[[folder:The Main Characters]]

!!The Heroes

* NiceMeanAndInbetween: Yamato and Terry are the pure good, friendly guys of the team (nice). Li is a calm and kind-hearted enough person, though he did start off as a villain, and Grey means well despite having a tough and surly exterior (in-between). Wen and Enjyu are heroes (eventually) but even after [[HeelFaceTurn turning good]], they are very brash and confrontational, and even a little arrogant at times (mean).
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The main heroes consist of an eccentric young boy raised as a cat, a boy in a yellow dress, a young child with a SplitPersonality disorder of some kind, and otherwise a bunch of reformed bad guys who were all part of the Shadow Alliance at one point.
* RedOniBlueOni: The cheerful and eccentric Yamato is the red to TheStoic and tough, somewhat emotionally repressed Grey's blue, while the brash and arrogant Wen is the red to the calm and quiet Li's blue.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: [[NiceGuy Yamato]], [[DudeLooksLikeALady Terry]] and [[BewareTheQuietOnes Li]] are the sensitive guys, while [[MenAreTough Grey]], [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Wen]] and [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys Enjyu]] are manly. Bull can be either, depending on which of his personalities is dominant at any given time.

%%* AscendedFanboy
* BadassNormal: Has the agility of a cat.
* CatBoy: After being raised by cats, Yamato is quick and agile, likes fish and has whiskers and cat-like hair.
%%* CheerfulChild

%%* Just AKid
%%* FieryRedhead
%%* GogglesDoNothing

%%* ParentalAbandonment: [[spoiler: There's a reason for that.]]
* RaisedByWolves: By cats from when he was 5 years old.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Taiyaki.
* UncattyResemblance: With Tommy, his pet cat.
* WildChild: Both when was 5, and even now when he's 11.

* AllEncompassingMantle: What he wears most of the time.
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: He doesn't remember the times of when he's in his alternate personality once he turns back.
* TheBrute: His dark-heard, open-eyed personality. Though this is only in the anime.
%% * BumblingSidekick: Depends on which personality he's in.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite his quirkiness and alternate personalities, he turns out to be a skilled mechanic and repairer of B-Daman, eventually even becoming Armada's apprentice.
%% * CloudCuckoolander
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: His "good" side and "evil" side are black and red, respectively.
* DemotedToExtra: Despite appearing prominently in the intro, and having a fairly large roll near the beginning of the series. [[spoiler: By the time Marda B's good side assembles a group '[[ChosenOne chosen]]' players to square off against his dark half. Bull has been frozen in stone like every other extra on the show.]] This happens to him gradually in the manga as well, doubly so for his recessive "evil"/berserker" side.
* FaceOfAThug: For his [[TurnsRed red-headed personality.]]
* FieryRedhead: You guessed it, his red-headed personality.
* FreudianTrio: His personalites are this. With his first (and most prominent) personality being the Cuckoolander, well more so than the other two anyway. Though this is only the case in the anime.
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: Depends on which personality is dominant at the time.
%%* GeniusDitz
%%* JustAKid
%%* TheKlutz

* MoodSwinger: His defining characteristic.
%% * NiceGuy: Most of the time.
* SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset: Wears a necklace of skulls around his cloak and mantle.
* SkintoneSclerae: When in his default "good/normal" mode.
* TheSmartGuy: Becomes this, surprisingly, for Yamato and the group.
* TurnsRed: When in his "evil" mode.

