[[folder:Amata Sora]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuukiKaji (Japanese), Creator/ChristopherBevins (English)
[[quoteright:177:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amata_sora.png]]

A boy with the power of levitation amplified by intense emotions. Once shunned as a child due to his powers, he has since started wearing boots inlaid with pockets with which he can place weights so as to keep him aground every time. A chance encounter with Mikono, however, ultimately forces him to start embracing his powers.

In the series, he is the main pilot of Aquarion EVOL. In ''Aquarion Love'', he takes over as Aquarion Gepard's pilot after Zessica is defeated by Apollo.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Suffered a moderate one as a child when his levitation powers went off in the middle of a group of kids, hence the reason he wears pocketed boots with which he can place weights.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Protecting Mikono is always his top priority in his mind no matter the circumstance.
* AnimalsHateHim: At least Shu-Shu does.
* BattleStrip: In Episode 8, he tears off his Vector suit to increase his sensitivity to Jin's missiles and thus learn how to evade them more efficiently.
* BettyAndVeronica: The mild and insecure Betty to Kagura's dangerous and possessive Veronica. In the end, Mikono chooses Amata.
* BirdsOfAFeather: From the first episode, he quickly bond with Mikono because both are reserved people who suffer from low self-esteem.
* ButtMonkey: He got threatened by Cayenne with a beatdown twice, getting his ass sniped by Donar for floating around too much, and getting teased a lot by Zessica? The poor boy's got a tough life ahead. And that's not to mention frequent misunderstandings with Mikono.
* ChickMagnet: Many a female classmate {{squee}}d at the sight of him baring his chest by tearing off his Vector suit in Episode 8.
* ClassicalAntiHero: Amata is a good and nice boy, but he's also plagued by insecurities and lack of confidence because of his Element making him look like a freak in the past [[spoiler:and his mother abandoning him]].
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: While Apollo was a brash and impulsive JerkWithAHeartOfGold, Amata is a calm and withdrawn NiceGuy.
* CowardlyLion: He's rather timid and shy compared to the other male characters, but when push comes to shove, he can be just as HotBlooded as them.
* CursedWithAwesome: He hates his Element power, since it's not always controllable and has led to him being ostracized in the past.
* DeclarationOfProtection: He tells Mikono he will protect her.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Towards Mikono.
* TheDulcineaEffect: After he has known Mikono for about an hour, he's ready to risk his life to protect her. [[spoiler:Probably justified, since she is the reincarnation of his lover.]]
* EmotionalPowers: His Element is connected to his emotions. Most notably, he floats whenever he's flustered or nervous, usually over Mikono.
* EndearinglyDorky: He's clumsy and his uncontrolled levitation when he's excited doesn't help, yet Mikono and Zessica often find it attractive.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: There isn't a person in all of Neo-DEAVA who can't see that he's completely smitten with Mikono.
* {{Flight}}: His Element power is the ability to fly when his heart beats quickly. It manifests as a pair of wings sprouting from his ankles.
* HeroProtagonist: He's the protagonist and the main hero of the anime.
* HeroicBystander: Initially, he was just that guy working in a movie theatre before he gets [[FallingIntoTheCockpit thrown into the cockpit]] and saves everyone.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Initially. After joining Neo DEAVA he starts accepting his powers, knowing there are other teens like him.
* InstantExpert: After one small lesson from Zessica, he pilots Aquarion rather well for the first time in his life.
* LoveAtFirstSight: He falls for Mikono right away. Possibly justified [[spoiler:since they were lovers in their past life]].
* LuminescentBlush: His cheeks frequently turn pink whenever he and Mikono are having a moment.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural: His violet eyes hint at his levitation powers and [[spoiler:the fact that he's Apollo's reincarnation]].
* MeaningfulName:
** ''Amata Sora'' sounds close to the sun goddess ''[[Myth/JapaneseMythology Amaterasu]]'', which references his being a possible reincarnation of Apollonius the Solar Wing. [[spoiler:He's actually a reincarnation of the winged dog Pollon, and though it may remind some people of Amaterasu being a wolf in ''Videogame/{{Okami}}'', the game is intentionally SadlyMythtaken and the depiction is based on a pun]].
** "Amata" is {{UsefulNotes/Esperanto|TheUniversalLanguage}} for "beloved," derived from "amada" of Romance languages like {{UsefulNotes/Portuguese|Language}} and {{UsefulNotes/Spanish|Language}}.
** "Sora" is the Japanese word for "sky," fitting his power of flight.
* NiceGuy: He's a very polite and friendly guy.
* ObliviousToLove: It takes him a while to realize Zessica's interest in him isn't mere teasing anymore.
* PowerGivesYouWings: Using his [[PowerFloats Anti-Gravity powers]] grows [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/aquarion/images/5/51/Wings_of_Sun.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120207202924 wings on his back]] or [[MercurysWings ankles]].
* PowerIncontinence: He loses control of his levitation powers when he feels intense emotions. He wears boots inlaid with pockets with which he can place weights so as to keep him aground every time.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Andy's red. Also the blue to Kagura's red.
* {{Reincarnation}}: [[spoiler:Of Winged Hound Pollon/Apollo.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: [[spoiler:Mikono is the reincarnation of his past life's lover Silvia. However, what sets him apart from Kagura is that Amata does not [[LovingAShadow love a memory or a past life]], but the Mikono in front of him now.]]
* RunningGag: [[DrinkingGame Take a shot]] every time his power activates.
* ScrewDestiny: ''Does not'' believe that Kagura and Mikono are destined for each other [[spoiler:because they are the reincarnations of Apollon and Sylvie]], and that Mikono won't choose him because of this fact. [[spoiler:It turns out that he's actually right: Kagura is his EnemyWithout, created by Mykage when he abducted Alicia.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The sensitive guy to Andy's manly man.
* SingleTargetSexuality: While he's not necessarily oblivious to the attractiveness of the other girls, it's clear throughout the series that the only person he actually wants to get together with is Mikono.
* ShotInTheAss: Courtesy of Donar. Poor boy.
* TarotMotifs: Is associated with the ''Jack of Clubs''.
* ThisLoserIsYou: Initially. As of Episode 8, he has graduated into one of Neo DEAVA's {{Chick Magnet}}s.
* TwiceShy: With Mikono. They would have probably hooked up right in the first episode if only they stopped being so bashful around each other and talked about how they feel.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Mikono. They feel attracted to each other from their first meeting, but both suck at communicating their feelings. Several misunderstanding and conflicts with love rivals keep them from getting together until the series is over.

[[folder:Mikono Suzushiro]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiKayano (Japanese), Creator/BrinaPalencia (English)
[[quoteright:172:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikono_suzushiro.png]]

