Troped

Baked Index

Tropes about baked products and baking,

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
trope

Needs A Caption.

I seem to have noticed that the index Have Your Cake and Trope It Too feels to short to be an index, so I'm proposing a much broader index for cakes and other baked goods. Pizza included.

I'm keeping the HEYEAHYEAHEYAH video reference on the description though. Although there's always suggestions for a better and witty description.

Not for the gluten intolerant.

Now, All you got to do is add a cup of flour and add it to the mix. We'll be cooking by the book, for now it's time for cake! And other baked goods.

These are all about tropes about the bakery, the cakes, the pies, the cookies, the cupcakes, the pastries, the pizza, and the other baked goods, and baking in general. This is not an index about getting baked

Best with coffee or tea. Beer for pizza.

When one Drives Like Crazy just to deliver your hot and freshly-baked pizza to your doorstep The French know how to leave you into a world of pain. A wedding cake is just tad boring without a miniature version of the newlyweds. Carrying a giant cake should be easy as pie, right? After a good fight, have a freshly baked Hostess Fruit Pie and have a good laugh. Cops love the smell of freshly baked donuts in the morning. They always deflate, or explode, at even the slightest of movements. The one you often see at Christmas. "I'd like to order a Margherita, please. Oh, but no pineapple." Too much of yeast is just overkill. You'd hope they're not kidding. Top it with a nail file, and the guards won't still notice. Happy Birthday, indeed. "Like pie, life hits you in the face." Increasing the temperature for quicker baking? Good luck with that... Watch out! It's cherry filled! They come in handy when you're Late for School.

I think these sections will be so small that I don't think they need to be split by type (cake, bread, cookie/brownie, pastry)

    Useless index.

I think the description should clarify that this is not about figures of speech (e.g. The Cake Is A Lie) or about tropes or works that have food items in their titles (e.g. Cake Boss). This index could also include stuff like Oven Logic (as already suggested), but I think the description should include a line about including tropes related to baking and not only baked goods. (My concern is that there might be confusion down the line with people possibly edit warring over tropes like Oven Logic.)

    Not without an index image.

Is this going to replace Have Your Cake And Trope It Too?

To address the "useless index" critique, I'd like to say that pretty much all of the indices that aren't in the "Crucial Browsing" featured on every page is arguably "useless." Moreover, I think this is as "useless" as Food Tropes, which is to say not really useless.

Before this gets launched, can we put the descriptions in note markup? Also, can we use the descriptions for Carrying A Cake and Delicious Fruit Pies from Food Tropes? I think those ones are more descriptive. The other overlapping tropes (which would presumably get taken off of Food Tropes) seem better here than on Food Tropes imo.

    It's... it's so beautiful.

Joking aside, is there any response to my question about putting the descriptions in note markup? Should we not do that? I don't want to be "that guy" and do it after it's been launched, is all, if it's okay not to.

Showing images in TLP posts screws up the formatting, guys. It's fine to put them in the draft itself, but not in the replies.

As for the descriptions in note markup, I think it would be better to just show them under the trope name. Like in Video Game Physics.

Would Trail Of Bread Crumbs fit in this...? And how about Projectile Toast?
  • March 1, 2017
    WaterBlap
Trails Of Bread Crumbs is figurative. It could be anything, including bread. I don't think it'd fit. I think Projectile Toast fits, though.

^^Either way is fine by me, lol.

In the draft: "I'd like to order a Hawaiian, please. Oh, but no pineapple." as a description for Hold The Unsolicited Ingredient doesn't work, imo. Hawaiian pizzas come with pineapple?

Tried to follow Video Game Physics' formatting, it messes up. Will edit that once launched or someone help.

^ It's weird, yeah. I've tried and I can't seem to get it right. It must be one of the limitations of drafts, like accents. We'll get it right once it's launched.

I think what Water Blap is saying is that Hold The Unsolicited Ingredient is about when people ask for something not to come with something it doesn't come with. So if you said, "I'd like to order a pepperoni, please. Oh, but no pineapple." or "I'd like to order a Hawaiian, please. Oh, but no broccoli." or "I'd like to order a margherita, please. Oh, but no ghost peppers." that would be the trope. Requesting something without its defining ingredient might be a whole different trope, but it's not Hold The Unsolicited Ingredient, and it might confuse people to give a nonexample as the description for Hold The Unsolicited Ingredient.

I think "Not for the gluten intolerant" can help with emphasizing the fact this is for literal baking tropes and not metaphorical ones.

Why not just expand this existing index?

Doesn't seem necessary, since Have Your Cake And Trope It Too is already short and could benefit from expanding.
  • March 22, 2017
    alnair20aug93
^ I think that people would think that the index would only be exclusive to cakes. So I though, maybe a more expansive index would also include other baked goods, including pizza. I was also thinking that Have Your Cake And Trope It Too would be a redirect to this index.

And besides, Have Your Cake And Trope It Too sounds too Stock Phrase-y, even though it was created in late 2010.

^ Fair enough, I can see turning it into a redirect work.

Ooh, add Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs. Breakfast cereal is also a baked product. (Not sure if there are any other breakfast cereal-related tropes? If so they also might fit here.)
  • March 23, 2017
    alnair20aug93
^ I Googled "are breakfast cereals baked products?" or relateable to that, and no results, so don't think breakfast cereals count. They may count as ingredients to baked products though (oatmeal raisin cookies, everyone?).
  • March 24, 2017
    WaterBlap
I think it's more convincing that Wikipedia doesn't list it in its "list of baked goods." Also, since you don't cook cereal (or oatmeal, which is "hot cereal") by using "prolonged dry heat," I don't think it particularly qualifies.

And that's the most citation-y I've gotten in forever. There's a lot of information on cereal. Hold on.......... this is actually interesting

I noticed that there's also two index drafts by Night Shade 96 named Sweet Foods Index and Meat of the Index, which is good, but, in my opinion, should be better when it has a little more wit.
