->''"What do you think people are made of? I'm not talking about blood or flesh. We do care about what's on the exterior, but we want to focus more on what people even now still call the "inside." You can also call it "nature." I guess you are either born this way or raised to act this way. Are people born like this or do they become like this? The answer is..."''
-->'''--OpeningNarration'''

''Blood-C'' is a Summer2011Anime series that was produced and collaborated on by Studio ProductionIG and Creator/{{CLAMP}}. It is the second anime based on ''Manga/BloodTheLastVampire'', following 2005's ''Anime/BloodPlus'', and the fourth overall incarnation in the franchise.

Kisaragi Saya is a High School girl born to a shrine family. By day, she's completely ordinary and enjoys hanging out with her friends. By night, she fights and kills the monsters called "Elder Bairns" who invade her town and attempt to feed on humans. But as Saya continues to fight for her life each night, she begins to notice something isn't quite right in this town...

The movie ''Anime/BloodCTheLastDark'', which was out on June 2, 2012, is a sequel which continues the events of the TV series, one year later, and is set in UsefulNotes/{{Tokyo}}.

Creator/{{Funimation}} has licensed both the TV series (released in November, 2012) and film, which is expected to be released sometime in 2013. A manga adaptation of the TV series and the movie was serialized in Shounen Ace. There's also a spin-off manga entitled ''Blood-C: Izayoi Kitan'' which is set in 1946.

* ActionGirl: Saya
* {{Adorkable}}: Saya in spades. Taken UpToEleven in the manga...CHIBI SAYA!
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:Tokizane confesses to Saya in Episode 9. She reacts in confusion and asks what he likes about her. Turns out the whole thing was just an act.]]
** [[spoiler:Played straight with Itsuki.]]
* AnkleDrag: [[spoiler: Happens to the Motoe twins in episode 12. Nene is dangled in the air and then repeatedly smashed into the ground, while Nono gets ripped in half.]]
* AntiHero: Saya in ''spades'' [[spoiler: by episode 12]].
* AnyoneCanDie: {{Double Subverted}}. [[spoiler: Sometimes twice. The second time, though, it manages to stick.]]

* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler: Itsuki comes to actually care for Saya while acting out his role as her classmate.]]
* BigBad[=/=]TheManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler: Fumito]]

* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[spoiler:The Motoe Twins, Tokizane, Kanako and Fumito.]]
** As of the last episode, [[spoiler: Yuka]] can be added to the list. [[spoiler: She only participated in TheMasquerade because she wanted to be a politician and doesn't seem to care when the rest of the participants are slaughtered.]]
* BlobMonster: The Elder Bairns in latter half of episode 6
* BloodierAndGorier: Bound to happen when you consider that most gimmicks from the previous installments (Like the crystallization from Blood+) are given up on in favor of full blown cutting, slicing, hitting, crushing, chewing and eating.
* BloodyHilarious: Lots of the {{Gorn}}.
* BloodIsTheNewBlack: Saya in the opening and in Episodes 3 and 4 has her covered from head to toe in blood.
** Tried to be subverted by [[spoiler:Fumito]] in a rare in-story example. [[spoiler:After TheReveal, Nono and Nene hint at the possibility of the uniforms being black and red to conceal any blood stains left from one of Saya's feedings]]. Doesn't work as well.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:What Fumito does to the Elder Bairns and Tadayoshi when he gives them some of Saya's blood.]]
* BreakTheCutie: Saya in the second half.
** BrokenBird
* BreakingSpeech: The Elder Bairn in Episode 9 gives Saya the shortest one while killing [[spoiler:her classmate.]]
-->''Why are you sad?''
* CastingGag: voice actors KeijiFujiwara (Tadayoshi Kisaragi) and KenjiNojima (Fumito Nanahara) previously played in ''BloodPlus''. Fujiwara voiced Nathan Mahler, one of Diva's Chevalier, [[spoiler:and hilariously enough, Tadayoshi happens to be half-human hybrid too]]. Nojima voiced Karman, one of the artificial chiropterans designed as super soldiers, [[spoiler:and also hilariously enough in the movie, Fumito is also creating artificial Elder Bairns though not for military purposes]].
* CensorShadow / LensFlareCensor:
** Several times when monsters attack. Replaced with blurs half the time in episode 12 for unknown reasons.
** Removed in the BD/DVD releases.
* CharactersDroppingLikeFlies: At the end [[spoiler:only Saya, Fumito and Yuka are the only ones who are alive]] at the end.
* ChasteHero: Saya
* ClassRepresentative: Itsuki
* [[spoiler:CliffHanger]]: [[spoiler:The ending left us with Saya pursuing Fumito into the city.]]

