It could be argued that this is the ''entire point'' of ''Anime/{{Macross}}'', as it features {{Idol Singer}}s and/or ThePowerOfRock as a major force in the universe.

''Anime/MacrossFrontier'' has enough awesome songs to fit in [[AwesomeMusic/MacrossFrontier its own page]].
----
* From the original ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'':
** The signature action theme [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH6ZiySBy_w "Dog Fighter"]].
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1AxrjcFGZ8 "Departure"]], especially at the end of episode "Big Escape".
* From ''Anime/MacrossDoYouRememberLove'' we have [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x16q4yq_flash-back-2012-ai-oboete-imasuka-traducido_shortfilms "Ai, Oboete Imasu ka?"]] (aka "Do You Remember Love?"), sung by Lynn Minmay in the final battle (in the original series, she sang [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY2jwnDyURo "Ai wa Nagareru"]], which was, only partially ''à propos'' to the surrounding battle, an [[SoundtrackDissonance anti-war song]]). [[http://vibeclouds.net/tracks/ai_oboete_imasu_ka_nakajima.html This was also sung by Ranka Lee]] while under Grace O'Connor's control in the final battle of ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'', here used by the antagonists to keep control of the Vajra. Minori Suzuki, the voice actress and singer of Freyja Wion in ''Anime/MacrossDelta'', also sang [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuECM8uugIM this song]] in its original arrangement. Except [[WhatCouldHaveBeen this song was never presented in the actual show;]] instead an instrumental piece and a different version sang by Mikumo was shown in the final episode.
* ''Anime/MacrossPlus'' saw Music/YokoKanno handle the soundtrack and as such, is full of this.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0rxpQI0ZbY "Information High"]] and "Dog Fight" kick major ass, especially during the scenes that they play in.
** Three epic and surreal pieces from ''Plus'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq_bRe83U3E "A Sai Ên"]] from when the Macross is lifting off, [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x25f1h7_macross-pluss-the-cream-puff-santi-u_music "Santi-U"]] which switches into an absolutely ''electrifying'' sequence at 4:00 in good Yoko Kanno fashion and the third is "Voices", the hauntingly beautiful theme song of the series (whether in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkToH34xuhY Japanese]] or [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEWLj_unfHA English]]). For added "Voices" goodness, listen to its [[http://junglevibe2.net/tracks/voices_macross_acoustic.html acoustic]] and [[http://junglevibe2.net/tracks/voices_macross_a_capella_ost.html acappella]] versions.
** Sharon Apple's concerts were both a visual and auditory feast with songs like [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1920hx_%E8%8F%85%E9%87%8E%E3%82%88%E3%81%86%E5%AD%90-yoko-kanno-after-in-the-dark-torch-song_music "After, in the dark ~ Torch song"]], [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1a6efr_anime-spalyrics-project-wanna-be-a-angel-macross-plus-subtitulado-al-espanol_shortfilms "WANNA BE AN ANGEL"]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnHFwSRhvnY "Idol Talk"]], [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x19xido_anime-spalyrics-project-the-borderline-macross-plus-subtitulado-al-espanol_shortfilms "The Borderline"]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQBvrGa9BlM "Pulse"]].
* Just about anything from the band [[Anime/{{Macross 7}} Fire Bomber]].
** Especially [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GLvBLO-blY "Totsugeki Love Heart"]] which at several times serves as Basara's ThemeMusicPowerup. ([[http://tvpot.daum.net/v/o3U0X9rnUYU$ Now with extra May'n goodness!]])
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkA6pnWWdKc "Holy Lonely Light"]] essentially becomes Fire Bomber's ThemeMusicPowerup: when this starts playing, the Protodevlin are about to get owned '''hard'''.
** Later on in the show, we have Basara's signature track, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw58J_NlFPg Try Again]]". It's a song that literally shakes the entire universe.
** The ''Macross Dynamite 7'' OVA featured the return of Music/YokoKanno to Macross and she doesn't disappoint with awesome songs like "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ6mNzAnHh0 Dynamite Explosion]]", "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7A228StXw0 New Frontier]]", and "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6xitKpfzUM Angel Voice]]" (space whales and all).
** Two words: "[[https://youtu.be/ibelY7e1WeQ BURNING FIRE]]"! An energetic rock song so awesome and completely capturing the essence of being a kick-ass pilot of a Valkyrie, it became the opening song for the second game of the ''VideoGame/MacrossFrontierTrilogy''!