A girl hailing from a well-respected family of Element Users who is apparently born without any powers, causing her to become a withdrawn, shy girl who has to rely on her older brother Cayenne. After being saved by Amata, she ends up joining him at Neo DEAVA, whose higher-ups speculate that she may have the power to amplify the Aquarion. She also has a pet rabbit named Shu-Shu, who can hide in her hair like an accessory.
----
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: She's attracted to [[BloodKnight Kagura]], which seems to confuse even her as to why this would be the case. [[spoiler:She's actually drawn to the other half of her past life lover Apollo's soul.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: How she feels about her brother Cayenne, who according to her, has everything.
* BeautifulTears: When she first meets Amata, he sees her crying after watching the movie "Skies of Aquaria" and he blushes at how cute she is.
* BettyAndVeronica: She's the well-mannered and demure Betty to Zessica's flirtatious and provocatively dressed Veronica. Mikono is the one who gets Amata.
* BigBrotherWorship: She always clung on to her older brother Cayenne when they were younger, but these feelings have grown distant when he went off to join Neo DEAVA, seemingly leaving her behind.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Amata. From the first episode, they hit it off because they have similar shy personalities and as Mikono herself says, both think they're a "good-for-nothing pair."
* ClassicalAntiHero: Similar to Amata, Mikono is a good girl, but her past as an apparent MuggleBornOfMages has made her insecure, cowardly, and a crybaby who is a bit too dependant on Amata and Cayenne, as she thinks she's completely useless. In the second episode, she tries to persuade Amata into running away even though they were in the midst of a battle with lives on the line. Luckily, after she joins Neo DEAVA, she starts to gain more confidence in herself.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Not exactly clingy per se, but she usually gives Amata the cold shoulder whenever another girl makes him float.
-->[[CatchPhrase Amata, you'll fly for anyone, won't you?]]
* DamselInDistress: She often gets in trouble, like getting captured by [[{{Yandere}} Kagura]], and needs Amata to go rescue her.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Her classmates can easily see that she and Amata are attracted to each other.
* FirstGirlWins: She meets Amata at the start of the first episode and from that moment, it's obvious they're going to be a couple by the end of the anime.
* FreudianExcuse: Her low self-esteem and cowardice stems from her [[AbusiveParents father]].
* HairTriggerTemper: It's very subtle unlike most examples, but she's quick to get angry.
* TheHeart: She serves mostly as the emotional bond that keeps the Element Users, highly disparate personalities and all, together.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Turns out her own power is to amplify emotional connections between the Elements. As the Aquarion draws its energy from bonds, she can indirectly increase its power, making her a valuable asset to Neo DEAVA.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: She insists Amata isn't her partner and often denies her feelings for Amata when anyone asks or implies it. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt No one is convinced.]]
* HiddenBuxom: Her normal attire makes her look modestly endowed at best, but the merging sequences show that her chest is actually around the same size as [[MsFanservice Zessica's]]. That being said, the merging scenes in ''Sousei no Aquarion Love'' actually make her look smaller than her outfit implies.
* {{Hikikomori}}: It's said that Mikono didn't go outside much before she met Amata, mostly out of fear of abduction and issues concerning her [[MuggleBornOfMages apparent lack of powers in contrast to the rest of her family]]. By the time of the series proper, she's decided to reinvent herself and is actively denying her social fears.
* InSeriesNickname: Kagura calls her his "wench" or his "smelly wench." From Episode 11 onward, [[spoiler:this changes to "Sylvie."]]
* InformedAttribute: The Suzushiro family is said to be distinguished and her relatives are famous element-users yet none of her element-user classmates acknowledge that fact. The only thing she's been acknowledged for is being the younger sister of [[ChickMagnet Cayenne]].
* KindheartedCatLover: She keeps a little pet named Shu-Shu that [[InformedSpecies she says]] is a cat and she's gentle with it. Despite her frequent outbursts and stubbornness, Mikono is a good girl.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The soft-spoken, polite Light Feminine to Zessica's shameless, flirty Dark Feminine.
* LonelyRichKid: Because of her sheltered upbringing and low self-esteem for not showing to have a powerful Element like the rest of her family, Mikono grew up very isolated and never ventured outside her house or really interacted with other people until she met Amata.
* MagicEnhancement: Neo DEAVA's higher-ups speculate that her true power may be enhancing the Aquarion's combat abilities. Episode 9 reveals that she does so in an indirect way through amplifying her teammates' emotional bonds.
* MagicSkirt: You'll never catch a glimpse of her panties no matter what position and angle she's in despite the ridiculously short skirt she wears all the time.
* MuggleBornOfMages: She comes from a family of Element Users, but apparently was born without any powers. This turns out [[SubvertedTrope not to be the case]]; it's just that her Element power is rather subtle, and its effects aren't particularly noticeable as being the result of a supernatural ability.
* NaiveNewcomer: Unlike Amata who [[InstantExpert instantly]] knows what to do when piloting Aquarion, it takes her a few tries before she's actually comfortable with it.
* NiceGirl: Low self-esteem and quick-temper aside, Mikono is, at a core, a kind and polite young lady who looks out for her friends.
* {{Ojou}}: She hails from the well-respected Suzushiro family.
* PrimAndProperBun: She keeps her hair tied back in a bun, with her pet "cat" hiding there most of the time. This fits her image of a ladylike {{Ojou}}.
* ProneToTears: She almost instantly starts crying when she's upset about something, which is often.
* {{Protectorate}}: Both [[AlwaysSaveTheGirl Amata]] and [[KnightTemplarBigBrother Cayenne]] want to protect Mikono above anything.
* {{Reincarnation}}: [[spoiler:Of Celiane/Silvia.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: [[spoiler:Silvia's soul reincarnated into Mikono to be together with her lost lover Apollo's reincarnation, Amata. Mikono also felt attracted to Kagura because he, as Amata's EnemyWithout, also has part of Apollo's soul.]]
* ShrinkingViolet: Being [[MuggleBornOfMages powerless amidst a family of Element Users]] has made Mikono shy and insecure. Amata is the only person she can easily open up to [[spoiler:because he's the reincarnation of her lover Apollo]].
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Mikono has feelings for Amata because of his kindness and desire to protect her.
* StrangerInAStrangeSchool: She always feels out-of-place in Neo DEAVA because being around so many Element Users feeds into her insecurities over her own lack of an Element, whereas Amata can at least fit in with his equally psychic classmates.
* SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome: Her older brother Cayenne possesses a powerful Element of precognition and is the most popular guy at the Neo DEAVA academy. Since she never even showed signs of having an Element while growing up, Mikono feels small next to Cayenne to the point she gets upset when her classmates simply bring her brother up.
* SympathyForTheDevil: For Kagura. She compares him to a stray dog and believes that he's just really lonely. These feelings are replaced with fear as he continues to grow more and more {{Yandere}} for her. But after Kagura kidnaps her in Episode 15, and she figures out that he actually means the opposite of what he says, she regains her sympathy for him.
* TalkingInYourSleep: While unconscious in Episode 6, she mumbles about apologizing to Kagura; when she comes to her senses, she claims she can't remember and doesn't know why.
* TarotMotifs: She's associated with the ''Ace of Hearts''.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: When she first arrives at Neo DEAVA, she comes off as rather antisocial and withdrawn out of envy of other girls, all of which are Element Users. This changes after reuniting with Amata where she becomes more cheerful and approachable to her classmates. When she finally discovers her powers, she fully breaks out of her shell.
* {{Tsundere}}: Sweet type. She is an all-around NiceGirl to everyone, but her tsun-tsun could manifest whenever Amata started floating around in the presence of another girl (mostly courtesy of [[TheTease Zessica]]).
* TwiceShy: Mikono and Amata clearly are attracted to each other, but neither one is brave enough to make the first move so they don't get together until the final episode.
* TheUnfavourite: In episode 18, Mikono receives a letter from her father. As she reads the letter, she figures out that it wasn't for her; it was for her brother. And the letter makes clear her father's only concern is that Mikono isn't being too much of a burden to her brother.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Amata. They feel attracted to each other from their first meeting, but both suck at communicating their feelings. Several misunderstanding and conflicts with love rivals keep them from getting together until the series is over.
* UptownGirl: An {{Ojou}} who has feelings for the UnluckyEverydude Amata.

[[folder:Kagura Demuri]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KoukiUchiyama (Japanese), Creator/TaliesinJaffe (English)
[[quoteright:204:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kagura_demuri.png]]

One of Izumo's two main subordinates and a hot-blooded warrior who loves charging into battle headlong with Mithra Gnis, a machine suited for melee combat and Kagura's tendency to move around like a quadrupedal beast. He gains the ability of "Reversal".

