!Ishiyama High School
The primary school setting of ''Manga/{{Beelzebub}}'', basically filled with a buttload of delinquents. In essence, it's the school that no parent in their right mind would ever send their kid to. EVER. Ruled over by the pseudo-Student Council Tohoshinki, the students of Ishiyama High get into a whole lot of trouble, all of the time.

[[folder:Ishiyama High as a whole]]
* AcademyOfAdventure: Both the first and last arcs of the manga take place at Ishiyama High.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Being delinquents in an environment where there are no rules, this trope is in full effect. [[spoiler:In fact, while previously all the students bowed down to Oga/The Tohoshinki, after being split up into smaller groups and sent to other schools for a while, nobody really recognizes the authority of Oga ''or'' The Tohoshinki because they've been out from under their rule for so long, forcing them to start the whole process of beating respect into one's enemies all over again.]]
* BookDumb: They "hate studying 180%!" Also when it comes to standardized tests, the smartest in the school is apparently ''Furuichi''. Note that these tests for were ''elementary school subjects''. [[BrilliantButLazy Though some of the smarter kids like Natsume and Himekawa didn't even bother trying.]]
* JapaneseDelinquents: Its delinquency level is 120%.
* {{Mooks}}: A lot of the guys Oga finds in his quest to be rid of Beel are generally this.
* [[TwoTeacherSchool No Teacher School]]: Understandably, there's not ONE to be found anywhere on the premises. The principal handles janitorial duties, as that's the only thing he could possibly have control over.
* OneGenderSchool: Ishiyama is thought to be this at first, until you meet [[AmazonBrigade Kunieda and her crew]]. However, the gender ratio is still way off, though for understandable reasons.
* SlobsVersusSnobs: Which ends up culminating in a most epic match of [[MundaneMadeAwesome volleyball]] between the Ishiyama High delinquents and the pristine elite of St. Ishiyama.

!!The Tōhōshinki

The four leaders of the delinquent forces at Ishiyama High. Tōhōshinki is an acronym of their respective last names; Hidetora Tojo, Aoi Kunieda, Hajime Kanzaki, and Tatsuya Himekawa.

They serve as the primary antagonists for the first part of the manga. Their conflict with Oga was caused by his quest to find someone even stronger and more evil than himself on whom he could force Beelzebub, which they took as him trying to usurp their power.

The Tōhōshinki aren't a coherent group but rather rivals who fought amongst themselves for domination of Ishiyama (except Tōjō who didn't much care about the whole thing and even had problems reorganizing the others). This comes to an end after Oga defeats them and briefly unifies the school under himself.

[[folder:The Tōhōshinki as a whole]]
* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: The Tohoshinki are ''technically'' this. Since this is basically a [[TwoTeacherSchool No Teacher School]] (with the exception of the principal, who mainly does the janitorial duties, and the lunch lady) that's ruled by the students, the Tohoshinki, being the strongest delinquents of the entire school, are the StudentCouncil. Since Oga defeated all of them, he's basically the StudentCouncilPresident, and by default, ruler of the school.
* AntiHeroTeam: While not as anti-heroic as Oga, the Tohoshinki still consists of morally grey delinquent [[JerkAss assholes]] who can be willing to [[BloodKnight pick fights for no real reason]]. Only exception to this is Kunienda who is TokenGoodTeamMate. With that said, Kanzaki and Himekawa both become [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold somewhat]] nicer through CharacterDevelopment while Tojo was already a JerkWithAHeartOfGold at worst even when first introduded.
* BadassCrew: Not just the Tōhōshinki, but also their respective followers,[[labelnote:*]]Natsume and Shiroyama under Kanzaki, the Red Tails under Aoi, Aizawa, and Jinno under Toujou[[/labelnote]] become this under Oga.
* BalanceOfPower: They're not the nicest of people, but after Oga starts beating them, lower-level delinquents who they previously held in check start getting out of hand.
** In fact, due to the fact that all of Ishiyama was spread around while it was being reconstructed (twice), the Tohoshinki and Oga were unable to keep them all in check, and now over ''thirty'' groups are vying for the top spot, and they plan on taking out the Tohoshinki and Oga first.
* TheDreaded: Even after their defeat at the hands of Oga, their reputations were enough to keep lower-level delinquents in line. The only reason why it doesn't affect the current Ishiyama is because the school has been spread out for so long; otherwise their reputations are enough to control anyone outside of Ishiyama High.
* EnemyMine --> FriendlyEnemy --> FireForgedFriends: [[spoiler:First, Kanzaki and Himekawa team up with Oga to take down Tojo, and after that all four have to team up with Oga to deal with Saint Ishiyama, with finding En, and then with the demons from Akuma Academy. The constant teaming up has been [[CharacterDevelopment slowly and tactfully]] making them much more friendly with each other. By Chapter 211, three out of four of the Tohoshinki are now part of Beel's King's Crest, implying that they have certainly become FireForgedFriends. By Chapter 217, all four of them are revealed to be part of it.]]
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sort of. Kanzaki seems to be choleric, Himakawa is sort of phlegmatic, Aoi tends to be melancholic, which leaves Tojo to be... [[GenkiGirl ARE YOU KIDDING?!]]
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Kanzaki and Himekawa are this compared to Kunieda and Tojo, at least in terms of their fighting capabilities. Neither of them are weak mind you, they're often shown defeating ordinary delinquents with ease, it's just that the other two are ridiculous powerhouses by any metric.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: By happenstance, Oga ends up defeating them in order of how powerful each faction is. Kanzaki is a fairly ordinary leader of his gang and is taken down directly. Himekawa prefers to use his connections and resources over fighting head-on and manages to cause some trouble by hiring goons to kidnap Furichi and Hilda ([[PlayAlongPrisoner who played along]]) but goes down instantly the moment he's actually cornered. Kunieda proves to be the first person capable of giving Oga a real challenge (and their fight happened over a misunderstanding). Finally Tojo actually beats Oga in their first fight and only narrowly loses the second bout.
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler:The King's Crest is only given to those who have sworn their allegiance to a king. As of Chapter 217, it is revealed that all four of the Tohoshinki have Beel's King's Crest, signifying their loyalty to Oga.]]

