[[folder:Night Raid]]

! Tropes associated with Night Raid:
* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type III]]. Every member of the Night Raid are genuinely good people at heart but know that in order to change the corrupt state of the empire that they will need to be merciless against anyone that stands in their way.
* BadassCrew: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] that it's a requirement to be a {{Badass}} in order to join the Night Raid since majority of their members are defected soldiers and generals of the Empire.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: They're the most CloudCuckooLander people you'll ever meet. They're also the most dangerous group of skilled assassins and one of most dangerous forces opposing the Empire.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Every member of the Night Raid comes from a painful past that caused them to take up arms against the Empire due to the Prime Minister's machinations.
* DysfunctionJunction: Even with the quite eccentric personalities of each member they all still manage to efficiently work together as an assassination group.
* GoodIsNotSoft: They don't have an option to be given who their [[TheEmpire enemy]] is.
* LaResistance: They're assassins of the revolutionary army tasked to kill certain people in the Empire to weaken the Prime Minister and collect Teigu from fallen soldiers to strengthen their forces.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: The Night Raid explain to Tatsumi that even if they're doing it for the greater good, nothing changes the fact that at the end of the day they are murderers and they will have to continue to be so until the Empire is reformed.
!! Tatsumi
[[quoteleft:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tatsumi_tropes_9192.jpg]]

The main character of the story who came to the Capital on the hopes of earning money to send back to his impoverished village. After learning of the corruption of the Empire, he's recruited by Night Raid and begins to help them in killing the wicked. He also manages to steal Esdeath's heart when participating in a fighting tournament sponsored by the Empire.

!!! Tropes associated with Tatsumi

* {{Badass}}: It's a given when you can survive battles against the best assassins and soldiers the empire has to offer.
** BadassAdorable: It's a trait that he's very well known for. Just ask [[VillainousCrush Esdeath]].
** BadassInDistress: Played with. When Esdeath abducts him, she has no intention of hurting him and isn't aware of the fact that he's a member of Night Raid.
** BadassNormal: Could stand up to Teigu users despite having no Teigu.
** EmpoweredBadassNormal: [[spoiler: [[TakeUpMySword Later inherits Braht's Teigu.]]]]
* BreakTheCutie: In the first chapter he loses [[spoiler:both of his childhood friends]] and it just goes down hill from there.
* ButtMonkey: He really can't get a break. He's not as much as [[ChivalrousPervert Rabac]] but he's definitely one when he first joined the Night Raid and he's later had the bad luck of being chosen as [[VillainousCrush Esdeath's lover]].
* CantCatchUp: He quickly proves his worth as a fighter, but intially proves to be outclassed by some of the stronger opponents due to his tactics, while other Night Raiders handle them with ease.
* ChickMagnet: Every girl that Tatsumi comes across he unknowingly manages to win her affection, it's eventually [[LampshadedTrope lampshaded]] by Rabac and Boss [[ObliviousToLove much to his confusion]].
* CombatPragmatist: [[spoiler:In chapter 38, he ends up fighting one of the Rakshasa demons, who he knows is stronger and more skilled than him. How does he beat his opponent? He destroys the building that both of them are in, bringing it down on top of the Rakshasa demon's head.]]
* CountryMouse: He comes from an impoverished village he in the countryside he wishes to save my earning money in the capital.
* CuteBruiser: He's a young boy, but his fighting style involves getting close to the enemy and delivering many swift and powerful attacks.
* DraggedByTheCollar: After collaring him in the arena, she tried to drag Tatsumi off like this. When that failed, she just knocked him out.
* EnemyMine: After Esdeath drags him to the palace in the hopes of inducting him into Jaegers--and to become her lover.
* OnlySaneMan: Occasionally acts as this in the Night Raid.
* NaiveNewcomer: Not stupid but definitely naive to the ways of the empire, at least initially.
* NiceGuy: Kind even to his enemies, [[TooDumbToLive which almost got him killed at number of times]].
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Mine as of chapter 45.]]
* SkilledButNaive: Being someone from the country, he hasn't had quite as much fighting experience as the rest of the Night Raid, causing to attack rather recklessly in some of his battles.
* UnskilledButStrong: He lacks some of the more refined skills of the Night Raiders, but makes up for it for his overall fighting ability.
* WeakButSkilled: He lacks the raw strength of a Teigu user at first, but his training does put him on even footing with some of them, and it makes him a ''monster'' against normal people.

