLunar: She represents the moon, Spinel Sun represents the sun.
* SweetTooth: ''Adores'' sweet foods of all kinds.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Sorta. She is perhaps the nearest to being genuinely antagonistic out of Eriol's posse. Is intentionally interfering with Touya and Yukito so the former can't save the latter as his magic fades. In a sense she is attempting to ensure Yue fades and dies (the creepy smirk she frequently gives Yukito as she plays it out doesn't help). When she realises it is futile, however, she gives in quickly and limits herself to aiding Eriol in his plans.
* WingedHumanoid: Large butterfly wings in her true form.

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spinel_sun.png]]

The second of Eriol's minions, and a counterpart to Kero. Essentially TheEeyore, Spinel is quiet and calm but can go hyperactive when he eats sweets. His true form is a butterfly-winged panther who has powers similar to Keroberos.
----
* AccidentalMisnaming: Nakuru repeatedly calls him "Suppi," much to his annoyance.
--> "Who are you calling Suppi?!"
* AdaptationalComicRelief: His interactions with Kero and his allergy to sweets are exclusive to the anime. In the manga, he never interacts with Kero and his personality is simply a more serious foil to the latter.
* BerserkButton: Sugar, though not berserk in an ''angry'' way, quite the opposite.
* CatsAreSnarky: Lots of clever remarks in his smaller form.
* CuteKitten: His temporary form is a plushie like Kero.
* CulturedBadass: He's a cultured, snarky, polite (unless "drunk") magical being... who can also turn into a huge panther with fairy wings and shoot laser beams from his mouth.
* DubNameChange:
** To "Spinner Sun". It could count as a case of InconsistentSpelling, if it wasn't for the RockThemeNaming with "Spinel" and "Ruby".
** His nickname is changed from "Suppi" to "Spick" in Spain.
* TheEeyore: Stoic and humorless in personality, in contrast to hyperactive and cheerful Nakuru. However, in the anime he becomes a hyperactive glutton [[GRatedDrug whenever he tastes sugar]].
* EvilCounterpart: He is meant to be this to Kero, with a darker design and personality in all senses, although unlike Ruby Moon, who ''is'' malicious to a point, Spinel Sun is more grounded and not that evil.
* GRatedDrug: In the anime, sugar has the drastic effect of turning him into a hyperactive glutton whenever he tastes it.
* IntoxicationEnsues: Give Suppi even a taste of sugar, and he instantly transforms into a childish, hyperactive, sugar-seeking fiend who gleefully gobbles up every ounce of sweets in his sight and shoots [[BreathWeapon laser beams from his mouth]] at the drop of a hat.
* InUniverseNickname: Suppi.
* MascotsLoveSugar: Spinel enjoys sweet things, but only after eating them when he is put in a state of alcohol-free drunkenness.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He usually refuses to partake in Kero's CloudCuckooLander's antics, ''usually''. The post-credits segment from the 2nd movie has him chasing a fried octopus ball even before he gets "drunk" with sweets, and the ''Clear Card'' arc reveals he's been playing online multiplayer games with Kero.
* PantheraAwesome: His ''actual'' form is a giant fairy-winged panther.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: Has sun-power, just like Kero.
* PowerStereotypeFlip: Suppi comes off as very apathetic and stoic for a solar magic guardian.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** The quiet and calm Blue Oni to Ruby Moon's more expressive and outgoing Red Oni.
** Also the stoic and dispassionate Blue Oni to Kero's emotional and passionate Red Oni.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: In his sleep mode he takes the form of a CuteKitten who looks like a plush toy.
* ShesAManInJapan: Spinel is male in the original, but the European Spanish dub gives him a more distinctly womanly voice and has Nakuru using female pronouns with him, probably on the assumption that, just like Ruby Moon is a DistaffCounterpart to Yue, Spinel Sun must be also female to contrast with the male Kero. His panther form retains a more neutral voice, though, maybe reflecting that, again like Ruby Moon, Spinel is actually a genderless being posing as female.
* SleepModeSize: Just like Kero. He spends most of his time in the form of a super-cutsie black cat with wings. Logically, when it's time to get serious he takes his actual form -- a really cool winged panther.
* SolarAndLunar: He represents the sun, Ruby Moon represents the moon.
* SweetTooth: He loves sweets as much as Kero but he avoids it at all costs for ''good reason''. See IntoxicationEnsues.
* TheStoic: His default personality is pretty calm and non-expressive. He becomes NotSoStoic when he eats sugar.