* AloofBigBrother: Kind ofacts like this towards Yamato. ''Doesn't'' act as one [[BigBrotherInstinct towards his sister.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Liena, although they're actually twins. [[spoiler:It's how he got ForcedIntoEvil.]]
* BlowYouAway: His B-Daman, ''Chrome Zephyr''; now ''Chrome Raven.''
* CommonalityConnection: With Joshua. See his section for the details.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:His hometown was destroyed and his twin sister was captured and taken away, and he ultimately doesn't take it lying down.]]
* ForcedIntoEvil: [[spoiler:The Shadow Alliance blackmails him into working for them via holding Liena hostage.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold
* IneffectualLoner: Tried to keep an emotional distance from everyone at first.
%% * ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies
%% * MoralityPet: His little sister, Liena.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: To the point where he hits Yamato for asking Liena to give him a back rub, and states that he would never allow her to do such crass things.
%% * TheSmartGuy
%% * TeamDad

!!Mie Daiwa/[[DubNameChange Mie Delgado]]
->Voiced by: Creator/NaokoTakano (JP), Creator/PhileceSampler (EN), Lama Alshamandi (AR)

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hqdefault_1_35.jpg]]

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair, brown eyes.
%%* TheHeart
%%* MamaBear
%%* NonActionGirl
%%* OverprotectiveMom
* SympathyForTheDevil: After Li loses to Terry, she's the only one who feels sorry for him when even his own ''brother'' doesn't.
* TooDumbToLive: Despite the fact that she knew Ababa was evil, and the fact that she'd seen Li in the company of Ababa multiple times. When she finally does run into him alone in episode 13, she immediately assumed that he was another one of her son's friends. This cluelessness nearly got her kidnapped in a similar fashion to [[spoiler: Liena]].

!!Tsubame Tsubakura/[[DubNameChange Terry McScotty]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TomokoKaneda (JP), Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn (EN, first 6 episodes), Creator/BarbaraGoodson (EN, from episode 7), Samar Kokash (AR)

[[quoteright:298:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/terry_6.png]]

* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Sometimes, to his [[SwornBrothers blood brother]], Joe Tetsunosuke.
%% Doesn't explain what the reaction is. * BerserkButton: His height. See NapoleonComplex below.
* BraveScot: Well, he is [[DubNameChange technically]] Scottish, has a Scottish accent in the anime, and he's certainly brave. However, he can also be considered to be a...
%%* FangThpeak: See SpeechImpediment below.
%%* FriendToAllLivingThings
* McNinja: He is called [[DubNameChange ''Terry McScotty'']] in the English dubbed anime and manga, and yet is a {{Ninja}}. Thus, he is probably one of ''the best and most literal examples of this trope ever created.''
** For example, as a Ninja, he is thus able to perform both the NinjaRun and NinjaLog, [[https://www.youtube.com/v/g6gYAzdQURo?version=3&start=406&end=429&autoplay=1&hl=en_US&rel=0 as shown here.]]
** To make it ''even more confusing''; he claims to be a "Highlander", but then explicitly states just a few minutes later of how he "came from Japan", [[https://www.youtube.com/v/g6gYAzdQURo?version=3&start=468&end=486&autoplay=1&hl=en_US&rel=0 as seen here.]]
* MeaningfulName: Well, his Japanese name at least, means ''swallow'' when translated into English; which fits with the bird theme of his B-Daman ''Wing Eagle'', and then later as ''Wing'' Sword.
* MisplacedAccent: For the English dubbed anime, though it is actually meant to be deliberately confusing, as [[DiscussedTrope discussed]] in FakeScot above.
%%* {{Ninja}}: He sometimes alternates between the two.
%%* NapoleonComplex
%%* PiratesVersusNinjas: The dynamic between Joe Tetsunosuke and Terry/Tsubame himself.
* TheRival: Starts out this way to Yamato.
* SpeechImpediment: He suffers from a [[FangThpeak lisp]], to be precise; though only in the manga.
* SweetTooth: He ''loves'' Mie Delgado's taiyaki.
* TheWorfEffect: Suffers from this quite a bit in both the anime and the manga.