[[folder:Kanzaki]]
!!Hajime Kanzaki
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kanzakihajime_2468.jpg]]
[[quoteright:250:'''King's Crest:''' Back, #1]]

--> Voiced by: Creator/TomokazuSugita

The first boss taken on by Oga in his quest to be rid of Baby Beel. Kanzaki's gang was one of the most feared gangs in Ishiyama, and his reputation for malice and extreme violence was the reason Oga sought him out in the first place. However, after Kanzaki humiliates and attacks Shiroyama, his most loyal subordinate, an enraged Oga defeats him, upon which he loses his reputation and much of his retinue, save for Natsume and Shiroyama.

Kanzaki has mellowed out much after his defeat, beginning to consider Natsume and Shiroyama as friends rather than subordinates, and became much more loyal to Oga and the rest of his schoolmates in Ishiyama.
----
* BadBoss: He initially treated everyone under him like crap. [[spoiler:He still does, but in a more JerkWithAHeartOfGold manner, and he takes offense to others treating his subordinates like crap.]]
* BerserkButton: Pulling that chain on his face looks awfully tempting, but it gets him seriously pissed off and gives him a [[UnstoppableRage huge power boost.]]
** Also, don't make his niece Futaba (manga) cry. She's a brat, yeah, but he still cares about her.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Chapter 216 -- he and Beel pop in to save Yuka and the other non-powered Ishiyama students from Takamiya's King's Crest powered goons, before rushing off to destroy the device sealing Oga's power off from Beel.]]
* CaptainSmoothAndSergeantRough: He plays the Rough role to Himekawa's Smooth.
* ClaspYourHandsIfYouDeceive: He does this when he tells his niece that [[spoiler:the real Santa is dead and the MallSanta is an imposter, to avoid her giving him orders on what to tell Santa to get her for Christmas.]]
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Thanks to the King's Crest.
* GRatedDrug: His love of "yogurti" milk is sometimes shown as this. In the cooking challenge, no matter what Yuka did he kept adding it to the dish, while his first fight with Oga was over Oga buying the last carton for Beel, he used yogurti as his avatar's head during the war game before everyone made him change...
* HotBlooded: He's very impulsive, and this tends to get him into a lot of trouble when he doesn't realize he's being outclassed.
* HypocriticalHumor: When someone tries to use his niece as a hostage, Hajime calls them on it... only for his subordinates to point out that is exactly the sort of thing he has done before.
* ICanStillFight: He and Himekawa pull this trope while fighting Tojo's underlings.
** Also tries something similar during the rooftop battle with the Six Knights.
* IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten: His way of testing Oga's loyalty to him (asking him to throw Shiroyama out of the window); it predictably backfires.
* {{Jerkass}} --> JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's an arrogant prick, but he cares deeply for his friends and considers them his TrueCompanions. In fact, he was possibly the most enraged out of the main cast when [[spoiler:Himekawa turned traitor]].
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: He would enjoy partaking in this, especially in his earlier appearances.
* MilesGloriosus: He heads down this path after Oga beats him. [[OvershadowedByAwesome He's a good fighter that gets into fights WAY over his head.]] [[spoiler:It's Subverted when a chapter in the Return to Ishiyama Arc shows him to be aware of his poor track record when it comes to fights, and reveals his tendency to recklessly attack is an attempt to prove to himself that he's not a wimp.]]
* OddFriendship: With Yuka.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: By his own teammates. Kanzaki seems to be of average intelligence, and he's a skilled fighter. It's just that Oga, Kunieda and Toujou are absolute monsters while Himekawa is a {{Manipulative|bastard}} {{Chessmaster}}. [[spoiler:Eventually, he TookALevelInBadass to compensate for this, and near the end of the Return to Shiyama Arc, he goes on a rampage that permanently establishes his badass cred.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: He's always got a bored, disinterested frown on his face.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: He goes on a short-lived one when Shiroyama is beaten into unconsciousness with dumbbells. Unfortunately, Miki takes him out.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: He has this dynamic with Yuka.
* ThoseTwoGuys: In early chapters, after both were defeated by Oga but before either of them really got any characterization, he had this going with Himekawa.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:At the end of Chapter 193, he becomes the first of the Tohoshinki to gain Beel's King's Crest, revealed in Chapter 194 to be the mark of a vassal. He then proceeds to beat the ever-loving shit out of a group of magically empowered delinquents who were mopping the floor with him earlier.]]
--> [[spoiler:Furuichi: [[LampshadeHanging He's fucking badass now!!]]]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Absolutely ''no one'' is as addicted as he is to yogurt drinks.
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler:Hilda reveals that the "King's Crest" on Kanzaki is only given to those who have sworn life-long allegiance to a lord, so it seems that as much as he would hate to say it to his face, Kanzaki truly sees Oga as his boss. Furthermore, the lower the number of the crest, the higher the bearer's allegiance is to their king. Since Kanzaki is #1, that indicates the loyalty/trust between him and Oga is the strongest amongst the Tōhōshinki -- which is saying a ''lot'', considering that he beat out Kunieda, who is in love with Oga and was the first of the group to learn about demons]].
* WarmupBoss: Kanzaki is the first of the Tohoshinki that Oga comes across, and by far the easiest to deal with.
* {{Yakuza}}: He's the second son of the Kanzaki-gumi ''oyabun'', or family head.