!!! Teigu: [[spoiler:Incursio]]

!! Akame
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame_tropes_1_733.jpg]]

One of the stronger members of Night Raid--enough so that when their actual leader is out, she's appointed as the defacto leader. She was an assassin for the Empire before joining Night Raid. Little is known about her past aside from this. She quickly grows attached to Tatsumi.

!!! Tropes associated with Akame

* [[CainAndAbel Abel]]: To Kurome's [[CainAndAbel Cain]].
* ActionGirl: ''Oh yeah''.
* {{Badass}}: One of the stronger members of the Night Raid and the former top assassin of The Empire.
** BadassAdorable: An absolutely ruthless and efficient killer... who has a tendency to be adorable in her free time.
** BadassBoast: She states that she will kill [[WorldsStrongestMan General Esdeath]] when the time comes.
* BigEater: She definitely qualifies when she can eat beasts several times her size in one meal.
* BondOneLiner[=/=]PreMortemOneLiner: '''I consign you!'''
* TheComicallySerious: A lot of Akame's comedic value comes from her [[NoSocialSkills lack of social skills]] and her [[BigEater voracious appetite]].
--->''After trying to lift up her skirt to see her reaction and getting subsequently punished.''
--->'''Chelsea''': I was just testing to see if she had any kind of shyness as a girl. I got worried there for a second.
--->'''Akame''': Course I do! I’ve been taught all forms of common sense!
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She and her sister Kurome were sold by their parents when they were young and forced into the Prime Minister's assassin creation programs. To clarify, her training [[TrainingFromHell was being forced into a large forest with 100 other children and being hunted by vicious Danger Beasts until only a couple were standing with nothing more than a sword.]] [[UpToEleven And that was just the first part.]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: She was recruited into the Night Raid when she was [[TalkingTheMOnsterToDeath successfully talked into it]] by Boss when she was assigned to kill her.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Starts off initially as an EmotionlessGirl, but begins to become more compassionate after her interactions with [[NiceGuy Tatsumi]].
* EmotionlessGirl: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] since she was trained to kill her emotions to be a proficient assassin.
* [[MasterSwordsman Master Swordswoman]]
* MeaningfulName: "Akame" literally means "[[RedEyesTakeWarning red eyes]]''.
* MiniDressOfPower: Her IconicOutfit.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Her first encounter with Tatsumi has him in the wrong place at the wrong time and with the ''wrong'' idea of who is good and who is bad. [[GenreSavvy She's very aware of this and avoids fighting him.]]
* RapunzelHair: It reaches down to her ''knees''.
* RedBaron: [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Akame of the Demon Sword Murasame]].
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: Definitely not [[TrainingFromHell awesome training]] but Akame's rigorous assassination training makes her one of the strongest combatants in the story.
* TheStoic: She always carries a melancholy look around her teammates and when out in combat.
** NotSoStoic: But it’s evident that Akame represses her emotions to be an effective killer and breaks down in tears while berating Tatsumi when he assumes that she already gets over [[spoiler: Schere’s death]].
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Sugar for her teammates and Ice for her assassination targets.
* WaifFu: Akame is a very lithe girl but she demonstrates [[FlashStep she can move faster than the eye can see]] and [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe bifurcate men]] [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower several times larger than her]] in the same motion.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade-B.

!!! Teigu: Murasame
* {{BFS}}
* KatanasAreJustBetter
* LogicalWeakness: Despite Murasame's GameBreaker abilities, It's only really effective when it cuts an opponent and [[PoisonedWeapons they succumb to it's extremely deadly poison]]. So when faced with opponents like [[PoweredArmor Wave's]] [[NighInvulnerability Grand Chariot]] or [[PeoplePuppets Kurome's]] [[TheUndead Yatsuhusa]], [[WorfBarrage it's nothing more than a regular katana]]
* OneHitKill
* PoisonedWeapons: One tiny cut and the poison spreads to your heart and kills you instantly. It’s also said that there’s no antidote for the poison.
* RedBaron: One Cut Killer Murasame.

!! Leonne
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leone_tropes_9250.jpg]]

The first member of Night Raid Tatsumi encounters. Ironically, her encounter with him is what causes him to meet the nobles who were their targets at the time. When she witnesses Tatsumi's first on-screen kill, she notices his potential and decides to recruit him. Her reason for joining the Night Raid is simply for the fact that she likes to fight and what better outlet for her abilities than to rid the Empire of their evils.

