"Hello, Zuko here. But I guess you probably already know me, sort of... Uh, so, the thing is, I have a lot of firebending experience and I'm considered to be pretty good at it. Well, you've seen me... you know, when I was attacking you?... Uh, yeah, I guess I should apologize for that. B-but anyway... I'm good now. I mean I thought I was good before but now I realize I was bad... B-but anyway... I think it's time I joined your group and taught the Avatar firebending...Well?! What's your answer?!"

So, um, well...sometimes it's - I mean, like, an Extremely Awkward Monologue, that is - caused by an awkward silence...or, uh, not knowing what to say on a particular subject. And also, you know, like, when they're talking in front of people? Like I am now? What's the word? You know? Like, the opposite of private? Oh! Oh, oh! I think it's public speaking. Yeah. That.

...Oh, yeah! Or a pair of rivals or opponents being forced to speak. Yeah, I forgot. If one of those happens, an Extremely Awkward Monologue will commence. I think. Is that what commence means? Yeah.

This also happens when, you know, someone's lying. Not that I would ever lie to you! But, I mean, sometimes when someone's lying, things get...awkward. And when you kind of epically fail at a speech. Like, yeah.

But, finally, er, when someone's, you know, asking someone else on a date? Yeah. Awkwardness. It ensues...

An Extremely Awkward Silence can be characterize by it not making any sense. That's it, right? Wait, no, it can also be totally off topic, or having a lot of stuttering and... [[Beat pausing a ton.]] And they keep talking for, like...ever...

This may be suffered by a very confident character to show that he is, in fact, human, and can get nervous.

May overlap with That Came Out Wrong and other types of monologues, like Inner Monologues and Audience Monologue

Examples

  • As shown in the quote above, Zuko of Avatar The Last Airbender has an Extremely Awkward Monologue when tries to convince the Gaang to let him be Aang's firebending teacher.
    • Sokka also suffers an Extremely Awkward Monologue when trying to present the invasion plan.
Sokka: Uhm… So, as you know today we’re invading the Fire Nation. I mean I know you know that. Because otherwise why else would you be here‌ Anyway… The Fire Lord’s palace is here. Uh no, uh wait, uh wait, uh wait and uh there’s an eclipse today and Aang’s going to fight the Fire Lord and the firebenders won’t have any fire to use so that’s good for us and uhm… I’m sorry, let me start at the beginning. Katara and I discovered Aang frozen in an iceberg.
  • Elan from Order Of The Stick tries to give a Rousing Speech before the Battle of Azure City, but it ends up as this trope instead.