Late in the series he pilots the original Solar Aquarion, still golden as when it was last seen. In ''Aquarion Love'', he is the sole pilot of Aquarion EVOL.
----
* {{Animorphism}}: He can change to a black wolf from time to time. On episode 11, [[spoiler:after Mykage awakes his [[FakeMemories (fake)]] GeneticMemory, it gains [[GlowingEyesOfDoom red eyes]] and matching fur.]]
* AttackAttackAttack: He never retreats from battle until he wins, even when it's clear that he's on disadvantage. Most of the times he gets whisked away by Mykage at the last moment.
* AttackReflector: [[spoiler:Has gained the power to reverse, which allowed him to reflect Amata's Mugen Punch.]]
* BadIsGoodAndGoodIsBad: It seems he says and hears the reverse of things in regards to Mikono, as the more he craves for her, the more he insults and threatens her, much to her horror, until she learns the true meaning behind his seemingly harsh words.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: Mykage abused him mentally, physically, and emotionally way back since childhood [[spoiler:from the moment Mykage split him from his other half Amata. Made worse by the fact that he finds it pretty normal, or at least is used to his torturing. One can only imagine how much Mykage has screwed him up.]] Confirmed by WordOfGod, [[spoiler:even after he unwillingly killed his father Izumo, he still didn't grieved over it.]] [[WordOfGod Yamamoto]] said that being raised by Mykage made Kagura a twisted person.
* BettyAndVeronica: The dangerous and possessive Veronica to Amata's mild and insecure Betty. Kagura is a {{Yandere}} who is obsessed with Mikono because he can smell she's his "Sylvie" and tries to take her from Amata by force several times. Mikono is scared of Kagura's violent nature, but also can't help to find him attractive in a TroubledButCute way. [[spoiler:However, in the end, Kagura loses to Amata and takes it better than expected.]]
* BloodKnight: He'll do ''anything'' to stay in battle, even disobey orders.
-->'''Altair soldier:''' Please return, Master Kagura. This battle is meaningless.\\
'''Kagura:''' The only one who decides if it has meaning or not is me!
* BlowYouAway: His Mithra Gnis can create a tornado around its battle-axe, although he's only shown doing so twice.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Episode 24 shows that Mykage can influence his actions, hence why he suddenly deals the killing blow to Izumo instead of sitting around in confusion.]]
* CombatPragmatist: Episode 2 has him stealing a leg from another Gnis to replace the one that Mithra lost.
* ConvenientComa: [[spoiler:Mykage can do this to him by humming ''Sousei no Aquarion''.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Say what you want about the guy, but he is pretty determined when it comes to getting his "wench".
* EasilyForgiven: [[spoiler:Despite causing Neo-DEAVA an untold amount of trouble throughout the series, Kagura appears to have more-or-less been accepted as one of their members in the epilogue. Granted, ''Sousei no Aquarion Love'' implies that the others aren't particularly fond of him.]]
* EnemyWithout: [[spoiler:He's Amata's "dark side" that was extracted by Mykage at the time Alicia left her son behind.]]
* EnslavedTongue: He ends up insulting and threatening Mikono when he becomes nervous around her, due to his superpower of Reversal making him talk in reverse.
* EntitledToHaveYou:
** He fully believes that he and Mikono are meant to be with each other, no matter what he does. [[spoiler:This thought process is reinforced by Mykage, who manipulated Kagura into thinking that destiny was on his side.]]
** It's to the point where he looks completely bewildered the one time he notices her pushing him away, as if the thought of her not reciprocating his advances legitimately never crossed his mind.
* EvilCounterpart: To Amata. They look somewhat similar and both want Mikono, but in contrast to the heroic Amata who respects Mikono, Kagura is a villain and tries to force his feelings on Mikono. [[spoiler:Near the end, it's revealed Kagura was actually a part of Amata originally until they separated when their mother left them.]]
* EvilRedhead: He has red hair and is one of the main villains of the series.
* ExpyCoexistence: He bears a strong resemblance to Apollo from [[Anime/GenesisOfAquarion the previous series]], down to their heightened sense of smell. [[spoiler:This is because he's one of Apollo's reincarnations.]]
* FakeMemories: As revealed in Episode 18, [[spoiler:Kagura's "memories" of his past life with "Sylvie" as "Apollon" were implanted by Mykage, based on the "Skies of Aquaria".]]
* FangsAreEvil: He's got noticeable fangs, which add to his wolf motif, and he's a ruthless antagonist.
* FashionableAsymmetry: He wears a split top made of two totally different styles of shirt. The right half of his shirt is black with the sleeve extending to the palm of his hand, while the left side is dark grey, the sleeve covers up to his elbow and a white fur trim extends from the front part to his backside. He also wears a black shoulder pad on his right arm that is underneath his clothes. Finally, he wears a single brown glove in his left hand.
* FieryRedhead: He's hot-headed, wild, and violent, all of which is represented by his red hair.
* ForcedToWatch: On episode 8 [[spoiler:Mykage forced him to watch as Jin "violated" Mikono by stripping her clothes using specialized ammo.]]
* FreudianExcuse: Mykage's torturing and abuse made him desperate to find someone that would accept him. This is one of the big reasons why he became so obsessed with Mikono: as the two were reincarnated to fulfill the love of their past lives, he could trust her to give him the acceptance he craved for.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: [[spoiler:''Sousei no Aquarion Love'' implies that the members of Neo-DEAVA consider him more of nuisance than a trusted ally, which is unsurprising given his rude attitude and lack of respect towards authority.]]
* FurAndLoathing: He's one of the most prominent enemies in the anime and wears a fur-lined top.
* GracefulLoser: [[spoiler:The final episode shows Kagura realizing that Amata's love for the present Mikono is far stronger than his own love for "Sylvie." This allows him to graciously give up on Mikono and give Amata the final push he needs to rescue her.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:The final episode has him team up with Amata and Zessica to save Mikono from Mykage. And with him accepting his loss to Amata and joining Neo-DEAVA, it's clear that he's no longer a villain.]]
* HotBlooded: He's loud, rowdy, and shamelessly charges into battle.
* InTheBlood: [[spoiler:Both he and his father Izumo thought of abandoning Altair for the sake of a woman. Unlike Izumo, however, Kagura actually went through with the idea.]]
* LeeroyJenkins: As time goes on, his recklessness becomes an increasing liability to Izumo's plans, not to mention all the collateral damage he does whenever he's near his "smelly wench." So much so he had to be reined in by Mykage (and is literally caged) after losing to Aquarion for the second time. [[spoiler:Fortunately for Mykage, [[ManipulativeBastard he found a way to use Kagura's unpredictability in his favor]].]]
** By episode 23 [[spoiler:he rebels against Izumo when all of Altair tries to get Mikono to revive their planet. Even Izumo says that he no longer has the right to call himself a citizen of Altair.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: Has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcUD6WADzv4 "Beast Beat"]], "Kagura's Wasteland" and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euKKKeue-s8&feature=plcp "Fragments of Eve"]].
* LetsYouAndHimFight: [[spoiler:''Sousei no Aquarion Love'' has him and Apollo start fighting not even a minute after meeting each other for no reason other than they can't stand the other's scent.]]
