|
|
There are certain moments that feel so right, where something happens that feels so good and so appropriate in the story, that you can't help but be moved by it. These are those moments.
You can vote yea or nay for every individual example. If your favorite scene isn't already here, you can add a new example at the bottom.
HERE THERE BE SPOILERS!
x 9 (yeas:10 nays:1) The season 6 finale. Xander stopping Willow.
First day of kindergarden, you cried because you broke the yellow crayon and were too afraid to tell anyone. You've a long way since that; ending the world, not a terrific idea, but the thing is, yeah, I love you. So if you're going to kill the world, start with me. I've earnt that.
x 7 (yeas:10 nays:3) At prom Jonathan giving Buffy the "Class Protector" award.
We're not good friends. Most of us never took the time to get to know you. But don't think that means we didn't notice you. It's no secret that Sunnydale isn't exactly like other school's. A lot of weird stuff happens here. But whenever there was a problem or something creepy happened, you seemed to show up and stop it. Most of the people here have been saved by you, or helped by you at one time or another. We're proud to say that the Class of '99 has the lowest mortality rate of any graduating class in Sunnydale history... And we know at least part of that is because of you. So the senior class offers its thanks, and gives you, uh, this. It's from all of us, and it has written here, 'Buffy Summers, Class Protector.'"
x 6 (yeas:7 nays:1) Tara's speech to Willow at the end of "Entropy."
Things fall apart. They fall apart so hard. And you're not sure if you can ever put them back together again. You can't just have coffee and expect... There's just so much to work through. Trust has to be built again on both sides. You have to learn if we're even the same people we were. If you can fit in each others' lives. It's a long and important process, and can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?
x 6 (yeas:7 nays:1) "Family":
Tara's Dad: You people have no right to interfere with Tara's affairs. We are her blood kin. Who the hell are you?
Buffy: We're family.
x 5 (yeas:5 nays:0) The end of "Intervention"
Spike: Buffy... the other, not so pleasant Buffy... if anything happened to Dawn, it'd destroy her. And I couldn't live, her being in that much pain. Let Glory kill me first. Nearly bloody did.
Buffy-as-Buffy Bot: [leans in, and kisses him]
Spike: [realizing] So what happened to my robot, then?
Buffy: The robot was obscene and disgusting. It wasn't even real. What you did for me and Dawn... that was real. I won't forget it.
x 5 (yeas:6 nays:1) Willow writing "Hi, Giles" in Hush.
x 4 (yeas:4 nays:0) The speech Spike gives Buffy in "Touched", to reaffirm her strength.
You listen to me. I’ve been alive a bit longer than you and dead a lot longer than that. I’ve seen things you couldn’t imagine and done things I’d prefer you didn’t. I don’t exactly have a reputation for being a thinker. I follow my blood, which doesn’t exactly rush in the direction of my brain, so I make a lot of mistakes. A lot of wrong bloody calls. A hundred plus years and there’s only one thing I’ve ever been sure of. You. Hey, look at me. I’m not asking you for anything. When I say I love you, it’s not because I want you, or because I can’t have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I’ve seen your kindness and your strength. I’ve seen the best and the worst of you and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You are a hell of a woman. You’re the one, Buffy.
x 4 (yeas:4 nays:0) "Never Leave Me"
Buffy: You're not alive, because of hate, or pain. You're alive because I saw you change. I saw your penance.
Spike: Window-dressing!
Buffy: Be easier if it were just an act, wouldn't it? But it's not. You faced the monster inside you, and you fought back. You risked everything to be a better man. And you can be. You are. You may not see it? But I do. I do. I believe in you, Spike.
x 3 (yeas:3 nays:0) The end of "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered."