[[folder:Himekawa]]
!!Tatsuya Himekawa
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/TatsuyaHimekawa_6400.jpg]]
[[quoteright:250:'''King's Crest:''' Left Forearm, #3]]

--> Voiced by: Seiro Ogino

A member of the Tohoshinki and the second member that Oga takes on in his quest to be rid of Baby Beel. At first he is seen as a suave, devilishly smooth mafioso style guy, sporting an 80's style outfit and a ridiculous pompadour. After meeting Oga, however, we then see him become [[BadassDecay almost entirely useless]].

Himekawa is the sole heir of a large financial zaibatsu, and almost always uses his immense wealth to have his way. Unluckily for him, his money was not able to buy Oga off, the latter promptly giving him the beating of his life. He now regularly uses his wealth to assist the Ishiyama Gang in their escapades, revealing an unexpectedly sharp mind in the process. He is also shown to be [[{{Bishonen}} quite handsome]] [[SheCleansUpNicely when he doesn't sport his trademark pompadour]].
----
* ALadyOnEachArm: He's like this the first time we see him.
* ArrangedMarriage: He's been engaged to [[spoiler:Kugayama (who's ''female'')]] since birth. It turns out [[spoiler:he knew about the engagement, just not to ''who''. He didn't even know Kugayama ''was a chick''.]]
* BatmanGambit: He pulled one on the fly to avoid being expelled and to force a confrontation with the Six Knights, which not only saved him, Oga, and their group from being kicked out of the school, but also got the Six Knights to give up most of their authority.
* BerserkButton: Don't cheat when playing a video game against him. [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney He'll pull out all the stops]] [[ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem to destroy his opponent when it happens]].
* BishieSparkle: Happens frequently whenever he lets his hair down, especially when he's introducing himself.
* BeautifulAllAlong: Who would have thunk it?
* BlackmailIsSuchAnUglyWord: He never outright says it, but considering some of his actions...
* CaptainSmoothAndSergeantRough: He's the Smooth to Kanzaki's Rough, considering his use of bribery to get what he wants.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: He starts off as being a violent SmugSnake. Compare the {{Bishonen}} MagnificentBastard in the later episodes to his debut. He was also a womanizing jerk the first time we saw him, but this was dropped almost immediately.
* TheChessmaster: Hoo boy. [[spoiler:He fakes defecting during the Return to Ishiyama arc, wears a skin patch to disguise his King's Crest, and acquires a machine to cut off Oga from Beel...because he remembered that last time that happened, the power build up was immense and let Oga destroy a school with one punch. The second a spellmaster says the built up power is enough to handle Takiyama and Lucifer, he destroys the machine and dismisses it as pocket change.]]
* ChickMagnet: He's proven himself to be very charming, and when he ditches the pompadour, girls flock to him.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Kugayama. [[spoiler:It's unknown whether she's [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Victorious]] or [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend Unlucky]], since it isn't clear what Himekawa's feelings on the subject are. Though the end of the arc heavily implies that while he is confused about the entire situation, he does still consider Kugayama his friend and isn't entirely opposed to their relationship evolving from platonic friendship.]]
* CombatPragmatist: This includes covering his chest with a ceramic plate and using a stun baton.
* CoolShades: See his picture.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Thanks to his King's Crest.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[{{Jerkass}} Sort of.]]
** FakeDefector: [[spoiler:See Chapter 217.]]
* FashionDissonance: Caught somewhere between AwesomeAnachronisticApparel and OutdatedOutfit, Himekawa and that forward beehive of his stand firm.
* {{Fiction 500}}: Comes from a wealthy banking family. Apparently his monthly allowance is in the hundred-thousands and he considers spending millions pocket change (he has only been out of money ''once'' and that was in a filler episode. To date he has: owned the top seven floors of a high rise apartment complex, bought an entire gaming company on a whim, and spent several million on [[spoiler: a demon-sealer]] that he always planned to destroy. He also has access to what is assumed to be a ''very'' expensive penthouse in a resort location. And his family owns an island shaped like a pompadour.
* GuileHero: While he's nowhere near Toujou ([[spoiler:he only beat a [[BadassNormal normal]] Toujou when he himself had a powerful King's Crest, and even then, he took quite the beating]]) or Aoi's level, he's pretty handy in a fight. His most dangerous weapon by far, though, is his intelligence and cunning.
* HighSchoolHustler: His tendency to use his reputation and vast fortune to manipulate the delinquents at Ishiyama makes him this.
* HonestyIsTheBestPolicy: [[spoiler:Telling Oga that he was infiltrating the Fallen Angels as part of a ruse.]]
* ICanStillFight: He and Kanzaki pull this trope while fighting Tojo's underlings.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Subtly alluded to throughout the series.
** By the Demon's Painting arc, we find out that his best friend when he was a kid betrayed him, and he hasn't really been able to trust anyone since. [[spoiler:Finding out said best friend was a girl and in love with him may have messed with him even more.]]
* {{Jerkass}} -> JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He starts out as a selfish, greedy, womanizing prick, but while his abrasive personality never really goes away, he becomes much more willing to help out his friends. A perfect example of this is his tendency to pay ridiculous sums of money on his friends' accounts, and then claim that this money is just pocket change, almost lording his money over them yet still helping them out. Still an asshole, though
* LonelyRichKid: As we find out in later chapters.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: The pretty you'll find out later.
** He seems to resent having his hair down though, as he is irritated when it's changed involuntarily.
** An employee of his family's in a filler episode revealed that his fighting power is halved when his pompadour is not up. This may or may not be canon, as he was shown training with his hair down in the manga's Akumano arc and so should be taken with a grain of salt.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Whenever he can't throw his money around he's usually lumped in with mediocre fighters like pre-badass Kanzaki, but then he electrocutes an entire gang with a custom taser-whip and coolly drops one of them off a high rooftop just to prove a point.
--> "We have to teach you to never oppose us, '''ever again'''."
* OnlySaneMan: Not like Furuichi or Aoi, though, as he's LockedOutOfTheLoop regarding the demons. [[spoiler:Until the Return to Ishiyama arc.]]
* OutOfCharacterMoment: During a conversation with Kuguyama, he says that there are things in this world that money can't buy. Furuichi [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness is shocked to hear this]].
* SarcasticConfession: When Oga demands to know what he's doing with Takamiya's group, Himekawa tells him ''in front of Takamiya's people'' that he's a FakeDefector. But because they know that Oga is kind of an idiot and Himekawa is a liar, they readily believe that he was just lying to make Oga go away.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: His philosophy in life is that if you can't beat 'em, [[EveryManHasHisPrice buy 'em]]. It didn't work so well with Oga, however.
** He uses it again when playing a videogame against [[spoiler:En and his maids]]... but to be fair, he didn't use this trope until the other side started to cheat.
** And again to buy [[spoiler:a [[DiabolusExMachina demon sealer]].]]
* [[SheCleansUpNicely He Cleans Up Nicely]][=/=][[LettingHerHairDown Letting His Hair Down]]: "Hime" sure is bishounen when his hair isn't in that ridiculous pompadour and he takes his glasses off... to the point that no one recognizes him.
** Furuichi referred to it mentally as Himekawa's "Super Pretty Boy" mode.
* TheSmartGuy: At least as far as the Tohoshinki is concerned. The others frequently comment on how useful he is. The fact is, most of the other characters have no idea what exactly he's doing, but there's no doubt that things would be much harder for the protagonists, who are of average intelligence at best and are dumb as bricks at worst, to succeed in most of the major conflicts int the series.
* ThoseTwoGuys: In early chapters, after both were defeated by Oga but before either of them really got any characterization, he had this going with Kanzaki.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:In Chapter 202, he took down ''Tojo'', of all people.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: The King's Crest signifies sworn allegiance to a king. It was originally believed that [[spoiler:Himekawa was loyal to Takamiya, by virtue of having his King's Crest -- but he used a fake patch of skin to pretend to have Takamiya's King's Crest and to hide Beel's King's Crest, indicating that his loyalty has always been to Oga and no one else.]]
** He's later questioned on this trope by Fuji. Himekawa laughs in his face and declares that not understanding this concept is why Fuji will not beat Oga in the end. [[spoiler:Given that Himekawa is being turned to stone simply to slow Fuji down, it was very clear he still embodies the trope as well.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kunieda]]
!!Aoi Kunieda
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Aoi_Kunieda__1668.jpg]]
[[quoteright:250:'''King's Crest:''' Left Pectoral, #2]]

