Needs More Examples

In this work of fiction, everyone on the main cast is a Woobie. All of them are sympathetic and have various dark, depressing and gloomy backstories. The Hero watched his father die before his eyes as a child, The Lancer has his best friend stab him in the back and leave him for dead, The Chick had her hometown destroyed while she watched helpless, and so forth. Likely to be present in a Crapsack World setting.

  • Inuyasha, the binding ties of the main heroes is that all of them have had their lives ruined and loved ones slaughtered by the Big Bad Naraku.

I think this would have to be a YMMV since Woobie and subtropes of such are, but I think there's potential here. Was inspired by Badass Crew, World Of Ham, World Of Snark, and so forth.

This seems like a lower-scale version of that trope. It's arguable as to how distinct this is from that, though.

    • The large majority of the Winnie The Pooh cast, especially in the Disney adapations. While it's owed a fair amount to their normally cutesy designs and behaviour, almost every character has been given a notable poignant development to endear themselves to the audience (eg. Piglet is Nervous Wreck, Eeyore is perpetually depressed and self deprecating, Rabbit is a neurotic Only Sane Man).
