''Black Cat Detective'' (also known as Hei Mao Jing Zhang, or, Cpt. Black, or 黑猫警长) is a Chinese Animated Children's television show of the mid 80's (1984-1987), Beloved by children and adults alike. The show largely consists of Hei Mao kicking ass and taking names. Hei Mao is not unlike DirtyHarry, except that instead of being a cop who is committed to justice but not the rules, he's committed to justice in a world that ''has'' no rules. The other most frequent character seems to be known only as "OneEear", an evil mouse who lost his left ear during a police raid and wears a bandage on his head since then. The mice, on the whole, are thieving, evil, dirty and greedy. The show is quite different from American shows, because characters, both good and bad, frequently get KilledOffForReal. A couple of baby animals get eaten alive by an eagle, let's see... Oh yeah, he has a totally BadassCrew of other cats and pigeons.

!!Tropes:
* AnyoneCanDie: Bad guys, innocent bystanders and even some of the good guys.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: AKA "The moral of the story."
* {{Badass}}: Hei Mao Jing Zhang is the Chinese Police Chief Cat version of Creator/SamuelLJackson.
* BadassCrew: Hei Mao Jing Zhang's subordinates are shown to be very competent and disciplined. If Hei Mao orders them to do something, they ''will'' do that, period.
* BadassMustache: Well, actually they're whiskers. But Hei Mao strokes them as if they were.
* CarFu: Hei Mao and his men can do ''Motorbike Fu'' and then ''Helicopter Fu''
* CatsAreMean: Zigzaged. Hei Mao and his crew are ''brutal'' cops but on the other hand, they never maul anyone who didn't deserved it, and when some innocent is in danger, ''nothing'' will stop them from rescuing the halpless victim.
* CoolBike: All members of the police force ride one extremely cool bike that can also transform into an even cooler ''flying bike.''
* ConspicuouslyLightPatch: When the elephant... eats... bricks... [[ItMakesSenseInContext it made sense at the time, okay?]]
* CommissarCap: Hei Mao wears one, giving how he's in charge.
* CowboyCop
* CrapsaccharineWorld: It's a cute and colorful world where the local bad guys are evil, cowardly, amoral grade A+''dicks'' ready to rob, kidnap, murder or eat the locals. The only reason this isn't CrapSackWorld is because of Hei Mao and his men.
* CrazyConsumption: In one episode, an Hippo, a boar and an elephant raid a little village to eat their ... ''adobe bricks.'' ExtremeOmnivore to the extreme, yessir.
* DirtyCoward: Ear, along with the other mice. Taunt the police every chance they get but run with soiled pants the moment Hei Mao fires a shot.
* ExtremeMeleeRevenge: During one episode, a big, brutal rat staged a successful attack against the police's H.Q and crowned it by ''biting the neck off'' of Hei Mao's Lieutenant, then nailing a taunting note to his corpse with a ''dagger.'' You can guess Hei Mao's reaction to this.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin
* FunnyAnimal: All of them.
* HeroesPreferMotorcycles
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: Averted by Hei Mao's men, as they always wear their safety helmets and their headgear actually protects them from harm. Played straight with Hei Mao, as he wears a cool CommissarCap instead.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: "Ear" seems to get his name from the occasion when Hei Mao Jing Zhang shot a bullet at him, and missed. But the bullet, actually curves in mid-air, chases Ear, and then pierces Ear's ear, causing it to fall off. I guess that's why his name is not "Ears". [[DontExplainTheJoke Did ya.. Did ya see what I did there?]]
* MagicBullets
* PapaWolf: ''Don't'' harm Hei Mao's men.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Hei Mao is willing to take a few things on consideration before mauling or arresting someone. For example, in one episode a female praying mantis had killed and devoured her groom, and Hei Mao decided to let her go because he knew she wasn't evil and was only following her species' natural mating instincts.
* ShownTheirWork: During one episode, the police is called to investigate a murder. Once Hei Mao's crew arrive, they immediately isolate the crime scene, then carefully take pictures of the body and collect evidence before bagging the victim's remains and taking them to the police HQ to run a forensic analysis to determine the cause of death.
* WhiteGloves: Hard to say if this is it or not, because Chinese police officers actually do wear white gloves.