->''"I can't let anybody see that the leader of Kantou's strongest ladies, The Red Tails, is taking care of a baby."''

--> Voiced by: Creator/AkiToyosaki

Aoi is a 17-year-old that leads an [[AmazonBrigade all-girl]] delinquent group in the school, the Red Tails. She uses a [[WoodenKatanasAreEvenBetter wooden sword]] to fight with and is one of the best fighters in the series thus far. She has a crush on Oga, but won't admit it to anyone, including herself. She quit the Red Tails, but still fights and hangs out with them. She dons a [[PaperThinDisguise disguise]] and a fake name when taking care of her little brother in the park or other places so as not to be embarrassed or confused as his mother. Especially in front of Oga. She is almost always seen with her two henchman/friends [[TheQuietOne Chiaki]] and [[NumberTwo Nene]] After her first encounter with Behemoth's subordinates she becomes the second person to learn the true nature of Baby Beel.
----
* [[AFatherToHisMen A Mother to Her Women]]: She's very protective of her fellow gang members, but also very forgiving. Completely unwilling to attack or harm her fellow members for any reason. [[spoiler:Even when some of them betray her, she was unwilling to fight back until she had [[TookALevelInBadass taken a level of badass]] high enough to defeat them all without harming them too much.]]
* AbsurdCuttingPower: She swings her wooden sword once and glass is cut ''twice''. Also, stone and concrete walls don't hold up very well in the face of her actual techniques. This is a part of her family martial art style -- Shingetsu. One of the basic principles and techniques is called "Nadeshiko"; it allows her to cleanly split a stone the size of her head cleanly in half with an open-palm strike by channeling her energy. This is how she manages to cut Sakaki's bokken in half with ''just a ruler''.
* ActionGirl: There's a reason she became one of the Tōhōshinki and she's continued developing her skills over time.
** ActionGirlfriend: Usurping Hilda's position as this is her unofficial goal.
* AmazonBrigade: She used to lead the Red Tails as the 3rd Leader, which was composed of the entire female student body.
* BadassAdorable: She's pretty cute whenever she goes all ''deredere'' toward Oga.
* BadassLongcoat: When she was leading the Red Tails. [[spoiler:She gets it back in Chapter 200, taking the leadership back from Nene.]]
* BenevolentBoss: She clearly cares deeply for the Red Tails. [[spoiler:She also allows Red Tail defectors to come back, but insists on tagging a few of their gang jackets with "fake" at the top.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: When Oga, Himekawa, and Kanzaki were going to fight Tojo near the beginning of the series, the entire male student body showed up to stop them. Then Aoi and the Red Tails show up and start kicking ass.
** She has one again in [[spoiler:Akuma Academy]] to save Nene.
** And yet again, during the [[spoiler:Akuma Academy Raid to save Hilda, when she arrives to save Oga from fighting a horde of female demons]].
* CannotSpitItOut: She just won't admit that she likes Oga to his face. Or to herself for that matter. She's getting better though.
** During the Saint Christmas arc, she [[LampshadeHanging admits that she just doesn't have the courage to do so]].
* [[CantHoldHisLiquor Can't Hold Her Liquor]]: She gets ''very'' drunk at dinner with Suiten and Oga. Although in her defense, Suiten [[UnsuspectinglySoused told her the Vodka was water]].
* CherryBlossomGirl: She has shades of this. She uses [[FlowerMotif sakura-themed]] techniques, is associated to love (being in love with Oga)and [[PinkIsFeminine pink]] (at least in anime), wields a wooden katana and dresses sometimes like a {{Miko}}. It's mentioned also she's born on May 15 which is a spring day.
* ClassRepresentative: After their transfer to St. Ishiyama, she was appointed as co-representative with Oga, tasked to keep the delinquents of Ishiyama in line.(Cue her girlish daydreams of doing patrol duty together with him) She's the only one taking the job seriously, however, as Oga prefers slacking off.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Become this when Oga and Hilda look like a couple.
* DefrostingIceQueen: It begins when she meets Oga, later followed by her departure from the Red Tails.
* DoesNotLikeMen: Subverted. At first, she seemed as sexist as the rest of her crew, as it is the Red Tails' official policy not to rely on or date men, but actually she doesn't like frivolous and perverted men. After her fight with Oga, she left the group after meeting (and falling for) him. [[spoiler:Since Furuichi had a hand in getting that particular rule abolished, she doesn't have to chose between the Red Tails and Oga anymore.]]
* DudeMagnet: PlayedForLaughs. She's attracted quite a few suitors, including Aiba, Sakaki of the Six Knights, and Akahoshi.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: After dealing with a lesser god, she obtained [[spoiler:power to fight against demons]]. She gets another one in the form of [[spoiler:the Second King's Crest from Beel and Oga.]]
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: A lot of the Red Tails really admire her, especially Nene, and then there's whatever is going on between her and [[BloodKnight Agiel]].
* GirlishPigtails: As Aoi Kunie.