* AintTooProudToBeg: [[spoiler:How he convinced Li to become a FakeDefector with him: Li knew Enjyu ''had'' to be serious as soon as Enjyu started begging for his help, as ''that'' would be too hard a blow to his pride if he were insincere.]]
* BestServedCold: [[spoiler:After obtaining Lightning Kahn, he went after his former friend Cornell by completely ruining what was supposed to be Cornell's greatest moment by attacking him right on the day of the finals in the tournament stadium humiliating him right in front of the audience.]]
%%* BreakTheCutie
* CoolBike: Rides a motorcycle in the manga.
* CynicismCatalyst: [[spoiler:Being betrayed by his friend and being booed at a tournament completely embittered him.]]
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has a lighting bolt-shaped scar on his face, which initially reflects his selfish nature, before his HeelFaceTurn.
%%* [[DefrostingIceQueen Defrosting Ice King]]
* EvilRedhead: As a villain.
* FakeDefector: [[spoiler:What he becomes in an attempt to infiltrate the Neo Shadow Alliance and bring them down from the inside.]]
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:He was betrayed by his childhood companion Cornell; who sabotaged Enjyu in order to get him disqualified in the final, after trying beforehand to guilt trip him into forfeiting their match, as his ''friend.'' (In the anime; he claimed that Enjyu had cheated, causing the crowd to turn against him, boo him offstage and thus quit the battle. In the manga; he shot down the locker directly onto Enjyu, thus preventing him from attending and playing against him.) Unsurprisingly, Enjyu then became extremely vengeful and cynical of the game after that, and so was easily manipulated by Ababa into joining the Shadow Alliance.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: DefeatMeansFriendship specifically, though it takes a while to really kick in.
* {{Jerkass}}: For the first season, where he's a piece of work with no redeeming qualities.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Post-HeelFaceTurn, this is what he becomes.
* ObliviousToLove: Enjyu is either completely oblivious to Liena's crush, or he's simply not interested.
* PsychoElectro: He has a lightning theme in his first appearance as a villain; on his clothes, as a scar, and with his B-Daman, ''Lightning Khan.''
* SaveTheVillain: [[spoiler:During his match with Yamato, Yamato pushes him out of the way of an oncoming attack form Ababa.]]
%%* SugarAndIcePersonality
* TheRival: To Yamato.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Adopts this attitude after his defeat by Yamato.

->Voiced by: Tomo Shigematsu (JP), Brad [=MacDonald=] (EN)

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wen_and_bakurekuso.png]]

%%* AnimeChinesePeople
* AntiHero: Post-HeelFaceTurn, particularly once he gets upgraded to main character status. Though he's a good guy now, his aggressiveness hasn't changed and it results in him not being quite as idealistic or compassionate as the others.
* AloofBigBrother: Towards Li, sometimes.
%%* ArrogantKungFuGuy
* BigBrotherBully: While he cares about Li, he's not above being somewhat mean to him during their time with the Shadow Alliance.
* BigBrotherInstinct: This comes out in full force after [[spoiler:Li's (fake) FaceHeelTurn to the Neo Shadow Alliance]].
%%* BraidsOfAction
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: He and Li are inhumanly agile.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Post-HeelFaceTurn. He tends to be rather silly, such as his whole hero getup, but it doesn't make him any less dangerous.
* DeadpanSnarker: In his early appearances, he and Li often display an acidic sense of humor.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has an "x" shaped scar on his cheek.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:By the end of the Winners Tournament in the first season.]]
* PaletteSwap: His outfit looks almost exactly like his brother, but with different coloring.
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the loud and brash one, whereas Li is the calm and stoic one. However, he wears blue in comparison to Li's red.
* SiblingTeam: With Li, complete with being able to fuse his blaster with his.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To his and Li's father.
* TakeMyHand: Yamato [[spoiler: [[SaveTheVillain attempts this with him]], thankfully it works]].