[[quoteright:205:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaho_mizuki_clear_card_arc_5.png]]

A mysterious but CoolTeacher who starts teaching at Sakura's school, but is actually a powerful magician of some kind.
----
* BackForTheFinale: She spends most of the final arc part away in England, but comes back at the end.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Just a hunch".
* CharacterExaggeration: In the manga, despite being presented as a mysterious, mature and nice lady whose presence flusters Sakura and makes Syaoran suspicious, she can also be quite clumsy, cheerful and as Eriol and the [[AllThereInTheManual manuals pointed out]], forgets about streets and tends to get lost a lot of times. The anime puts more emphasis on her mature and mysterious facade instead, probably to [[RedHerring trick the audience]] into believing she's an enemy.
* CoolBigSis: She's a good older sister figure (moreso in the manga, where she's more cheerful and spacy). She's even this to her ''old flame Touya'', especially when it comes to [[ShipperOnDeck his relationship with Yukito]].
* CoolTeacher: Most of the students apart from Syaoran seem to think she's an awesome teacher.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, she becomes Layla [=McKenzie=].
* ForgetfulJones: In the manga, it turns out Kaho has a terrible memory problem, particularly with directions and streets.
* HotTeacher: Even her fourth grader students (except Syaoran) think she is quite a pretty lady to the point that [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer Sakura has the same feeling of fluster as whenever she meets Yukito]].
* {{Lunacy}}: Like Yue and Syaoran, she is aligned with the moon.
* {{Miko}}: The Mizuki family owns the local Shinto shrine, and as the only daughter she's sometimes seen doing miko work.
* NoSenseOfDirection: In the manga, Eriol says Kaho tends to forget about street names and gets lost a lot.
* PutOnABus: She leaves the main setting twice; once in Touya's backstory, and again after the first arc. Both times she goes to England to study and meet up with Eriol.
* RedHerring: Both out and in-universe.
** Out of the story, her mysterious nature and interactions at first seem to imply she has a hidden agenda about Sakura and co., an impression increased by the second opening sequence showing her face in shadows. It turns out correct, only she is not a villain -- she was sent out to ''help'' Sakura.
** In story, before the Final Judgment, Kero is under the impression she's Yue's false form. Not helped by the fact that when he lays out his suspicions to her, she speaks in vague terms that neither confirm nor deny it.
* ShipperOnDeck: She knew that Touya would love somewhere else (Yukito) prior to her leaving, and supports it wholeheartedly even in the present.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: In the anime, she's always very sweet and gentle but more aloof and shady.
* TeacherStudentRomance: Downplayed. She and Touya were acquainted with each other while she was his student teacher, and the two began a relationship right after she finished teaching him.
* TwoFirstNames: Her family name Mizuki can also be used as a feminine given name in Japan.
* YamatoNadeshiko: In the anime, since she's more serious and focused than in the manga, she comes off as kind and sweet but also kinda secretive. She also gets some scenes as a shrine maiden.

!!!'''Voiced by''': Music/MegumiHayashibara (JP), Creator/NicoleOliver (EN)[[labelnote: Foreign [=VAs=]]]Aurora García (SP), Creator/BarbaraDeBortoli (ITA), Claudia Urbschat-Mingues (GER)[[/labelnote]]
[[quoteright:183:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madoushi_cardcaptor_sakura.jpg]]