!!! Tropes associated with Leonne

* ActionGirl: The most prominent one in the Night Raid.
* BerserkButton: Being a victim of surprise attacks. She loves doing the surprising, just not being on the other end of one.
* BoobsOfSteel: Easily has the biggest [[GagBoobs “assets”]] of the entire cast and the physically strongest female of the Night Raid.
* CatGirl: Even when not using her Teigu.
* CoolBigSis: Acts as this towards all of the members of the Night Raid except [[TheLeader Boss]] and [[ChivalrousPervert Rabac]].
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Has been seen with alcohol more than anyone else. Interestingly, she's also better at holding her liquor than anyone else.
* LightningBruiser: Fast enough to FlashStep across a mountain valley and strong enough to crush skulls and smash craters into the ground with one punch.
* MarshmallowHell: Subjects Tatsumi to this to tease him much to his embarrassment and the [[ChivalrousPervert envy of Rabac’s.]]
* MsFanservice: A young [[GagBoobs busty]] woman whose IconicOutfit are {{Stripperific}} clothes and has the ability to transform into a CatGirl. Not to mention her tendency to [[TheGlomp glomp]] people.
* NowThatsUsingYourTeeth: Like catching throwing knives and biting off the tip of flamethrowers.
* ScarfOfAsskicking
* SpiritedCompetitor: She has a tendency to waste time on an assassination if she comes across particularly strong enemies. This particular trait gets her punished by Boss at times.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her outfit is essentially a bikini with DetachedSleeves and detached pants legs. Make note of how this manga also has a LimitedWardrobe for almost every character.
* TheTease: Towards Tatsumi.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Mine's Girly Girl.

!!! Teigu: Lionelle

* HealingFactor: An ability of Lionelle heightens the user’s ability to recover, allowing them to recover from near fatal wounds and reattach limbs with some assistance.
* LittleBitBeastly: After its activation the user grows the ears and tail of a lion, while their hands transform into large paws.
* SuperSenses

!! Braht
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/braht_tropes_1020.jpg]]

Another former soldier of the Empire. He defected after his former leader was framed for crimes he didn't commit.

!!! Tropes associated with Braht

* BadassGay: It's pretty obvious he's more than just "curious" about men, but that doesn't change the fact he took down three of the empire's strongest soldiers (who where also Teigu users) in the blink of an eye.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Tatsumi.
** [[spoiler:MentorOccupationalHazard]]
* DelinquentHair: His hair is styled in the shape of a pompadour.
* [[spoiler: GoOutWithASmile]]
* HeroicBuild: He is ''ripped''.
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal]]
* NiceGuy: One of the nicest members of the Night Raid when Tatsumi first joins.
* RedBaron: [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast The Hundred Man Slayer.]]

!!! Teigu: Incursio

* AdaptiveArmor: Due to Tyrant's aptitude for adaptation and evolution the armor also inherits its AdaptiveAbility.
* BadassCape
* BladeOnAStick: Incursio's auxiliary armanent, ''Neuntote'', a halberd capable of cutting through several Danger Beasts in one swing.
* CoolMask
* InvisibilityCloak: He can become invisible for a limited amount of time.
* NighInvulnerability: Incursio's known for it's near indestructible defense.
* PowerArmor: The armor was created from the flesh of Tyrant, whose life force was so great that the beast is still alive within the armor.
* RedBaron: Demon [[InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons Dragon]] Armor.

!! Rabac
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rabac_tropes_4060.jpg]]

One of the first members of Night Raid. He's known their leader since childhood and faked their deaths after they defected.

