Wombo Combo

A one-sided battle where a team/group defeats a single opponent in one long sequence of attacks

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
Named after this you tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD_imYhNoQ4

The wombo combo is a subtrop of Combination Attack, where the combo is against a single enemy, which is defeated without chance for retaliation/counterattack.

Another example would be from One Piece, both pre and post time skip, when the Strawhats gang up on the Pacifistas.

The party's sequential fight against the Bahamut in Final Fantasy VII Advent Children?

I think this might need a better title. Linked video aside, I doubt that many readers outside of the SSB fandom (and fighting game community) will get the title and I'm positive there's a more fitting way to describe the idea at hand.

This does need a better name. Wombs? Wombats?

Not actually sure what the wombo stands for. As X 2 X pointed out, its based around Super Smash Bros. fan terminology. In that sense, it means any combo which can kill an opponent with 0% damage, and which started they cannot avoid. Only other titles I could come up with were some variations of "gang bang" which is probably a bit too NSFW

I don't have the time right now, but perfects in the Marvel Vs Capcom community are actually not ''that' uncommon due to the high level of mixups and potential combo damage in those games. It'd be great if someone could link some of that stuff.

How different is this from Curb Stomp Battle?

Curb Stomp Battle meets Combination Attack. I doubt it's worth a separate trope.

    All Out Attack?

Advent Children had something like this where every single member of the team contributed to killing the villain.

Gurren Lagann Lagann Hen film had something like that, explaining it is a spoiler. The Gurren hen film has a villainous version, and explaining it needs a spoiler.

In Final Fantasy VII, the summon Knights of the Round calls forth a Wombo (whatever it means) Combo of thirteen knights who utterly devastate the enemy.

Perhaps it is safer than saying Gang Bang which has an awful reputation as a NSFW terminology.

Is this supposed to mean a battle that ends up being a Curb Stomp Battle, because the other side has no chance to get actions in, because the other side employs long and powerful combos to destroy them on their first turn?

Does it have to involve a team? There are infinite combos in some fighting games that don't require assists.

This is also common in professional wrestling, especially at house shows, where multiple faces beat down a heel or vice-versa with their finishers.

Although I personally would love to see, if the trope happens, Wombo Combo as an alternative title.

So this is about a combo that is possible to KO the enemy on one go? Or something else?

Should be renamed. "Wombo" doesn't really tell you anything on its own.

Should this be marked Up For Grabs?

I'll grab this... and I'll discard this to oblivion. This is covered by several tropes already.

Let's see here...We have an old YKTTW whose sponsor likely isn't around to take care of it any more, it suffers from Trope Namer Syndrome, and it's essentially just Curb Stomp Battle But More Specific. Yeah, I don't think this one will be missed if you do discard it.
