Good trope, you thought of all the examples I knew, but needs a better title. I'm going to suggest Elaborately Organized Notes or something.

I named it "String Theory" because that's what Future Hiro used to describe it, but Elaborately Organized Notes works too.

Room Full Of Crazy does this sometimes.

    Bump?

Yeah, rename; String Theory is something else.

String Theory is good. I vote keep. It's a great description and a good pun, considering the real string theory is about the nature of reality, and this is about people keeping track of changes in reality with pieces of string and using theories.

    Already taken, apparently. Thoughts?

It's fine as a name since we almost certainly shouldn't have a page for real String Theory, because it's not a work, and even if we did, it would be useful notes. An Avatar, for example, is a Hindu thing, but we have a page for ourselves. Indeed, if it wasn't already a thing, the title wouldn't be a pun. And, I humbly suggest, a decent one.

    Seconding String Theory, hilarious name.

Not the problem, the problem is that there is already a webcomic under the same name "String Theory." So unless we play around with the name, or open up a String Theory page, then we're out a name.

I still think this shouldn't be called String Theory. But purely from a technical viewpoint: we could move the webcomic to Webcomic/StringTheory and have this be in Mainspace (since there is a Webcomic namespace, but not a Trope namespace).

So, if we have that issue more or less settled, are we tapped out on examples then?

Examples are a bust then. Launch or Drop?

All right, last go at it. Who is in favor of launching this under the title String Theory and bumping out the webcomic, let alone launching it at all?

I think it should be launched. The name is great, and there's nothing wrong with bumping the webcomic to the proper namespace. Maybe put a "not to be confused with" link to it somewhere in the body of the article or some such.

To be perfectly honest I think the description could be a bit clearer. I get what the trope is about, but I feel like the description doesn't get to it quickly enough and is a bit confusing. The overall style of the entry is great, mind you, I just think it can be a bit clearer.

But I like the trope itself. It may not have a ton of examples, but it has enough to be viable, and new ones may be added over time.

As an aside, I knew someone who used this trope in Real Life. >_>

I'm not a huge fan of the name, since it's easily confused with the actual scientific String Theory...

Yes, it uses a term that commonly refers to one thing in order to refer to a different thing, to which the term can also apply -- in a way that is less obvious but nonetheless perfectly logical. This results in humour, which is enjoyed by many.

Also, the scientific string theory itself is not a trope, while this is. This fact in itself can help clear up any confusion that does result, though I for one doubt many people will actually start putting examples about scientific string theory on this page.