!!! Tropes associated with Rabac

* {{Badass}}: [[spoiler: Takes out two of the Rakshasa Demons by himself.]]
* ButtMonkey: Par course for his behavior in the Night Raid. He's either [[PervertRevengeMode beaten to a pulp]] by Leonne or [[LaserGuidedKarma running away from Braht's affection]].
* CasanovaWannabe: He always tries to woo any cute girl he sees. Unfortunately for him, [[DidNotGetTheGirl they're either not interested]] or [[FemmeFatale trying to kill him]].
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: He's remarkably respectful towards [[spoiler: the leader of the Night Raid despite his tendencies.]]
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's shown to be the ButtMonkey for his perverted tendencies and jealously of [[ChickMagnet Tatsumi]] during the story, but in the midst of combat he demonstrates he can be quite the cunning and dangerous opponent as shown from his victory over [[spoiler: two of the Four Rakshasa Demons]], [[spoiler: who have been known to be a group skilled in the art of killing Teigu users.]]
* ChivalrousPervert: He’s often spending his free time trying to peek on [[MsFanservice Leone]] in the hot springs or cursing Tatsumi on his success on gaining the affection of majority of the women he comes across. He does show chivalry sometimes such as when he takes on two Rakshasa Demons to save a young Night Raid spy.
* GreenEyedMonster: ''Incredibly'' jealous of Tatsumi's status as the resident ChickMagnet.
* TheSmartGuy: He's the one that handles the alarms and defenses of the Night Raid's hideouts and he's also skilled in reconnaissance and information gathering.
* SpoiledSweet: Was originally the son of a wealthy merchant.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: He's known the leader of Night Raid since he was very young.
* WeakButSkilled: While he lacks the raw physical power of [[LightningBruiser Leonne]] or the devastating Teigu attack power of [[OneHitKill Akame]], several characters note him to have a great deal of combat experience and a highly tactical mind, often defeating his enemies with intuitive uses of his Teigu.

!!! Teigu: Cross Tail

* RazorFloss: Cross Tail was made from the body hair of a Danger Beast renown for their extremely durable and sharp body hair. As such Rabac can alternate between using the threads for either strangulation or laceration.
* ShapingYourAttacks: He can shape his thread into a throwing spear, a makeshift shield, and an axe.

!! Mine
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mein_tropes_2027.jpg]]
!!! Tropes associated with Mine

* ButNotTooForeign: She states that she was born and raised in the western borders of the Empire and because of [[FantasticRacism her half foreign blood]] [[DarkAndTroubledPast she was often faced ridicule and misery in her childhood]].
* GirlishPigtails: [[MegaTwinTails They’re about as tall as her.]]
* GlassCannon: She has destructive power and range but she [[SquishyWizard lacks any kind of defensive measure against counterattacks.]]
* HairDecorations: Bows.
* HypocriticalHumor: She hates how insulting Chelsea is to her comrades yet Tatsumi notes she acted the ''exact'' same way when he first joined.
* InsufferableGenius: In terms of her sniping skill she's no doubt a genius. The only reason other characters don't comment on her impressive skills is because [[{{Pride}} she already beats them to the compliment]].
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Mine likes to wear a nice frilly dress whenever she decides to kick ass.
* LongRangeFighter: A Type II. She has devastating range and attack power but she's only effective at a distance since most enemies can either [[MadeOfIron withstand]] or [[DodgeTheBullet outright dodge]] Pumpkin's shots.
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:Starts falling for Tatsumi after he saves her from Serieux's [[TakingYouWithMe final attack.]]]]
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Tatsumi as of Chapter 45.]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Leonne's Tomboy.
* {{Tsundere}}: A Type A. She always acts condescending and short tempered to her teammates especially when Tatsumi first joins the Night Raid. But she does show that she cares for her teammates such as when she shows contempt for Chelsea for mocking the [[spoiler: fallen Braht and Schere]].
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A.

!!! Teigu: Pumpkin

* MagikarpPower: An ability of Pumpkin is that the power and range of the Teigu increases in proportion to the level of danger its user is in, with the energy blasts resembling that of a WaveMotionGun when the danger hits its highest. This ability makes it great for combat it requires the user to be in ''[[AwesomeButImpractical constant]]'' [[AwesomeButImpractical life threatening danger to be effective]].
* SniperRifle: What it is mainly uses as.

!! Schere
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/schere_tropes_9726.jpg]]
!!! Tropes associated with Schere

* CuteClumsyGirl: Perhaps her most defining trait outside combat as she’s useless at many mundane tasks such as shopping, cooking, and cleaning. She even forgets important details regarding targets and has to be reminded on a daily basis.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She was always ridiculed for her clumsiness until she gained a friend who didn't mind it. That is, until one night her friend's doped up ex boyfriend barged into her house and nearly choked her to death until Schere killed him. Unfortunately, her friend ostracized her and a gang of men working under the ex killed her parents and was about to do the same to her until she killed them.
* DissonantSerenity: This is what makes her such an effective killer. She can shut down all unnecessary thoughts and focus her concentration on eliminating her target.
* [[spoiler: DyingMomentOfAwesome: Even while she's slowly dying from being ''ripped in half'' Schere has enough strength to invoke Ecstacy's LightEmUp ability, allowing Mine to escape further enemy reinforcements.]]
* [[spoiler: GoOutWithASmile: [[EatenAlive As she's being consumed by Serieux's Koro.]]]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: A giant pair of scissors.
* {{Meganekko}}
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal: The first of the Night Raid.]]
* ScarsAreForever: She has a scar on her right cheek that she tells Tatsumi was the result of a tough battle. [[spoiler: In actuality, [[CuteClumsyGirl the scar was caused by a careless Schere scraping her cheek across a sharp tree branch.]]]]
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A.

