Is there an existing trope for a high-stakes plot that could have been avoided if the hero had just stayed home? The most prominent example I can think of at the moment is the first Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie: the villains had a one week deadline to find some special artifact and use it, or their master plan would be delayed another 5,000 years. Lara has a dream that leads her to the artifact conveniently sitting in her own basement. She then unknowingly reveals it to the villains, who steal it and kick off the plot. If Lara had just ignored the dream or not revealed the clock to outsiders, the villains' plan would have failed. I have seen similar plots before though none come to mind at the moment. Is this an existing trope? We Could Have Avoided All This is more about the villain's actions, and Nice Job Breaking It, Hero doesn't seem to fit either. None of the tropes under Call to Adventure seem to apply either.
