Third Is 3D

A common trend in the times of the first Video Game 3D Leaps, was to have two 2D games, and make the third a 3D one, with titles such as:
  • Ultra Super Death Gorefest Chainsawer
    • Later called "Ultra Super Death Gorefest Chainsawer 1" to differentiate it from the second game
  • Ultra Super Death Gorefest Chainsawer 2
  • Ultra Super Death Gorefest Chainsawer 3D

Worms did this as well, though I don't remember if it was after the second game that it went 3D.

I don't think Worms counts, as there were some more titles (I think armageddon was released before 3D)

Clayfighter, but that had the subtitle 63 1/3. 'Cause it was on the Nintendo64 and they were being original. So Yeah.

The third Amityville Horror film was also a 3D example.

Grand Theft Auto. The first two used a 2D top-down view.

@Taeraresh:Worms actually went 3D after the fourth installment named Worms World Party. Between WWP and the second game, there was also Armageddon.

    Also, Wolfenstein 3 D.

Lemmings, although various unnumbered games existed before Lemmings 3D.

The official title of Doom 3 is actually ''Doom³'', the "cubed" is interpreted by some as meaning "3D".

(The earlier Doom games where not actually 3D, by the way. The engine created a flat 2D plane and only threw in some effects to give the appearance of 3D-one such shortcoming was that you could not walk over or under any floating monster. Programmers who work with Doom's released source code still, to this day, complain about how ridiculous and hacky the game's sense of a third dimension is.)

@Rasalas: GTA 3 wasn't the third GTA game. Might count.