* LiteralSplitPersonality: [[spoiler:He's the "dark side" of Amata split by Mykage when the latter was a kid, who rewrote his memories and renamed him "Kagura".]]
* LovableSexManiac: If you take that "kill" is the opposite of sexual reproduction, he falls into this. Starting from episode 11 he never stops talking about how badly he wants to "kill" Mikono and how he's going to kill her over and over again. Ironically, when he actually gets some alone time with her, he displays shy hesitation over "killing" her "in a place like this," much to her confusion.
* LoveHungry: Revealed to be what drives ''all'' of his actions. [[spoiler:Being tortured and controlled by Mykage made him desperate to be accepted by someone, with Mikono being the one person he thinks can give him what he wants.]]
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: He was already determined to obtain Mikono, but his recent torture at the hands of [[ManipulativeBastard Mykage's]] turned the psychosis up a notch.
* LovingAShadow: [[spoiler:Even though he was attracted to Mikono's smell right from the start, getting FakeMemories of "Apollon and Sylvie" from Mykage has caused him to chase after Mikono simply on the basis of their supposed past lives. At the end of the series, he hears Amata proclaim that he loves Mikono for being Mikono instead of the reincarnation of someone he never met. This makes Kagura realize that his feelings are superficial compared to Amata's and lets Mikono be with the man who can love her current self.]]
* LuminescentBlush: His cheeks turn bright pink around Mikono in Episode 15.
* MomentKiller: Is a constant offender of this towards Amata/Mikono moments, specifically in Episode 5 and [[spoiler:Episode 12]].
* MoreThanMindControl: To the point that all of his actions that he attempts to do to get his "smelly wench" are all part of Mykage's plan.
* MrFanservice: He's considered quite attractive by girls in-universe, and his outfit exposes part of his chest.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Kagra was apparently willing to let Amata off the hook if the latter "stayed out of his and Mikono's way." Amata, obviously, was never going to take that option, so Kagura spends all of their further interactions trying to kill his rival.
* MyGreatestFailure: In the manga, [[spoiler:he seems to feel regret over leaving Silvia behind during his days as Apollo. [[TheAtoner Trying to make up for it this time]] may possibly factor into his motivation here.]]
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: [[spoiler:In ''Sousei no Aquarion Love'', he and Apollo almost instantly dislike each other, and start fighting in their respective Aquarions (Kagura in Evol and Apollo in Solar).]]
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler:Gives quite the beating to Amata on episode 15 while attempting to kill him.]]
* TheNoseKnows: An important point in his character, [[spoiler:since he recognized Silvia's reincarnation by her smell.]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: He doesn't seem to get how uncomfortable he makes Mikono by suddenly holding her in his arms and smelling her.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: He'd rather [[VillainousCrush chase after his "smelly wench" Mikono]] than [[spoiler:join the hunt for the "New Eve."]]
* OneManArmy: He was already powerful in Episode 1 where he thrashed two Aquarias [[CurbStompBattle like they were nothing]]. [[spoiler:In Episode 11, he took down several of Altair's machines, wreaking havoc across Ianthe (capital of Altair) unless Izumo reopens the gate to Vega. Altair had to fire their WaveMotionGun ''thrice'' and [[BulletHell pepper him]] with a BeamSpam [[TheresNoKillLikeOverkill until he goes down]]... only for him to rise back and, with Mykage's aid, manage to teleport to Vega, where he defeats Amata's Aquarion Evol, and has to be defeated by a double-Aquarion teamup (Gepard of Jin/Yunoha, Cayenne and Zessica, and Spada of Shrade, Amata and Mikono).]]
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:While he was initially willing to follow Zessica's request to kill her in order to defeat Mykage, he ultimately decides that Zessica's life wasn't so worthless that she deserved to die for somebody like Amata.]]
* PersonalityPowers: Inverted. His new found Reversal abilities changes his own personality. Shown in his encounter with Mikono in Episode 13, he now says the opposite of what he really feels.
* PerpetualFrowner: He tends to scowl whenever he's not [[SlasherSmile in battle]] or [[LuminescentBlush when around Mikono]].
%%* PrimalStance
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He can turn into a vicious wolf form that has red eyes.
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the HotBlooded, aggressive Red Oni to Amata's calmer, passive Blue Oni. He also has this contrast with the introverted Jin.
* ScarilyCompetentTracker: His superhuman sense of smell makes it nigh impossible to hide from him.
* ShockAndAwe: His axe can generate lightning around the blade.
* SelfMadeOrphan: [[spoiler:Unintentionally in the anime, as Mykage [[DemonicPossession in Zessica's]] body controlled Kagura into killing his father Izumo. He didn't have anything to do with it in the manga though, as there Mykage killed both of Kagura's parents himself.]]
* StalkerShrine:
** Kind of a digital one. On episode 11 [[spoiler:while he screams "MY SYLVIE" the inside of his Mithra Gnis displays tons of pictures of Mikono, all of them varying in colors as they all form a big collage of Mikono's face.]]
** Later there's a more non-romantic example with [[spoiler:Alicia. On Vega, when Amata enters his room, where also Kagura was staying, he finds a wall full of pictures of Alicia (Kagura didn't knew Alicia was his mother).]]
* StalkerWithACrush: He wants Mikono, and he sees nothing wrong with literally chasing after her at any opportunity.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: He has golden eyes and he's [[spoiler:Amata's EnemyWithout and part of Apollo's reincarnation]].
* SuperpowerLottery: In a world where powers range from flying to filling holes, he can [[spoiler:reverse ANYTHING.]] Think of the possibilities here.
* TarotMotifs: Is associated with the ''Black Joker''.
* TookALevelInKindness: [[spoiler:By the end of the show, he's become capable of putting other people before himself, a far cry from how he was portrayed before..]]
* TheUnfavourite: [[spoiler: When compared to his other half Amata. His parents never even stopped by to visit him before passing on. And even on her deathbed, Alicia never looked like she cared about him....]]
* UnwittingPawn: His [[{{Yandere}} murderous obsession for Mikono]] makes him Mykage's perfect lapdog.
* VillainousCrush: His motivation for much of the series revolves around getting together with Mikono, driving him to repeatedly trying to steal her from Amata.
* VitriolicBestBuds: [[spoiler:With Zessica by the end of the series. He's got a rude nickname for her, but shows a surprising amount of care for her. In ''Sousei no Aquarion Love'', he even tries to avenge her defeat at the hands of Apollo.]]
* WildCard: He has no loyalty to Altair and mostly acts on a whim. All he really cares about is Mikono, so it doesn't matter to him if he causes trouble for the heroes or the other villains to get his way.
* WildChild: At first, he looks like one, but [[spoiler:is not, really. Is very implied that Mykage raised him and he never grew out alone in the wild as a kid, since most of the time Mykage kept him in a cage. Even more subverted since he shares Amata's memories of living in Vega until the moment Mykage separated them.]]
* {{Yandere}}: For Mikono. He ''does not'' react well towards anyone that stands between him and getting his "wench."
-->It stinks. I want to kill that wench. I want to kill her, then take her in my arms... and crush her! My... Sylvie!
* YellowEyesOfSneakiness: He has yellow eyes and he's a violent and ruthless {{Yandere}}.

