* In Okinawa, Minoru holding his own against Kevin, a larger and more experienced opponent [[FeelNoPain on PCP]]. Then Mutou arrives... And goes around his inability to feel pain by hitting him so hard his body collapses under his strength.
* From the 26th Kaburagi Ryu national tournament:
** For his first match, that opens the tournament in general, Hamada, the reigning lightweight champion, asks his second what would be better to fire up the audience, a long and methodical takedown of his opponent or an instant knock-out. His second tells him to go for the instant knock-out... And he does just that, winning in ''four seconds''.
*** That is actually his SignatureMove, the Kaoru-chan Missile: as soon as the fight starts, [[FlashStep he moves in striking range in an instant]] while also punching his opponent right on the nose. While everyone at his dojo expects it and steps aside because he does that all the time, those who fight him for the first time start the match with a bloody nose.
** A similar feat is performed by Gerard Bertrand in the openweight division, one-shotting his opponent... ''After'' being hit in his weak spot.
** In the first openweight division match, Mutou, reigning champion of the division, is surprised by a former Sumo champion in his first match. After being thrown once and realizing what opponent he's facing, he offers himself for a throw, then, once he's thrown, blocks their combined weight of over 250 kilos ''with a single leg'' and [[OneHitKO takes him down with a single elbow strike]].
** In his first match, Minami (who is under the effects of some strange mushrooms) takes the worst hits from his opponent without damage thanks to excellent skills in rolling with the hit before knocking him out with one kick-and he was outmassed by 20 kilos.
** Satomi Masahiro is hailed as Japan's strongest Karateka. Faced with a larger 160 kilos opponent in his first match, he ''tanks'' all his attacks without damage before quickly taking him out-and the only reason he took those attacks was that he needed to to properly grasp the Kaburagi-ryu rules and the ''maai'' (the fighting distance and time to cross it) under said rules.
** Before facing Ryuu in the semifinals, Hamada is bribed to not hit his face because Ryuu is an actor and will soon have a movie. After checking that Ryuu knows nothing, Hamada goes on the ring... And starts the fight with the Kaoru-chan Missile ''right on the nose'', before scoring a victory by ippon with nothing but punches in the face while ''holding back''. And he keeps the bribe.
*** One for Izumi, Koudan Kaikan head, director the King of Strikers kickboxing promotion, and Hamada's teacher and father, who led Ryuu's manager to Hamada fully knowing how he'd react - and after the fight it takes him a single DeathGlare to scare Ryuu's manager into submission.
** In the semifinals of the lightweight division, Minoru faces Imai Yuuto, a 190 cm tall opponent with a winning streak of ''200 fights''-and not only wins, he does it by [[BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame outperforming him in the psychological games and flying knees that are his best moves]].
** In the openweight quarter finals, Minami beating ''Bertrand''-and that was after the "mushroom power" wore off. Sure, part of it was owed to terrifying hemorroid pain (the reason the mushroom effects had worn off) that didn't make him realize Bertrand's two good hits had broken his forearm and ribs, and he had to retire and be hospitalized afterwards... But "[[CombatPragmatist The Emperor of Dirty Matches]]" still beat someone whose fists are so powerful to break bones with ''one punch'', forcing the K.O.S. director to all but bribe the Kaburagi-ryu president to have Bertrand advance and fight Mutou.
** The semifinal fight between Bertrand and Mutou-especially as the director made sure to motivate him into going all-out. By the end, Mutou won... But was left with broken ribs and a bloodied face among various injuries, and the public all but ''worships'' Bertrand for his showing.
*** About a month later, Bertrand takes part in the King of Strikers tournament-and wipes out the competition. ''That'' is the fighter Mutou beat.
** The other openweight semifinal between Satomi, hailed as the strongest Karateka in Japan, and Tanuma, the former Kaburagi champion that Mutou beat at the 25th tournament after losing ''twice'' in previous fights. Tanuma, being old and planning to retire from tournaments, doesn't want to win, just to give Satomi the right injuries so he and Mutou can have a fight without handicaps on either side-and right before the time is up, he succeeds with a ''monstruous'' back kick that [[PunchedAcrossTheRoom sends the much larger Satomi out of the tatami]] and injuries the right arm he used to block the attack-and would have likely taken him down altogether if he hadn't blocked.
** In the lightweight final, Minoru has to face the champion... And is the first one in the tournament to dodge the Kaoru-chan Missile and then the follow-up [[RapidFireFisticuffs Kaoru-chan Machine Gun]], the latter being the assault that took out Ryuu. He still loses, as [[LetsGetDangerous that prompts Hamada to get serious]], but he still managed to push him that much and almost went the distance.
** The openweight final, all of it. Satomi ends up winning by luck, as the strike that should have got Mutou an Ippon arrived a split second after the time ended and by the time the additional round started Mutou's injuries from the fight with Bertrand take him out, but he still pushed ''Mutou'' to his absolute limit, even spending the first part of the match hitting him with impunity before Mutou figured out how he was doing that.
*** One for Mutou: [[{{Determinator}} he fought with Satomi while his lungs were pierced by the ribs broken by Bertrand's fists]]. As far as Satomi's concerned, it was Mutou's win for both having been saved by the clock and this.
* Akiko puts the audience in their place during Mamiya's fight against Yuuto in Chapter 189 as they practically chant for the boy to give up. [[BewareTheNiceOnes Her anger]] is so surprising that it catches a raging Nana off guard, who is seconds from beating the crap out of the {{Jerkass}} in front of them.
