* Spike's Jewish friend Lt. Joe Mostyn goes around captured Nazi soldiers taking their watches in exchange for what he claims to the non-English-speaking soldiers is a free-pass note for good treatment. It's actually a piece of paper with the words 'This is an Anti-Semitic bastard, knock the shit out of him' written on it.
* Amongst all the craziness, it's clear that D Battery contained some legitimately badass members.
** Major Chater Jack displaying his enormous BrassBalls by completely ignoring being shot at by a German fighter plane - and then showing that he's not just a FearlessFool by telling the men of the battery, who on hearing the plane had dived into a ditch, that [[StealthMentor they did completely the right thing by taking cover.]]
** Lieutenant Tony Goldsmith staying completely cool during observation duty and even [[DeadpanSnarker snarking down the telephone line]] whenever he could be heard over the mortar shells exploding all around him. [[BadassBookworm In his civilian life he was a promising young academic who had translated Flaubert's Sentimental Education.]]
** Sergeant Mick Ryan aiming a 7.2" inch howitzer with pinpoint accuracy (during a beach-head battle where they had no forward observers) by sticking his head in the breech, looking down the barrel at the target and then wiggling it a bit - possibly the largest-calibre example of GunFu that will ''ever be recorded''.
* D Batt., 64 Hvy. Regt., R.A. twice broke the record for number of shells fired by a battery of 7.2" howitzers in a 24 hour period during the battle of Tunis. On two separate occasions, four guns fired over 2000 shells. At least one of the poor sods who was on the receiving end of the bombardment thought that twenty-four guns were targeting their position, such was the weight and rapidity of fire.