[[folder:Zessica Wong]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanaHanazawa (Japanese), Creator/CaitlinGlass (English)
[[quoteright:167:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zessica_wong.png]]

A girl from Neo DEAVA who would like engaging with the opposite sex more. Showing no inhibition about cross-gender Unions (earning her MIX and Suomi's scolding), she also started taking interest in Amata, going so far as to tease him just to see him float around, much to Mikono's jealousy.

She is the second most frequent user of Aquarion Gepard, though she's more famous for her one-time use of Aquarion Spada.
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:In episode 16, she confesses her feelings to Amata in the middle of an emotional outburst. Her timing couldn't be worse because they're inside the Aquarion and her romantic feelings cause it to go berserk.]]
* BadassInDistress: After [[spoiler:Mykage unwillingly possesses her.]]
* BettyAndVeronica: The flirtatious and provocatively dressed Veronica to Mikono's well-mannered and demure Betty. She loses.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: In the manga, [[spoiler:this happens to her instead of MIX; in her case, she more or less becomes Mykage's bodyguard, seemingly without her previous memories.]]
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: Ever since she started developing genuine feelings for Amata, her previously flirty attitude towards him ceased to exist.
* ChangingYourselfForLove: In episode 17, she changes her revealing outfit for a white minidress with a style similar to Mikono's in an attempt to attract Amata's attention. It doesn't work.
* ChekhovsGun: Her preference for {{Stripperiffic}} clothing ''becomes'' a key to defeating Jin's Radius Gnis in Episode 8: while being hit with missiles that destroy her, Amata's, and Mikono's Vector suits, Zessica realizes that the less clothing she has, the more sensitive she becomes to the missiles, allowing her to dodge them effortlessly. She starts tearing off more of her suit and encourages Amata and Mikono to do the same while she tears down Radius Gnis with Aquarion Spada.
* CleavageWindow: Her top has a gap on the center of the front that shows her breast cleavage.
* CuteLittleFangs: One of her fangs sticks out sometimes to match her teasing personality.
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:A forced one by the Mykage in episode 19.]]
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Courtesy of Mykage, natch.]]
* EmotionalPowers: Apparently, her powers are connected to her frustration. In Episode 12, she accidentally crushes a pole with her powers after she gets jealous over seeing Amata fly for Mikono.
* GenderBender: [[spoiler:She gets turned into a man instead of MIX in the manga.]]
* GenkiGirl: She's shown to be an energetic and outspoken young lady...for the first 8 episodes. Then she realizes her feelings for Amata, and suddenly she's spending most of her downtime sulking.
* HandBlast: Episode 2 has her team up with Amata to have Evol create a hand-shaped energy blast.
* HeadTurningBeauty: Her revealing dressing style inevitably attracts lots of male attention.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Attempts this in episode 18, but MIX is taken away instead. Tries again in episode 21 and survives again. Tries one more time in the finale, asking Kagura to kill her. He refuses.]]
* HopelessSuitor: She knows Amata isn't romantically interested in her and only sees her as a friend because he's in love with Mikono.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler:At the end, she's finally able to accept Amata and Mikono as a couple.]]
* JealousRomanticWitness: It just so happens that every time Amata and Mikono have a moment together, Zessica is always there to witness it and wish she could be in Mikono's place.
* LeeroyJenkins: {{Deconstructed}}. In episode 18, her hot-headed and rushed decisions gets [[spoiler:Mix kidnapped.]]
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The shameless, flirty Dark Feminine to Mikono's soft-spoken, polite Light Feminine.
* LoveEpiphany: After getting a glimpse of Amata's exposed body near the end of Episode 8, she comes to realize that she's seriously attracted to him.
* LoveHurts: At first, she only likes to tease Amata, but ends up falling for him. Him only having eyes for Mikono becomes a massive source of angst for Zessica for pretty much the rest of the series.
* MindOverMatter: Her Element power involves telekinesis, usually to twist objects (such as light pole behind her).
* MsFanservice: She's a busty girl who walks around in a tank-top that barely hides her breasts and a pair of ridiculously short shorts.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:She confesses her unrequited love for Amata while they are in the Aquarion, causing it to go berserk.]]
* NoDressCode: She gets away with going around the academy with very little clothes on.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Unlike most of the other major characters, the audience never really learns anything about her for the entirety of the show; she's defined by her role as a HopelessSuitor for Amata who angsts about how she never stood a chance in winning his heart.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: Her top is backless except for black straps that form an X around her back.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She has no problem walking around in an outfit that leaves so little to the imagination.
* ShipperWithAnAgenda: She wants to believe that Kagura and Mikono are destined for each other [[spoiler:because they are the reincarnations of Apollon and Sylvie]]. She clings on to this because it gives her a tiny hope that Mikono won't choose Amata in the end, which would give Zessica a chance to be with him.
* ShowerOfAngst: In episode 18, she takes a depressing shower when having one of her many LoveHurts episodes.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Episode 5 has Zessica claim that she likes innocent guys like Amata.
* SobriquetSexSwitch: In the manga, [[spoiler:she gets turned into a boy instead of MIX and goes from Zessica to being called ZEXY.]]
* StepfordSmiler: As times goes on, she forces herself to try and stay cheerful as her jealousy and sadness over Amata loving Mikono only eats her up.
* {{Stripperific}}: As pointed out by MIX, Zessica's default outfit covers little more than underwear.
* TarotMotifs: Is associated with the ''Ace of Diamonds''.
* TheTease: She initially enjoyed flirting with Amata because him unintentionally flying whenever he gets flustered was a source of great amusement for her; Episode 5 even has her pulling his arm into her cleavage to see it happen. Of course, this part of her all but disappears after Episode 8.
* ThanksForTheMammary: She ends up having her boob groped by [[spoiler:an Altair local]] in episode 19. [[spoiler:Strangely it wasn't done out of perversion, but curiosity - the locals of Altair have not seen a living female in ages and thus don't know what breasts are.]]
* {{Underboobs}}: In episode 17, she changes her skimpy outfit for a dress that is much more modest in general, except for a cut on her top that exposes the undersides of her breasts.
* UnrequitedLoveLastsForever: Invoked in Episode 17, where she claims that she'll continue loving Amata despite knowing that he doesn't feel the same way. It only ends up causing her more misery as the series continued.
* VaporWear: She wears a skimpy tank-top and shorts with a side opening bound together by laces which show that she doesn't wear underwear at all.
* VitriolicBestBuds: If the last episode, as well as ''Aquarion Love'', are anything to go by, she seems to have formed something like this with [[spoiler:Kagura]], of all people.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler:In the ''[[CrisisCrossover Sousei no Aquarion Love]]'', she is knocked unconscious following a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown from an AxCrazy Apollo, and she is promptly switched with Amata using Element Change. We don't see her afterwards in the OVA.]]
* WhatIsThisFeeling: Started feeling embarrassment at the end of Episode 8 over seeing Amata half-naked after all three stripped off their Vector suits to allow them to defeat Radius Gnis.
* WhatsHeGotThatIAintGot: She frequently questions what's that Mikono has that makes Amata choose her over her.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's terrified of ghosts.

!!Neo DEAVA

[[folder:Cayenne Suzushiro]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KenichiSuzumura (Japanese), Creator/JasonLiebrecht (English)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cayenne_suzushiro.png]]

Mikono's older brother and a ChickMagnet (though to a lesser extent than Shrade). His power is psychic vision through a red point of light emanating from his forehead (like a ThirdEye of sorts).

He is the most frequent pilot of Aquarion Gepard.
----
%%* TheAce: He's considered the second best among the Element boys, beaten only by Shrade. And since Shrade can't participate in combat for very long, Cayenne is effectively the top Element most of the time.
* AloofBigBrother: He cares for Mikono and thinks he must protect her, but there's poor emotional connection and communication between the siblings because of Mikono's insecurities about her apparent lack of an Element power and Cayenne looking down on her because of it. Their relationship improves a bit later as Cayenne realizes Mikono isn't the defenseless little girl who couldn't do anything by herself anymore.
* BigBrotherInstinct: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}: he's been quite protective of his little sister Mikono since they were kids, but unfortunately, it took him years to realize that she can actually stand on her own feet now and no longer ''needs'' his protection.
* BlessedWithSuck: His Element ability of prophecy allows him to become an excellent sniper. However, he is also haunted by visions of Mikono perishing through a chain of events apparently linked to the Aquarion, and thus he tries his best to keep Mikono safe, even if he has to demoralize her to accomplish it.
* ChickMagnet: He's popular among the girls of the academy.
* CoatCape: He has a navy coat, which he wears like a cape.
* ColdSniper: Played with; he's a long-ranged specialist, and he tries to maintain a cold and distant attitude. However, it doesn't take that much to set him off.
* CombatClairvoyance: After the "Special Training of the Grave," Cayenne's precognition Element has been enhanced into "Instant Prophecy"; he is now capable of triggering visions on purpose just a moment into the future. In the mock battle against Amata, he is shown using this combined with Aquarion Gepard's weapon targeting system to fire right where the target is about to move. However, this ability isn't perfect as it wasn't able to detect Aquarion Evol's "Super Dimensional Infinity Punch" until it was too late.
* CondescendingCompassion: In the first 4 episodes, he felt responsible for protecting Mikono because he still views her as his cowardly and useless little sister who never developed her own Element. Thankfully, he got better.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Ever since they were kids, he wanted to protect his sister Mikono.
%%* TheEmpath
* HeterosexualLifePartners: While he initially acted prickly towards Shrade, the powerful bond they develop ends up becoming their most prominent relationship.
* HotBlooded: Try as he might to be a ColdSniper, it's not long before he's shouting with the best of them.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: In the first episode alone, he even performs target practice ''blindfolded''.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be downright mean at times, even towards to his own sister, but it's clear that he wants to protect the people important in his life. And to his credit, he does soften up a bit.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: His protectiveness towards his little sister leads him to destroy her self-esteem to make sure she doesn't get herself into dangerous situations.
* ManlyTears: Sheds these in Episode 23 after [[spoiler:Shrade [[KilledOffForReal dies for good on his fourth sortie]]]].
* MySisterIsOffLimits: He makes clear he doesn't like Amata due to the latter's super-obvious crush on his sister.
* NobleMaleRoguishMale: Roguish Male to Shrade's Noble Male.
* PerpetualFrowner: His default expression is a stern, angry frown.
* ProperlyParanoid: [[spoiler:He was right to find Jin suspicious, as the latter was a spy.]]
* PsychicPowers: His Element power usually takes of the form of {{Precognition}} towards bad events.
* RedOniBlueOni: The fiery red to Shrade's cool blue.
* SayMyName: '''Mikono!!!'''
* {{Tsundere}}: A male Harsh type. He's frequently abrasive towards everybody (especially Amata), but occasionally shows a softer, protective side towards Mikono, and as a few episodes show, is also starting to defrost to Shrade.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Due to his visions of Mikono's death related to the Aquarion, he tries his best to keep her away from anything related to it--by having to lower her self-esteem a few notches.