--> '''Akiko:''' What's wrong with being stubborn? Even if it's lame, even if it's uncool, you don't give up until the very end. What's wrong with that!!? '''Shut up and watch, morons!!'''
* The GENESIS tournament is a great CMOA overall for Minami, with him defeating, and with minimal injuries, formidable opponents that most people would never expect him to beat:
** His first opponent is Temur Shirato, the "Mongol Sensation" (so named because he and his brothers were born in Mongolia), the favorite of the tournament that the commentator expects to win even before the fight starts, with Minami himself comparing his strenght and speed to ''Mutou'' (through not to his overwhelming presence and skill). When asked how he plans to beat him Minami says he'll borrow the strategy used by Houjou Tokimune to defeat the Mongol Invasions of Japan... And after a difficult first round, ''the fight goes just like the Invasions'', reversing Shirato's early lead and trouncing him through the second round, to the point Shirato's corner throws the towel due the injuries he's receiving endangering his future committments.
** In the second round he faces Satomi Daichi, the younger brother of Japan's strongest karateka (who had managed to beat ''Mutou'', if barely), his equal in terms of physical strength and gifted with a peculiar clumsiness that while it keeps him from using the most advanced techniques (as his joints are too rigid and can't flex enough) also makes his kicks that much stronger (as his joint are ''that'' rigid) ''and'' messes up his opponents' rhythm. So, following the strategy put together by Mai Penrai (AKA the disguised and presumed dead Kaburagu Jozou, founder of Kaburagi Ryu and a genius in finding his opponents' weaknesses), and using Nozomi in a maid outfit as a second to throw him off early on and striking weakly to convince him of his own superiority, he resists for the first round and two minutes and half of the second to ''correct his rhythm'' and turn him from a monster who messes up his opponents' rhythm with his clumsiness to a clumsy fighter whose rhythm is easily read. At which point, all of Daichi's striking power doesn't matter, as any time he attacks he's easily countered.
*** It's noted that there's a number of fighters that have a strong professional start due their uniqueness but ends up becoming regular mediocre fighters once they get past the basics through training or matches, but it takes months of training or multiple fights for it to happen. Minami and Kaburagi succeeded in doing it to Daichi in ''five minutes and thirty seconds''.
** In chapter 369, we finally learn the full depth of Minami Hiroki's efforts in teaching Minoru. None of the younger members of the karate club knew how strong Minami was, because he always held back or imitated other people's fighting styles to help train them. Despite probably knowing that this cost him some respect from his juniors, Minami continued to do so for their own sake. Then, in Chapter 370, we learn that while Minami isn't holding himself back, he's also not targeting Minoru's weakest point. If he did, it would guarantee victory, but Minami wants more than anyone to see Minoru succeed at his dreams, and he just can't bring himself to be merciless in their fight, so he's leaving a single slim chance by letting Minoru keep using his legs. And this is the 'Emperor of Dirty Matches' we're talking about.
* When Gianni Skandalaki first appeared he had heavily underestimated Minoru and didn't do proper conditioning, and almost lost the match. For the KOS Strongest U70 World Championship Tournament, however, he prepared properly to face various world champions... And in his first match his opponent only lasts the distance because he wanted to show off by not being hit ''once'' while reducing his opponent's face into a mask of blood.
* Minoru's comeback match against Thongchal. Thongchal may be well past his prime, but back in the day he was the champion of Lumpinee Stadium (the most prestigious Muay Thai arena in Thailand), and not only he still has the skills but he's also cheating, with the referee having been bribed to favor him... And Minoru still wins by TKO. Not only that, during the fight he develops his style into what is called in-universe "Flowing Water Karate", that is he's incredibly fast at switching between attack and defense, move around, and adapt to all situations - as if he was indeed a stream of flowing water.
* For a large part of the story, Ogata Tomoharu has been hyped as the strongest kickboxer in Japan, a kickboxer among kickboxers. When he finally fights, he lives up to the hype:
** His entry in the ring. He simply walks up, to the tune of "Eye of the Tiger"... And [[AwesomenessIsAForce just that drives the fans into a frenzy and intimidates Minoru]]. Who, having used the same entrance music for a while, decides to change it as he just doesn't compare yet.
** His opponent is Kongdej Shinnaron, a former Lumpinee Stadium champion in ''three weight classes'' who didn't lose his title but gave it up to go fighting in Europe to the highest levels, where he had consecutive wins against the great European powerhouses. Kondgej strikes Ogata with multiple middle kicks... And [[StoneWall not only he fails to move him]], ''[[StoneWall he hurts himself]]''. [[AwesomenessIsAForce That's when Kongdej starts moving back without having been hit yet]].
** After the above, Ogata starts attacking... And not only his opening low kick is so fast Kongdej didn't realize he had moved until he's kicked, he then overwhelms his opponent ''in a clinch'', the strongest point of Muay Thai.
** Kongdej being a Nak Muay in his prime, he resists until round 3... But he's heavily hurt, and apparently failed to hit Ogata even once. Finally, Ogata knocks him down, Kongdej tries to stand back up... Then Ogata ''looks'' at him, and Kongdej just falls down again.
** All in all, the showing was so formidable that Minoru compares him to Mutou... ''Favorably''. And puts him in the list of people to defeat in the future.