* GirlPosse: She has one. [[TheStoic Chiaki]], [[TheDragon Nene]], [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Yuka]], and the rest of the Red Tails follow her more or less everywhere, and are the only people except Furuichi who notice her [[AllLoveIsUnrequited crush on Oga]]. They even threaten him not to take advantage of her, much to his confusion.
* ImplausibleFencingPowers: She can cut through concrete with a wooden sword, and that's in her first appearance (technically second, but she wasn't fighting in her first). Her abilities only get more implausible as time goes on.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She prefers a wooden sword, but she has used an [[ParasolOfPain umbrella]] and once a ruler. Yes, it was a pink, flowery ruler, and she used it to [[AbsurdlySharpBlade cut her opponent's wooden sword -- IN HALF.]] She also destroys a small shrine with just a branch she took off a nearby tree.
* InterruptedDeclarationOfLove: Thanks to Satan's {{Moment Killer}}.
* IsThatCuteKidYours: People are constantly mistaking her little brother for her son and gossiping about how kids these days are so irresponsible. She does not approve.
* JapaneseDelinquents: She doesn't even seem to be the delinquent-type unless one sets off her surprisingly short fuse. During the park debut, when the cop was talking bad about both her and Oga, she was about to ''slap'' him for being a douche.
* LoveTriangle: She thinks she is in one, but Hilda does not love Oga [[spoiler:[[DefrostingIceQueen ...maybe]].]]
** She is in another one, only with Aiba Izo having a crush on her, while Oga has no idea what is going on.
* MandatoryUnretirement: The Red Tails just won't let her quit. [[spoiler:She finally picks up the leadership again after having a nasty time with the former 2nd Leader of the Red Tails coming back.]]
* {{Miko}}: Her family owns a shrine. She also dresses as one when training.
* MistakenForCheating: Downplayed; She gets pissed off when she thinks that Oga has been cheating on Hilda with her, though he wasn't interested in either of them to begin with.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She has a petite figure and, unlike the male members of the Tōhōshinki, her muscles aren't all that defined. She's still the second most dangerous of them all. Justified in that her power comes not from strength, but rather from being ridiculously skilled in powerful techniques taught by her grandfather [[spoiler: who fights demons as an exorcist]].
* NoShirtLongJacket: Her Red Tails outfit.
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Woman]]: Of Ishiyama's special class.
* PaperThinDisguise: Her alter-ego, Aoi Kunie (which she adopted when taking care of Kota), is her wearing girly clothes, a bucket hat, and glasses with her hair in pigtails. Except the Red Tails, nobody in Ishiyama saw through her disguise. Especially Oga.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her dad is off doing solitary training, and her mom is looking for him.
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the Red to Hilda's Blue, and the Blue to Nene's Red.
* {{Sarashi}}: Part of her Red Tails outfit.
* SitcomArchNemesis: With Hilda on a regular basis.
** AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Hilda is this for Aoi. Unlike most examples, Aoi generally becomes okay with the fact that Hilda is stronger than her. To be more precise, she's not happy with the situation, and she eventually wants to take Hilda's place beside Oga, but she isn't resentful.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Kunieda's the only female in the Tohoshinki.
* TeamMom: After transferring to Saint Ishiyama, Kunieda often finds herself having to reign in or keep her fellow delinquents focused on the task at hand, largely due to her being the most sensible member as well as being the only one who actually cares about following the rules.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Aoi is the only one in Oga's inner circle who won't start beating people up for no real reason, and unless you insult her or do something that offends her sense of justice, she's one of the nicest people one could hope to meet.
* {{Tsundere}}: She's so nice that she really isn't much of an actual delinquent, but when it comes to Oga she steadfastly refuses to admit she likes him even to herself ''despite'' stepping down as leader of the Red Tails since that would mean she couldn't date anyone. One admirer even finds it adorable how she manages to be tsundere while completely alone.
* UndyingLoyalty: Her reception of a King's Crest shows her loyalty to Oga and truly believes that he is '''THE''' leader, regardless of how unrequited her one-sided crush is.
* WakeUpCallBoss: She's the first opponent Oga faces that's an actual threat to him.
* WeakButSkilled: She actually has difficulty even lifting a medium small rock, but then once she sets it down she splits it cleanly in two with a palm strike. She doesn't ''need'' strength with her style of martial arts and swordsmanship.
* WoodenKatanasAreEvenBetter: Her standard weapon. During the Akuma Academy arc, she reveals she does have access to a real katana, although using it against regular delinquents is a bit much since she can cut damn well anything with just her wooden ''bokuto'' already...