The BigBad of the first movie. An extremely powerful Chinese sorceress, the Enchantress (also called Madoushi or Su Yung in the dub) used to be a fortune teller in Hong Kong until her business was destroyed by Clow Reed's arrival, making her despise him deeply and preventing her spirit from moving on after her death. In the English dub, she was Clow Reed's lover for a time but when she began abusing her magic, they battled, forcing Clow to imprison her within another dimension. Centuries on, she seeks freedom and lures Sakura to Hong Kong, mistaking her magical aura for Clow's.
----
* BigBad: She is the villain in the first movie.
* DarkMagicalGirl: The contrast with Sakura, the MagicalGirl, is revealed over the course of the movie. She was once a good-heartened fortune teller, and turned sour after Clow indirectly drove her business to ruins. As stated in the trope above, after fighting the MagicalGirl and losing, she has a HeelFaceTurn and passes on in peace.
* EvilIsHammy: Creator/NicoleOliver does a great job of showing the Enchantress' rage (e.g. "I will have my revenge!")
* EvilIsPetty: Only in the original Japanese, where she wanted revenge on Clow Reed for unintentionally wrecking her fortune telling business. Her motivation in the English dub is slightly more understandable.
* FacialMarkings: Has several on her forehead, likely magical in nature.
* FeatheredFiend: Her two magic birds are dangerous.
* FortuneTeller: Her original occupation was reading people's futures using water magic.
* IWillWaitForYou: She waited for Clow Reed, either to have her revenge or admit her feelings for him, unaware he had died. She is deeply shocked when Sakura reveals the truth to her.
* LadyOfBlackMagic: A vengeful, ''very'' powerful Chinese sorceress in a flowing dress.
* MadnessMantra: "Where is Clow Reed?"
* MagicalFloatingShawl: She's the ghost of a powerful sorceress from three hundred years ago. She appears as a woman wearing a Chinese dress with a flowing stole that floats around her, can be manipulated at will to bind her enemies and be transformed into a pair of silver birds.
* MakingASplash: Her signature power is water magic, able to summon giant typhoons or flood an entire building from the inside out. Appropriate since she is trapped in a dimension filled with water.
* MasterOfThreads: She has a pair of long flowing ribbons which can be used as weapons.
* MeaningfulName: Though no hanzi are given for Su Yung, the name corresponds to 蘇永, with 永 (Yung) meaning "Eternal".
* MerlinAndNimue: With Clow Reed in the dubbed version of the movie, as two wizards of opposite genders with a TeacherStudentRomance that led to a falling out.
* NoNameGiven: Mahoudoushi only means "Enchantress". In the dub, she is called Su Yung.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: Being SealedEvilInACan for centuries would do that to anyone really, but she didn't have to attack people unrelated. Note that this is not the case in Japanese, in which while she ''did'' harbor feelings for Clow Reed, she never got to admit them.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Very angry and bitter at Clow for either imprisoning her (English) or ruining her fortune-telling business (Japanese), and will attack anyone who crosses her. She flips out when she realises she summoned Sakura rather than Clow.
* SealedEvilInACan: Trapped in another dimension by her hatred of Clow Reed. She longs to break free from the strange prison which resembles a partially collapsed, submerged temple. It is possible she trashed it trying to get out. Two entrances to the dimension include an old well and a book.
* TeacherStudentRomance: In the English dub, she both learned magic from and fell in love with Clow Reed.
* {{Tsundere}}: Can't decide whether to hate Clow Reed or hold onto her love for him. It's a complicated relationship.
* UnfinishedBusiness: Hated Clow so much, it prevented from moving on after death. ''Finally'' responds and moves onto the afterlife after a speech from Sakura.
* WaterIsWomanly: An elegant, powerful sorceress with vast power over water, able to create impenetrable spheres and floods.
* {{Yandere}}: She has been waiting centuries to see Clow again and she will do anything to find him, even attack Sakura and her friends because she can feel Clow's magic in her cards.

[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonomi_daidouji_cardcaptor_sakura_clear_card_276.jpg]]

