Good Guy Finish

Someone gives up winning a race to help a disadvantaged opponent.

They may just tie instead of losing the race.

e.g. In Cars where Lightning McQueen saves Strip "The King" Weathers instead of winning the Piston Cup. It's currently listed under Dudley Do-Right Stops to Help, but that doesn't seem to fit that well.

Also The Octonauts and the Penguin Race.

It is indeed Dudley Do Right Stops To Help. Whether it is right for Dudley to actually do it depends on context and how the work itself judges it.

    • In Stone Fox, the titular character, a Native American sled-racing champion who never talks to white people, concedes the race to Little Willy who needs the prize money to save his grandfather's land and whose dog Searchlight has just died of a heart attack. Stone Fox holds back all the other competitors at gunpoint in order to let Little Willy carry Searchlight's body across the finish line.

I guess Dudley Do Right Stops To Help could be expanded to cover it. Presently its description is a bit too specific, and seems to cover only people being chased, not races. A few of the examples reference races. Thoughts?

^ "a few of the example references races".

So yeah, it is broad already.

Yeah, those race examples don't seem to fit well though - compare them to the trope description. If this trope goes ahead, they would definitely be moved here. The alternative is to add multiple senses to the Dudley description, but it seems like it's getting very broad.

"This trope is why a Good Aligned character will always blow his cover when infiltrating a Wretched Hive. ": nothing to do with being chased. Example As A Thesis is making this sound more narrow to you than you think. This trope is for whenever helping someone isn't likely to be a "good" idea, but The Hero insists on doing it.

^^^^ I agree with expanding the Description of Dudley Do Right Stops To Help to include races.

OK. It's on my to-do list :) . We can discard this one.
