The leader of the Elizalina Alliance of Independent Nations and the twin sister of the Maiden of Versailles.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Since her magic is also based on the Right Hand's principles, she was able to affect Fiamma's Holy Right, if only temporarily.
* {{Egopolis}}: She's not a dictator, but the Alliance of Independent Nations was named after/in honor of her.
* {{Foil}}: To her sister, the Maiden of Versailles. Both of them lead nations, one of them manipulating people behind the scenes and the other helping nations prosper. One of them is skilled with warfare, while the other is an intelligent woman who helped her nation become independent and prosperous. Finally, one of them is a highly skilled magician, while the other is merely average in skill.
* TheMedic: [[spoiler:She's the one who heals Takitsubo. However, she can't heal Last Order.]]
* WhiteMagicianGirl: In contrast to the Maiden of Versailles, who wields a sword.
%%* WomanInWhite: As seen in the picture.

[[folder:Leivinia Birdway]]
!!Leivinia Birdway

She's a quirky 12-year old girl who's magical prowess have earned her many invitations to other organizations, which she flatly rejected. Instead, she leads her own magical organization, the Dawn-Colored Sunlight. She plays a major part of New Testament 3.
* AChildShallLeadThem: She is the leader of the 10,000 strong magic cabal Dawn-Colored Sunlight.
* ACupAngst: Oh, definitely, as Fremea-chan demonstrated.
--> '''Fremea''': And I wear a bra, so I’m essentially the winner.
--> '''Leivinia''': What are you trying to do!? Are you trying to pick a fight with me, you damn brat!?!?!?
** She picked a fight with Kanzaki Kaori in the ''Norse Mythology SS'' over her breast size.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: To Shiage, because he was sleepy during her course of magic, and that he brought up [[ACupAngst a certain subject]].
* AscendedExtra: Kamachi said that she is his favorite character and was literally ''squealing'' in his author's notes when she appeared in New Testament Volume 1.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Flintlock pistols have one shot and take a long time to load the bullet, powder, and wadding. She uses them because she thinks they are really cool.
* BadBoss: Abuses poor Mark like there's no tomorrow.
* BullyingADragon: Taunts [[spoiler: Aleister Crowley]] by pointing out how the changing circumstances have derailed his plans and how, in spite of this, he can't take action to correct those problems because that carries the risk of derailing his plans even further. His response is to cut a few strands of hair off of her head to show that he was listening to her and at the same time providing proof for her theory in how he didn't simply decapitate her instead.
* CarFu: Rams a ''tanker truck'' into Cendrillon.
* CombatPragmatist: Will do anything to win, including psychological warfare and wielding a flintlock pistol.
* ComedicSociopathy: Her sadistic tendencies are mostly played for laughs.
** ...But to that note, she is stated to hold (tentatively) "[T]he #3 spot in the super sadist world rankings," according to Touma.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Only appeared shortly in cameos for obscure short stories before finally appearing officially in New Testament. She actually first meets Touma in a manga short story set way before her appearance in the main canon. [[CaptainObvious And yes, he sees her naked.]]
** For those knowledgeable in those short stories, they would have spotted her brief cameos in Volume 18 and 22.
* [[spoiler:EvilCannotComprehendGood: She can easily enter the mindset of politicians and master schemers like Aleister Crowley to predict their actions and motivations. However, Touma's [[ChronicHeroSyndrome drive to help and protect others]] without expecting any reward or having any ulterior motives makes absolutely no sense to her. She eventually concludes that he is insane.]]
* TheGadfly: Enjoys trolling everybody.
* GenreSavvy: [[spoiler: She studies leaders and charismatic people so she may take the best course of action to TakeOverTheWorld. Plus, it allowed her to simply analyze ''Aleister Crowley's mindset '' and deduce that he's basically backed into a corner and can't do anything.]]
* GroinAttack: On Touma.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: [[spoiler: Averted. As Touma points out in his fight with her, Leivinia's spells rely on her having executed the same movements again and again over a long period of time until the movements themselves became magical symbols that she could use to cast her spells. As he stated, she is the ultimate example of the passionate hard worker, getting power through effort and application.]]
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Touma claims that by [[spoiler:manipulating and hurting countless others in the name of defeating Gremlin, her group and herself will be no different and will simply become the world's next enemy.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: She refuses to use the more practical modern guns because of her contempt for science and because modern guns are not as cool as flintlock pistols.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: [[spoiler: After her battle with Touma, Silvia points out that Leivinia only relied on the minor arcana for her spells and suggests that if she used the major arcana, then she could have turned the tables on him.]]
* TheIdealist: Played with. Birdway genuinely wants to save people and do it in the best way possible, and her logic helps to shape [[spoiler:Hawaii and Baggage City]] in [=NT3=] and [=NT4=] respectively. In her confrontation with Touma in [=NT7=], one where she incidentally holds back, he points out that she could have circumvented most of the events that occurred had she used Touma as bait, something that she had considered but did not want to do to him.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Silvia accuses her of seeing Touma as her ideal big brother. While it finally got her to snap and threaten Silvia, she never did deny it either.
* LittleMissBadass: She has the ability to [[StuffBlowingUp create explosions]] by channeling [[HolyHandGrenade Telesma]] -- and Telesma is not for everyone, to say the least. [[spoiler: Poor Acqua...]]
** She doesn't channel Telesma through her body. Her ''Summon Explosion'' is basically described as her skipping over the normally complex prep work that goes into using Telesma correctly and instead carries out her spell with nothing more than intuition. Basically, it's as though she pulled off an incredibly precise feat of engineering while simply eyeballing the measurements.
** She has a level of power comparable to that of a Saint, despite being an ordinary magician. She has even fought Kanzaki to a draw on at least one occasion.
* [[ManipulativeBastard Manipulative Bitch]]: [[spoiler: She basically screwed over and destabilized the Science Side by having Accelerator, Mikoto, and Touma interfere with the activities on Hawaii, without Aleister's manipulations to prevent it, just to bait GREMLIN into moving.]]
* [[MrExposition Miss Exposition]]: In ''New Testament'' Volume 2. She explains magic to Accelerator and Shiage (Umidori eavesdropped on the conversation).
* NotSoDifferent: [[spoiler: From GREMLIN, Aleister, Fiamma, and Laura, in the fact that she is willing to essentially shatter the peace of the world by destabilizing the Science Side to accomplish her goal.]]
* OddFriendship: She and Accelerator have excellent chemistry. He might be replacing Mark Space at this rate.
* PantyShot: Gives ones to ''Kaori''...
* PretentiousLatinMotto: Regnum771 -- meaning Kingdom.
* TheProfiler: Her cabal specializes in analyzing the thoughts and motives of those in leadership positions.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Does this to [[spoiler: Aleister]]. It. Is. GLORIOUS.
* ReversePsychology: A good example is during the NT Volume 2 epilogue, towards [[spoiler: Accelerator.]]
* ShootTheDog: Her policy toward anyone dangerous. [[spoiler: In NT Volume 6, Touma opposes her in her attempt to kill Fraulein Kreutune. He says it doesn't matter that Freuline has uncontrollably become a cannibal, he calls Birdway out on not considering other options for solving the problem.]]
* SphereOfDestruction: Her Telesma bombs.
* [[spoiler: TakeOverTheWorld: Her organization wants to remove the distinctions between Science and Magic, then rule over both worlds.]]
* TarotMotifs: This seems to be a common factor amongst ''Golden Style'' magicians as they use the symbols and suits of the tarot to shape their magic.
** PlayingWithFire: The staff or wand suit.
** BlowYouAway: The sword suit.
** MakingASplash: The cup or chalice suit.
** DishingOutDirt: The coin suit.
* WhamLine: At the end of ''New Testament 3''
-->'''Birdway''': [[spoiler: “I don’t recall ever saying I stood on the side of justice, boy.” ]]

[[folder:Mark Space]]
!!Mark Space

Levinia Birdway's personal assistant and a member of Dawn-Colored Sunlight.
* ButtMonkey[=/=]BeleagueredAssistant: Really suffers under his boss' demands.
* PretentiousLatinMotto: Amare091
* SuperSpeed: He was able to block an attack aimed at Patricia Birdway and then move back to his original position without her noticing him move.
* TarotMotifs: Like most members of Dawn-Colored Sunlight.
** BlowYouAway: The Sword suit. He knows 14 different wind spells.

[[folder:President Katze]]
!!Roberto Katze

President of the United States of America. Introduced in New Testament Volume 3.
* AdaptationInducedPlotHole: Averted! Almost 3 years before Katze's introduction in the novels, an additional scene was added to episode 15 of Index I (the angel fall arc) that involved Kuroko switching with the US President, who was implied to be UsefulNotes/BarackObama. Despite this, the scene still fits Katze quite well.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:He saves Accelerator of all people from GREMLIN agents.]]
* BunnyEarsLawyer: During an important meeting with several important political figures, he was munching on a hotdog, reading a dirty magazine, and hitting on the females in the room. He's still the President.
* {{Expy}}: Fans can't help but compare his appearance with Rider from ''LightNovel/FateZero''. The fact that they both have a boisterous personality reinforces the point.
* InSeriesNickname: Mr. Scandal.
* NationalStereotypes: Boasts about America being the land of guns.
--> '''Roberto Katze''': Don't even hold a gun if you can't hit. Are you trying to get yourself killed!? This is the world's largest gun country!!
* OurPresidentsAreDifferent: More specifically...
** President Action: When he determined that some organization was subverting Americans, including members of the White House and various defense agencies, he took it upon himself to personally investigate, ditching his bodyguards.
** President Minority: In the Raildex-verse, he's the third President of Latino descent elected to the office.
** President Playboy: Shades of this. And yet he makes UsefulNotes/BillClinton look tame, considering he's currently engaged to be married, but yet is still a flirt and openly talks of his sexual prowess.
* RagingStiffie: Suffered one during a meeting due to his dirty magazine and the females in the room. His secretary was disgusted.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: After Touma tells him that [[spoiler:Othinus has pulled a HeelFaceTurn and is no longer a threat to the world]], he's rightfully skeptical, then listens to him after Touma gives his argument. He then gives a heartfelt speech to the world urging them to believe in Touma.
* RecognitionFailure: He gets upset frequently that no one seems to be able to recognize him as the president, even though he has a very distinctive appearance.

