Ever notice how in dystopian futures, especially of the Time Travel meddling induced variety, normal guys are ripped, soulpatch wearing badasses? The Ditz is a grizzled combat vet, and the loser leads La Résistance?

That's a pity... which is why this trope must rise like the phoenix it is destined to be! Ah-hahahahah!... *cough* Sorry about that.

More on topic, this is lampshaded in Kim Possible in the episode Shego takes over the world with a time travel monkey. Ron comments that even the overweight Wade The Smart Guy is huge, bearded, and muscly. Oh, and so are all the Rufus clones. Wade says something along the lines of evil getting you motivated/in shape.

Happens in Megas XLR too, where Jamie the slacker is leads La Resistance and even looks handsomer.

    I like Future Badasss

And I remember last time this trope came up, mentioning that Reboot did this twice to Enzo. First in the episode where Dot is given a "Wonderful Life" vision of what the future would be like without her, and Enzo is a bitter, scarred, leather wearing teen badass, and then later in season 3 when the show went Darker And Edgier, they had Enzo develop into the fully grown, bitter, scarred, leather wearing badass Matrix.

The TV movie of Dexter's Laboratory (In the dystopian future version of himself, as there were multiple futures.)

    Didn't someone propose Future Badass?

Like in that Time Travel episode of Godzilla TAS, with a greatly changed Mendel and his war-N.I.G.E.L ?

I also remember that TMNT episode that subverted it with elderly Ninja Turtles in the future...

Happens in Billy and Mandy with Edwin being the leader of La Resistance and is a ripped mercenary, too.

I actually mentioned this at one point, but it never became a trope.

Examples: Strong Sad in one Homestar Runner Flash Forward, Timmy's friends in that one Fairly Odd Parents Made For TV Movie...

Future Badass is an awesome name for this trope.

And while we're discussing future badasses, how about Future Trunks from Dragonball Z? This was the guy who totaled both Frieza and his father King Cold, which up until that time were considered the supreme badasses of the universe, on his first appearance.

His reason for traveling through time to take them out? To get Goku and the gang ready to fight the Androids, which had all but destroyed the Earth in Trunks's future, as well as give Goku the cure for the heart disease that he got back on Planet Yadrat, which had killed him in Trunks's timeline before the Androids arrived.
