"The ultimate villain of the story, who's causing the problem the heroes must solve."

Note that Big Bad is not a catch-all trope for the biggest and ugliest villain of any given story. The BigBad is the one who turns out to be behind several other seemingly independent threats.
* Webcomic/Adventurers played around with this, even having a PR war between two of the villains over who was going to be the FinalBoss.
* In WebComic/TheAdventuresOfDrMcNinja, Franz Rayner, Dracula, and King Radical have all taken this role in various arcs.
* Webcomic/AnsemRetorts Big Bad tends to change every season.
** Season 1: The FOX president.
** Season 2: Cloud for the first half of the season.
** Season 3: Cid.
** Season 4: Xemnas
** Season 5: None, as the season focused on Axel and Aerith's wedding.
** Season 6: Xemnas, Ansem, and oddly enough Belle are competing for the Big Bad title this season.
** Season 7: Xemnas again with Red XIII as TheDragon
** Season 8: The cast of Shibuya Shore.
* Webcomic/Archipelago: The Great Raven's ability is limited, but he remains in the shadows, giving orders to Captain Snow, as well as collecting loyalties of various civilians, all as a part of his plan to free himself so he can wreck havoc.
* In Webcomic/BladeOfToshubi, both the Feline Emperor and Advisor Toh count.
* Webcomic/BobAndGeorge had a new big bad each year, though Dr. Wily would always come up and Bob stayed consistent.
** Year One: The Yellow Devil
*** Bob could be considered the Big Bad too.
** Year Two: Mynd
** Year Three: Megaman
** Year Four: The Helmeted Author
** Year Five: Non-Alternative Mynd (though Bob comes in a close second)
** Year Six: Megaman X
** Year Seven: Bob
* Zenith of WebComic/CommanderKitty is part fox, part rabbit, part cat, and all perfect. She's so perfect, in fact, that her ultimate plan is to create for herself the perfect mate and take over the galaxy with her perfect children. [[spoiler: Actually, she's Ulysses J. Fortiscue's robot assistant, gone slightly overboard with her directive to "eliminate all life's little imperfections." Once she's rebooted in Safe Mode, she's much more interested in fashion design than galactic conquest.]]
* Cancer Man in Webcomic/MonsterOfTheWeek. His true name is unknown - author called him Cancer Man because he smokes in his every appearance.
* It changes with a bunch of reveals in Webcomic/DivineBells.
* Webcomic/Drowtales: Snadhya'rune.
* Probably Lord Tedd in Webcomic/ElGoonishShive.
** Or that universe's Shade Tail.
** Formerly Daimen.
** Abraham is a punch clock example.
** Pandora "Chaos" Raven is probably the best current candidate.
*** Not that you need to worry overmuch.
* Presumably N'Grall in Webcomic/ElvenLacryment.
* In Webcomic/Endstone, Kyri realizes that the God of the Eternity Spire is behind both of the tragedies of her life, because he controls the Banestone.
* While it's not quite a certainty yet, a true BigBad seems to finally be shaping up in Erfworld: . This page (WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS) certainly goes all-out with the Shout Outs to drive the idea home.
* In Webcomic/HeartCore we have Royce Lashiec, Lord of Hell Asgar, mightiest of demons, horrible parent and the bane of the entire Beastman species.
* In Webcomic/HolidayWars, the EasterBunny is the BigBad.
* The latest series in Webcomic/MSPaintAdventures, Webcomic/Homestuck doesn't really get much traction in the case of definite enemies until Act 4 in which each Act gets a definite BigBad.
** The Black King was initially set up as the Big Bad, but ended up getting hit by TheWorfEffect hard.
** [[spoiler: Jack Noir]] for Acts 4 and 5, helping to send Sburb severely of the rails.
** Vriska Serket was thought of being the BigBad of Act 5, engineering most of what took the game off the rails [[spoiler:until it's revealed that she and several others were being manipulated by Doc Scratch, the real BigBad of Act 5.]]