[[folder:Aureolus Izzard]]
!!Aureolus Izzard
!!!Honos628 -- ''My Honor is For the World''

-> Voiced by: Creator/TomokazuSugita (JP), Creator/JasonLiebrecht (EN)

An alchemist who was Index's bodyguard in the past. He specializes in Ars Magna, a way of bringing thoughts into reality. Similarly to Stiyl, his failure to save Index without erasing her memories is his greatest regret. He "turned to TheDarkSide" as a result.
* AlchemyIsMagic: He may claim to be an alchemist, but what he does is clearly magic.
* ArcVillain: Of the Deep Blood arc.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Most of his power came from being able to analyze and reverse-engineer grimoires.
* {{Bishounen}}: He has the same face as [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Aizen]] for crying out loud!
* BodyguardCrush: Fell in love with Index while he was her guardian.
* [[spoiler:CloningBlues]]: [[spoiler:In the Light Novels, he created a homunculus in his image through alchemy that had all his memories and believed it was actually him. It had Limen Magna: a HookHand and a dart on a VariableLengthChain that turned anything it touched to gold. It went berserk but was defeated by Touma and Stiyl. Stiyl regretfully {{Mercy Kill}}ed it, as it was nearing the end of its life cycle anyway.]]
* CodeName: Magic Name: Honos628
* EvilCounterpart: According to [[WordOfGod the author]], he's Touma if he had failed to save Index in Volume 1.
* EvilLaugh: Pulls a nasty one when his VillainousBreakdown begins and again when [[spoiler:he slices off Touma's arm. Then Touma cuts him off with an ''eviler'' laugh.]]
* TheGunslinger: Has an odd preference for 19th century pistols, summoning several in his battle with Touma.
* FamousAncestor: A direct descendant of famous Renaissance alchemist [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paracelsus Paracelsus]].
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: Conjures up a gun against Touma, but fires wildly, explaining that he wants to drag the fight out and make it as painful as possible.
* [[spoiler:LaserGuidedAmnesia[=/=]IdentityAmnesia]]: His final fate.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy[=/=]LoveMakesYouEvil: His obsession with Index led him to do incredibly depraved things.
* ManInWhite: His entire appearance is in a white suit.
* MoreDakka: Makes his gun turn into ''dozens'' of gun barrels, all connected.
* NotSoDifferent: Stiyl notes that he's similar to Touma and himself in that they will do anything to save Index. In the Light Novels, Touma notes that his Ars Magna functions more like an esper power than like magic.
* PretentiousLatinMotto: "My Honor Is For The World".
* RealityWarper: Anything he imagines comes true.
** ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve[=/=]ImaginationBasedSuperpower: The effectiveness of his reality warping Ars Magna depends on his imagination and confidence.
** [[spoiler: RealityWarpingIsNotAToy: His fears and doubts come true as well. He usually uses acupuncture needles to clear his mind before using Ars Magna. This is why he went through the elaborate plan to capture a vampire, he didn't believe he could do it on his own.]]
** SuperpowerLottery: His Ars Magna is actually on par with John's Pen Mode Index, and a power that can turn your thoughts into reality is pretty much quite the power.
* RedundantRescue[=/=]ShaggyDogStory: He gave three years of his life to find a way to save Index, only to find that Touma had already saved her.
* ToThePain: After conjuring up a gun against Touma, he boasts that he's going to enjoy shooting him in the kneecaps, the arms, etc.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Once Stiyl and Touma explain that his plan to use Himegami to attract a vampire so he can force it to turn Index into a vampire to save her life is unneeded, he gets really mad and decides to kill them, claiming that they mocked him and his dreams. Touma makes him even more upset and scares him half to death by laughing at him when Izzard chops off his arm, realizing that his powers are dependent on his state of mind.]]
* WeHaveReserves: His reply when Touma and Stiyl confront him about his army of BrainwashedAndCrazy Misawa Cram School students whose bodies were breaking down due to them being espers forced to use magic.
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Green Hair]]: As seen in the picture. Justified as mages with an earth-alignment color their hair green to enhance their connection to the earth.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler:Pulls this on Himegami, killing her with a command. Fortunately, Touma's Imagine Breaker could reverse it.]]
* YoungerThanTheyLook: He's 18 and looks like a guy in his 20's or 30's.

[[folder:Ouma Yamisaka]]
!!Ouma Yamisaka

-> Voiced by: Creator/JojiNakata (JP), Bob Carter (EN)

An aloof magician who once kidnapped Index and tried to extract a grimoire from her mind in order to find a cure for a cursed woman he had fallen in love with. When Touma rescues Index and learns of his situation, Touma offers to use Imagine Breaker to save the woman, which he gratefully accepts.
* ArcherArchetype: Wields a magical crossbow called an azusayumi.
* ArcVillain: One of three for the Three Stories Arc
* BadassInANiceSuit: Spends his entire appearance in a nice suit.
* BloodFromTheMouth[=/=]TearsOfBlood: The result of trying to read the grimoire.
* BlowYouAway: Can generate gusts of wind that can demolish buildings or boost him into the air.
* CannotSpitItOut: He refused to admit that he was in love with the girl he was trying to save, instead claiming he was only trying to save her to prove his skill. Touma quickly says that's a load of crap.
* TheComicallySerious: Acts stone-faced in hilarious situations like Touma ordering him to apologize for destroying the homework Touma had been working on the whole day with his wind attack.
* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: Touma and Index would have been happy to help him save the woman if he had just explained what he wanted instead of attacking them.
* {{Determinator}}: He will never give up, no matter the cost.
* EyesAlwaysShut: He only opens his eyes during really serious moments.
* FlashStep: Can move so fast Touma can barely follow him with his eyes.
* {{Invisibility}}: Can turn himself and anyone he's holding invisible.
* NotSoStoic: After realizing what that Touma can save the girl.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: Index and Touma convince him to stand down by forcing him to admit his love for the girl he was trying to save, causing him to break down sobbing.
* {{Telepathy}}: However, if he reads someone's mind, the target can read his mind as well.

[[folder:Oriana Thomson]]
!!Oriana Thomson
!!!Basis104 -- ''The One Who Carries the Basis''

-> Voiced by: Creator/RyokaYuzuki (JP), Jennifer Green (EN)

Oriana Thomson is an 18-year-old blonde magician who works as a mercenary. Her sorcery name is Basis104, "The one who carries the basis."
* AntiVillain: In the Daihasei arc, as she genuinely believed her actions would make the world a better place. She tries to avoid involving innocent bystanders and she will be regretful if she accidentally attacks them.
* {{Badass}}[=/=]DarkActionGirl: She was able to beat Touma up ''without'' using any supernatural abilities until the boy ''was vomiting red from internal bleeding.'' This is something not even ''Accelerator'' was able to do.
* BoobsOfSteel: A very big chest and one of the greatest martial artists in the series.
* CodeName: Magic Name: Basis104
* ConfusionFu: A limitation of her "Short Hand" flashcards is that each one is marked with a unique spell, meaning she rarely, if ever, uses the same spell twice. She almost seems to consider this a point of pride at times. Backfires when Touma eventually realizes that she also subconsciously never launches her attacks in the same way twice in the row, so he's able to dodge her by occupying the space of her previous attack.
* CoolBigSis: Acts like this around children or young teens.
* TheDragon: Oriana is ArcVillain Lidvia Lorenzetti's acting agent.
* EscapeArtist[=/=]StealthExpert: Comes with being a mercenary. Her job forces her to know every way of avoiding detection and capture. It is very hard to keep track of her once she starts running away.
* HelloNurse[=/=]MsFanservice: Several characters, including Touma, find her very, very attractive. Her outfits often consist of the following:
** AbsoluteCleavage: If she wears a shirt or jacket, she leaves it unbuttoned or unzipped. She doesn't wear a bra.
** BareYourMidriff: If she wears a shirt or jacket, she leaves the bottom part open. Also when she changes into her bandeau/skirt combo.
** {{Gainaxing}}: In the anime, her boobs jiggle whenever she moves.
** PrettyInMink: Carries a fur cloak when she changes into her bandeau/skirt combo.
** ShesGotLegs: Her skirt has a slit exposing her long, shapely legs.
** {{Stripperific}}: She most likely sent several under-age characters straight into puberty during her introduction arc the moment they saw her.
** {{Underboobs}}: When wearing her bandeau.
** VaporWear: Wears her pants or skirt very low. This and her skirt's slit confirm that she doesn't wear any panties just like her AbsoluteCleavage confirms she doesn't wear a bra.
* FemmeFatale[=/=]TheTease: Flirts with pretty much anyone she meets.
* MadeOfIron: She can take a punch to the face from Touma's right hand, get up, and ''mock him''. It took a prolonged and devastating battle to finally bring her down.
* OjouRinglets: Two frame her face.
* PeekABangs: Her hair often covers her right eye.
* PretentiousLatinMotto: "The One Who Carries the Basis."
* ShowSomeLeg: She likes to cup her boobs and make sexy poses to distract male opponents.
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: She keeps her shorthand originals there.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Went along with Ridovia Lorenzetti's plan because she believed it would make the world a better place in the future, and that a few lives sacrificed in the process would be worth it.
* WildCard: Her loyalty is only to whoever pays her the most, and she will also change loyalties based on her personal code of ethics.
* VancianMagic: The basis of her powers.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She '''''DOES NOT''''' look 18.

