This may get tanked because of ^, but how do you not already have "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" by Genesis in there?

...or "Tonight" from West Side Story?

That's an original way to shoehorn Stock Phrases back into the TV Tropes...

How about songs that feature the word "chairs" in the lyrics.

Or songs using the word "the" repeatedly? ;)

I suggest making a list of songs whose lyrics contain punctuation. It only counts if the singer has published official lyrics with punctuation in them.

There's no need to be unkind.

    How is this a Trope?

Maybe it should be called something like Special Night Song: if these songs use the word "tonight" then they're obviously referring to a specific night, e.g. that West Side Story song.

Waiting For Tonight by Jennifer Lopez, Tonight Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins.

If you don't like the idea then say so, I don't understand what all the sarcasm is for.

LOAD: How is it not a trope?

Basically it needs to explain why the "tonight" is special. Do they not know yet why it's special? Is it because that night will be Their First Time? Is it in anticipation? Explain.

I don't think it's a trope because, other than sharing one word, I'm not sure if these songs have anything in common. Is it a type of song you're thinking about? If so, what?

intuitively i kind of understand what this trope is spposed to be, even if I can't explain it. Something like I've Got a Feeling by Black Eyed Peas would count.

Maybe make it something about songs that are about making the most of tonight, or having a good feeling about tonight, or getting ready to do something big or life changing.

Make it like, in order to add emphasis to a song the song writer will talk about a special feeling that they have. But not only is the feeling special, its also urgent. It's just about to break. You're almost at the tipping point. you feel the anticipation for Tonight.

And for some reason its almost always Tonight, not this afternoon or tomorrow morning, or within 5 to seven business days.

Tonight carries many more anticipatory feelings because its soon but not immediate. Its a feeling that gets to build momentum all day.

In a darker song tonight brings feelings of grimness and well darkness. Tonight is also good for lighthearted songs because that's when the work day is over so its a good word for an after work radio hit when you drive home. It's also most parties happen, so you can easily tie in tonight to clubbing.