!!! Ecstacy

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Or scissors. It can cut through [[spoiler: Incursio and presumably Grand Chariot]] which are known for their near perfect defence.
* {{BFS}}: Big friggin' scissors.
* LightEmUp: Has an ability to generate a bright light to blind and momentarily stun opponents.
* ShearMenace

!! Boss [[spoiler: Najenda]]
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/najenda_tropes_4866.jpg]]

!!! Tropes associated with Boss

* AbsoluteCleavage: She's almost always wearing a shirt with a low neckline.
* ArtificialLimbs: Her right arm is mechanical, though how she lost it is not known. [[spoiler:Later revealed to be destroyed by Esdeath along with an eye, when the latter found out that she had defected.]]
* HandicappedBadass: After losing an eye and her right arm she comments that she can only use about 40% of her original strength. This doesn't prevent the fact that she can still [[CurbStompBattle curb stomp]] general class opponents with ease.
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler:Used to be a general in the Imperial army alongside Esdeath, but joined the Revolutionaries after seeing her in action.]]
* EyepatchOfPower: [[spoiler: She lost her eye to Esdeath.]]
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking
* IdenticalStranger: The reason Susanoo responded to her is because she resembles his previous master, [[CrowningMomentOfFunny who much to Tatsumi and Leonne's amusement]], [[LadyLooksLikeADude was a man]].
* TheLeader: A mix of Type I and II. She is the one who assigns the separate members of Night Raid to the requests that are given to them and pairs them according to whose strength is suited for the task. It was her plan that tricks Esdeath into wiping out a gang of bandits for the Night Raid and leads to the [[spoiler: death of Bors and the weakening of Kurome]].
* PlotArmor: It is known that activating [[CastFromHitPoints Magatama Manifestation]] three times kills the user. [[spoiler:But when Najenda activates it for the third time in her battle with Esdeath in the Borick arc she luckily survives only due to the fact that Susanoo reached his physical limit before her life force did.]]
* RocketPunch: With her right arm, and can use it to pull herself forward too.
* YouMonster: Delivers this reaction to Kurome. She despises Kurome's Teigu because she feels it desecrates the dead.

!!! Teigu: See Susanoo

!! Susanoo
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/susanoo_tropes_9310.jpg]]

A living, self-aware Teigu. Despite not being human, he has a personality and quickly bonds with the other members of Night Raid.

!!! Tropes associated with Susanoo

* ArtificialHuman: He was a Teigu meant to accompany important members of the Empire over long journeys acting as a cook, a medic, and a bodyguard all in one.
* BerserkButton: Nothing ever pissed him off more than learning that one of their targets had a habit of tainting people's food with am addictive drug.
* BigDamnHeroes: In his first appearance.
* ChickMagnet: Rabac mentions that he'd like to take him into town one day to help him pick up chicks. Susanoo doesn't really understand, but says that he'd be happy to help his allies in any way.
* [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice: Decides hold off [[TheJuggernaut General Esdeath]] long enough for the remaining Night Raid members to flee after the assassination of Borick.]]
* HealingFactor: Being a humanoid Teigu allows him regenerate destroyed limbs within seconds.
* HornedHumanoid
* MeaningfulName: Named after the storm god of Japanese legend. [[PersonOfMassDestruction He's also the Teigu capable of the most destruction wielded by Night Raid.]]
* NeatFreak: When he sees something out of place like someone’s hair or their clothes he immediately adjusts it perfectly.
* RealMenCook: Takes the role of being the Night Raid’s chef alongside Akame.
* SuperMode: Magatama Manifestation, Susanoo's trump card that gives him a major power boost, allowing him to use powerful techniques such as [[PublicDomainArtifact Ame no Murakumo, Mirror of Yata, and the Jewel of Yasakani]] but [[CastFromHitPoints kills his master after being used three times]].
** AttackReflector: Mirror of Yata, a huge shield capable of reflecting any projectile attack.
** {{BFS}}: Ame no Murakamo, a gigantic sword capable of cutting through [[{{Kaiju}} Ultra Class Danger Beast Destaghoul]] ''in one swing.''
** FlashStep: Jewel of Yasakani.
** HolyHalo: It even [[AntiGravityClothing levitates behind his back]] for RuleOfCool.
* SupremeChef: He's known for making the giant creatures [[BigEater Akame]] captures into luxurious meals for the rest of the group.
* WorthyOpponent: [[spoiler: To [[BloodKnight Esdeath]] in his [[YouShallNotPass resolve to hold her off to allow the remaining Night Raid to flee]]. She even vowed to remember him not as a Teigu, but [[VillainRespect as a warrior]].]]