* CoolSword: Saya's mother's sword. [[spoiler:Though it's not really her mother's.]]
* CradlingYourKill: [[spoiler:Saya briefly does this to Tadayoshi's corpse.]]
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Most are, given the fact that the Elder Bairns take on rather weird shapes and states of existence, resulting in unusually painful ways for most of the characters to die, like [[spoiler:being impaled by a shadow or having one's legs torn off by it.]]
** Elder Bairns aren't safe from it either, since upon [[spoiler:encountering Saya and being allowed to kill all humans in their vicinity]], they're bound to suffer a horrifying death at the hands of the girl, such as [[spoiler:being sliced in half (A series favorite) or stabbed from the inside out.]]
* CuteClumsyGirl[=/=]{{Dojikko}}: Saya's habit of falling on her face.
* DaddysGirl: Saya.
* DarkReprise: [[spoiler: Listen closely to the BGM playing during Saya's HeroicBSOD after Fumito escapes. It sounds like the song she always sings.]]
** The series itself is a DarkReprise of the previous installments of the franchise.
* DaylightHorror: This first shows up in [[WhamEpisode episode 6]], combined with "AnyoneCanDie" to great effect. It resurfaces in episode 8, this time culminating in [[spoiler: "KillEmAll"]].
* [[DeadHandShot Dead Foot Shot]]: [[spoiler:Nono.]]
* DeathByGenreSavvy: [[spoiler:An unlucky student from Episode 9.]] Safely getting away from the monster, and escaping outside, [[spoiler:he is promptly killed by falling glass [[NiceJobBreakingItHero because Saya kicked the monster into the window]].]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: What she promised her class in Episode 8. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope She couldn't deliver on it.]]]]
* DissonantSerenity: Fumito seems perfectly calm whenever there's danger, [[spoiler:most especially when he's leaving the town in a car while his men are shooting down civilians and the bunny Elder Bairns killing everything else]].
** Yuka is also unfazed [[spoiler:when she's leaving the city with Fumito. Her conservation with him while the town massacre is ongoing looked like they're talking over drinks]].
* DoggedNiceGuy: Itsuki towards Saya. It's hinted that Tokizane is also one for Saya.
** [[spoiler:Subverted, at least in Tokizane's case it was all an act]].
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Creator/NanaMizuki, Saya's seiyuu, also performs the ending theme.
* [[spoiler:DownerEnding]]: [[spoiler: Fumito gets away, Saya loses an eye, Itsuki and Tadayoshi die redeeming themselves, and the entire town is massacred.]]
* [[spoiler:DyingDeclarationOfLove: Itsuki in episode 12.]]
* EatenAlive: Only if an Elder Brain doesn't kill its victim first.
* EldritchAbomination: Most of the Elder Bairns that are bigger than an average human

