Do you have any examples of this? I can't recall any sort of pattern.

That's one example, but is it a trend? Something like this is going to happen every now and then by coincidence, but is there any reason to believe that it's especially common or that there is any kind of narrative reason?

Even with the Simpsons example (which I admit I haven't seen), if there is no connection to vegetarianism drawn in the episode it could just as easily be considered an example of Shopkeeper Dies First, Indian Guy Dies First, Character With Three Letter First Name And Insanely Long Surname Dies First or any other random description of Apu you could apply.

Plus, the name makes it sound like it'd be about the literal vegetarian alternatives to meat (veggie burgers, eggplant steaks, etc).

There was the episode of Futurama, the trouble with popplers, where the only person who does die is the vegetarian hippie. It doesn't quite count, but it's something. But since it's done by the same people as the Simpsons, maybe it's just a statement about vegetarians.

If you can find other examples of this, I might give it credence, but characters rarely advertise their dietary habits unless it's plot-revelent.

^^Of course we don't talking about literal vegetarian alternatives to meat, we talking about this: being vegetarian can put you in the bottom of the Food Chain

It might just be an aspect of Acceptable Targets. Lots of people find vegetarians annoying, and so they might get killed off.

I have a book with a Lateral Thinking Puzzle in it involving a vegetarian who, in one of those Aint No Party Like A Donner Party lifeboat situations, volunteers to be eaten so as not to eat flesh. I believe we had a YKTTW involving situations where a vegetarian has to eat meat to survive and that may be related.

Yes, vegetarianism already has its own section on the Acceptable Targets subpage Acceptable Lifestyle Targets. It doesn't seem to me that this trope would cover anything that isn't already there (except examples, which don't seem to be numerous enough to make it worthwhile to add a list of them.)

Three days must pass before this YKTTW is Launchworthy or Discardable