%%* AnimeChinesePeople
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Towards Wen, sometimes.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Not quite as much as Wen, but he has his moments. [[spoiler:And he plays it up while becoming a FakeDefector.]]
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: He cites that nobody's ever been as nice to him as Mie was while he was working for her, and it contributes to his HeelRealization.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Cain demands that he become this when he joins up with the Neo Shadow Alliance. So as to not blow his and Enjyu's cover, [[HeroicSacrifice Li complies]].]]
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: He and Wen are inhumanly agile.
* DeadpanSnarker: He can dish out some good quips. Unlike Wen, he remains this even after their HeelFaceTurn (it doesn't help that Wen tends to bring out this side).
* FakeDefector: [[spoiler:Enjyu, another FakeDefector, convinces him to join him in this.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:By the end of the Winners Tournament in the first season.]]
* HeelRealization: While he doesn't change sides until Wen does, he effectively stops being an antagonist much sooner, upon losing to Terry and realizing that there might be merit behind ThePowerOfFriendship after all.
* HeroicSacrifice: Non-fatally, but [[spoiler:he lets himself be brainwashed to ensure that Enjyu's mission to infiltrate the Neo Shadow Alliance will work.]]
* IgnoredEpiphany: Subverted. This ''seems'' to be the case when he starts to open up to Mie and teams up with Yamato, only to then shatter Terry's blaster under pressure from Enjyu and Wen--but after losing to Terry in the subsequent episode, he then regains the epiphany.
* NotSoStoic:
** During his DayInTheLimeLight episode, he seemed very happy helping Yamato's mother, Mie.
** He practically loses it during his match with Terry, likely due to a case of [[EvilCannotComprehendGood Evil Cannot Comprehend]] ThePowerOfFriendship.
* TheResenter: [[spoiler:While brainwashed, he claims to have always felt inferior to Wen and thus resented him. How much of this is true when not brainwashed is up in the air.]]
* TheStoic: Generally much more composed than his brother.
* OddFriendship: Hints of it with Yamato's mother.
* PaletteSwap: His outfit looks almost exactly like his brother, but with different coloring.
%%* PsychoticSmirk
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the calm and stoic one, whereas Wen is the loud and brash one. However, he wears red in comparison to Wen's blue.
* SiblingTeam: With Wen, complete with being able to fuse his blaster with his.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To his and Wen's mother.
* SweetTooth: He ''loves'' Mie Delgado's taiyaki.
* TechnicolorEyes: Has dark blue, almost black colored eyes, in contrast to Wen's normal brown ones.

!! Cain [=McDonnell=]
->Voiced by: Hiro YĆ«ki (JP), Creator/SteveBlum (EN), [[CrossDressingVoices Lama Alshamandi]] (AR)

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hqdefault_3_61.jpg]]

* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:His dad was noted to be rather stern with him and instilled his current power-obsessed mindset.]]
* AnimeHair: He's apparently taking cues from ''Manga/YuGiOh''.
* BadBoss: Blaster-wise, he's got a bad habit of breaking his whenever he gets a better one. People-wise, he's lucky Joshua's got a case of UndyingLoyalty going on, because Cain treats him like ''dirt''.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He initially appears as a perfect NiceGuy. In reality, he's one of the nastiest people you'll ever meet.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:What having AbusiveParents did to him throughout his childhood.]]
* EtTuBrute: [[spoiler:Joshua's "betrayal" is the first thing to throw him off his game--the first one, that is. Joshua's ''second'' one essentially drives him insane.]]
* EvilAllAlong: Suffice to say that he was never actually Yamato's friend.
* FreudianExcuse: See AbusiveParents and/or BreakTheCutie.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Implied at the end. Unlike others on this page, it's never explicitly shown.]]
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:He completely shuts down after his final match with Grey. It's not until the finale that he gets better.]]
* IronicEcho: A non-exact example, but after all his talk about how he was a master and Joshua was just his servant, Grey throws it back in his face when he points out that Cain has no friends or anything worth fighting for--and that he can't claim Joshua as one, because "he's just your ''butler''."
* ItsAllAboutMe: Even for a villain, he comes off as incredibly self-centered compared to the others in the show.
* {{Jerkass}}: One of the biggest in the show.
* KickTheDog: He likes to do this a lot, but [[spoiler:breaking the B-daball Joshua gave him as a kid]] probably ranks somewhere at the top of the list.
* LackOfEmpathy: It becomes clear that he suffers from this while casually [[spoiler:verbally abusing Joshua, at which point Grey asks if he even cares at all about how Joshua feels]].
* LonelyAtTheTop: Joshua claims that this would be the case if Cain didn't have him [[spoiler:as an incentive for Cain to take him back]], and Grey similarly calls him out on it in their final match.
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:He's very clearly losing it during his last match with Grey, ultimately culminating in his HeroicBSOD.]]
* TheStarscream: While he never outright betrays Marda B, it's implied that he ultimately would given that he doesn't give a damn about him--he's just out to TakeOverTheWorld for himself.
* TakeOverTheWorld: His goal and reason for joining with the Neo Shadow Alliance.
* UngratefulBastard: Joshua would literally die for him. Does Cain care? Nope.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: He used to be a CheerfulChild. [[spoiler:Joshua's goal is to bring that back.]]
* WellDoneSonGuy: It's ambiguous as to whether his dad's still around in the anime or not, but Cain's determined to make him proud.

