  • The Simpsons: In "Homer's Phobia" Homer is afraid Bart might be gay and when Marge makes some treats, one batch plain vanilla and another strawberry and Bart picks strawberry, Homer takes that as another sign that he's gay.

Some people think all mixed drinks, or at least all the ones that are sweet or fruity in any way, are only for women.
    • The "Girl Drink Drunk" from Kids In The Hall.
    • In an episode of Just Shoot Me, David Spade's character Dennis Finch orders a sea breeze while his (stereotypically manly) brothers and father order boilermakers.

^ Spade's character is Dennis Finch.
    • J.D.'s drink of choice in the later seasons of Scrubs is an appletini, "light on the tini".

To add onto Nimmer's entry, the Fruity Girl Drinks in Kingdom Of Loathing fall under that category as well.

Wasn't that the reason why Ranma from Ranma 1/2 takes girl mode to eat the hell out of the ice cream parlor? Wait it might overlap with another trope.

    • WKRP In Cincinnati: Herb, Andy & Mr. Carlson are at a hotel in Dayton to meet with a potential client. They've hired a bartender for the evening, who asks if they want some drinks before the client shows up. Herb asks if he makes "those drinks with the little umbrellas."
      Not for guys I don't.
He is, however, willing to make "something with fruit in it" for Mr. Carlson.

Dante in the Devil May Cry Anime has strawberry milkshakes.

    • Perhaps subverted with the pink Starburst candy. In fact, the ad campaign at one point was "making pink acceptable for guys."

Never even heard of this. Is it an American thing? I suppose it might be an illogical extension of the whole pink thing, esp strawberry, raspberry, cherry.....the yoghurts tend to be a more unambiguous girly pink. (stawberry ice cream s a deep pinky-red. Can you get lavender ice cream in the USA?) despite lavender's association with gayness, lavender ice cream is very popular with both sexes in Norfolk, England - I've seen big muscly builders and rugby players select it. If there is a flavour associated with being female, it may be mint. Although this associates with older women, OAP's.

British used to call Frenchmen effeminate because of their preference for complex dishes with lots of sweets as opposed to "the roast beef of Old England."

I don't think there's any American prejudice against men eating strawberry ice cream (or really any ice cream related gender prejudices- weird phrase).

AgProv -- I'm in Flyover Country USA, and the closest I've seen to lavender ice cream is when one of the places that mixes "extras" into the ice cream for you has fresh blueberries available. It might be available on the coasts, though.

I would suggest changing this to "Unmanly Food/Drink", unless we've got something close to that on the wiki already. There's three alcoholic beverage examples already, and we can toss in the "real men don't eat quiche" from a few years back.

Patton Oswald said he asked for a salad at one place, and he was told he should wear a skirt if he wants that.

I don't know if it's relevant here but a book I once had called The Happy Hookup: A Single Girl's Guide to Casual Sex said that one of the ways you can tell a guy is secretly gay is if he orders a drink that is is fruity, pinky, creamy or maybe some other things too. It also gives a "testimonial" of a woman who first liked what she saw of her blind date but ditched him when he ordered a Midori Sour. She then says that when he said that she knew he wouldn't be able to satisfy her in bed. Yes, the book thought that was smart of her. Typing this makes me so glad I got rid of the book.

....This is a thing? There is a bias against strawberry? Where?

Dunno though. For ice cream, what's the "manly" flavor anyway?

For drinks though, I can see some "manly" drinks and "unmanly" ones. Maybe certain kinds of food as well.
