Mirror Duet

A character uses their reflection as a singing partner

Name Space:

Trope
Some songs sound better if an entire group is singing it. Sometimes it's just cool to sing a duet with yourself. I can't find this trope in Please Reflect On This Index. Up For Grabs.

  • In Disney's Cinderella our heroine does this with an entire chorus of her reflections in the soap bubbles around her. Video!
  • In Disney's Babes in Toyland Mary does this with her color-coordinated mirror duplicates. Video!

    • Saturday Night Live
      • Mick Jagger does a Mirror Routine with Jimmy Fallon as his reflection which includes singing with himself.
      • Years later when Fallon came back to host the show, they did pretty much the exact same sketch only with Fallon as himself and Andy Samberg as Fallon's reflection, including a "duet" singing Kermit the Frog impression.
    • In Mary Poppins Mary's mirror reflection has a few lines in "A Spoonfull of Sugar" before breaking out in a scene stealing aria of its own.

    • In The Muppets, the song "Man or Muppet" has Jason Segel sings into a window, and his reflection is a Muppet, singing back to him. Then, for the next verse of the song, the Muppet Walter sings into a mirror, and Jimmy Fallon is his reflection.

We already have pretty much this trope as Solo Duet.

A subtrope or sister trope, perhaps.

^ i can't see this fitting there. it's distinct enough.

Mirror Duet seems to be a better name if Mirror Monologue works.

Is this a trope worthy of further work, or should it be chucked?

In Mary Poppins. While Mary is singing "A Spoonful of Sugar", her reflection begins to echo her words. Then the reflection briefly sings a few notes on its own.