* [[spoiler:FakingTheDead]]: [[spoiler:Tokizane, the Motoe twins, and Yuka.]]
* {{Fanservice}}: Saya's bathscene and the opening. There's also Kanako, gropping one of Saya's breasts in Episode 11.
** FanDisservice: [[spoiler:The Motoe twins' panty shots during their deaths. Then there's Kanako who not only had several panty shots, but a full breast exposure when she was killed.]]
* [[spoiler:FoodChainOfEvil]]: [[spoiler:Saya eats Elder Bairns.]]
* FoodPorn: The food that Fumito made looks very delicious.
* GirlNextDoor: Saya is this towards Fumito. [[spoiler:Or not.]]
* GirlishPigtails: Saya.
* GoOutWithASmile: [[spoiler: Itsuki.]]
* {{Gorn}}:
** Dripping with it during monster fights.
* GodivaHair: In the opening and bath scene
* GoryDiscretionShot: As the Elder Bairn of Episode 7 is cleanly bisected, his two halves turn around so that the gooey bits remain off camera.
** Pops up again in episode 12, [[spoiler:as the entire left side of Saya's face after her [[EyeScream eye gets blown off]] is never seen.]]
* GratuitousEnglish: In the opening theme (Spiral by Dustz). The full theme also adds GratuitousFrench.
* GrayEyes: Saya has these unless she's kicking a vampire's ass.
* [[spoiler:HalfHumanHybrid]]: [[spoiler:Tadayoshi.]]
* HealingFactor: Saya's is officially recognized in Episode 8. Though it does take a day or two, the end result is fairly clear.
* HiddenDepths: Despite her established [[{{Dojikko}} klutziness]], Saya is REALLY good at sports.
* HiddenVillain: [[spoiler:Fumito]]
* HighPressureBlood
* HotTeacher: Kanako.
* HouseHusband: Fumito.
* HumanoidAbomination: Elder Bairns in episode 5 (first half), episode 7 and episode 9 and [[spoiler:Tadayoshi who is a HalfHumanHybrid]]
* ImAHumanitarian: In a weird twist:[[spoiler:While the Elder Bairns feast on humans, Saya (being one herself) cannot. Instead, she can only feast on the blood of other Elder Bairns.]]
** [[spoiler: The Guimauve that Fumito fed her was made from the blood of Elder Bairns.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:Multiple of Saya's classmates (including Yuka's fake body) that weren't eaten.]]
** [[spoiler:A bunch of extras in the final episode.]]
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:Fumito at least until the movie.]]
* KatanasAreJustBetter
* KillTheCutie:
** [[spoiler:The Motoe twins, and the rest of her class except Itsuki and Tokizane.]]
** [[spoiler:Tokizane was eaten in Episode 10. Which revealed that the Motoe Twins are still alive.]]
** [[spoiler:And then it turns out all three of them are alive. And are complete {{jerkass}}es. They eventually die for real later on, along with Kanako-sensei.]]
** [[spoiler:Itsuki is killed trying to protect Saya in the final episode.]]
* [[spoiler:KillEmAll: Everyone in Saya's class in Episodes 8 and 9, with the exception of Itsuki and Tokizane.]]
** [[spoiler:Everyone eventually dies except for Fumito, Yuka and Saya. Even the entire town gets eaten.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:All but Saya, Fumito and Yuka by episode 12.]]
* KillerRabbit: [[spoiler: Episode 12 features giant rabbit-like beasts during the finale]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Saya.
* LateForSchool: This is how Tokizane is introduced.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: In episode 11 [[spoiler:Nene and Nono explain that: Saya, Tokizane, Yuuka, Itsuki and the twins themselves are the main characters and the rest are just extra.]]
* LivingADoubleLife: There's sweet, naive, clumsy Saya, and then there's cold, red-eyed, monster-slayer Saya. Unusually for this trope, the former persona isn't an act meant to throw off suspicions, and the latter persona isn't an exaggerated attempt at intimidation.
* LivingShadow: The Elder Bairns in episode 6 [[spoiler:that possesses Nono]]
* LoveDodecahedron: Sort of. There's a mild one with Itsuki and Tokizane having feelings for Saya, who "loves" Fumito.
* LyricalDissonance: [[spoiler:The cheerful Nono and Nene in Episode 7... just an episode after their deaths. Talk about MoodWhiplash.]]
* MadeOfPlasticine
* MagicSkirt: Apparently just for Saya.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:Kisaragi means "to cloak oneself or change form," and was chosen specifically for Saya's role.]]