!! Joshua
->Voiced by: Akira Susunuma (JP), Creator/BrianBeacock (ENG)

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joshua_57.jpg]]

* AntiVillain: As part of the Neo Shadow Alliance, he does absolutely nothing villainous, seems uncomfortable when Cain's being his {{Jerkass}} self, and graciously chooses not to report Enjyu's snooping around. [[spoiler:Being GoodAllAlong has to do with it.]]
* BattleButler: He's literally Cain's butler, as well as his NumberTwo. Fairly self-explanatory.
* BecomingTheMask: Possibly. [[spoiler:He mentions that he succumbed to the temptation of power, but whether he became evil alongside Cain before regaining his senses or if it was a case of wearing a facade a little too well is ambiguous.]]
* CommonalityConnection: Despite Grey quite possibly having hated his guts more than anyone else up until that point, he's quick to connect with Joshua after [[spoiler:hearing his reasons for being evil, due to understanding what it's like to kill your heart for the ones you love.]]
* ExtremeDoormat: Played with. [[spoiler:He generally doesn't defy Cain even when he disagrees with him, but it's because everything he does is in hopes of saving him. When he does need to stand up to Cain for the latter's own good, he will.]]
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: ObviouslyEvil to the viewer in his debut but never does anything honestly villainous, before then revealing himself to actually be a villain after all. [[spoiler:And then revealing himself to be GoodAllAlong and/or pulling a brief HeelFaceTurn before going back to Cain as TheMole, and then going back to the heroes (permanently) after Cain's defeat...]]
* HeroicSacrifice: The heroes stop him from going through with it, but [[spoiler:he had no qualms about dying if that would convince Yamato and co. to save Cain]].
* LoveMartyr: Considering he's willing to throw himself off a cliff for [[BadBoss Cain]]? Yeah.
* MortonsFork: He finds himself in this situation when up against Cain: [[spoiler:lose and affirm Cain's belief that kindness equals weakness, pushing him further into evil, or win and isolate Cain further... and thus pushing him further into evil? In the end, he chooses the former.]]
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Played with: see ExtremeDoormat.
* NotSoStoic: [[KickTheDog Damn you]], [[{{Jerkass}} Cain]]. ''Damn you''. [[spoiler:After Cain's KickTheDog moment above, Joshua starts crying.]]
* TheStoic: Almost always composed, to the point of freaking Grey--who's hardly a well of emotions either--out.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Rather aloof and admits to not being a social person, but an extremely caring person in the end. WordOfGod states him to be the nicest character in the series (though it's worth noting that applies more to the manga than the anime).
* UndyingLoyalty: Everything he does begins and ends with Cain.