[[folder:Brunhild Eiktobel]]
!!Brunhild Eiktobel

One of the 20 Saints in the world, who is also a Valkyrie and the main antagonist of the Norse Mythology SS, she went on a [[JustifiedTrope very, very, justified]] RoaringRampageOfRevenge against the five greatest Norse Cabals after an incident that involved those five cabals, with over a thousand members each, [[TheresNoKillLikeOverKill obliterated her own small cabal of thirty people]] [[BlatantLies to preserve Norse Mythology]].
* AntiVillain: All she wanted to do was use the power of a god to [[spoiler: save a child.]]
* AncestralWeapon: [[spoiler: Gungnir.]]
* ArcNumber: Without knowing it, she used the Christian 3 on [[spoiler: Gungnir.]]
* [[spoiler: TheAloner: After her cabal's destruction, at the time before meeting Ceillier.]]
** [[spoiler: TheAtoner: After being unable to save him.]]
* {{BFS}}: Her Claymore.
* {{Badass}}: Fought with Kanzaki and came close to winning.
* BodyHorror: She inflicted this on ''every'' single magician who she had a grudge against.
* BornWinner: As a Saint and a Valkyrie, she was born with both of those powers. However, she can't use both at the same time.
* BreakTheCutie[=/=]BrokenBird: [[TearJerker One of the worst cases in the series.]]
* ChekhovsGunman[=/=]{{Foreshadowing}}:[[spoiler: Her actions and the knowledge she holds make her this. She crafted a new Gungnir and has the proper knowledge to do so through the Final Rune. Now Othinus, GREMLIN's head honcho, is seeking Gungnir.]]
* ColdBloodedTorture: What they did to her.
** [[BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil Being Tortured Makes You Pissed Off]]
* CynicismCatalyst: [[spoiler:Ceillier's apparent death drove her to villainy.]]
* ElementalPowers: With [[spoiler: Gungnir's]] power, she can control all the elements and natural phenomenon.
* ItsAllMyFault[=/=]MyGreatestFailure: The destruction of her Cabal and [[spoiler: Ceillier's fate.]]
* LightningBruiser: She's a Saint ''and'' a Valkyrie. She can not only move faster than the speed of sound, but she can also swing a sword so fast that it can generate a sonic boom that can cause all the windows of a building to shatter merely by being in the same direction of her swing.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Hel, as they named her. She planned to live up to it.
-->'''Brunhild''': Like the hands of a clock, I am now inexorably approaching you as you lie their unmoving. Once I arrive, I will act true to the name of Hel that you forced upon me by sending each and every one of you to the underworld.
* Myth/NorseMythology: Most of her magic is based on it.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[JustifiedTrope Justified after what they did.]] [[spoiler: After destroying her Cabal 5 years ago, they dug up the graves she made for those children and fed their bodies to wolves, they attacked small Norse cabal after small Norse cabal to make sure they all felt so threatened that they would not help her, they killed some children with no connection to magic just because they spoke to her when she collapsed on the ground, tortured her and put the last little kid who gave her hope in the hospital.]] Really, the only reason Kanzaki stopped her was because she was ordered to.
* PowerLimiter: When her Saint Powers and Valkyrie Powers are at the same level during the Half-Moon, she loses access to both.
* PretenderDiss: Mocks GREMLIN member Hel as an idiot for trying to emulate the Norse goddess, pointing out that ''she'' used to have that title.
* ThrowTheDogABone: [[spoiler:In New Testament Volume 4, it is revealed that that the charges were dropped against her after she helped out in WorldWarIII. Not only that, the boy she wanted to save woke up, although he is in a hospital now.]]
* {{Valkyries}}: She was born as one.
* WeatherManipulation: Absolute control over weather phenomena.
* WillfullyWeak: She holds back a lot of strength when facing Mikoto, although she's still far beyond normal humans in terms of strength and speed. Of course, her heart wasn't fully into the fight, given the reason behind it.
* YouCantFightFate: A central theme of Norse Stories, as well as the destiny of Saints. People around them ''will'' be hurt for their sakes.

[[folder:Jeans Slasher]]
!!Jeans Slasher

A mysterious Valkyrie who Kaori Kanzaki meets in Volume [=SS2=], assaulting people in the streets of London and cutting up their jeans. She disappears after a brief battle and is not seen again.
* ArcNumber: She invokes the number nine for her spell Nine Support.
* {{BFS}}: She carries one.
* BornWinner: As a Valkyrie, she was born with her power.
* ChainmailBikini: It is made of steel interwoven with cloth.
* ClothingDamage: Inflicts it by slashing people's jeans skillfully enough to avoid cutting their legs.
* DarkActionGirl[=/=]LightningBruiser: She's strong, fast, and skilled enough to contend with Kaori.
* ItAmusedMe: The reason she gives when Kaori asks her why she's cutting up people's jeans. That and she's a sadist.
* MsFanservice: Milks her appearance for all it's worth to seduce the men around her.
* NoNameGiven: She never identifies herself. She's referred to as Jeans Slasher for what she does.
* OperaGloves: Wears cow-print gloves.
* PeoplePuppets: Her spell Nine Support causes a man's shadow to turn into nine girls, who latch onto the man and control his movements. The greater the victim's lust toward Jeans Slasher, the harder it is for him to resist.
* TheTease: Flirts with any man she meets.
* ThighHighBoots: Wears cow-print boots.
* {{Valkyries}}: She was born as one.

[[folder:Richard Brave]]
!!Richard Brave
A former member of Necessarius who defected and vowed revenge against them for dissing his invention, Lævateinn. In the SP Volume, he attempts to capture Patricia Birdway to use her in a plot to acquire the Alaskan Runes, which would have given him great power that could help his plans for revenge, only to be defeated by Stiyl Magnus and Theodosia Electra.
* FateWorseThanDeath: After his defeat, Dawn-Colored Sunlight takes him into their custody, and imply that his torture will know no bounds, as punishment for trying to harm Patricia.
* FlamingSword: Lævateinn, a sword of his own creation that apparently burns so hot it can effortlessly annihilate anything, even a lake or concrete. However, see PostModernMagik.
* ForTheEvulz: He tried to trick Patricia into touching a Grimoire, which would have blown her arm off, for no reason other than his own amusement. Fortunately, Stiyl stopped her in time.
* TheHeretic: He was labeled as such for using a scientific concept to perfect Lævateinn. This really pissed him off and caused him to turn evil.
* NotSoDifferent: Stiyl sees a little of himself in Richard and feels slight sympathy for his motivation. The only reason why Stiyl is not branded TheHeretic even though he uses PostModernMagik as well is that the people who judge these things are arbitrary hypocrites. Had things been a little different, Richard and Stiyl's positions could have been reversed.
* PostModernMagik: In reality, Lævateinn's flames are about average in power. He secretly sprays invisible ink (Vitamin B2 to be precise) on his targets in the shape of runes that when activated by ultraviolet light cause them to become extremely flammable. It was because of this that he was labeled TheHeretic.
* RuleOfSymbolism: Lævateinn is based on Surtur's FlamingSword from Myth/NorseMythology. Stiyl is quick to point out that it is a far cry from its mythological counterpart once the trick with the invisible ink runes is thwarted.
* WouldHitAGirl[=/=]WouldHurtAChild: Doesn't hesitate to try to kill Theodosia for standing in his way. He also doesn't care if he maims Patricia in the process of capturing her.

[[folder:Mikoto's Mother]]
!!Misuzu Misaka

-> Voiced by: Creator/EmiShinohara (JP), Barrett Nash (EN)

Misuzu Misaka is Mikoto's mother, first appeared in volume 9 and again in volume 10, Volume SS and Volume [=SS2=]. Currently studying at a university. Mikoto often comments her mother acts more like a child than she herself is. Misuzu is very weak to alcohol, and after getting drunk she has a habit of clinging to a young guy she finds attractive, as Touma and Accelerator found out in [=SS1=], when she got drunk and clung onto Accelerator, who called a taxi to take her to her accommodation.
* AlliterativeName: '''M'''isuzu '''M'''isaka
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents[=/=]DotingParent[=/=]ShipperOnDeck: She's overly happy about Mikoto "seeing" Touma (whom she calls "the boy you care about so much"), much to Mikoto's embarrassment.
* BiTheWay: While drunk, she tells Touma and Accelerator (who she was also flirting with) that she wouldn't mind getting it on with a girl.
* CantHoldHerLiquor: Gets drunk very easily.
* {{Hammerspace}}[=/=]BagOfHolding: Somehow the ingredients and tools for cheese fondue fit all in her bag in Season 2 Episode 11.
* MamaBear: She planned to make Mikoto move out of Academy City when she felt it had become too dangerous. She relents when she realizes Mikoto has people like Touma to protect her.
* OlderThanSheLooks: Though it doesn't come ''quite'' naturally.
* OneOfTheKids: Her immaturity is a constant source of exasperation for her more mature ''fourteen year old'' daughter.
* SentimentalDrunk: Gets very happy and flirts with everybody while intoxicated.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Of Mikoto. Also a source of confusion for Touma and his dad, both of whom mistook her for Mikoto's older sister.

