A series like ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' is pretty much made to appeal to fans of the HumongousMecha genre. As such, the mere inclusion of a fan's favorite show since they were a kid is enough to cause rejoicing.
* ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Second Super Robot Wars Z: Hakai-hen]]''. The cast list was so beautiful it was first dismissed as a joke. When it was confirmed, there was much rejoicing.
** To put this into perspective, the hype regarding ''TengenToppaGurrenLagann'' was eclipsed by the other debuting series: ''DaiGuard'', ''ShinMazinger'', ''[[CodeGeass Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion]]'', ''MobileSuitGundam00'', and ''ArmoredTrooperVOTOMS'', the latter being one of the most wanted series in the past fifteen years. Then there's the fact the TV ''[[MobileSuitGundamWing New Mobile Report Gundam Wing]]'', ''{{Godmars}}'', ''MacrossFrontier'', [[{{Dancougar}} both]] [[DancougarNova Dancougars]] and ''[[GetterRobo Getter Robo Armageddon]]'' returning to the franchise, as well as almost ''every series from the previous game'' (with only two exceptions). The only quirky entry this time was ''Invincible Robo Trider G7'', which got some praise after Banpresto showed a completely unrelated cross series CombinationAttack between G7 and ''{{Zambot 3}}'' (such attacks have been wished for a while). Naturally, this cast listing was given the FanNickname "The Best Thing Ever".
** Think that's it? ''Hakai-hen'' sequel ''Saisei-hen'' adds in ''[[{{Gigantor}} New Gigantor]]'', season two of ''Gundam 00'', ''[[{{Macross 7}} Macross Dynamite 7]]'' (the last time we saw ''Macross 7'' was in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Super Robot Wars Alpha 3]]''), ''[[MacrossFrontier Macross Frontier: The Wings of Goodbye]]'', ''[[CodeGeass Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2]]'' and ''[[TengenToppaGurrenLagann Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Lagann-hen]]'', making the series list surpass over ''fourty''.
** Additionally, some players were very happy about what characters are apparently playable: [[ArmoredTrooperVOTOMS Shako]], [[CodeGeass Kallen Kozaki]] in her PlayboyBunny outfit and most of all, [[ShinMazinger Boss Borot]]. [[MemeticMutation IT'S THE AGE OF FATSO!]]
* Seeing ''{{Heroman}}'' in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsUX'' was a pleasant surprise for fans of the show after it pretty much came and went in Japan. ''AuraBattlerDunbine'' and ''NinjaSenshiTobikage'' returning after being absent since ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Super Robot Wars Impact]]'' was another positive. Speaking of ''Dunbine'', ''TheWingsOfRean'' finally makes its [=SRW=] debut after showing up in three installments of the ''AnotherCenturysEpisode'' franchise before.
** The inclusion of ''VisualNovel/{{Demonbane}}'', for two reasons: not only is it a long awaited series, but it also [[UrbanLegendOfZelda debunks the fan theory]] that Banpresto won't ever include HumongousMecha adaptations from {{Eroge}}. In other words, there's a likely chance any VisualNovel with mecha *cough* ''VisualNovel/MuvLuvAlternative'' *cough* can be in an [=SRW=].
*** Note that while Banpresto primarily used the AnimatedAdaptation of ''Demonbane'', ''UX'' does have a few bits from the original source.
** ''LinebarrelsOfIron'' made its debut in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsL'', but ''UX'' forgoes its AnimatedAdaptation in favor of the manga, [[PragmaticAdaptation considered by most to be better]].
** [[Music/{{Vocaloid}} Hatsune]] [[UnexpectedCharacter Miku]] in ''Super Robot Wars'' (leeks included)
* ''Super Robot Wars OE'' (Operation Extend) had fans cheering: the Eldoran Trilogy, the return of the original ''MobileSuitGundam'' and ''BlueCometSPTLayzner'', ''[=VOTOMs=]'' and the debut of ''{{Patlabor}}'', another series fans have been asking for in years.
* ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Third Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-hen]]'' got this due to having ''RebuildOfEvangelion'', ''Gurren Lagann'' and '''{{GUNBUSTER}}''' in the same game. If there was another "[[FanNickname Holy Trinity]]" for HumongousMecha out there, it would be these three series courtesy of {{Gainax}}.
** The trailer also showed some fan-favorites making it back into [=SRW=], such as ''FullMetalPanic'', meaning TheStoic duo of [[MobileSuitGundamWing Heero Yuy]] and [[FullMetalPanic Sousuke Sagara]] will likely return (their last outing was in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsW''). Also, the end of the trailer shows the [[TengenToppaGurrenLagann Super Galaxy Gurren-Lagann]], an indication ''Jigoku-hen'' won't stop the plot of ''Gurren Lagann'' early this time, unlike ''Saisei-hen''.
*** The release of the second trailer reveals the eponymous Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. As expected, fans are excited, since the unit will be a full-fledged one, rather than like the Arc Gurren Lagann in ''Saisei-hen'' where it's only available in an attack. Either Banpresto is rectifying this or something else the size of a galaxy (aside from the Anti-Spiral's EvilCounterpart of the titular unit) is dangerous enough to have the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann as a playable unit.