!! Chelsea
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chelsea_tropes_3907.jpg]]

A young girl who joins Night Raid later on in the story. Her town was eradicated by the Empire upon suspicion of harboring rebels. Her Teigu allows her to take on a multitude of different disguises.

!!! Tropes associated to Chelsea

* ActionGirl: One of the least action-oriented of a cast full of battle-ready women.
* [[spoiler: CruelAndUnusualDeath:]] [[spoiler: [[OffWithHerHead Her head was cut off]], placed on a pike in the center of town square, [[KickTheDog the rest of her body was dissected by Esdeath and eaten by Serieux's Koro.]]]]
* TheGadfly: In her free time she [[ItAmusedMe enjoys getting reactions out of her teammates]] and especially likes pushing Mine’s buttons, such as [[ACupAngst mocking her chest size]] and tricking her with her transformations.
* HairDecorations
* [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal:]] The third, by [[spoiler: Kurome.]]
* OralFixation: Always seen with a lollipop in her mouth.
* [[spoiler:RasputinianDeath: [[{{Fingore}} All of her fingers on her left hand gets shot off]], [[AnArmAndALeg her right arm gets lopped off]], [[InTheBack she gets shot in the torso]], and then [[OffWithHerHead she's finally beheaded]]. That's not even counting what happens to her body ''[[UpToEleven after she dies]]''.]]
* RedHeadedHero
* {{Revenge}}: She kills [[spoiler: Bors]], who was the agent of the Empire that wiped out her town.
* SoleSurvivor: Of the other Night Raid assassination team that was annihilated by the Three Beasts.
* TooDumbToLive: Let's face it: pursuing an enemy who took on your entire team single-handedly is a bad idea, whether they were severely weakened or not.
* WeakButSkilled: She's remarkably capable of deception and [[PressurePoint striking at vital points]]. [[spoiler: Too bad Kurome had been doped.]]

!!! Teigu: Gaea Foundation

* MasterOfDisguise: She can take on the form of anything from a cat to a little girl.
* TransformationTrinket: In the form of a makeup box.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Jaegars]]
!Tropes associated with Jagers:
* AntiVillain: Some of the members such as Wave and Boris are this, especially considering that the Jaegars themselves don't actively abuse the populace of the Empire and are actually intent on protecting them. Unlike the [[EvilerThanThou Wild Hunt]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even the worst members of their group have a strict moral code.
* EvilCounterpart: To Night Raid.
* FiveBadBand:
** BigBad: Esdeath
** TheDragon: Kurome
** EvilGenius: Dr.Stylish
** TheBrute: Boris
** TheDarkChick: Seireux/Ran
** TokenGoodTeammate: Wave
* PunchClockVillain: Other than [[CuteAndPsycho Seireux]] and [[MadScientist Dr. Stylish]] most of the members see being in the group as just a job and generally aren't villainous otherwise outside of combat.
!! Esdeath
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/esdese_tropes_3741.jpg]]
Leader of the Jaegars. A high-ranking general and the most powerful fighter in the Empire. A true sadist, she is an expert in torture and ''loves'' to inflict it upon others (indeed, the prospect of her "personal" attention is seen as a [[FateWorseThanDeath terrible fate]]). Ironically, when offered a title of nobility for [[spoiler: hunting down and destroying Night Raid]], she instead wanted them to find someone she believed could be her OneTrueLove (to the utter shock of everyone in the room).