[[folder:Mikoto's Father]]
!!Tabikake Misaka

Mikoto's father, who first appears in Volume [=SS2=]. His self-created job description is [[WalkingTheEarth "Finding the flaws in this world and correcting them".]] He seems to be interested in gemstone espers.
* BadassBoast: Remember, he pretty clearly knows exactly who he's talking to here.
-->'''Tabikake''': It's true that there may not be anything in this world that can take you [Aleister] out in one blow. However, my job is to point out what this world lacks. [[folder:Touma's Father]]
!!Toya Kamijou

-> Voiced by: Creator/KenjiNomura (JP), Creator/ChristopherSabat (EN)

Touma's dad. He is a traveling businessman who has a habit of collecting dozens upon hundreds of good-luck charms in an attempt to alleviate Touma's own bad luck.
* BadassBystander: [[spoiler:In [=SS2=], he saves the Gemstone Girl from the thugs chasing her.]]
* ChickMagnet: Now we know where Touma got it from. Unlike Touma, he's prone to flirting back, even if his wife is standing right next to him.
* GiveHimANormalLife: Inverted. Due to Touma's misfortune, the people around him treated him like a plague, and he was even abducted and brutally beaten. Toya, completely terrified at the prospect of Touma actually being killed by these overly superstitious people, sent Touma to Academy City, where "superstition doesn't exist", immediately after he graduated from kindergarten.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Has no idea about magic and the full extent of Touma's adventures.
* MaleGaze: Ogles any attractive girl he meets, much to his wife's chagrin.
* MikeNelsonDestroyerOfWorlds: Cast Angel Fall by accident. He never learns about this.
* OffScreenMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler:In [=SS2=], he goes on an adventure with his Co-Worker, Tabikake, and Gemstone Girl while trying to escape from her pursuers. * PapaWolf: He admits that he isn't a good fighter, but he'll be damned if he were to just stand there and watch his son get hurt.
* ShipperOnDeck: Is happy to see Touma interacting with girls, mostly Sasha Croitsef.
* UnwantedHarem: Similar to Touma, he seems to attract nearly any girl he meets, which enrages his wife and his jealous coworkers.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Like Touma, only no one's intentionally dragging him into things nor does he have Imagine Breaker nullifying his luck. According to his co-worker, this happens all the time (without his wife's knowledge of course). Let's see what he's coincidently caused so far:
** [[spoiler:Causes Angel Fall by accident, successfully summoning Archangel Gabriel and nearly destroying the world.]]
** [[spoiler:Met Ridovia Lorenzetti in Italy and moved her with his willingness to help his son, changing her views of the Japanese and deciding to capture Academy City in a peaceful manner, thus setting off the events of the Daihasei Festival Arc.]]
** [[spoiler:While in South America, he helped give a young girl at a train station directions. Later that night, he encounters not only Tabikake Misaka, but also the same girl again (whom turns out to be a Gemstone, one of less than 50 in the world) being chased by a group of men in black. They end up spending the night escaping and eventually faking their deaths by somehow blowing up a Cessna airplane while it's in the air.]]

[[folder:Touma's Mother]]
!!Shina Kamijou

-> Voiced by: Creator/KikukoInoue (JP), Creator/LydiaMackay (EN)

Touma's mom and Toya's wife. She is a famous paraglider.
* BarelyThereSwimwear: Wore this at the beach during the Angel Fall arc, much to Toya's delight and Touma's horror. ''Especially'' since Touma was seeing her as Index at the time.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Really hates it when her husband attracts other girls.
--> [[DissonantSerenity (In a disturbingly sweet and gentle voice)]] "Toya-san, you're doing it ''again!!''"
* {{Fangirl}}: Of TeenIdol Hajime Hitotsui.
* HeavySleeper: It is mentioned that she can easily sleep through a huge commotion.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Has no idea about magic and the full extent of not only Touma's, but also Toya's adventures.
* OlderThanSheLooks: Misuzu is annoyed because while they both look younger than their actual ages, Misuzu has to work at it and it therefore doesn't work as well. It is mentioned that she is roughly the same age as Toya, but she looks like she's in her early twenties while he's starting to go gray.
* YamatoNadeshiko: As long as she's not mad.

[[folder:Touma's Cousin]]
!!Otohime Tatsugami

Touma's young cousin. So far, her only appearance was during the Angel Fall arc, where she spent most of it blissfully unaware she was in the body of Mikoto Misaka, frustrating Touma to no end.
* GenkiGirl: She is an eternally cheerful little girl.
* TheGlomp: She's constantly jumping on and clinging to Touma.
* KissingCousins: She flirts with Touma at times and claims there is nothing wrong with that.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Has no idea about magic and Touma's adventures.
* MeaningfulName: Her full name means "Youngest Princess of the Dragon King/God". This is a bit significant considering Touma's connection with dragons.

[[folder:Patricia Birdway]]
!!Patricia Birdway

Sister of Leivinia Birdway of Dawn-Colored Sunlight, she has no knowledge of Magic, but is an important Political figure and therefore can not be allowed to become an Esper. She was involved in a case dealing with Alaskan Runes (The Stiyl SS in volume SP).
* BodyguardCrush: Implied with Stiyl because of RescueRomance.
* DefiantStoneThrow: Throws some rocks at Richard Brave. They don't hurt him, but the act gives Stiyl enough time to recover.
* GeniusDitz: She's very intelligent, to the point she's skipped grades and has been invited as a guest researcher on several fields, but she just doesn't get magic. Somewhat justified considering that most of what she hears about magic comes in the form of {{Magibabble}} completely lacking in context.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Doesn't know about the Magic Side and has no idea that Leivinia and her friends are magicians. She thinks Dawn-Colored Sunlight is just a club Leivinia hangs out at.
* MoralityPet: Her sister doesn't treat others like humans the majority of the time, but messing with Patricia is one way to get your whole organization destroyed, treaty between Science and Magic or not. Not to mention whatever she did to Richard Brave.
* PolarOppositeTwins: She and her sister look identical, but their personalities are completely opposite of each other.

* HeartwarmingOrphan: Revealed to be her backstory in [=NT7=].
* {{Kawaiiko}}
* LastNameBasis: To show how carefree and uncaring towards authority Maika is, she is characterized as habitually referring to people by their family names ''without'' adding the polite "-sama" suffix that a maid is ''required by professional conduct'' to do.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Has no idea about the Magic Side, the Dark Side of Academy City, and about Motoharu's adventures. [[spoiler: Her death gets faked and later Motoharu's death is faked without her noticing.]]

* NotBloodSiblings: [[spoiler:Motoharu didn't even have a sister originally. However, when he was about to spy on Academy City for the Magic Side, it was suggested to him to take a girl with him and pretend they were siblings, all to make his cover story more plausible.]]
* OddFriendship: Gets along quite well with Himegami.
* ServileSnarker: Unlike a normal maid, not only does Maika shows absolutely ''no'' subservience towards the people she serves, but openly teases them about subjects that might cause discomfort. Nevertheless, she is friendly enough about it to not cause any lasting offense.

* GreenEyedMonster: Is this to both Hamazura and Accelerator's respective harems, who immediately show vicious jealousy towards her.
* HasTwoDaddies: Shiage Hamazura and Hattori Hanzou; there's even been an official artwork picture of all three of them having dinner together.

* {{Mundanger}}: He's just an ordinary serial killer, with no connection to the Science or Magic sides.

* MakeMeWannaShout: By yelling into a megaphone or other sound amplification device, she can amplify her voice to the point of creating explosive shockwaves. She apparently requires the sound amplification devices, as when Shizuri Mugino destroys them, she makes no attempt to fight back with her regular voice.

!!Nonhuman Beings

A mysterious entity whose identity is unknown, except for the fact that it is the former mentor of Aleister Crowley and the one who provided him the knowledge to write the Book of Law. It is currently the most powerful entity introduced in the series.
* AboveGoodAndEvil: Declares that it doesn't care about morality, only about observing interesting things.
* AlwaysABiggerFish: Inverted. As far as we know, Aiwass is the ''biggest'' fish.
** [[spoiler: Might not be the case anymore, with the existence of a group of Magic Gods having been revealed, and themselves talking of Aiwass as a "failure"]].
* AmbiguousGender: Described as being more feminine than masculine in appearance, generally referred to with male pronouns. Most likely cannot be considered as actually having a gender.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: As a being from the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeon_(Thelema) Aeon of Horus]], its morality is radically different from those of the Aeon of Osiris. It appears to understand human morality but is fundamentally uninterested by its very nature. Instead, its actions are guided entirely by what it finds interesting.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: A little bit. After beating down Accelerator in Volume 19, how does the nigh omnipotent angelic being choose to contact and converse with Aleister...? With a ''cell phone'' of course.
* ChekhovsGunman: "DRAGON" was first mentioned at the end of Volume 15. It becomes the driving force of Volume 19.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler: Delivers one to ''Accelerator'' of all people, slaughtering him with his ''passive defenses''.]]
* DeathSeeker: [[spoiler:He wants Accelerator to kill him in order to force Aleister to recalculate his plans. However, Accelerator fails to do so since Aleister made Aiwass's defenses ''too'' powerful.]]
* EnigmaticEmpoweringEntity: To Aleister.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Probably not ''[[BlueAndOrangeMorality truly]]'' bad, but definitely morally ambiguous. It's currently in a position of non-interference though, unless something interests it.
* GuardianEntity: Possibly one for Aleister.
%%* HolyHalo: As seen in the picture.
* HumanoidAbomination: Aiwass is very clearly not human despite looking like one. It does not possess emotions as Accelerator is capable of understanding though it seems to display many at once. It can sprout wings, but those wings are so unworldly and bizarre that Accelerator is not even sure what's strange about them. It understands human morality, but seems completely indifferent. The only things that muster Aiwass' attention are the interesting things humans may do. It even finds the idea of being killed an interesting one with no thought given to self preservation. Finally, [[StarfishLanguage it cannot even convey what it is in human language and has to instead get by on approximations.]]
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Not that it expressed interest in doing so, but Aleister put an automatic self defense system on it so that it can't even try.
* IntriguedByHumanity: A reason Aiwass claims for doing the things it does. [[spoiler: It is ''very'' interested in Touma Kamijou, Accelerator, Shiage Hamazura, and Teitoku Kakine. At one point, Hyouka Kazakiri warns that if Aiwass continues to screw with humanity, they will eventually rise up and destroy it. Aiwass responds that if humanity has the potential to be capable of that, then humanity is truly interesting.]]
* ItAmusedMe: The reason for everything it does.
* NighInvulnerability: At least, to beings from the Aeon of Osiris.
* [[spoiler: OneWingedAngel: After defeating Accelerator, Aiwass comments that Aleister programmed a "transformation" option into its physical form -- no doubt it will be this.]]
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Although ''how'' different is a matter of debate. No one is even sure if it's an angel in the first place. Aiwass says that that's basically close enough to what it is.
* PhysicalGod: The most powerful character yet introduced.
* PowerGivesYouWings: Sprouts golden wings when it powers up.
* PublicDomainCharacter: Aiwass was the name of a voice that the historical Aleister Crowley heard on April 8, 9, and 10 in 1904. Crowley claimed that this voice dictated The Book of the Law to him.
* RapunzelHair: Again, see the picture.
* StarfishAliens: A possibility. Aiwass mentions that even if it vanishes, it'll be back in another 10, 000 or 100, 000 years, since it's not of this world in the first place.
* StarfishLanguage: Aiwass is momentarily confused by the language of humanity not being able to express several concepts it is trying to convey. This is generally translated as a bunch of gibberish surrounding a word that is close to what it means but not quite right.
-->''Although, born is not quite the right word. It would be more correct to say uyAPPEARidvif… damn, the language cannot keep up. Rather than ‘born’, let us say ‘appeared’. That is not technically correct, but I cannot express it any better than that.''
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler:Without malice, Aiwass points out that the three main irregularities in Aleister's plans are all more heroic and determined. Touma is a hero by doing what comes naturally to him, Accelerator is TheAtoner and Shiage achieves the status of a hero by protecting someone important to him. Aleister, on the other hand, merely fell into darkness. Aleister is clearly rattled by this declaration.]]
* ThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow: One of the members of Academy City's Board of Directors stated he wished he never knew of Aiwass in the first place.
* WeaksauceWeakness: [[spoiler: It cannot manifest in the physical world unless the area is saturated with AIM.]]
* [[spoiler:YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm: Accelerator can't quite grasp what Aiwass even ''is'' and that its wings look bizarre and unworldly, but not in a way he can even explain.]]

