The hero or player character of a story or game begins by being mentored by another character, who eventually turns out to be the villain. This could be because they've changed over the course of the story, or because they had villainous reasons for teaching them in the first place.

I can think of numerous examples but as this is potentially a spoiler trope I'm not sure they can be posted here without spoiling random things for other people.
