Can't think of many examples but Seen It A Million Times. A group is in some sort of Virtual-Reality simulation, treating it as a matter of life and death, completely forgetting that its just a game and they can just turn it off.

  • A variation occurs in Deep Space 9, in the episode "Move Along Home" where aliens have abducted the crew and placed them in a holodeck simulation of a board game. Some crewmembers seem to die, but in the end it turns out they're okay, because it was just a game.