[[folder:Tōjō]]
!!Hidetora Tōjō
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/138735_8805.jpg]]
[[quoteright:225:'''King's Crest:''' Left Shoulder, #4]]
->'' "If you've got a problem, then we'll settle it with fists."''

--> Voiced by: Creator/TomokazuSeki

The last of the Tōhōshinki to be introduced and by far the strongest one, Tojo (Tora to his friends) could have taken over Ishiyama any time he wanted if he actually cared about it. He loves nothing more than a good fight and has power to back it up, being the first man to ever beat Oga in a fight.

He's... actually a pretty nice guy who won't bother those who don't want to fight with him. He loves cute things like babies and cats. When he's not beating someone up he's usually working some kind of part-time job (exactly which job changes with each appearance).

After Oga destroyed Ishiyama High the two of them ended up in the same class (along with the rest of the main cast) and teamed up against the Six Knights. They get along now, which doesn't stop them from engaging in fights almost every time they meet.

Tojo has a past with Zenjuro Saotome, who took care of him when he was a kid.

He accidentally gets into a fight with some of Behemoth's demons and receives heavy wounds. He gets basic training from Zen on how to fight demons, and goes off on his own to train, later showing up to help at the end of the Akuma Academy arc.
----
* BadassNormal: He doesn't possess demon powers. Doesn't stop him from kicking ass.
* BerserkButton: Don't fuck with his friends. No seriously, don't. Because he's a BloodKnight, just beating his friends up is fine as far as he's concerned, but trying to kill them is ''not''. [[spoiler:When he thought Takamiya had killed Furuichi, he went berserk and with only a few punches, he started to do as much damage as Oga did with several powerful spells.]]
* TheBigGuy: Easily the tallest of the Tōhōshinki.
* BloodKnight: Even more than Oga!
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Every bit as physically strong as Oga if not stronger. When he fights an opponent who has a supersonic sword, he punches it and breaks it.
* CutenessProximity: He apparently tries to adopt animals he finds on the street.
* TheDeterminator: Probably the biggest in the series. [[spoiler:After fighting Izuma, who was using demon powers most of the night, he takes on a full demon and [[CurbstompCushion holds his own]].]]
** Chapter 216: [[spoiler:After losing the power of the King's Crest in the previous chapter and getting badly beaten, Tojo refuses to stay down. While Aoi and Kanzaki eventually encounter Beel, who powers them up individually, Tojo just keeps fighting and eventually knocks his King's Crest powered opponent to the ground, thinking he's feeling its power despite the fact that he wasn't even using it.]]
* TheDitz: He makes ''Oga'' look smart.
* DumbIsGood: Other than possibly Kunieda, he's the nicest of the whole Tohoshinki. He's also definitely the dumbest.
** When Saotome tried to explain that there would be demons ("akuma") Tojo thought he meant bears (a "kuma") and proceeded to go off to train fighting bears bare-handed.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: From Chapter 211 onwards.
** BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:After temporarily losing the King's Crest, he still defeats his opponent]].
* FriendlyEnemy: He's like this with almost everyone. He's such a BloodKnight that he doesn't even seem to realize that fighting is something usually done between people who hate each other. The way he sees it, fighting is just a pastime, one he really, ''really'' enjoys, and he considers most of the people he fights good friends ''because'' of the difficult fights they give him, not in spite of them.
* GentleGiant: Despite being a 2-meter-tall BloodKnight, at heart he's probably the nicest person in Ishiyama. He also has teddy-bear pyjamas. Don't forget the time he oogled over a kitten and Baby Beel himself.
* GracefulLoser: After Oga beat him, he took it surprisingly well.
* HypocriticalHumor: At several points, he calls Oga an idiot. Except, he's really not the sharpest tool in the shed, and most of the time, when he corrects Oga, he's even more wrong.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[BloodKnight Unless you are asking for a fight,]] he isn't a huge jerk, but even then, all he'll try to do is attack you (which he'll only do if you're strong enough to give him a challenge), [[FriendlyEnemy and he won't actually have anything against you afterwards,]] [[GracefulLoser even if you win.]]
* LightningBruiser: He's strong (in terms of purely physical strength, likely ''the'' strongest character in Team Oga), very, very fast, and he's such a MadeOfIron [[TheDeterminator Determinator]] that his endurance is inhuman.
* MadeOfIron: Oga can kick people into concrete with half-hearted kicks, even while sick. Tojo blocked Oga's full-power kick with his '''forehead'''.
** Has trained by fighting bears during the start of the Akumano arc.
* MallSanta: During the manga's Christmas arc.