* {{Meganekko}}: Saya.
* {{Miko}}: Saya.
* MindScrew: [[spoiler:Gee, thanks, Episode 11.]]
* MissingMom: Saya's mother fought elder bairns herself, and died when Saya was a child. [[spoiler:Or did she?]]
* MonsterOfTheWeek: Starts off this way.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: The {{Samurai}} Elder Bairn in Episode 7.
** MultiWield
* NiceGuy: This is mainly the reason for Saya "loving" Fumito (for being kind, making delicious food, and listening to her). [[spoiler:He's ANYTHING but.]]
* NothingExcitingEverHappensHere: So it seems for the people who don't get to see the Elder Bairns. Which leads to
** BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: As Nene found out.
** And Nono would have if she were in her right mind.
* NoodleIncident: [[spoiler:What exactly were the Motoe twins arrested for?]]
** In episode 11, it's implied that [[spoiler:the twins were previously arrested for pimping out other girls when one of them suggests that they should get more school uniforms for "the girls" to wear, but that this time they'd have to be more careful]].
* NoodlePeople: Well, Creator/{{CLAMP}} ''is'' doing the character designs.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: [[spoiler:Everyone except Saya.]]
* ObliviousToLove: Saya. Poor Itsuki and Tokizane. [[spoiler:Or maybe [[FridgeBrilliance she can tell their hearts aren't in it]].]]
* OffModel:
** Fumito during a few scenes in Episodes 2 and 8.
** And the monster in Episodes 8 and 9. The tips of its fingers seem to have a different shape, depending on the shot. They're either a continuous purple blade or something resembling a scorpion's stinger.
* OffWithHisHead
* OhCrap: [[spoiler: The Motoe Twins, and Kanako in episode 12, when the nearby Elder Bairn kills Tokizane, and Fumito informs the the talismans protecting them from it, are fake. And he sics it on them as well.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:Yuka is well into her twenties.]]
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: They can look like just about anything (including a ''train''), they're called 'Elder Bairns', and... they're not really vampires at all. [[spoiler:Saya, though...]]