[[folder:Hyouka Kazakiri]]
!!Hyouka Kazakiri
!!!''The Key to the Imaginary Number District''

-> Voiced by: Creator/KanaAsumi (Japanese) and Creator/AlexisTipton (English)

Index's first "friend" in Academy City. She is gentle, quiet, and shy. She has a tendency to cry easily.

It is later revealed that she is actually an aggregation of AIM from espers. A special code from the Radio Noise network allows her to manifest as the Artificial Angel, FUZE=Kazakiri.
* AndIMustScream: Most of the time, she is invisible, inaudible, and intangible and wanders Academy City without anybody to talk to. She eventually learned to make herself solid, but she can't keep it up indefinitely. Fortunately, she doesn't let it get her down, especially since she can observe what everybody is doing and keep tabs on her friends, ready to become solid and help them.
* ArtificialHuman: Of a sort, although her classification in the series is an angel.
* BadassAdorable
* BoobsOfSteel: One of the most powerful characters in the series and has a huge rack.
* {{Cosplay}}: Like Index, she's a fan of the show "Magical Powered Kanamin", and once dressed up as the villain.
* {{Gainaxing}}: In the anime, at any rate.
* HumanoidAbomination: She is actually the conscious form of the aggregation of the AIM Dispersion Fields of espers in Academy City, the Imaginary Number District.
* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler: She (her human form and consciousness at least) was born when Touma's Imagine Breaker, something that can destroy her with one touch, entered Academy City for the first time. Her fear of death gave her life.]]
* MacGuffinGirl: [[spoiler:As the key to the Imaginary Numbers District and her connection to the MISAKA network, she is needed in Aleister's plan to create an Artificial Heaven.]]
%%* {{Meganekko}}: As seen in the picture.
* [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]]: Always helps Index and gives her advice.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Via the use of the Misaka Network and a special code, she becomes the artificial angel, FUZE=Kazakiri.
** ComboPlatterPowers: Her powers while in FUZE=Kazakiri mode manifest as:
*** AntiMagic: Since her manifestation as FUZE=Kazakiri requires large amounts of AIM, her presence essentially causes nearby sorcerers to be damaged due to the toxicity of AIM to sorcerers.
*** {{Flight}}: As FUSE=Kazakiri and at several times the speed of sound.
*** ForceField: Is able to put one up.
*** FrickingLaserBeams: Can fire laser beams up to 10 kilometers in range.
*** HealingFactor: She can regenerate from any injury as long as her crystal core is unharmed.
*** InstantExpert: Had no trouble using all these abilities to fight Archangel Gabriel immediately after first accessing them.
*** LaserBlade: Her powers allow her to manifest one.
*** ShockAndAwe: Her wings are made of lightning.
*** SuperpowerLottery: According to the released [[PowerLevels Power Level]] charts, she's just a little bit less powerful than ArchangelGabriel and fully-Awakened Accelerator.
*** SuperStrength: Once she learns her true nature, she's strong enough to cave in concrete. Later, she's able to contend with Archangel Gabriel.
** HolyHalo: A halo with rods extending from it forms over her head.
* PluckyGirl: Once she overcomes her fears, nothing can stop her from saving her friends.
* PowerGlows: Overall on her hair.
* ShrinkingViolet: In regular situations, she is very shy and rarely speaks up.
* TomatoInTheMirror: First learned of her true nature when [[spoiler: flying debris ''breaks her head in half.'' Her body is hollow with a strange crystal inside. Her injury heals up]]. Before this, she though she was just a normal human being and she didn't take the revelation well until Touma assures her that he and Index don't feel any differently toward her.
* TookALevelInBadass: First during the invasion of Sherry Cromwell and then a great one against Archangel Gabriel resulting on a BigDamnHeroes plus a CrowningMomentOfAwesome.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Several characters dismiss her as a mockery of life, an artificial angel. She despairs until Touma reassures her that he and Index don't care about that, she is still their friend and a being that is alive and deserves to exist.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She is subconsciously afraid of coming near [[spoiler:Imagine Breaker, since it would erase her from existence if she touches it. Touma assures her that it is a good thing, since her fear of death proves that she is alive.]]
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:She's 10 years old.]]

!!ArchangelGabriel[=/=][[spoiler:Misha Croitsef]]
!!!The Power of God

A Christian Archangel and one of the most powerful ''beings'' (note '''not''' "characters") in the series, Gabriel rules over the attribute of water, as well as the moon. It first appears in the Angel Fall arc, as the eponymous angel.
* AboveGoodAndEvil: Starts out with no desire or will of its own except that of God, neither good or evil. Later, after it gains free will, it states that it doesn't care about morality, only about accomplishing its goals.
* AmbiguousGender: The narration refers to it as female, due to its body being modeled after [[spoiler:Sasha Croitsef.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: Its first appearance is in the Angel Fall arc.
* CurbStompBattle: The entire might of both France and England couldn't do ''shit'' to him... er, ''her''... [[AmbiguousGender whatever]].
* GuardianEntity: For Fiamma.
%%* HolyHalo: As seen in the picture.
* MakingASplash: The authority on water control.
* [[ManipulativeBastard Manipulative...]] [[AmbiguousGender Something]] [[BuffySpeak or Other...]]: Mostly shown during the Angel Fall arc.
* NighInvulnerability: Able to withstand attacks from the world's military, and even from Accelerator.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: When it is not in a human host, it does not look human, as seen in the picture.
* PhysicalGod: Gabriel is second only to Michael in power among the Archangels.
* StarfishLanguage: Apparently sounds like complete gibberish/static and contains concepts that cannot be translated. [[spoiler:Hyouka can basically understand it, though. Gabriel seems to be under the impression that she's an actual angel and tries to get her to help!]]
* SweetTooth: Likes candy, as the sweet taste reminds it of the grace of God.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Upon seeing it on the battlefield, Elizalina wonders why on Earth Fiamma would summon something with such massive power for any threat humans could possibly face. Note: Archangels are perfectly capable of destroying the Earth not only without trying, but as side effects to goals they feel are more important. This puts Gabriel's very ''summoning'' in this category.
* WorfHadTheFlu: In every instance that it was summoned, Gabriel was no where near its true power. The closest was when [[spoiler:Fiamma succeeded in correcting the elemental misalignment and Touma destroyed Index's control device, making Gabriel whole once again. However, even that left it at mere fraction of its full strength due to the Telesma drained by Acqua and its injuries sustained in its battle against FUZE=KAZAKIRI and Accelerator. Stiyl hypothesized that even absorbing all the water on Earth wouldn't be enough to bring it back to full strength.]]

!!Fraulein Kreutune

A mysterious woman seemingly held prisoner in the Windowless Building. She was released in New Testament Vol. 5.
* AdaptiveAbility: Starts out seemingly normal, then it turns out that she rapidly absorbs information around her to evolve. [[spoiler: Aleister Crowley states that it would take about 2300 years for her to become the UltimateLifeForm at her current rate of development, but if she were to [[ImAHumanitarian eat Last Order's brain]] and gain access to the Misaka Network, it would take a mere 3 seconds.]]
* [[spoiler:CannibalismSuperpower[=/=]HorrorHunger: In NT 6, she evolves into being able to eat a person to gain their powers and memories. Fraulein eats it and her hunger is satiated.]]
** [[spoiler:ExtremeOmnivore: While she's not seen as capable of eating everything, she was able to eat an AIM being.]]
* CompleteImmortality: She's existed since the witch hunts in the Middle Ages. Nothing seems to be able to harm her.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Even after befriending the others and having the opportunity to acquire clothes, she still wanders around barefoot.
* [[spoiler:TheDreaded: Aleister kept her isolated in the Windowless Building, unable to absorb any information, because he is terrified of what she can do once she evolves. He believes she can jeopardize his plan.]]
* EmotionlessGirl[=/=]TheSpock: Justified as she starts out with no memories. However this is changing as her mind is stimulated by the info she absorbs. [[spoiler: At the end of NT Vol 5, she declares that Last Order and Fremea are her friends.]]
* TheFogOfAges: She does not remember her origins nor her original name.
* [[spoiler:FountainOfYouth: After eating Cendrillon's fake Last Order, she turns into a little girl.]]
* GirlInTheTower: While she was imprisoned.
* TheGlomp: Starts doing this all the time near the end of NT Vol 6, believing it is what friends normally do.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Because she is immortal.
* LivingMacGuffin: GREMLIN wants to capture her, believing that her unique nature can help them achieve their plans. [[spoiler:After her hunger is cured, Thor and Marian decide she cannot be useful anymore and abandon their attempts to get her.]]
* NighInvulnerability: Witch hunt tortures like burning and crushing had no effect on her. Even an attack from ''Accelerator'' only knocked her back a little.
* NoSocialSkills: Possibly due to being trapped in the Windowless Building for so long, and seemingly having no memories.
* PoisonousPerson: She can insert a microscopic substance in a target. Living beings merely get sick or faint, due to the immune system acting up similar to organ rejection. In a foreign object, the substance can expand until it breaks.
* RapunzelHair: It goes down to her ankles.
* SensorCharacter: She can detect electricity like a shark can.
* TheStoic[=/=]TheQuietOne: Only speaks when someone directly speaks to her.
* [[spoiler:ToThePain: She informs Hisako Yakumi that she won't finish eating her until she finished reflecting on herself.]]
* {{Stripperific}}: She's introduced in a transparent dress and pink bra and panties.
* UncannyValley: In-universe. Touma says that although she looks normal, it feels like something is off about her appearance.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: She starts feeling this way when [[spoiler: she is driven by instinct to try to eat Last Order. She calls herself a monster for not being able to resist and realizes she can't even commit suicide or be killed, since she can't be harmed. Touma restores her will to live by satiating her hunger peacefully.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Hers is silver/lavender.