* MegatonPunch: Undisputed master of this.
* NiceGuy: The only exception to this is when he's getting ready for a fight, yet even then, he'll only fight if his opponent wants to. If they don't want to fight, he usually won't force them.
* ObliviousToLove: [[spoiler:Seems that way at least in regards to his childhood friend Nanami Shizuka, given their interactions and Shizuka's own thoughts on it.]]
* PetTheDog: He's very fond of small, cute things like cats, and takes good care of Beel while they're together.
* PunchPunchPunchUhOh: What most people go through when they fight him.
* RealMenCook: In the side story manga he is shown to be also a good cook.
* RealMenWearPink: Despite being a BloodKnight and one of the greatest badasses of the cast, Tojo loves sweets and cute things.
* TigerVersusDragon: He's the tiger to Oga's dragon. The character for tiger (''tora'') is also in his name.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:As if he wasn't [[BadassNormal badass enough]], at the end of Chapter 211, he's revealed to have gained Beelzebub's King's Crest a few days before, giving him access to demon powers. Cue CurbStompBattle...]]
* UndyingLoyalty: Tojo's loyalty is more like [[FriendlyEnemy Apollo Creed]] to Oga's Franchise/{{Rocky}}. He started off as Oga's opponent, [[DefeatMeansFriendship became friendlier after his defeat to Oga]], and while he still sees Oga as a rival, Tojo has frequently had Oga's back in fights and will do almost anything that Oga asks him to. His loyalty to Oga later rewarded and proved by him becoming the fourth person to receive Baby Beel's King's Crest.
* UnskilledButStrong: He isn't a particularly skilled combatant like Aoi is, but he more than makes up for it with his [[LightningBruiser overwhelming power, speed, and endurance]].
* TheWorfEffect: Usually to show how much of a threat something is, [[spoiler:such as Furuichi while channeling the Pillar Squad or later having Himekawa, now with a King's Crest, defeat him]].
** WorfHadTheFlu: In the Fuji arc he is [[spoiler: turned to stone]] like all the rest, but Kunieda points out he knew it was coming and defended a shield generator from ''100 attackers'' before he fell.

A laid-back subordinate of Kanzaki.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: Seems to be making a habit of this.
* BrilliantButLazy: He's clearly one of the strongest fighters around, but just can't be bothered to get serious.
* CavalierCompetitor:
--> ''"It's not really my style to go all out in a fight, you know."''
* ComedicSociopathy: The guy gets his kicks from watching (and then joining in) potential battles as they develop and unfold.
* CurbStompBattle: Every one-on-one fight he's been in.
* DissonantSerenity: Cheerfully ''laughs'' when the demons have taken over Ishiyama High, brainwashed the students, and practically declare all-out war on the gang.
* EvenEvilHasStandards
* FauxAffablyEvil
* HairFlip: Very fond of running a hand through his hair. The anime also animates it flipping [[{{Bishonen}} prettily]] while he's in action.
* HiddenDepths: Maddeningly so.
* HighSchoolHustler: Episode 14 shows his potential for [[ZanyScheme zany schemes]] and the beginnings of [[ManipulativeBastard manipulative]] tendencies.
* HypercompetentSidekick: Kanzaki ought to be his sidekick, not the other way around.
* LetsGetDangerous: Against the Six Knights, and then against Onizuka.
* MrFanservice: He's pretty good looking, in addition to having a ModestyTowel scene.
* PerpetualSmiler: If he stops smiling, bad things will soon happen.
* ServileSnarker: To Kanzaki, only because when he's around, there's bound to be a fight happening.
* TranquilFury: Except on a few rare occasions, it's hard to tell when he's angry or just bored. On those rare occasions, however, he still remains calm and collected.
* WildCard: Is stronger and more intelligent than he lets on, bordering on ObfuscatingStupidity. His actual motives have yet to be explored, however, and he remains one of the most mysterious characters in the series. Well, unless he was telling the truth about finding hanging around Kanzaki to be fun and interesting.

* ButtMonkey
* GentleGiant: With the exception of his pigtails, he's the very image of a brutish, violent thug. He's also one of the nicest characters in the series.
* GirlishPigtails: Overlapping with BraidsOfBarbarism. Very, ''very rare'' '''male''' example of this and not exactly played for laughs.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: One wonders exactly ''why'' he's so attached to Kanzaki.
* NiceGuy: He becomes one of the nicest characters in the series. For instance, when he stopped three St. Ishiyama students from harassing some of the Red Tails, and they called him out for cockblocking them, he let them each hit him once in compensation. Even when they started dropping dumbbells on his head, he wouldn't fight back because he thought he owed them.
* YesMan: To Kanzaki, bordering on UndyingLoyalty.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Gets this as well as a KickTheDog moment from Kanzaki after failing to dispose of Oga.