Neé Amamiya. She is Tomoyo's mother and Nadeshiko's best friend and cousin. She resents Fujitaka from marrying Nadeshiko at such a young age but is thrilled to be in Sakura's company.
----
* AlwaysSecondBest: Her feelings for Nadeshiko have led to a fierce if one sided rivalry with Fujitaka. Unfortunately for her she's never been able to defeat Fujitaka in any kind of contest, barring one moment in the second movie.
* AmbiguouslyBi: She was in love with Nadeshiko, although ultimately married a man surnamed Daidouji and nothing indicates she doesn't have a happy marriage. However, this is pure speculation, as the circumstances surrounding her husband have never been explained; it's even unclear whether she is still married at this point.
* BigFancyHouse: Her house is about as big as a park.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She was in love with Nadeshiko since Kindergarten.
* DubNameChange: In the English dub, she becomes Samantha Taylor.
* GoodParents: Whatever her secret to parenting is, ''IT WORKS''. She spoils Tomoyo like there's no tomorrow and gives her anything she wants, plus more space and privacy than any parent would dare. Yet, Tomoyo is completely respectful and giving to everyone she knows and is the most caring and selfless person one could ever meet. Sonomi may be super busy, but she is definitely doing something right.
* HerHeartWillGoOn: Sonomi is a [[ZigZaggedTrope zigzagged]] case of this. While Nadeshiko never loved her the same way and later died, Sonomi has gone on to live a good life by any conventional standards, being the CEO of a successful toy company and having a wonderful daughter in Tomoyo. At the same time, she still loves Nadeshiko which has influenced her behavior in significant yet innocuous ways (She made Tomoyo grow out her hair to look more like Nadeshiko, resents Fujitaka despite admitting how good of a man he is almost solely by merit of her unrequited feelings for Nadeshiko, and dotes of Sakura like her own daughter while noting how much she resembles her mother).
* HopelessSuitor: Nadeshiko never returned Sonomi's romantic feelings. Even if she haven't fallen in love with Fujitaka, Nadeshiko only could think of Sonomi as family.
* IncompatibleOrientation: Romantically loved Nadeshiko, who cared lots of her but simply couldn't think of her that way in return.
* KissingCousins: Nadeshiko was her cousin and Sonomi has never stopped loving her.
* LesbianJock: Or lesbian bi, as said above. Anyway, she used to be active in sports when in school and boasts of her achievements.
* LipstickLesbian: Like mother, like daughter; a feminine woman in love with her female cousin.
* LikeADaughterToMe: She adores Sakura like she was her own daughter.
* TheMourningAfter: Like Fujitaka, she clearly hasn't gotten over Nadeshiko's death.
* {{Ojou}}: An atypical case, in that she's the current head of the FamilyBusiness instead of just a female relative of the owner.
* ParentsAsPeople: Even busier than Fujitaka, and always feels bad since she's unable to be with Tomoyo as much as she wants. Specially showcased when Tomoyo completely loses her voice (unbeknownst to Sonomi, as the effect of a Clow Card); believing her to be suddenly ill, Sonomi barges into her room once she comes back from work and fusses over her while apologising for being late, then cuddles Tomoyo sweetly.
* PiningAfterProtagonistsParent: She was deeply in love with Sakura's mother, Nadeshiko. Nadeshiko didn't return her feeling and married their teacher Fujitaka. Sonomi does adore Sakura like a daughter, but she hasn't let go of her resentment towards Sakura's father yet.
* RichBitch: Zigzagged. She despises how Nadeshiko lived an unwealthy life, but this has more to do with the fact she lived an unwealthy life with another person.
* TheResenter: To Fujitaka for "taking Nadeshiko away from her" and giving her the happiest years of her life. At some point she even subtly implies that he didn't take enough care of Nadeshiko during her fatal illness, but when Fujitaka sadly and calmly says otherwise she drops it quickly. She also wouldn't really badmouth Fujitaka before Sakura and admitted what a wonderful man he was even back then, being everything a woman could dream about in a man.
* SingleTargetSexuality: She married a man, whom she presumably loves or loved, but he never appears onscreen and their relationship is not given a tiny bit of exploration compared to her perpetual, furious, extroverted love for Nadeshiko, which is clearly shown she never quite got over. Tomoyo even comments once that Sonomi chose her hairstyle to look like Nadeshiko's, although this comes with the caveat that she had to ''give birth'' to Tomoyo somehow.
* UnrequitedLoveLastsForever: Even though Nadeshiko never returned her feelings and married Fujitaka, during the series Sonomi is still very much in love with Nadeshiko.

The on-and-off teacher of Sakura's class. Rika has a crush on him which he seems to acknowledge to different degrees depending in the media.
----
* AdaptationalRomanceDowngrade: In the manga, not only is Terada fully aware of Rika's romantic affections for him, he reciprocates and has promised to marry her when she's of age. Due to the creepy factor of the major AgeGapRomance between an adult teacher and his elementary school student, the anime heavily downplays the relationship and turns it into a one-sided PrecociousCrush on Rika's part, while Terada is made ObliviousToLove.
* AgeGapRomance: He's a man in his thirties while Rika is his elementary school student. In the manga, he asks her to marry him when she comes of age and she accepts.
* TheJailBaitWait: In the manga, he likes Rika back, but he's waiting until she's legal to marry her.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: There's nothing noteworthy about him other than being the handsome teacher Sakura's friend Rika has a crush on. Even more so in the manga where all his appearances in which he isn't working as a teacher are about his mutual TeacherStudentRomance with Rika.
* SharpDressedMan: Rarely seen without a suit, which is justified since he is a teacher.
* TeacherStudentRomance: In a relationship with Rika, who is still his student, in the manga.