A magically created elfin girl encountered by Kanzaki in the Norse Mythology SS. Her presence causes living beings exposed to her to undergo accelerated evolution.
* DeathSeeker: After learning what she does to other living beings, she seeks to find a way to return herself to a fossil (as merely dying and becoming a corpse wouldn't be enough to stop the change).
* FossilRevival: How she was created.
* PointyEars: She's an elf after all.
* PowerIncontinence: She has no control over the twisted evolution that she causes in other living beings.
* RestrainingBolt: Similar to Aisa Himegami, she is given a cross by Necessarius to suppress her ability and allow her to interact with others safely.

!!Krans R. Tsarskiy

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler: His Seven Deadly Sins spell works both ways and allows Touma to neutralize him by pinning him with every sin except lust.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's 15 and looks like a small child.
* PuppetKing: During the WorldWarIII arc, he was imprisoned in his own palace and used as a figurehead. Vasilisa eventually rescued him.
* SevenDeadlySins: [[spoiler: Uses a spell based on the Seven Deadly Sins against Touma in NT 10. The spell robs the target of 1/7th of their strength for each sin the user accuses them of. Once all sins are pinned the target won't have enough strength to breathe or have a heartbeat. The spell can be neutralized by refuting the accusations of sin.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Upon being rescued from imprisonment, he's taken back his role as leader of the Russian Orthodox Church and acted like a true professional. He signed the final document that officially ended WorldWarIII.
* UnwittingPawn: He ended up helping start WorldWarIII when he signed his signature on a dummy document. His signature was then transferred to a declaration of war.

* YoungAndInCharge: Again, he's 15.

[[folder:Sasha Croitsef]]
!!Sasha Croitsef

-> Voiced by: Yuka Terasaki (JP), Kate Oxley (EN)

An exorcist and operative of ''Annihilatus'' from the Russian Orthodox Church, Sasha's first appearance in the story was during the ''"Angel Fall"'' story arc, where she was possessed by the fallen ArchangelGabriel who was looking for the true culprit of Angel Fall.
* BadassAdorable: Supposedly, underneath all that bondage gear, she's actually quite cute... ''Supposedly...''
%%* BlindingBangs: As seen in the picture.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler: ArchangelGabriel reappears once again as Misha Croitsef in Volume 21 after Fiamma summons it.]]
* CreepyMonotone: During the rare times she actually speaks.
* DropTheHammer: Her usual weapon is a hammer that she's strong enough to smash through walls with.
* ExposedToTheElements: She wears her skimpy bondage outfit in the snow at Vasilia's insistence, using magic to keep warm. If it were up to her, she would wear weather-appropriate clothing so she would not have to waste magic this way.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Apparently, she ''loves'' Brandy and Vodka, and even drinks up during work when she isn't supposed to. At least, she has a very high tolerance.
* InverseLawOfFertility: The leftover telesma in her body has caused her to become unable to bear children, which causes her quite a bit of angst. Not to mention that Vasilisa taunts her over it.
* [[spoiler:MacGuffinGirl]]: [[spoiler:Fiamma of the Right is actively seeking her for the leftover telesma within her body so that he can summon an Archangel.]]
* SerratedBladeOfPain: In addition to her hammers, she carries a bunch of saws.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Lampshaded in the side story volumes. To be fair, she doesn't dress this way by choice. You can blame Vasilisa for that one.
* TheStoic: Hardly ever speaks or shows emotions unless she has to.
* VerbalTic: "My first question: How do I speak?" "My first answer: Like this."

* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler: Basically rolls over almost the entirety of the Russian Orthodox Church with almost no effort.]]
* HealingFactor: Thanks to drinking The Water of Life, she can heal from nearly any injury.
* HollywoodAcid: Her main weapon, The Water of Death, can reduce a person to bone with one splash.
* ImmortalityInducer: She has The Water of Life, which grants its drinker eternal life.
* MadeOfIron: Casually shrugs off getting hit over the head with a hammer.
* MamaBear: Concerning Sasha.
* [[OneManArmy One Woman Army]]: Easily defeats squads of assassins.
* PlayingWithFire: Can create fiery explosions based on how Literature/BabaYaga gave her namesake FlamingSkulls that burned her evil step-relatives to death.
* RuleOfSymbolism: She is based on the heroine of ''Literature/VasilissaTheBeautiful''.
* SuperStrength: She can easily overpower Sasha, who is strong enough to smash through walls.
* VocalDissonance: She sounds like a little girl when casting her magic.
* WildCard: Her only priority is Sasha's safety, and she'll do anything to ensure it.

* BadassNormal: Is able to match a Level 4 esper in combat.
* BadassPacifist: He hates conflict, but...
* BigBrotherInstinct: His reason for taking the leadership of Skill-Out is revealed to be this.
* CombatPragmatist: Jams Accelerator's connection with the MISAKA Network with the Chaff Seeds before fighting him.
* GeniusBruiser: Looks like a muscle-brained gorilla at first, but is actually pretty damn smart.
* HonorBeforeReason: Prohibits Skill-Out members from associating themselves with prostitution even if it's the fastest way to gather funds.
* LargeAndInCharge: He's built like a tank and very tall.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Under his leadership, Skill-Out's targets are only espers who misuse their powers.
* PapaWolf: To Fremea Seivelun during the brief time they knew each other.
* PoweredArmor: Hard Taping, a military grade armor which strengthens the body and provides speed, at the cost of muscle strain.
* SuicideByCop: He killed himself by firing at Accelerator knowing that the bullet would rebound into him. He knew that he had no future, and correctly predicted that Accelerator would take over his role as protector of the innocent.

Wataru is a character introduced in the ''Manga/ACertainScientificRailgun'' anime. He is a Skill-Out member and is the founder and former leader of one of the largest Skill-Out factions, Big Spider.
* BadassNormal: To the point another Skill-Out says that fighting skills are to Wataru what esper powers are to an Ability User.
* BerserkButton:
** "You're hitting girls? That is '''not''' cool."
** He'll also kick your ass if you make him drop his milk.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Mii Konori, who he sees as a surrogate little-sister. For Mii's part, she wishes it were something more...
* BloodKnight: He comments that he wishes the bad guys he defeats were better fighters so that his fights wouldn't be so boring.
* CastingGag: He has a few parallels with [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]], Katsuyuki's most famous role: both are eccentric BadassNormal {{Delinquents}} with signature tattoos and [[HeyItsThatVoice virtually the same "voice"]] out of Katsuyuki's [[ManOfAThousandVoices many]].
* ChivalrousPervert: The '''''rare''''' anime male that can sincerely make comments about a girl's figure '''without''' causing offense.
-->'''Kuroko:''' A gentleman talking about my chest?\\
'''Mikoto:''' In a strangely unperverted manner...
* FaceOfAThug: Averted; in spite of being the ''singular'' most {{Badass}} Level Zero in Academy City, he has easily the kindest and gentlest appearance of ''all'' the males in the franchise, Touma included.
* FirstLove: For Mii Konori.
* HonorBeforeReason: After taking down the now corrupt Big Spider and proving himself a hero, he turns himself in to the police, just because he ''used'' to be a criminal.
* NiceGuy: If he's not fighting you, he's one of the warmest, most tender souls.
* OneManArmy: Stands out in Academy City for being a ''real'' Level 0 (unlike Touma) who is able to neutralize ''dozens'' of armed combatants, including those with '''firearms''', with his Martial Arts abilities ''alone.'' It's quite likely that it's through his tutelage that Mii is such a formidable Martial Artist herself.
* PutOnABus: Literally, to jail. Do note though that he and Mii parted on ''very'' good terms.
* TattooedCrook: Subverted; his tattoo, which is badge of his loyalty to Big-Spider, does ''not'' stop him from being a kind gentleman and absolute sweetheart.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Musashino-brand milk.
* WifeBasherBasher: Plays it straighter than Touma.

* DirtyCoward: When the odds are against him, he quickly panics, uses his men as shields, etc.
* FallenHero: Under Wataru's leadership, Big Spider was merely an organization that protected Level 0s. Hebitani quickly turned it into a rabid gang out to kill all espers.
* HellBentForLeather: Wears the typical black leather jacket.
* HeroWorshipper: In his younger years, back when he wasn't corrupt, he deeply admired Wataru.
* IdentityImpersonator: Pretends to be Wataru Kurozuma, tarnishing Wataru's reputation.

