I'm going to need some help writing up a description here.

A train leaves city A, travelling east at 35 mph. A second train leaves city B, travelling in the opposite direction at 55mph. Assuming A and B are 70 miles apart, how long until the trains meet?

You've seen questions like these before. In fact, every time an algebra test comes up in a school setting, this (or some variation) is almost guaranteed to be the first one on the test. Expect to see anything and everything but the students actually attempting to solve the problem.

Newspaper comics

  • In one sequence of Calvin and Hobbes, Calvin is given this question in a test and promptly slips into his "Tracer Bullet" persona. "Why was B in such a hurry?"