[[folder:The Red Tails as a whole]]

* ImprobableWeaponUser: See the individual entries for some examples.

!!Nene Ōmori
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neneomori_1321.jpg]]

--> Voiced by: Creator/AyahiTakagaki

The new leader of the Red Tails after Kunieda leaves. Nene's main objective is to get Kunieda to take her old position back.
----
* CantCatchUp: While she isn't at the monstrous level of fighters like Oga, Toujou, Kunieda, or even Ringo, Nene is an extremely competent fighter. However, given how she often goes up against demon-powered enemies and has a tendency to find herself in situations where she's extremely heavily outnumbered, her track record isn't that good.
* ChainPain: Her standard weapon is a chain she uses like a whip.
* DoesNotLikeMen: She enforces this vigorously as per being a Red Tail. She never quite forgave Oga for being the one to make Kunieda retire. [[spoiler:She does seem to have a soft spot for Furuichi, but she might just feel sorry for him.]]
* {{Fangirl}}: She freaks out when she [[spoiler:gets to talk to the Founder of the Red Tails on the phone]].
* FieryRedhead: When dealing with men, especially men she doesn't like, her aggressive behaviour can come off as this.
* HeroicSacrifice: She performs one in the online war game, TakingTheBullet to save Chiaki. Being a medic, Chiaki heals her.
* TheLeader: Became the leader of the Red Tails after Kunieda left.
* MsFanservice: She's a HeadTurningBeauty who gets a few {{fanservice}} moments during the story:
** During the BeachEpisode, she wears one of the skimpiest bikinis.
** In the "Return to Ishiyama High School Arc", Furuichi [[ThePeepingTom spies on her]] while she's a steamy ShowerScene in the changing room. The audience (and a peeved Furuichi) only see her SexySilhouette over all the CensorSteam. When she steps out of the shower, Furuichi perks up... only for her to reveal [[NonNudeBathing she was wearing a bikini the whole]] time for she [[GenreSavvy suspected he would go spying on her]]. But she [[WrongGenreSavvy underestimates how attractive Furuichi thinks she looks in the bikini]].
* NumberTwo: To Kunieda, even after Nene becomes the Red Tails' 4th Leader.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Aoi's blue.
* TheResenter: She has a grudge against Oga due to Kunieda leaving the Red Tail partly because of him. She slowly starts to get over it.
* SecretlyRich: Although it's not clear if it was a secret to everyone, or just Furuichi. Given the rather insular nature of the Red Tails, it's likely that at least the Saints faction of the Red Tails is aware of it.
* ShipTease: Gets a bit with Furuichi, both being the NumberTwo to Oga and Kunieda respectively, and also being the straight guy/girl in many of the craziness that happens around them.
* SpikesOfVillainy: When she goes to meet Misaki, she dresses up in an outfit featuring these.
* TakingTheBullet: In the "Return to Ishiyama High School Arc", she shields Yuka from taking a baseball bat to the head.

* OlderThanTheyLook: She's 21 years old, making her the oldest out of the Six Upstarts.
* SmugSnake: She's extremely smug, but without Koma's power, she's no match for even a normal Kunieda.
* TheStarscream: Implied to have been this after Kunieda deposed her as leader.
* TheVamp: She tries to use her body to get Oga to let his guard down. Which is kind of a dumb move, as Oga is ely oblivious to things like that. Luckily for her, however, Beel was in Oga's body, so it worked.
* WoodenKatanasAreEvenBetter: She and Aoi duke it out with wooden Katanas, and Ringo is actually pretty good with it. Not at Aoi's level, sure, but she still has some implausible cutting power.
* WouldHurtAChild: Backhands Baby Beel (thankfully Oga was in his body instead).

* TheEmperor: What he styles himself as.
* {{Expy}}: Resembles the flashback version of [[Manga/YuYuHakusho Sensui Shinobu]]. They even share a first name.
** In his original appearance, he was wearing a school uniform that made him look almost exactly like [[Manga/MedakaBox Misogi Kumagawa]], which suits his twisted personality.
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: Oddly enough for a series focusing on Delinquents, nobody underage really smokes, making Ringo and Takamiya stand out.
* [[MagneticHero Magnetic Villain]]: He has managed to gather a lot of different gangs under his banner. Might overlap with [[DarkMessiah Dark Messiah]].
* OhCrap: [[spoiler:After Oga powers up. He tries to run.]]
* PowerLimiter: [[spoiler:His training was basically turning his own body into this, so Lucifer's power didn't eat his skin away and eventually kill him. He proceeds to show Lucifer's power by giving EVERY SINGLE ONE of his mooks a King's Crest -- that's 261 Lucifer Crests total.]]

* DiabolusExNihilo: He was mentioned by name here and there leading up to the final arc, but never actually made any kind of appearance until the final showdown.

* PunchedAcrossTheRoom: Sends Oga through several houses with a single punch.
* TheDreaded: Shaping up to be this. The fact that Solomon company is banking on him "putting everything in order" doesn't give our heroes any relief. Takamiya evens calls him a monster.

----

----
* BadassTeacher: He's one of the few who can control the delinquents, mostly out of pure strength. Even accounting for demons, he's still one of the strongest characters in the setting.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Tojo, slowly becoming this to Oga.
* CurbStompBattle: Every single fight he's gotten into so far.