!!Unaffiliated Characters

A strange little guy who almost became "Magic God" or "Majin". He effortlessly [[CurbStompBattle defeated]] Gunha simply to send a message to Aleister: Don't hurt the Gemstones. For reasons unknown, he is intent on protecting "Gemstone" Espers like Himegami, and ironically Gunha as well.
* AllLovingHero: He first intervened to secure the Gemstones' safety. Then, in the aftermath of World War 3, he saved [[spoiler:Fiamma after Aleister blasted him]]. He also doesn't really seem to like having chaining up child traffickers because, in his own words:
-->'''Ollerus''': Chaining those human traffickers up and making them do manual labor is no different than what they did. That isn’t what I want.
* {{Badass}}: He's cited as being one of the most powerful characters in the series, and when you have guys like Acqua and Accelerator running around, you KNOW that means something.
** BadassBookworm: Not a literal example. He has gained the knowledge of many grimoires by using the theory of Hliðskjálf to purifies his lifeforce, transforming it into a special magical energy. This barely allows him to survive the process of taking a grimoire's knowledge within him.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a really great guy who doesn't even like punishing child traffickers and sacrifices potential godhood to save kittens, but he's also capable of wiping the floor with Sogiita Gunha and is one of the most powerful magicians alive.
* [[spoiler:BigDamnHeroes]]: [[spoiler:In New Testament Vol. 4, he arrives with Fiamma of the Right to save Touma from One-Eyed Othinus.]]
** [[spoiler: In Volume 10 he appears in his newly [[BroughtDownToBadass depowered]] state to save Touma and Othinus from Silvia.]]
* BigGood: ''So far''. But given his WildCard status...
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:The fairy spell casted upon him greatly weakened his power, to the point where he is now weaker than the average magician. It doesn't stop him from defeating Silvia and Brunhild in NT 10.]]
* ButtMonkey: Is constantly on the receiving end of Silvia's abuse. Apart from a scream or two, or a spurt of genuine terror, he just [[IronButtmonkey takes it all in stride]].
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: He can't ignore anybody in trouble, even a villain. This is in stark contrast to Silvia, who only helps people if it benefits her to do so. His attitude severely irritates her and she can't understand why he wants to help everybody.
* CutenessProximity: He failed to become a Majin only because he didn't want to get a nearby kitten hurt.
* CurbStompBattle: He defeated Gunha, a {{Badass}} Level 5, without even ''trying''.
* MeaningfulName: The term Majin either means "God of Magic" or "Demon God". He is also named after a legendary figure in Myth/NorseMythology called Ullr, which is romanized as Ollerus.
** His life is also similar to said mythological figure as depicted in the ''Literature/GestaDanorum''. He has a spell known as Hliðskjálf, AKA the Throne of Odin, much like how the mythological Ollerus temporarily took Odin's throne. And when he lost his chance for title of Majin, it was given to One-Eyed Othinus, much like how Odin--Othinus in Latin--reclaimed his throne.
* MysteriousWatcher: [[spoiler: He's been watching Touma's entire fight against Fiamma and Gabriel, and in the end saves Fiamma's life.]] He has also expressed interest in Aleister's [[spoiler: Aeon of Horus.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: If you're a bad guy, ''oh yes''.
* [[spoiler:NiceJobBreakingItHero]]: [[spoiler:In New Testament Vol. 8, he and Fiamma tried to turn Othinus into a fairy because it would power her down from being a god, only for the attempt to rid Othinus of her 50/50 restriction and make her a perfect magic god.]]
* RealityWarper: His power is said to be utterly impossible to explain, but summing it up this way comes closest.
* TorchesAndPitchforks: About the entire Magic side is hunting him down because they seek his power, which is close to being a "Majin". [[CaptainObvious They all fail.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: [[spoiler: At the end of New Testament Vol 6, he infiltrates GREMLIN by transforming into Thor and taking his place.]]
* WildCard: He only cares about doing good. He's on nobody's side but his own.

One of the 20 Saints in the world, she is acquainted with Kanzaki Kaori and Knight Leader. She went away from England to hone her maid skills and in her travels met Ollerus. She calls him an idiot, but an idiot that needs to be cared for.
* {{Badass}}: If you can whip a RealityWarping magic god into submission, you're this.
* BarrierWarrior: She can create walls of Telesma that can deflect even Thor's attacks. She can also make minor shapes with them like hands.
* BornWinner: As a Saint.
* BystanderSyndrome: Her usual policy. If an event doesn't directly concern her, she doesn't care about it. She's really irritated about Ollerus helping people and dragging her into it.
* DestructiveSaviour: She got in trouble numerous times at Buckingham Palace for accidentally causing enormous damage to the palace while taking out assassins.
--> '''Thor:''' Y-You idiot!!
--> '''Silvia:''' I was called that a lot at Buckingham Palace too.
* FriendlyEnemy: Justified because of her BystanderSyndrome. Since she usually justs gets dragged into things, she doesn't take her battles seriously and is quite friendly with her opponent. That said, she's also a Saint and could utterly curb stomp most people into the ground in an instant if she so desired anyways.
* TheGadfly: Constantly tries to rile up Leivinia about Touma.
* LightningBruiser: She's a Saint, meaning she can move fast enough to break the sound barrier. She's also ridiculously strong, but her fighting style is designed to supress her own strength. Thor mentions he could not risk even blocking one of her punches otherwise the limb would explode.
* {{Meido}}: The ''Head Maid of the British Royal family'' no less. She hands down the divine right to rule from God to them. She doesn't seem to be coming back any time soon, though.
* PowerLimiter: She created her current fighting style to allow her to fight and yet still supress enough of her power so she wouldn't inadvertently destroy everything around her.
* RevengeBeforeReason: If anybody hurts Ollerus, she will make them suffer and then kill them, end of discussion. She doesn't even care if Ollerus forgives them.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A for Ollerus. She has been repeatedly been called to return to England, but didn't. Her reason is apparently so ridiculous to be put in words...
** A {{Fanon}} theory is that the supposed cat Ollerus saved instead of becoming a Magic God is actually her. She was the one who told the story, so it's possible she did that edit to maintain her pride.
* WhipItGood: Wields a whip. Often whips Ollerus when he annoys her.
* WildCard: She seems to not care about her duty with the British Royals, follows Ollerus, and is a Saint.

[[folder:The Maiden of Versailles]]
!!The Maiden of Versailles

The twin sister of Elizalina, and the enigmatic woman ruling France behind the scenes. She is apparently one of the most powerful magicians in Europe, but has been put on house arrest and stripped of all political influence by the French government.
* ActionGirl: In contrast to Elizalina, who is a WhiteMagicianGirl.
* EnemyMine: [[spoiler:Teams up with Carissa against ArchangelGabriel.]]
* {{Foil}}: To her sister, Elizalina.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Was originally supposed to be unable to leave the palace of Versailles because she had been altered so that she could only survive the environment at the palace (a condition that was meant to be a check on her power by France's government), which leads to a momentary OhCrap when she shows up on the battlefield in person.
* PublicDomainArtifact: Durandal, a sword said to have been forged from a shard of the Spear Of Longinus.
%%* WomanInWhite: As seen in the picture.

[[folder:Number Six]]
!!Etsu Aihana (real)
The mysterious sixth Level 5 Esper. Not much is known about this person, not even their gender. When the Daihaseisai committee was searching for the Level 5s in Chapter 43 of the Railgun manga, despite all the other Level 5s being located, the sixth couldn't be found, which had been expected to some degree. The sixth also appeared in the tenth volume of the New Testament, when a mass message was sent to the Level 5s requesting their participation in the elimination of Touma Kamijou and Othinus, with the sixth's response being silence and toying with the phone. They are frequently impersonated, with at least three fakes appearing in the series.

New Testament 12 reveals that their name is "Etsu Aihana", and that they employ Yokosuka the Organ Crusher to distribute their identity to those in need. Their motivation for this is currently unknown, though it's suggested that they're just trying to help people.
* GuileHero: If the end of New Testament 12 is any indication, he may be this.
* HelpingWouldBeKillstealing: The reason Aihana hasn't helped their imposters directly is because Aihana claims it's meaningless unless the imposters solve their problems themselves. Yokosuka calls them out on this, saying they looking down on them.
* LegacyCharacter: Distributing their identity to other people creates this effect.
* MasqueradingAsTheUnseen: Aihana's way of helping other people is by arranging the use of their identity, which no-one knows anything about.
* NoNameGiven: Like everything else about the character. New Testament 7 had an imposter #6 that introduced himself as "Etsu Aihana", but this was believed to fake until New Testament 12 revealed that "Etsu Aihana" actually is the real name of the sixth Level 5 esper.
* RunningGag: Expect any mention of #6 to be very quickly glossed over.
* TheGhost: Has yet to make their debut. Is known to exist by process of elimination, but nothing has been revealed about them.
** This actually becomes a plot point in New Testament 12; several people impersonate #6 because no-one knows anything about them. The end of the volume reveals that Aihana deliberately and secretly distributes their identity to those in need.

[[folder:Gunha Sogiita]]
!!Gunha Sogiita
!!!''[[ComboPlatterPowers The Attack Crash]]''