!!! Tropes associated with Esdeath

* AllWomenAreDomsAllMenAreSubs: Goes right along with her pure sadistic nature, but when she thinks Tatsumi is a masochist[[note]] After he asks her to PinchMe [[/note]], she is quite over joyed and thinks it's further proof they are made for each other.
* AnIcePerson: Her Teigu, Demon's Extract, can create ice from nothing, lots of ice. In fact, it's said to be the most powerful teigu in existence.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: She has one of the highest authorities in the Empire. She's also a complete {{Badass}} among badasses.
* '''{{Badass}}'''
** BreakTheBadass: She’s capable of doing this to every opponent but notable mention goes to ''[[SpiritedCompetitor Leone]]'' who flees from her just from the pressure of her ''KillingIntent''.
** FourStarBadass: When you kick as much ass as her there's no other position except as a general.
** HeartbrokenBadass: After Tatsumi manages to escape from her... [[VillainousCrush love]].
* BloodKnight: The reason she brutally kills all but a few people when putting down a rebellion. She wants that hatred to be preserved and spread once more, so another revolt happens in time, so that she may fight again. Hopefully against stronger/more worthy opponents.
* CombatSadomasochist
* FreudianExcuse: She's a SocialDarwinist because she was raised in a very rural, unforgiving area of the continent where Danger Beasts ran rampant. Her father emphasized the importance of survival of the fittest for her own sake, but it wound up backfiring terribly after his death at the hands of raiders from a rival tribe.
** Subverted because it still doesn't explain why she is so terrifyingly sadistic. Even her father was apprehensive at how much excitement she found in cutting bodies up. Although, being given a name (see MeaningfulName below) that forced her to claim to be a sadist every time she introduce her name might have something to do with it.
** Also averted as the reason she utterly demolished the Northern tribes. Not because of revenge, but because it was simply her job.
* GratuitousGerman: Most of her named attacks fall under this. [[spoiler: Averted with her [[HinduMythology trump card]].]]
* HeroKiller: She's responsible for the destruction of many prominent forces opposing the Empire but she definitely becomes one when she kills [[spoiler:Susanoo]].
* IControlMyMinionsThrough...: Kindness ironically. Despite her philosophy she's very kind (in her own way) and caring to her subordinates... Until they screw up badly, at which point the sadist in her comes out and they get tortured (but not killed, as is usually the case with her).
* [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe I'm Taking Tatsumi Home With Me]]: Tatsumi is the first person she encounters who fits her criteria for her perfect match, so she kidnaps him with the entire stadium full of spectators watching. No joke! She slaps a collar around his neck, starts to drag him off, and ''knocks him out when he asks her to wait a moment.''
-->'''Tatsumi:''' WAIT! Hold on a--
-->'''Esdeath:''' ''(Hits Tatsumi on the back of the neck.)'' No, I will not wait. Lets go to the palace where we can talk alone.
-->''Esdeath slings an unconsious Tatsumi over her shoulder and walks off.)''
-->''(A panel showing the spectators' reactions that includes a dumbfounded man, a stunned woman, and an utterly distraught Esdeath fanboy.)''
-->'''Rabac:''' [[FlatWhat WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED??!!]]
* {{Jerkass}}: She's actually ''very'' aware of how the Prime Minister is manipulating the emperor and allowing the Capital to become corrupt and rampant with crime, but doesn't give a flying fracas about it. So long as she can fight, she'll do nothing to stop him.
** Tatsumi even attempts to convince her to use her influence to better the Empire from within by appealing to the good side of her he's seen: He tries to explain how the drastic class gap could keep people who loved each other apart, but her obsession with SocialDarwinist philosophy causes her immediate response to be that she can't comprehend something like that. To her, the strong fight for what they want and if they're strong enough to survive, they do. If they don't, they're too weak and she doesn't care.
* TheJuggernaut: In the course of the entire story Esdeath has ''never'' been harmed when she enters a fight. If her opponents aren't done in by her OneHitKill blows, they are immediately incapacitated or [[ColdBloodedTorture worse]]. This comes to a head in the Borick arc, when she takes down [[spoiler: [[PoweredArmor Incursio Tatsumi]]]], [[LightningBruiser Leone]], [[SuperMode Magatama Susanoo]], and [[spoiler: [[HandicappedBadass Najenda]]]] ''singlehandedly''.
--->'''[[spoiler:Najenda]]''': If you make a mistake, we'll crash head on into Esdeath. We don't have enough soldiers to face her yet.