[[folder:Andy W. Hole]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KosukeToriumi (Japanese), Creator/JessieJamesGrelle (English)
[[quoteright:216:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andy_w_hole.png]]

Andy can find any weak point in any structure and has control over the power of the earth. Out of all the boys of Neo DEAVA, he is the most eager to make contact with girls.
----
* AttackItsWeakPoint: He creates tunnels by finding the weakpoint in the structure of the material and crumbling it down into a hole.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With MIX. They butt heads whenever they're together, but become attracted to each other over time.
* BetaCouple: As Amata's BromanticFoil, Andy has a growing romantic relationship of his own with MIX while Amata must deal with the love square mess.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Saves Amata and Mikono from Kagura in Episode 13 by creating a hole beneath the latter's feet.]]
* BromanticFoil: He's the openly perverted and easygoing male friend who directly contrasts the meek and insecure Amata.
* ButtMonkey: His misfortune is a frequent source of comedy.
* ChivalrousPervert: He was the most perverse of the male cast, but it's also clear that he cares about the girls as people at the same time. [[spoiler:In fact, he declares in the end that he'd love Mix even if she remained a man, though fortunately for him, she returned to being female by the end.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: He has has brown hair and light brown eyes.
* DemotedToExtra: In the manga, he loses any focus he got in the anime, not even getting any hints of a relationship with MIX. Perhaps because of this, he even got his first co-ed merge (see below) with no issue.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: [[spoiler:Despite the Curse of Eve turning MIX into a boy, Andy ultimately decides that he loves her no matter what her gender is.]]
* LargeHam: There's rarely a time where he's not ChewingTheScenery.
* MysteriousMiddleInitial: It's never revealed what the "W" in his name stands for.
* NamedAfterSomeoneFamous: Aside from having a [[MeaningfulName meaningful]] and PunnyName, his is a few letters away from Creator/AndyWarhol's.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:He and MIX finally become true lovers at the end of the final episode.]]
* OppositesAttract: Andy, who is laidback and, at first, perverted, falls for the overly serious man-hater MIX. Even their powers are opposites (Andy makes holes, MIX seals holes).
* RedOniBlueOni: The extraverted Red to Amata's timid Blue.
* RunningGag: The anime frequently denies him the chance to make cross-gender merges. He even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] on his misfortune when he had to be swapped for Amata in making a union with Zessica and [[spoiler:Shrade.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The manly man to Amata's sensitive guy.
* SeriousBusiness: [[MundaneMadeAwesome Tunneling]]
* ShipperOnDeck: Supports Amata in his pursuit to dig a hole Mikono's heart.
* SuperpowerMeltdown: [[spoiler:After his rejection by Mix in the beach episode, he became unstable getting depressed thinking of her would cause him to tunnel immediately beneath himself whenever he thought about it. This went FromBadToWorse when he discovers MIX's fate due to the Curse of Eve.]]
* TunnelKing: He is ''very'' good at digging holes, which extends to rapidly burrowing through the earth.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: [[spoiler:After being snapped out of the brainwashing, MIX is appalled by her transformation into a boy and thinks Andy must be disgusted at her changed body. Andy then makes clear he isn't bothered by it and is just happy to have MIX back regardless of her physical sex.]]
* UnrealisticBlackHole: The ultimate evolution of his "digging" power is the ability to dig a "black hole" between dimensions, opening trans-dimensional gates entirely on his own.
* UnusualEuphemism: "Big bangs" to MIX's large breasts.
* YankTheDogsChain: In Episode 9, just when he finally has a chance to form a cross-gender Union (with MIX and Mikono), he ended up having to cover MIX from {{mook|s}} fire, knocking him unconscious and being forced to switch out of the Vector-X for Amata. But hey, at least he felt the orgasmic ecstasy of a Union ''twice'' (in "spirit" for the second one, at least).
** In the manga, however, he gets his first co-ed merge with Yunoha [[spoiler:and Jin]]. Presumably, him getting DemotedToExtra meant that this RunningGag wasn't worth keeping.

[[folder:MIX]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyumiFujimura (Japanese), Creator/AlexisTipton (English)
[[quoteright:171:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mix_aquarion.png]]

MIX starts off as a strict, serious girl. Her power was creating enclosures and covering up any weak spots.

In the series, she is the only other person to pilot Aquarion EVOL besides Amata.
----
* BarrierWarrior: She uses her powers to clog three enemy Abductors' weapons and propulsion systems.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Andy. They butt heads because of their clashing personalities, yet they end up developing feelings for each other.
* BetaCouple: She gradually forms a romantic relationship with Amata's BromanticFoil Andy. It was slow to develop because of their BelligerentSexualTension, but they still have it easy compared to the main love square mixed with complicated ReincarnationRomance stuff.
* BlankWhiteEyes: Sported these on Episode 16 [[spoiler:after hearing Zessica confess to Amata]] and again in Episode 17 after Andy's [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything rather suggestive confession to her]].
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:After being kidnapped by Altair in episode 18, they brainwash her and send her out as an enemy pilot against Aquarion.]]
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has the biggest chest among the main females, and they're a constant target of Andy's ogling. There's a reason he calls them "big bangs" in the Japanese script.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:Altair capture her in episode 18 and then brainwash her in the next episode. Andy finds her and snaps her out of the mind control.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: She starts out as the most unapproachable of Neo DEAVA's girls due to her misandry and is especially disdainful of Andy because of his initial perversion. Starting from Episode 9, she becomes less harsh towards Andy after they're forced to put aside their differences to confront some enemies. She has feelings for Andy in the following episodes.
* DemotedToExtra: In the manga, same deal as Andy. A big deal isn't even made when they eventually do merge (odd given her [[DoesNotLikeMen attitude towards males]]); they were just randomly there for Shrade's (belated) first merge. [[spoiler:Zessica also takes her place in the whole BrainwashedAndCrazy GenderBender subplot.]]
* DoesNotLikeMen: She feels outright disgust for men, especially perverse guys like Andy.
* FieryRedhead: Orange hair for an irritable, no-nonsense {{Tsundere}}.
* FreudianExcuse: Her initial disdain for men and holes stems from her father, a sightseeing magazine writer, abandoning her and her mother in favor of a woman he met at a [[ItMakesSenseInContext hole-in-the-wall bathhouse]].
* GenderBender: [[spoiler:After being kidnapped, Mix is affected by the disease that "wiped out" Altair's women by turning their bodies and minds into those of men. At the end of the final episode, she has returned to being a girl.]]
* HatesTheirParent: Her father left her mother for another woman. Due to this, MIX doesn't even want to talk about her father.
* MidairRepair: Uses her powers to close the bullet holes in the Vector-Z.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:She becomes Andy's girlfriend at the end of the anime.]]
* OppositesAttract: She's strict and prudish, as opposed to Andy who is laidback and perverse. In fact, her power was the diametrical opposite of Andy's. Despite their initial differences, they end up having feelings for each other.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Her usual outfit has dark blue tights and a short skirt. She's also the most stern girl in the cast.
%%* SpecsOfAwesome
* SobriquetSexSwitch: [[spoiler:She gets turned into a boy because of being brought to Altair and calls herself MIXY (as in a combo of MIX and XY).]]
* StrawFeminist: She thought lowly of men, believing them inferior to females in terms of combat potential.
* TarotMotifs: She's associated with the ''Queen of Diamonds''.
* {{Tsundere}}: Initially Harsh type. She develops feelings for Andy while she still treated him like a stupid pervert and was always at odds with him.

