When a kid has their parent or other relative as a teacher.

One upside to having Amazingly Embarrassing Parents is they're not around to embarrass you at school, unless you're that unlucky kid who has a parent as their teacher.

(Probably needs a better title, since this could apply to any embarrassing relative or any job in a school)

Examples:

Western Animation
  • The Simpsons: Marge briefly became Bart's subtitute teacher after he drove all the other subs away. She calls him "sweetie" in class.
  • Teacher's Pet: Leonard Helperman had his mom as his teacher for the whole year until the movie.
  • The Buzz on Maggie: In the episode "Lunchlady" the kids' parents took over the school staff's jobs.
  • Hey Arnold!: In the episode "Student Teacher" Helga's older sister Olga took a job teaching Helga's class.

Question: does the parent have to be embarrassing? Or even, not really embarassing but the kid thinks they are? Or, kid gets ragged on for having a parent/teacher (etc.) at the school? That is, the kid isn't embarrassed, and the parent isn't embarrassing, but his friends make fun of him.

The kid has to be embarrassed for it to be a straight example. If the kid isn't embarrassed it's a subversion.

Discussed in the movie Cellular the teacher's son is worried that he'll have to have her as a teacher when he attends her school next year; she thinks it would be a splendid idea.

Raine, Genis's older sister, teaches Genis's class in Tales Of Symphonia. While he is embarrassed by her sometimes, it's never within the actual school setting, since there are no ruins or cooking in school

Subversion: Full House had an episode in which Joey was hired to teach for Michelle's class. She and her friends expected him to let them play and goof around in class. However, he insisted on acting very professional and enforcing discipine in the classroom, which led to Michelle getting angry because he wasn't acting silly and giving her preferential treatment.

It's probably worth noting that in Real Life schools will usually make a point to avoid this because of worries over favoritism and professionalism (and concern for the child's social development). If a teacher has a kid in the school they will almost always make sure to place that kid in a different class.

    I don't think so.

    Literature:

In the novel Teacher's Pet by Morris Gleitzman, the protagonist Ginger has both her parents working as teachers at school.

In the 1968 film Candy (based on a parody semi-pornographic book which was itself loosely based on Candide) Candy's father is also one of her teachers. In an inversion, he's the one embarrassed by her, even though the Wacky Hijinks that happen to her aren't her fault.

I think this needs a link to Homeschooled Kids so people don't get confused.

I remember a sister trope called Teachers Out Of School, which is when a student meets their teacher out of a classroom setting.

It would be unprofessional for a parent of a student to act like a parent in school.