The seventh Level 5 esper, Gunha is a Gemstone, an esper who was born with his powers. His ability is nameless and absolutely impossible to define, though it allows him to create strange explosions, attack at twice the speed of sound, and recover from being shot in the head or heart with no pain. He is classified as the lowest Level 5 precisely because nobody understands his immense power, and thus they can't even guess where he really ranks. He has a strong sense of justice and believes that everything can be solved with '''GUTS'''.
* ApathyKilledTheCat: Has no desire to find out how his powers work and how to make better use of them, and even how to properly fight, as he thinks [[LeeroyJenkins barreling his way through]] is the way a man should fight. When he rushes into a situation, he never stops to ask what is going on and even brushes off people trying to explain the situation to him.
* AttackAttackAttack[=/=]LeeroyJenkins: His philosophy is to charge into situations without hesitation and punch any bad guys in sight, relying on '''GUTS''' to power through. He even brushes off people trying to explain the situation to him.
* {{Badass}}: Despite getting [[TheWorfEffect Worf'd]], he's still undeniably badass.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:He saves Touma from being crushed by a large ball of metal scrap controlled by Mikoto, who is under the effects of the Level 6 Shift attempt done on her.]]
* BloodKnight: He likes fighting strong opponents. [[spoiler:After seeing the dragon inside Touma, he admits he wants to fight him some day.]]
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Happens with Yabumi Haratani. Whenever Gunha gives out an explanation for his powers, Haratani ends up calling him on it, followed by Gunha responding with a dumbfounded variation of "Then what did I just do?" Gets [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Mikoto.
* BornWinner: Being a Gemstone, he was born with his esper abilities.
* CallingYourAttacks: "Amazing Puuunch!"
--> '''Yokosuka''': Please, just beat me with an attack that sounds like it's worth losing to at least. Not that Amazing Punch attack.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Even moreso than Touma. He's constantly wandering around Academy City helping people in need and will never turn down a request.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He's in his own little world where he's a superhero saving the world from bad guys, with '''GUTS!''' Case in point, when Mikoto tried her railgun attack on him, his first reaction was to scold her for taking an arcade coin out of the arcade.
** In New Testament Volume 7, while [[spoiler: heroes from all over Academy City were rushing to try to save Fremea and attacking each other as a result, Guhna was in the middle of it all unaffected by the project, and defending trees.]]
* CoatCape: Tends to wear his jacket like a cape. Appropriate since he thinks he's a superhero.
* ComboPlatterPowers: His power is stated to be impossible to define, and manifests in a variety of ways, including:
** DeflectorShield: Which is powerful enough to block Mikoto's electric attacks.
** HealingFactor: He can stop his bleeding and even reset his bones. To him, all it takes to recover is '''GUTS!'''
** MakeMeWannaShout: He can scream loud enough to cushion his fall and make the surroundings rattle, forcing everybody nearby to cover their ears.
** NighInvulnerability: Even without his forcefield, it is very difficult to inflict damage on him.
** StuffBlowingUp: He can create a strange explosion around him that throws people away.
** SuperSpeed: He can move at Mach 2.
** SuperStrength: As evidenced in his Amazing Punch.
** {{Teleportation}}: He has a lot shorter range than Kuroko, though.
* {{Determinator}}: He repeatedly gets back up during his fight with Ollerus despite being totally outclassed.
* EarlyBirdCameo / ContinuityCameo: [[http://www.mangareader.net/1080-40270-5/to-aru-kagaku-no-choudenjibou/chapter-15.html Appears]] unnamed in one of the memories of a Level Upper user (possibly Yabumi Haritani) during the AIM Burst phenomenon in Chapter 15 of the Railgun manga, well before Gunha's actual first appearance in Chapter 44. Witnessing Gunha's amazing power appears to have been the catalyst for that esper to use the Level Upper in the first place.
* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: Spoofed. See ItRunsOnNonsensoleum below.
* {{Foil}}: To Touma. Mikoto even wonders if they know each other after Gunha is able to withstand her electrical attacks. [[spoiler:Railgun Chapter 63 has them meeting and teaming up to subdue a supercharged and "not herself" Mikoto.]]
* ForGreatJustice: Making the world a kinder and gentler place..... one ass-kicked villain at a time.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: His high school teacher notes that he misses school to help people all the time (just like [[TheHero Touma]]), yet we've barely seen any of it.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite having super speed and teleportation, he always announces his presence, attacks head-on, and refuses to attack from behind, saying that a true warrior wouldn't sink to dirty tactics. This is also the reason why he sees no reason to learn how his powers work and how to properly fight.
* HotBlooded: Everything is fighting with '''GUTS''' for him.
* HowDoIShotWeb: An unusual example in that he knows how to use his powers, but he has no idea how they work (Touma is probably the only one in the series with similar issues). Ollerus tells him that he might have stood a chance in their fight if Gunha actually knew how his powers worked and took better advantage of them.
* IdiotHero: He acknowledges this, but claims it is irrelevant.
* ItRunsOnNonsensoleum: Even in a series that runs on magic and {{Techno Babble}}, his powers are singled out as being one big "Screw You" to every known law of physics.
** {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d. At one point, he gives the same kind of fake scientific explanation for his abilities as everyone else does, only to be met with a flat statement that what he just said was completely impossible and makes no sense. It turns out that he has absolutely no understanding of the science behind his powers and was making up explanations.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Even he of all people realized he should retreat when faced with the [[TheDreaded Tokiwadai]] [[BadassNormal Dorm Supervisor]].
* LargeHam: Makes dramatic speeches all the time and announces his arrival like a superhero.
* MadeOfIron: Can keep fighting after severe injuries like getting his heart pierced.
* MeaningfulName: His names can be translated as "Supremacy of the Military Court".
* MegatonPunch: His Amazing Punch attack.
* NiceGuy: By Level 5 standards, a pure, good-hearted, and righteous boy like him is a veritable ''saint.''
* NowThatsUsingYourTeeth: He catches a railgun from Mikoto using ''his teeth''. It was only at 30%, but still...
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:Seeing the near end result of Mikoto's Level 6 Shift and seeing the dragon come out of Touma's arm]] were serious enough to get him to speak clearly and calmly and say they can't just jump in without a plan.
* ShoutOut: In his first appearance in SS Volume 2 ([[RunningGag and in the Railgun manga and in the Fanfare side story]]) he makes a dramatic speech that is immediately followed by [[{{Sentai}} explosions of colored smoke behind him]].
* StunnedSilence: His reaction to hearing [[spoiler:Touma's near-suicidal plan to finally end Mikoto's Level 6 Shift.]]
* UnskilledButStrong: Compared to the other level 5 espers. He fights with no strategy besides charging and punching.
* VerbalTic: He believes in being '''GUTSY''' over everything else to such a degree that he tries to insert something about '''GUTS''' in as many of his sentences as he possibly can.
* WearingAFlagOnYourHead: He wears a shirt emblazoned with the Rising Sun.
* WideEyedIdealist: He thinks the world is a simple place where good and evil can be easily distinguished and all he has to do is beat up the bad guy.
* TheWorfEffect: Gets [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomped]] by Ollerus. Going by what we now know about [[RealityWarper Ollerus]], though, Gunha never stood a chance...
* WrongGenreSavvy: Thinks he's TheHero of a {{Sentai}} anime or a Saturday morning cartoon.

[[folder:Estelle Rosenthal]]
!!Estelle Rosenthal

Debuting in ''Manga/ACertainScientificAccelerator'', she is a magician who sneaks into Academy City and seeks help from Accelerator.
* BandageBabe: Her forearms are covered with bandages.
* BerserkButton: People who exploit others and desecrate the dead.
* BigEater: Stuffs her face excessively.
* DishingOutDirt: She can form armor out of dirt to augment her animated corpses.
* FishOutOfWater: Is mystified by technology.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Does not care about being seen in her underwear by a boy. When Last Order tells her to cover herself up, she doesn't understand what the big deal is. She does however, cover up a naked girl with her cloak and asks her to not let herself be seen this way.
* InTheHood: Wears a hooded cloak while sneaking through the city.
* KnifeNut: Uses a dagger.
* MysteriousWaif: Not only is the mysterious DA Company pursuing her, but she carries a photo of Last Order and wants to know more about her.
* {{Necromancer}}: Her magical specialty. She can help spirits move on to the afterlife and see the memorizes of the dead. She can also animate corpses.
* SlippedTheRopes: She can escape very quickly from being bound by several belts.

[[folder:Hasami Hitokawa]]
!!Hasami Hitokawa

Debuting in ''Manga/ACertainScientificAccelerator'', Hasami is a level 2 pyrokinetic esper with severe depression issues. She tried and failed to kill herself shortly before the start of the series, and the fake Anti-Skill officers who recovered her finished the job on the way to the hospital. Estelle Rosenthal implanted a ''Huotou'' (a type of necromancy) into her body, and she soon after animated as a zombie under Estelle's command.
* DrivenToSuicide: She internally mocks herself for being so incompetent she even screwed this up. The DA agents don't exactly help, claiming that suicide is a sin [[{{Hypocrite}} as they're killing her]].
* HumanResources: Like the other dead espers, she was slated to be used as the core of a robot with esper abilities.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Even more so than Estelle. Estelle often has more important things on her mind than clothing, but Hasami simply does not have the programming to understand the need to cover up.
* InterrogatingTheDead: Estelle initially uses necromancy to revive only her brain and memories, so she and Accelerator can figure out what's going on. When Accelerator pokes the brain-shaped ball of electricity that was summoned, he gets a harsh dose of Hasami's memories.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: After having her living mind replaced with the spell, she acts robotically and with cold emotion, deferring to her master's command and no one else. She actually shares mythological background with a golem, being animated by a scrap of paper with instructions written on it. It is not clear if she can still access the memories she had when she was alive.
* PlayingWithFire: While alive, she was a level 2 pyro. It is unknown if she retains this ability after being revived.

[[folder:Shinka Kanou]]
!!Shinka Kanou

A Level 0 and childhood friend of Frenda Seivelun. In New Testament 12, he decides to investigate what happened to her after not having contacted her in ages, running afoul of the heroes and villains in the process.
* ActionSurvivor: He doesn't really have fighting skills and makes it through most situations by ducking and hiding. He does get to punch out St. Germain.
* DramaticIrony: He appears in Academy City to look for Frenda after he lost contact with her, while readers[[spoiler: are already aware of not only her involvement with Academy City's Dark Side, but also her violent death delivered by Mugino.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: The artist said he intentionally designed him to be a "trap", a boy easily mistaken for a girl.
* {{Expy}}: According to the artist, he's one of Lain from ''Anime/SerialExperimentsLain''.
* IdentityImpersonator: During his investigation, he pretends to be Etsu Aihana, the #6 Level 5, which intimidates most people into leaving him alone and gives him some authority.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: He had no idea Frenda was a member of Academy City's Dark Side.
* MisplacedRetribution: When he finds out Frenda had been killed by Shizuri Mugino, St. Germain tells him not to blame Mugino, but to blame Touma Kamijou for not being there to save her despite being a hero. When he attempts to attack Touma, Shiage Hamazura intercepts him and calls him out on his flawed thinking. Fortunately, he realizes he was being a fool and turns on the true villain, St. Germain.
* MoralityPet: He was one of the only people Frenda truly cared for.
* TookALevelInBadass: He was once a total crybaby and easily frightened. Then he goes on an adventure to discover what happened to his childhood friend and ends up punching out a powerful magician called St. Germain. Touma even calls him the true hero of NT 12.
* UnwittingPawn: St. Germain manipulates him into trying to fight Touma, believing Touma would be forced to kill him in self-defense and fall from grace, until Shiage sets him straight.
