Too Strong For The Plot
Character is conveniently put out of action because he would resolve the plot too easily.

Before I flesh this out and add examples, Do We Have This One?? A character is so powerful and badass he would effectively be a Crutch Character, or he has a specific power that would easily resolve this episode's problem (An Ice Person when they're facing a Mad Scientist with a Freeze Ray, for example.) So the writers have him conveniently removed (NOT the enemy deliberately taking him out in advance) so the lesser characters have to put in some effort to trying to stop the Big Bad.

It seems like we have this one, but I can't find it.