* Despite the shift away from pop music, ''Anime/MacrossZero'' still has its share of awesome tracks.
** [[http://junglevibe2.net/tracks/kuniaki_haijima_vf_zero_ost.html "VF-Zero"]], [[http://junglevibe2.net/tracks/sky_shine_haijima.html "Sky Shine"]] and [[http://junglevibe2.net/tracks/haishima_airborne_troops.html "Airborne Troops"]], all played over [[Awesome/MacrossZero extremely spectacular]] aerial dogfights.
** [[http://gamethemesongs.com/Macross_Zero_-_10_-_Counter_Clockwise.html "Counter clockwise"]], heard when Focker transforms into Battroid mode for the first time.
** The oddly-named [[http://junglevibe2.net/tracks/macross_haishima.html "Macross Track"]], giving us yet another eargasm with both high-intensity action and eerily calm parts.
** THE apocalyptic music for the franchise: [[http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/zPoXtsY6jm4/ "The Song of Destruction"]]. Earlier on is [[http://gamethemesongs.com/Macross_Zero_-_13_-_Totem_Spell.html "Totem Spell"]], shorter but by no means worse in the ominous chanting department.
** Finally, the absolutely ''beautiful'' theme song of the series: [[http://gamethemesongs.com/Macross_Zero_-_02_-_Arkan_part_1_Holy_Raz.html "Arkan"]]. And don't forget about [[http://gamethemesongs.com/Macross_Zero_-_17_-_Arkan_part_2_Holy_Raz.html Part 2]]!
* Ditto with ''Anime/MacrossII'':
** Despite the OVA series being SoOkayItsAverage, [[http://yackdeculture.tumblr.com/post/143008071924 "Yakusoku"]] is a classic ED.
** Mika Kaneko's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZlJM2aZZWM "A hush like 200 million years"]] is just as awesome.
* From ''Anime/MacrossDelta'':
** [[http://musicinanime.tumblr.com/post/144298431899/ikenai-border-line-walk%C3%BCre-anime-macross-delta "Ikenai Borderline"]] is fun, energetic idol pop with a hefty IntercourseWithYou tone to its lyrics.
** The first ending theme [[http://musicinanime.tumblr.com/post/144158816227/rune-ga-pikatto-hikattara-walk%C3%BCre-anime-macross "Rune ga Pikatto Hikattara"]] is a fun song that combines bits of pop, funk, jazz, R&B, disco and more into something that wouldn't be out of place in an Music/EarthWindAndFire concert. The single also debuted near the top of the Oricon charts and was for a time, the number 1 song on Japanese iTunes store, Amazon Japan and [=AmiAmi=]. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3nfweteZck This mashup]] takes it to its logical conclusion.
** The second ending theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo4mLVeEz0g Hametsu no Junjou]], is no slouch either. Special mention needs to go to episode 18 where Mikumo busts out a galaxy shaking [[https://youtu.be/NV9l3vBxU2Y?t=2m55s solo a cappella rendition]] that ends up rocking every planet in the local cluster, causes the protoculture ruins in them to resonate, and even knocks Prince Heinz off his feet in awe.
** "[[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/g5la46on361k3xa/Bokura%20no%20Senjou%20Chuudoku%20Ni%20Naru.mp3?dl=0 Bokura no Senjou]]". Whenever someone starts singing this song, you know that the tides of battle are gonna turn.
** "[[http://takasquid.tumblr.com/post/146624761268/%E3%83%AF%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC-walk%C3%BCre-attack Walkure Attack!]]" is driven by a very intense, almost ominous, drumline that makes it perfect for the dog fights that are set to it.
** Episode 10 brings up Kaname's "AXIA -Daisuki de Daikirai-" as one of the show's great songs.
** Episode 11 gives us a soulful, melancholic cover of [[Anime/Macross7 Fire Bomber's]] "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqxAt0trOWs Remember 16]]" by Chuck's siblings, sung during a gathering meant to remember Messer, who had just died in the previous episode.
** Episode 11 has the awesome rendition of "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsCRMbZbZVo Giraffe Blues]]" that starts a cappella with each of the voices of Walkure coming into the song, until Kaname finally comes and takes the lead, before the instruments kick in. JUNNA's take of this song (With the subtitle "-Mikumo Solo-") also counts too.
