Here are some examples of flaws that might cause a work to become Deader Than Disco:

* HypeBacklash that makes a work go from hugely popular to almost universally hated. This is the most important criterion.
* Any work that suffers from TheChrisCarterEffect. The audience might abandon it when they don't feel like anything has been resolved.
* Works that are created to showcase new special effects, technologies or techniques when they inevitably become outdated.
* Any work where the FranchiseOriginalSin becomes a major problem.
* Works that suffer from ValuesDissonance badly enough, especially if UnfortunateImplications come into play.
** Works with a FairForItsDay perspective, especially if the mainstream of their time was [[DamnedByFaintPraise extremely objectionable by modern standards]].
* Works that unironically use {{Discredited Trope}}s, or {{Dead Horse Trope}}s.
* Works that have [[FanDumb overly annoying fans]].
* Works that become a popular [[SnarkBait victim of public mockery]].
* Works whose [[FleetingDemographic target demographic outgrows them]].
* The works of a DarthWiki/FallenCreator.
* Works that are [[OvershadowedByControversy overshadowed by a real-life controversy]].
* Works that suffer from HarsherInHindsight or {{Funny Aneurysm Moment}}s.
* Works that address topics that were controversial at the time, but became old hat later on.
* Works that suffer from SeinfeldIsUnfunny, where they have been copied so much that they don't seem original.
* Works that rely on a [[DancingBear Gimmick]], when the gimmick grows old, or is copied too much.
* LongRunners if:
** [[ItsTheSameSoItSucks They don't change their plotlines or formula.]]
** [[WereStillRelevantDammit They attempt to catch younger audiences by using fads.]]
** [[KudzuPlot The plot becomes too complex]], [[TheChrisCarterEffect with no resolutions]] or [[EndingFatigue ending.]]
** [[SeasonalRot They get just plain bad.]]
* Works that are subject to MagnumOpusDissonance: even if the work is generally considered good anyway, a creator can lose his/her goodwill by [[WolverinePublicity talking it up too much]].
* Works whose place in popular culture is replaced by another work.
* Works that are being constantly compared negatively to another work (e.g. a film or performance that wins an Oscar over another film/performance whose reputation would continue to grow over time).
* Works that just don't stand out to modern-day audiences amongst other similar works like they did during their own time periods.
* {{Unintentional Period Piece}}s.
* Musicians who can't even chart to save their lives.
* TV shows that have long since gone off the air.