* AlmightyMom: Yesh. Syaoran is really scared of her, and her very energetic teen daughters all settle down (even if not completely) when she's around.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Has RavenHairIvorySkin, and is the cold, perfectionist matriarch of the Li clan admired by her own daughters.
* TheBeautifulElite: An elegant and sophisticated head of her clan.
* BigFancyHouse: The Li main house is a classical Chinese family home. It is especially impressive considering that the Lis are from the ''infamously'' crammed UsefulNotes/HongKong.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Despite her coldness, she warms up to Sakura, even giving her a maternal peck on the cheek.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: She's very, very pretty, but also looks and acts extremely cold.
* EducationMama: Syaoran is nervous about showing her his grades, even though they are very good grades.
* TheMourningAfter: She never got involved with any other guys after the death of her husband. Possibly justified since she ''is'' a powerful psychic; she can probably see his ghost.
* {{Mukokuseki}}: Averted here. Her kids clearly take after their father and play this trope straight, while Yelan is more obviously Asian in appearance.
* MumLooksLikeASister: She's had ''five'' kids and she still looks almost as young as her daughters! (Then again, the girls are implied to be quadruplets).
* {{Ojou}}: Of the IceQueen variety, as she's very cold and strict on the outside.
* OlderThanSheLooks: Is most likely in her mid to late 30's or even early 40's, but looks like she's in her mid to late 20's.
* ParentsAsPeople: She loves Syaoran, but puts a lot of pressure on him. In the manga [[MinorLivingAlone she lets him live alone]], though at least it's in a safe town like [[SugarBowl Tomoeda]].
* RavenHairIvorySkin: She's dark-haired and pale-skinned. On top of that, when she first saw her, Sakura's first thought was on how beautiful she was.
* RichBitch: She isn't overtly ''mean'', but is rather cold.
* {{Seers}}: The Clear Card Arc reveals that she's a powerful seer that can predict the future.
* TheStoic: She's very calm and doesn't show strong emotions in her face.

* CoolBigSis: The four girls are pretty sweert and cute, and are super thrilled to meet Sakura and the rest of the cast.

* {{Fiery Redhead}}s: Though not so much in a "raging" fiery sort of way as an "energetic" fiery sort of way.
* MuggleBornOfMages: Despite being born to one of the most influential magic families in Asia, none of them have magic.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Once they like a person, they'll cling to him or her and not let go.
* OddNameOut: Fuutie, Fanren, Feimei, and... Xiefa.
* {{Ojou}}s: All of the girls fit into the NiceGirl subtrope, as they're sweet and cheery all the time.

%% * SpoiledSweet: They're from a pretty loaded family, but are sweetiepies themselves. If a little too energetic sometimes.

----

The Silent merged with the painting and accidentally covered a spot where he had snuck in an image of Yuuki herself, which mightily pissed her off as she mistakenly thought someone had messed with the canvas.
* DubNameChange: The Nelvana dub calls her Alex Mills.

One of Touya and Yukito's highschool classmates, she has a huge crush on Touya. She is a member of the drama club, and sees the upcoming school play as the chance to tell him that she loves him. Then, the Mist Card starts messing around.
----
* {{Bifauxnen}}: She's got short hair and can play male roles pretty well.
* CrossCastRole: She plays the Prince in the SchoolPlay for "Literature/{{Cinderella}}".
* DestinationDefenestration: Subverted, she was about to fall off a balcony -- but said balcony was a part of the scenario, not an actual one.
* DistressBall: Poor Youko just ''had'' to be on stage with Touya right as the Mist starts dissolving and corrupting the stage itself...
* HopelessSuitor: Touya's since he's in love with someone else.

A cute little girl who takes Kero in (sorta) after he runs away from Sakura's home.
----
* DisappearedDad: Her father died a few years ago and she [[ChildrenAreInnocent doesn't really understand the implications]], still kinda believing he's gone far away. It backfires when Akane finds The Float and it begins to lift her up to the skies, trying to fulfill her wish to see him again.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: She can handle housework pretty well at kindergarten age, since her mother has to work long hours to support the two.