* When ''[[GaidenGame Original Generation Gaiden]]'' was announced, many players weren't pleased they'll be seeing essentially an extended rehash of the bonus section from the previous "2.5" scenario of ''[[VideoGameRemake Original Generations]]''. The suspense was even ruined regarding [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsReversal Fiona Gureden]] being StuffedIntoTheFridge in the previous installment, no thanks to [[TrailersAlwaysSpoil one trailer]]. Just as the game neared its release date -- wait a minute: the Cry Wolves of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsMX''!? Once the game was launched -- [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Axel Almer]] '''AND''' [[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Einst Alfimi]]]] have come BackFromTheDead!?
* ''[[EndlessFrontier Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Endless Frontier]]'' seemed like a poor excuse of having {{Expy}} upon {{Expy}} of existing [=SRW=] originals being placed in an EasternRPG setting. Once information about new character [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Aschen Blodel]] being a [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAdvance W-Series]] ArtificialHuman was revealed, alongside being created from the main series' {{continuity}}, fans were starting to be receptive of this SpinOff (especially since this makes ''Endless Frontier'' canon to the main installments). When [[NamcoXCapcom Reiji Arisu, Xiaomu]] and [[{{Xenosaga}} KOS-MOS]] rounded out the last of the playable cast, that was enough for fans to consider this worth looking into, since this means ''NamcoXCapcom'' and ''{{Xenosaga}}'' are effectively part of [[TheMultiverse the Banpresto multiverse]].
** Likewise, the ''Endless Frontier EXCEED'' sequel didn't seem to attract much hype, as the only new characters are [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Aledy Naash and Neige Hausen]] (the former being yet another blatant {{Expy}} of an [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 SRW protagonist]]). Once Axel, [[spoiler:Alfimi]] and [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Fighter Roar]] were seen in the trailers.....''yeah'' (despite Roar being a support character than a fully playable one).
** One of the follow-up ''EXCEED'' trailers showcased the antagonists and the BigBad, the latter who beared a resemblance to ''[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Wodan Ymir]]''. Even better, the same trailer highlighted that bosses from the previous game will join the party as part of the support line-up. Hell, even [[NamcoXCapcom Saya]] gets a friggin' CombinationAttack with Reiji and Xiaomu!
* Much of the hype surrounding the ''Second Original Generation'' was the result of {{Unexpected Character}}s, to wit the rest of the ''[[Characters/MasouKishin Masou Kishin]]'' cast (sans [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki Andoh, Shu Shirakawa and Lune Zoldark]]) finally make their appearance in main continuity via the events of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsEX'', after an eleven-year absence from consoles since ''Alpha Gaiden''. Bonus rejoicing when fans discovered the ''Masou Kishin'' units can gain their final attacks as an unlockable treat, despite violating canon, which adds to the unexpectedness.
** Furthermore, the trailers for the game made it clear the antagonists are the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Gaia Sabers, Garden of Baral]], [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsDestiny Ruina]] and the ''MX'' villains. The one faction players didn't think would appear already? '''[[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic THE GUESTS]]]]'''
*** Additionally, players assumed the FinalBoss would be the same one from ''Alpha 2''. It is, [[spoiler:until the TrueFinalBoss appears and it's '''[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha EUZETH GOZZO]]''', the same person from ''Super Hero Sakusen'' and ''Alpha'', pulling one of the greatest [[HijackedByGanon villain hijackings]] yet, complete with "[[MemeticMutation THAT WAS ME AS WELL!!!]]"]]
* It was a long wait, but we finally get to play as [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fbn6IwnvDYE Shu in his story]] from ''EX'' in the ''Dark Prison'' DownloadableContent.
** Wait a second: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbfDb3sj6dE is that]] [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Selena Recital]]?!
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI8X3g6ewjo A follow-up trailer]] reveals more attacks for Shu's Granzon, culminating with the [[spoiler:[[EleventhHourSuperpower Neo]] [[GameBreaker Granzon]]]]. Of course, as per his story from ''EX'', this is mandatory, but to include [[spoiler:the same code input that unlocks the Neo Granzon RIGHT OFF THE BAT IN A SECOND PLAYTHROUGH? '''YES''']].
** One in-game event in ''Dark Prison'' that has got fans hyped for the next ''Original Generation'' game is when [[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Irui Gan Eden]] fires and destroys a portion of the moon. Anyone who has played ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsJudgment'']] [[{{Foreshadowing}} knows what this means...]]
* When ''Masou Kishin: Coffin of the End'' was announced, the hype for the ''Masou Kishin'' series was already dying (and likely the reason why this installment is being billed as the GrandFinale). Cue the first magazine scans and the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN35usvX4sI teaser trailer]] showing [[spoiler:Shu being TheCaptain of a new battleship, a trashed Neo Granzon, [[Characters/MasouKishin Tytti Noorbuck]] using a mass-produced Regelior-AR instead of her Elemental Lord Gaddeath and ''[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Amara]] [[UnexpectedCharacter Balshem]]'', who wasn't KilledOffForReal and winds up in La Gias]]. All of a sudden, players who aren't necessarily ''Masou Kishin''-centric are excited for this installment.