--->'''Tatsumi''': How many do you think we'll need to defeat her?
--->'''[[spoiler:Najenda]]''': [[NoKillLikeOverkill Fifty thousand elite soldiers]], and [[UpToEleven at least ten Teigu users like Akame.]]
* LoveRedeems: {{Subverted}}. Tatsumi realized that she can't be changed from her current standpoint, because she isn't just a product of society or her time, she really is insane and nothing will change that.
* LightningBruiser: Most of her blows are OneHitKill and she's fast enough to dodge attacks from [[spoiler: [[PoweredArmor Incursio Tatsumi]]]] and [[SuperMode Magatama Susanoo]] ''simultaneously''. That's not even taking into account of her [[AnIcePerson Teigu]].
* MeaningfulName: Esdeath --> S Desu, which means "I am a sadist" in Japanese
* MiniDressOfPower
* MsFanservice: Even more so than Leone.
* RapunzelHair: Par course for the series.
* RedBaron: [[WorldsStrongestMan The Empire's Strongest]].
* RoyalRapier: Her weapon of choice.
* SingleTargetSexuality: A Tatsumiexual.
* SocialDarwinist: An extreme example, she believes it only natural for the weak to die. Indeed, she even states she cannot understand "the feelings of the weak." It's to the point that when Tatsumi tries to reason with her and get her to use her influence to help eliminate some of the corruption within, appealing to the fact that she loves him with a scenario of a girl who's kept from her love by the large social gaps and corruption, she coldly states that she doesn't understand such things.
* SuperpowerLottery: Being gifted with the [[AnIcePerson Demon's Extract]] automatically wins her this, allowing her to create ''gigantic'' blocks of ice out of thin air with little effort and instantaneously freeze anything within seconds. If that's not enough she has OneHitKill blows, she's fast enough FlashStep around her opponents, and has an impeccable [[SpiderSense sixth sense]]. If all that fails she can [[spoiler: [[TimeStandsStill briefly freeze space and time once a day]]]].
* [[spoiler: TimeStandsStill: Her trump card, [[HinduMythology Mahapadma]], allows her to literally ''freeze time and space'' for a short amount of time. That's how much of a StoryBreakerPower her Teigu is. And she's the villain!]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: She used to be a very nice girl who loved nothing more than hunting and being with her fellow tribe members, her father especially. However, her father emphasized SocialDarwinist philosophy in her upbringing for her own sake; the Danger Beasts running rampant around their homeland meant that she'd die if she couldn't become a force to be reckoned with by the time she became old enough to hunt. However, her village was later wiped out during a raid by an enemy tribe, and her father's last words included even more about survival of the fittest, and without his guidance, she became the sadist working for the empire that we've come to know.
** Slightly subverted, in that even her father admitted she had a few moral screws loose. Her sadistic tendencies are implied to have been all nature, not nurture.
* VillainousCrush: With Tatsumi, who managed to fit all her criteria for a lover plus the extra one (A pure and innocent smiling face would be nice). It seems to be genuine LoveAtFirstSight for her, as she only becomes softer and kinder when she's around him and is pretty determined in her efforts to get him to fall in love with her (even asking Bors for advice) despite the fact he stated he was going to join the revolutionary army.

* PowerArmor: Grand Chariot was also made from the flesh of Tyrant after Incursio and Wave confidently states that because of this fact Grand Chariot is superior to its predecessor.

* GameBreakingInjury: A rare villainous variant. After surviving an assassination attempt by [[spoiler:Chelsea]], Kurome has been visibly more tired and weaker in combat. A notable example is when she fought the entire Night Raid she was able to summon and control eight corpse puppets and still have the strength to fend off [[MasterSwordsman Akame]] simultaneously while largely keeping the pace of the battle. When the man tries to convince Emperor Makoto he’s being manipulated him, he puts on a kind face and successfully convinces him otherwise. What marks him being a complete and utter bastard is telling the condemned man that he’ll make sure to take care of his wife, every single part of her.
* EvilChancellor: Evil Prime Minister to be exact. He plays the trope straight by having the most influential power in the entire empire, [[TheManBehindTheMan influencing the decisions]] of TheEmperor, and being his most “trusted” advisor.
* FatBastard: His argument is that the [[PostStressOvereating stress he gets from hearing about the actions of the resistance cause him to over indulge himself]].