** [[spoiler: Her Imperious Condescension]] for most of Act 6, controlling and antagonizing the Kids [[spoiler:although she's somewhat been out of focus upon the reveal of the psychotic, bloodthirsty Caliborn.]]
** [[spoiler: Lord English]] though can be seen as the BigBad to the series as a whole given that he is the BiggerBad to everyone else previously mentioned but has not made his first full appearance until just before Act 6, and has not yet encountered any of the main characters.
* Webcomic/TheLawOfPurple: Silver, Lord of Caligula.
* Webcomic/TheLifeOfNobTMouse: in Pie Noon and probably also King Nastie from the Nasties stories, although he's also something of a Dragon.
* Most likely Aelloon in Webcomic/LookingForGroup.
**
***
* In the Nomura Syndrome story arc of Webcomic/ManlyGuysDoingManlyThings, Creator/Gackt is the BigBad. [[spoiler: Hired by Commander Badass's superiors to bishify him so they can market new merchandise.]]
* Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick: Lord Xykon.
** Though the comic also features Nale and Kubota (two Big Bad Wannabes), Redcloak (a Dragon who is in some ways even more dangerous than his boss), The Snarl (an EldritchAbomination that hasn't done anything yet but could destroy the universe if released), Tarquin (the MagnificentBastard EvilOverlord who's also a main character's father), and the Interfiend Co-operation Committee (a trio of fiendish Chessmasters who are playing everybody else to a greater or lesser extent) -- so there's definitely more than a bit of a BigBadEnsemble going on rather than just Xykon. As he's arguably the most powerful non-divine villain in the comic and is the most central single villain to the plot, he'd still qualify as the BigBad though, barring a (not entirely impossible) future upset.
** Recent developments as of #830 mean this might be
* We have not one, but two in Webcomic/OurLittleAdventure. Brian and Angelo, who not only work together but are a married couple.
* Webcomic/ProblemSleuth had Mobster Kingpin, who was set up to be the game's FinalBoss from the start. The heroes spent more than half of the game fighting him.
* Webcomic/SluggyFreelance: Hereti Corp and K'Z'K constantly take turns being the overall BigBad of the comic. Other examples (mainly for mini arcs) include vampire queen Lysinda, demon general Lord Horribus, corrupt nobleman Sir John Jacobs, and a totalitarian dictator known only as "His Masterness".
** Though His Masterness turned out to be a subversion. [[spoiler: It was originally Alt Doctor Shlock keeping the people of 4U city in drugged stasis while he repairs the damage caused to the Dimension by his irresponsible portal abuse, then the role was assumed by Alt Riff who continued the job after Shlock's death, and then by a computer Riff left in charge of the city, while he devoted all his energies to saving the world, that ended up going rogue]].
* In Webcomic/SonicTheComicOnline the role is first taken by the leader of The Syndicate Dr Zachary, then the role is taken by Don Long-Legs head of The Family,then by [[spoiler:Grimer]] who is behind the Neo Metallix as well as Kane also telling The Family about The Syndicate planning to destroying the Special Zone which cause The Family to travel to Mobius, then by [[spoiler:Dr Robotnik]] and [[spoiler:The Drakon Empire]].
* Xaneth of Webcomic/TrueVillains, being one of the main characters and leader of a villainous band, seems to be this as of now.
* With this page Webcomic/VoodooWalrus seems to be setting things up to suggest that Rip Flintolocke, a character who hasn't even been seen beyond being a shadowed figure, is responsible for everything that's happened in Grymm and Creepknight's lives.
* Fred from Webcomic/WhatsShakin is the reoccurring BigBad.
* Xaos from Webcomic/TheWotch might be a Big Bad if he ever gets around to doing it
* Webcomic/EightBitTheater: Sarda
** And let's just stop saying that the Light Warriors, either individually or as a group, are Big Bads, because they're not - they're working for Sarda and he is the Big Bad.
* Director Deena Daniels of B.E.N.T. is the Big Bad of Webcomic/Hexenringe. Her design is based on Mama Fratelli from Characters/The Goonies.