[[folder:Shrade Elan]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DaisukeNamikawa (Japanese), Creator/EricVale (English)
[[quoteright:158:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shrade_elan.png]]

Neo DEAVA's smartest and most popular student, whose poor health prevents him from going to active service. His power is using sound to manipulate brainwaves.

He is the most frequent pilot of Aquarion Spada.
----
* TheAce: Mentioned as being the top student at Neo-DEAVA, so good that he isn't even required to participate in training. He's also an incredible piano and violin player. His only drawback is his frail health.
* BackForTheFinale: [[spoiler:His spirit brings his Vector back and gives his power to Cayenne to help him against Mykage.]]
* BlessedWithSuck: His Element power caused many of those he knew, including his own parents, to murder each other. This has lead to him being rather... cold toward most of the other characters: he isn't exactly unkind to them, but he doesn't really seem to care much about anything either, with the possible exception of Cayenne.
* CastFromLifespan: Crea theorizes that the Aquarion's tendency to evenly distribute the Elements' powers among each other could be too much for Shrade's weak body (despite his high energy pool) to handle, and could be possibly lethal. [[spoiler:He actually survives his first active sortie, but has to be hospitalized and was given a warning by Crea that the next sortie could become his last.]]
%%* ChickMagnet
* ChildProdigy: He was a musical prodigy as a child.
* CulturedBadass: Not only is he a competent Element User, he also likes adding musical references to his speeches, especially whenever he is the narrator on the "OnTheNext" segments.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:His Element power was, at first, uncontrolled and his piano playing aroused extreme negative emotions within those listening, unintentionally causing his parents to kill each other.]]

* NobleMaleRoguishMale: Noble Male to Cayenne's Roguish Male.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Cayenne's red.

A little girl with the power to turn herself invisible. Until Amata encouraged her to come out of her shell, all that is seen of her is a green frog-like doll she always carries around.
----
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Jin. Both are quiet and socially withdrawn people. Yunoha becomes interested in Jin because he reminds her so much of herself before she started to make friends and tries to bring him out of his shell.
* CovertPervert: She bought a picture of a half-naked Amata.
* CursedWithAwesome: She has great misgivings about her powers, which make many think she's a ghost. Though it turns out to be pretty useful in their second fight against Jin's Radius Gnis, where she can turn the Aquarion invisible and thus impervious to damage, allowing Amata to finish it off with the "Subliminal Punch."
* TheCutie: She's the most adorable and sweetest character of the main cast.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Sings the second ending ''Yunoha no Mori''
* EndearinglyDorky: She dresses her frog plushie as Alicia because Jin is a fan of the actress. Jin finds this to be such an adorably silly gesture that his entire face turns red.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: She always carries around a green frog-like plushie which is, until Episode 7, her only sign of presence.
* GoThroughMe: [[spoiler:Places herself between Jin and Cayenne, who was then armed with a stun gun, in order to protect the former when the latter confronted him about being a spy. The latter's gun fires at that precise moment, only for Jin to place himself in front of Yunoha and, by pure accident, block it with an energy shield.]]
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:Jin's death nearly drove her into becoming a DeathSeeker. She recovers once Jin's spirit and Mikono encourage her to live.]]
* {{Invisibility}}: Her power makes her turn invisible.
* InvisibleIntrovert: Yunoha is a very shy girl with the power to turn invisible. By the start of the show, she's completely withdrawn from socializing with her classmates to the point that she remains invisible at all times, save for the plush frog she carries around. This is to the point that many of her classmates don't even know she exists, or later on believe her to be a ghost. Even when she starts socializing more she has a habit of turning invisible again whenever she's feeling particularly shy.
* MistakenForUndead: Because she can make herself invisible, from others' perspective, all they see is a plushie floating around on its own. This causes an initial misunderstanding of her being a ghost.
* OlderThanSheLooks: As a matter of fact, she's actually fifteen, but looks around twelve. She's a year older than Jin, even though he's much taller than her.
* PersonalityPowers: Her power of [[{{invisibility}} perfect camouflage]] seems well-suited to her [[ShrinkingViolet innate shyness]].
* ProneToTears: She cries easily because of her shyness.
* SecretSecretKeeper: In Episode 12, she discovers that Jin is TheMole thanks to Mykage's interference. Conflicted by his deceit and her growing friendship/relationship with him, she keeps this knowledge from Jin until the next episode.
* ShrinkingViolet: She's terminally shy.
* StarCrossedLovers: With Jin. They start to fall in love shortly after they meet, but they're on enemies sides. [[spoiler:Jin does switch sides because of his feelings for Yunoha, but he's killed immediately afterwards. However, the Director's cut reveals his soul now inhabits Yunoha's plushie so he can be with her always in some way.]]
* TenderTears: The sight of her in tears is enough to [[spoiler:make Jin start wavering over his original goal of personally capturing a "Rare Igura" worthy of becoming Altair's "Eve." Come Episode 13, she breaks down crying as Jin dies in front of her.]]
* TokenMiniMoe: She's the shortest and most childlike of the Elemental Users.
* TwiceShy: With Jin. They quickly become attracted to each other, but both are very shy and socially awkward, so they have a hard time just talking and looking at each other in the eye.

----
* AlliterativeName: '''D'''onar '''D'''antes.
* ArtificialLimbs: In the Aquarion Disaster, Donar lost his arms, and they have since been replaced with mechanical prosthetics.
* BadassTransplant: His prosthetic arms can store weapons, such as tasers and bowguns.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Suomi. They get into arguments, but there's signs of attraction between them.
* CharacterTics: Punching his fist into his palm.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He was the main pilot of the Aquarion on the day it went berserk and he lost both his lover and his arms.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: His ArtificialLimbs ache every time something bad is about to happen, [[spoiler:such as Kagura's surprise attack.]]
* PsychicDreamsForEveryone: [[spoiler:Dreamed of Mykage attacking him. The next day he shows up in Neo DEAVA's bridge during Kagura's rampage...]]
* SillyRabbitRomanceIsForKids: Since the Aquarion Disaster in which he lost his arm and girlfriend, Donar supported the idea that girls and boys should not mix, so they don't meet his fate.
* SwissArmyAppendage: A variation. He can only equip one attachment at a time beneath his prosthetic hands, but one scene shows he has a veritable armory of possible attachments in his quarters.
* YouRemindMeOfX: Donar sees similarities to his younger self in Amata, and he seems to have a personal interest in Amata's training possibly because of this.

----
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Donar. Suomi has hints of misandry and can be sometimes seen in mild arguments with Donar, but there's hints of attraction between them.
* CovertPervert: In Episode 8, while watching Mikono's spirit levels rapidly rising due to embarrassment over Amata seeing her half-naked, she describes to Donar the excitement of being stared at while half-naked.
* HiddenBuxom: She appears to have a rather modest figure in her usual nun-like outfit, but in the BeachEpisode, her swimsuit reveals she has a fairly big bust.
* HotTeacher: She's an attractive woman dressed like a nun and runs Neo-DEAVA's female academy. In the BeachEpisode, the male students think she looks hot in a swimsuit.
* NunTooHoly: For someone who dresses as a nun, she often makes comments that imply she's got a sensual side. Of course, given that Christianity doesn't exist in ''Aquarion'', who knows whether she has any vows of chastity connected with her religion.
* SecondLove: Donar hasn't wanted to get involved in a romance ever since he lost his girlfriend Nanaon, but the ending implies he might start a new relationship Suomi.

* EyepatchOfPower: He's the supreme commander of Neo-DEAVA and wears an eyepatch.

!!Altair

[[folder:Izumo Kamurogi]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HirokiYasumoto (Japanese), Creator/MikeMcFarland (English)
[[quoteright:216:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izumo_kamurogi.png]]

Supreme Commander of Altair. He has his men cross through dimensions to Vega in an attempt to save their world.