* RavenHairIvorySkin: Saya
* RapunzelHair: Saya.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When Saya's eyes change color, [[LetsGetDangerous it's over]].
* RedShirt: [[spoiler: ''The entire town'' besides the main cast is specifically designated as this by [[MagnificentBastard Fumito]]]].
* [[spoiler:RedemptionEqualsDeath:]] [[spoiler:Itsuki goes down protecting Saya, and admits that he was actually beginning to care for her.]]
* [[spoiler:Revenge:]] [[spoiler:Saya towards Fumito.]]
* ScreamingWarrior: Saya [[spoiler:in episode 12]]
* SceneryCensor: Played with when the dog appears while Saya is taking her bath.
* SceneryPorn
* SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack: Pretty much the only thing we've seen any of the teenagers wear, except for Saya's miko clothes. She even wears her school uniform when she's out hunting vampires.
* ShoutOut: The train in the third episode may have some relation to the one in BloodTheLastVampire, even if the train is [[spoiler:the monster]] in this case.
** Episode 6: [[spoiler:[[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Death by decapitation through a monster's maw]].]]
** Episode 7: The [[spoiler:dog]] owns a [[Manga/XXXHolic shop that grants wishes]].
*** Note that the [[spoiler:[[Creator/JunFukuyama seiyuu is even the same as Watanuki's]].]]
*** The monster of the day in Episode 7 looks a lot like Tadakatsu Honda from ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'', of which ProductionIG did the anime adaption for.
*** When Saya's memory returns in episodes 11 and 12 [[spoiler:we can see her fighting Fumito's army in her BloodTheLastVampire outfit, making this series a tentative ContinuityNod]].
* SingleMindedTwins: [[ThemeTwinNaming Nene and Nono]] Motoe.
** [[spoiler:CreepyTwins]]: [[spoiler:As of episode 11]]
* SmallTownBoredom: Nene and Nono, who wish that they could do more normal high-school things.
* SpecsOfAwesome: Saya.
* StrictlyFormula: Episodes 1 through 5 followed a predictable pattern. Sing on the way to school, play with the puppy, eat and chat with friends, and kill the MonsterOfTheWeek. [[spoiler:And then came [[WhamEpisode Episode 6...]]]]
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: Saya seems to only gain the strength to kill the MonsterOfTheWeek after they've managed to [[spoiler:[[KillEmAll slaughter everyone in sight]].]]
* SupremeChef: Fumito, who owns a coffee shop that Saya often visits.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Tokizane.
* TemptingFate: In Episode 8, one of the students in Saya's class remarks that the monster seems to be a MightyGlacier, giving them time to escape, seconds before it went LightningBruiser on them.
* ThemeTwinNaming: Nene and Nono Motoe.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Saya.
* TomatoInTheMirror: [[spoiler:Saya who is an Elder Bairn in human form.]]
* TooDumbToLive: The villagers, seriously. [[spoiler:It's understandable that they are not aware of the existence of the Elder Bairns. But when Saya tells them to run away while she deals with the monsters, they just stay on one spot near the battle field and then, they got killed.]]
* TownWithADarkSecret: [[spoiler:It increasingly seems like everyone is in on some sort of plot with the Elder Bairns. Then, well, look at the next trope down.]]
* [[spoiler:TrumanShowPlot]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Saya always eats Guimauve (or marshmallows) and drinks coffee. [[spoiler:Both are mixed with blood of the Elder Bairns]]
* [[spoiler:TrashTheSet: Episode 12. Asides from the villagers getting massacred by the bunny Elder Bairns, the whole town gets destroyed.]]
* UnorthodoxSheathing: Saya does this in the opening sequence by holding up her sword and having the sheath land perfectly in place.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Nobody comments when Saya brings her katana to school in Episode 6. By Episode 8, they [[SubvertedTrope start to take notice]].
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Saya. Big time.]]
** [[spoiler:All of the unfortunate villagers who have no idea that they're meant to be slaughtered when everything's over.]]
* VampireHunter: Saya, for certain values of 'vampire'.
* VaporWear: When the [[MultiArmedAndDangerous multi-armed]] {{Samurai}} Elder Bairn from Episode 7 cuts up the back of Saya's uniform, no bra is seen.
* WhamEpisode:
** Episode 6 throws the series into AnyoneCanDie territory with the deaths of [[spoiler:the Motoe twins.]]
** Episodes 8 and 9 together formed another WhamEpisode, where [[spoiler:Saya's [[KillEmAll entire class was slaughtered]], sans Tokizane and Itsuki.]]
** Episode 10 has the death of [[spoiler:Tokizane]] and the return, or not, of the dead [[spoiler: Motoe twins]]
** Episode 11. That is all.
* WeWillMeetAgain: [[spoiler: By the end of the last episode, Fumito knows that Saya will come after him which is basically the premise for the movie.]]
* WhamLine: Two in Episode 10. First...
-->'''Kanako:''' That's fine, but... [[spoiler:How long will you play at this stupid game?]]
** And after that:
-->[[spoiler:'''[[BackFromTheDead Nene and Nono]]''': It's all fake!]]
* WithFriendsLikeThese: [[spoiler: More like, with a sister like this. Nono knocks Nene over, so she can escape the Elder Bairn in episode twelve. She doesn't get away though.]]
** Also applies to Saya whose only real friend turned out to be [[spoiler:Itsuki]].
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler: Tokizane, the Motoe twins, and Kanako in episode twelve.]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Fumito:''']] [[spoiler: Actors who refuse to play their parts, should leave the stage.]]
** [[spoiler: Itsuki is also killed by Fumito's hand after he betrays him for Saya's sake. Yuka actually gets exactly what she wanted, though]]
