Holes, both the book and the movie, but more blatantly in the movie. Stanley Yelnats' family had been cursed with bad luck. When Stanley manages to break the curse, at the exact same moment (going movie-canon here) a bolt comes off the wall in his father's house, sending a jar of spices into a pot where he's boiling an ancient shoe, trying to come up with a way of deodorising it, as he has been doing for the whole of the story so far. It works. The smell goes. Stanley, meanwhile, has found some buried treasure, and the authorities involved in the horribly illegal Camp Green Lake all get arrested and it finally rains again when it has not rained there for exty years. The product gets turned into something called Sploosh and makes the family millions. Stanley's treasure pays for his best friend Hector to hire a search party to find his estranged mother. It all ends happily.

Seems like what you're suggesting is that, once the curse is broken, there is a tidal wave of good fortune, almost as if it had been saving itself up all those eons waiting for the curse to break.

Morgan Wick: Reading the new Holes entry inspired me to suggest this YKTTW. It seemed so obvious that there would be so many other examples (it even seemed like one of The Oldest Ones In The Book)... but no one has any.

I didn't intend for the "tidal wave of good fortune" part, just that some good fortune happens where it did not happen for ages.

I seem to remember one show where the curse is broken and the barren farm receives precious rain.

So what you're saying is that when a curse is broken, something instantly happens to demonstrate that it is no longer in place, right?

Morgan Wick: That's only part of it. I was thinking about broken curses in general. In fact, if there's a curse in a movie, or other one-off entertainment, it will be broken. (On TV, of course, Failure Is The Only Option.) It's common to have a plot based around trying to reverse the curse. Why, we could have a page about just plain curses.

I like Curse Is Foiled Again, better than what I was thinking anyway (Karmic Backtaxes (-_-) ). But yeah, generally an undeserved curse is like a flood gate holding back so much pent up good fortune; or is in and of itself accumulating "Good Fortune Interest" for the suffering it's unjustly putting the person/family through.

If like in the Disney Beauty and the Beast it's a deserved curse, there might be a whoosh of lights, but things go back to pre-curse status-quo fortune wise, save for maybe a romantic hookup or two.

Okay, I'm good. I vote for that one.

Karmic Backtaxes is more wry, but Curse Is Foiled Again is more descriptive, so I suppose I'll go for the latter.