He pilots the Ahura Gnis.
----
* AntiVillain: He had good intentions from the start, but one wonders why his first actions was ''kidnapping'' people rather than, say, peacefully contacting Vega and asking for their help.
* CatchAndReturn: His mech's primary ability is to absorb the attacks of others and return them twofold.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Wears darker clothing, sports the traditional evil goatee, and intimidating-looking, but otherwise Izumo is a reasonable enemy commander [[WellIntentionedExtremist with noble intentions]]. This stands in stark contrast to [[LightIsNotGood Mykage]], whose angelic appearance [[spoiler:[[FauxAffablyEvil masks his selfish desires]].]]
* DisappearedDad: [[spoiler:He's Amata's father, but played absolutely no part in raising him and Amata had no idea of their connection before the reveal.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:Chews out Mykage thrice -- on Episode 8, for manipulating three of Jin's most loyal henchmen into becoming his pawns; on Episode 11, over allowing the crazed Kagura to go to Vega to get his "smelly wench"; and on Episode 14, over killing Jin and then ''[[RefugeInAudacity holding a eulogy for him]]'' before the rest of Altair.]]
-->[[spoiler:[[MyGreatestFailure Jin, what I... no, what Altair has done can never be forgiven.]]]]
* EvilCounterpart: An [[AntiVillain Anti-Villainous]] variant, to Zen.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:At the hands of a mind controlled Kagura in the anime. In the manga, however, Mykage kills him.]]
* LightIsGood: His Ahura Gnis has a light-themed design and is named after Ahura Mazda, Zoroastrian god of light.
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler:He's revealed to be Amata's father.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:Allowing Mykage to manipulate Altair and kill Jin for refusing to go along with his schemes.]]
* OffingTheOffspring: Attempted in episodes 23 and 24 of the anime. [[spoiler:Though unlike Alicia he had no way of knowing that Kagura is his son. In the manga, however, Izumo and Kagura never had such a confrontation.]]
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: He turns out to be an extremely skilled Gnis pilot, to the point that even Kagura, after all his powerups, can barely match him in combat.
%%* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:Towards the end of the series, Izumo and Alicia die. They go to the afterlife together after saying goodbye to their son.]]
* UnusualEyebrows: His eyebrows are kinked at the ends.
* WaveMotionGun: [[spoiler:His ''Altair Cannon'' attack that is powered by all of Altair itself through the Ianthe.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:Tells Jin that their mission wasn't to invade Vega, but to find suitable females to repopulate their race whose female population largely died out due to a mysterious disease, rendering Altair virtually sterile.]]

[[folder:Jin Muso]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JunFukushima (Japanese), Creator/ToddHaberkorn (English)
[[quoteright:188:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jin_musou.png]]

Izumo's other subordinate and a cunning strategist. Unlike the hot-headed Kagura, Jin prefers manipulating Abductor {{Mook}}s from high up in space or puppet-controlling Radius Gnis, a machine suited for long-range combat which complements his natural ability to generate energy shields.
----
* AccidentalPervert: In Episode 10, he finally does what Andy has yet to -- infiltrate the girls' changing room (although unintentionally on his part).
* AlwaysWithYou: The Director's cut reveals that [[spoiler:after dying his soul entered Yunoha's plushie, allowing him to be with her again.]]
* BarrierWarrior: His Element power allows him to create energy barriers.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Yunoha. They're two quiet and socially withdrawn people who quickly feel drawn to each other.
* AChildShallLeadThem: He serves as Izumo's [[TheDragon dragon]] and has at least three direct subordinates, despite being literally the youngest person on Altair.
* DefectingForLove: [[spoiler:He switches sides out of love for Yunoha.]]
* DieOrFly: When Yunoha is almost shot when defending Jin, Jin's Element powers awaken and form a barrier to protect Yunoha and himself.
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler:Seemingly KilledOffForReal at the end of Episode 8, but Episode 9 reveals that he survived and has infiltrated Neo DEAVA in Episode 10. [[KilledOffForReal Averted in Episode 13]].]]
* TheDragon: Thanks to Kagura being too much of a WildCard, Jin acts as Izumo's more controlled and obedient subordinate.
* EvilGenius: Besides being a pilot, he also serves as mechanic for Mithra and Radius Gnis.
* {{Fanboy}}: He's a fan of singer and actress Alicia/Sylvie. He has an idealized vision of women because of this and doesn't understand why the women at Neo DEAVA are nothing like his idol.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:In Episode 13, he turns against Altair for Yunoha's sake. Unfortunately Mykage saw to it that [[RedemptionEqualsDeath he will have to pay for his defection with his life]].]]
* HidingBehindYourBangs: His eyes are almost always covered by his hair. He's an antisocial loner and his unfamiliarity with women really shows in his awkward interaction with the girls.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Zen claims the Radius Gnis can shoot an arrow through a coin a thousand villages away. Jin himself can accurately shoot targets from the moon and perform perfect trick shots using lasers and reflective orbs to attack an enemy from numerous angles at once.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:He gets killed in Episode 13 and never comes back in any form.]]
* LastOfHisKind: He is so far the last person born in Altair.
* LoveRedeems: [[spoiler:He betrays Altair after falling in love with Yunoha.]]
* MagicTool: His device, which contains a hologram of Alicia.
* MarionetteMaster: Prefers controlling Abductor {{Mook}}s from high up in space. When he has to send out Radius Gnis, he either controls it from the comfort of his room (in Episode 7) or pilots it by himself (Episodes 4 and 8).
* TheMole: As of Episode 10, he poses as a NewTransferStudent to Neo DEAVA (stealing the identity of one "Akbarjin Batbayar") in his own quest to find a Reaigler worthy of becoming Altair's "Eve."
* NoSocialSkills: During his time at Neo DEAVA, he shows himself as awkward and antisocial because he has never been at a school before. He especially has no idea of how to act around women because there's only men in Altair.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: Like Kagura, he'd rather spend time listening to holographic recordings of Alicia than join Altair's abductions. But since he's the LastOfHisKind, Altair has huge expectations of him.
* OneHeadTaller: He's taller than Yunoha by a full head.
* PersonalityPowers: His Element power generates barriers as a manifestation of his wish to be left alone.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:He switches sides and helps Neo DEAVA protect the academy and defeat Kagura, but is killed by Mykage as a punishment.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: The quiet, introverted Blue Oni to Kagura's passionate, wild Red Oni.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:He's killed halfway through the series, marking the point in which the overall tone changes from light-hearted to more serious and angsty. His death showed everyone that [[KnightOfCerebus Mykage]] is [[NotSoHarmlessVillain not as harmless as he seems]]. People begin to leave the school [[MatterOfLifeAndDeath fearing for their lives]]. His death also causes a massive HeroicBSOD to come upon all of the major characters.]]
* StarCrossedLovers: With Yunoha.
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler:Ends his third loss to Aquarion baffled at how the latter managed to come back from a serious disadvantage, dodge all his remaining ammo, and knock his Radius Gnis out with an energized punch.]]
* TwiceShy: With Yunoha. They quickly become attracted to each other, but both are very shy and socially awkward, so they have a hard time just talking and looking at each other in the eye.
* YoungerThanHeLooks: He's actually only fourteen, but can easily pass off as a high school student.

* AstralProjection: One of his abilities.
* BigBad: The most dangerous and villainous character.
%%* CampGay
* CombatPragmatist: Perfectly willing to get his hands dirty when things don't go his way or the enemy brings out their most powerful weapon. [[spoiler:As shown when he attacks the place where Alicia is at and kills her in order to distract Izumo to land Genesis Aquarion's FinishingMove.]]

%%* FauxAffablyEvil
%%* GambitRoulette
* GodhoodSeeker: [[spoiler:He'll become a god if Altair and Vega become one.]]
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler:He kills Jin after the latter switches sides out of love for Yunoha.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: His manipulation of Kagura's emotions and [[spoiler:murder of Jin]] causes the series to take on a substantially darker tone.

* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He looks like a handsome man with long feather-like white hair.

%%* ManipulativeBastard

* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: [[spoiler:Doomed to forever reside in Zen's body without any semblance of control over him.
