Everyone Volunteers

When a call for volunteers is raised, one by one everyone volunteers.

Name Space:
Page Type:
A call for volunteers is raised. The crowd murmurs and shuffles uncertainly, there are a lot of sideways glances, but no-one moves forward. After a tense few seconds, however, one person raises their hand. Cue a musical crescendo as more people join in - and ultimately everyone has volunteered... or, at least everyone important to the story.

This is a sister trope of Slow Clap. Perhaps both could be fit under a "One Starts The Trend" umbrella, encompassing applause, volunteering, singing (in silence one person starts to sing and everyone joins in), cheering, etc..? Suggestions welcome.

Sometimes has the leader drawing a Line In The Sand for volunteers to step across. That page mentions the "reluctant volunteering" bit, but this is a separate trope.

    • Subverted in Night Watch, where Vimes (posing as his own mentor in the past, John Keel) knows full well not everyone will join him (he doesn't even know if the younger version of himself will, even though he knew he himself did, because of the time paradox). Some of those who didn't step forward even join the palace guard and fight against them.

Hmm, actually, Line In The Sand covers both all- and no-volunteer scenarios, both immediate and gradual. So the volunteering aspect of this is there all right.

So, then, would it make sense to make the umbrella term instead..? One that would cover Slow Clap, Line In The Sand and perhaps more?

Also a bit related to I Am Spartacus.

    • Disneys The Jungle Book: Colonel Hathi asks for volunteers and turns around while asking them to step in front (of course nobody moves). When he turns back he is delighted to see that everyone volunteers.
    • Played with in a Droopy short: A Line of Mounties are asked for volunteers and they all step one Step back leaving only Droopy as a volunteer.

The Droopy example above is Got Volunteered. This trope is about either everyone volunteering, or no-one backing out.

I do think Line In The Sand covers the current trope. But there is value in a trope index for tropes like this one. I'd go with the simple Bandwagon Tropes. After all, Line In The Sand, the Slow Clap, I Am Spartacus, etc, are all cases where one person does it, then another, and very soon everyone is doing it.

Very much seconded. Do I just convert this to an index suggestion, or are those done via TRS?