Cordelia: I do what I wanna do. And I wear what I wanna wear. And I'll date whoever the hell I wanna date! ...No matter how lame he is. [she walks off with Xander]
x 3 (yeas:4 nays:1) Anya and Andrew's whole scene while getting medicinal supplies in End of Days. It's just full of genuine sentiment delivered in the brilliant off-beat way which fits their characters, and features one of the most affecting Patrick Stewart Speech es in Buffyverse history:
Anya: Last time there was an apocalypse, I skedaddled. I was kind of new to being human then. But now, I've been around them a lot more, and I've realised how... screwed up they all are. I mean, really, really screwed up in a monumental fashion.
Andrew: Oh.
Anya: And they have no purpose that unites them, so they just drift around, blundering through life until they die. Which they know is coming and yet every single one of them is surprised when it happens to them. They're incapable of thinking about what they want beyond the moment. They kill each other, which is clearly insane, and yet, here's the thing. When it's something that really matters, they fight. I mean, they're lame morons for fighting, but they do. They never... They never quit. And so I guess I will keep fighting, too.
Andrew: That was kind of beautiful. Oh my god, you... you love humans.
Anya: I do not.
Andrew: Yes you do. You lurrrrrve them.
Anya: Shut up! I don't love them and if you tell anyone I'll kill you.
Andrew: I won't tell. It's not like I'll get a chance to anyway.
Anya: I don't know, you might make it through.
Andrew: No, you might make it through. You know how to handle a weapon, and-and you've been in this world for, like, a thousand years. I'm not so... I don't think I'll be okay. I'm cool with it. I think I'd like to finish out as one of those lame humans trying to do what's right.
Anya: Yeah. [pause]
Andrew: So, wheelchair fight?
[shot of them having a wheelchair fight]
x 2 (yeas:3 nays:1) Willow and Oz in "Graduation Day":
Willow: Could you just act like you care for a moment, please?
Oz: Would it help if I panic?
Willow: Yes! It'd be swell! Panic is something people can share in times of crisis, and everything's really scary right now, y'know? And, there are all these things you're meant to do after high school, and I was really looking forward to doing them, but now we might all just die and you're being sarcastic detachment guy-
[he kisses her]
Willow: What are you doing?
Oz: Panicking.
x 2 (yeas:3 nays:1) "What's My Line, Part 1"
Buffy: Don't be a baby. I'm not gonna hurt you.
Angel: [in vamp face] No, it's just... You shouldn't have to touch me... like this.
Buffy: Oh. [pause] ...I didn't even notice.
x 2 (yeas:2 nays:0) In "Seeing Red" when Dawn sees Willow and Tara are back together. Squeeing ensues
"I'll go watch TV. Downstairs. REEEALLY loud! I love you guys!"
x 2 (yeas:2 nays:0) Xander buying Cordelia a press for the Prom.
x 2 (yeas:2 nays:0) Xander's speech in season seven to Dawn, when he tells her, roughly, how much harder it is not to have superpowers, and how amazing she is for finally letting go of her immense bratitude.
I saw you last night. And I see you working here today. You're not special. You're extraordinary.
x 2 (yeas:2 nays:0) Willow talking with Tara after restoring her sanity in the season 5 finale.
Tara: I... I got so lost...
Willow: I found you. [hugs and kisses her] I will always find you.
[they hug and cry]
x 1 (yeas:1 nays:0) The Mayor's breakdown on finding Faith in a coma might be just the weirdest CMOH ever - true, he's trying to suffocate our heroine to death, but how many villains have you seen with genuine love and grief like that?
x 1 (yeas:1 nays:0) It was funny too, but everyone hugging Willow in Doppelgangerland made this troper go "Aww". Especially after Buffy and Xander pull away, and Willow looks to Giles for an logical explanation - instead he leaps forward and hugs her too.
x 1 (yeas:1 nays:0) In season 3's "Choices", where Buffy is depressed that she's forced to stay in Sunnydale. Willow ends up approaching her and starts talking to her. During the conversation, Willow casually reveals that she's going to University of Sunnydale and shows Buffy that she's still going to have her best friend by her side. Cue tackle/hug from Buffy.
x 1 (yeas:1 nays:0) Buffy helping Willow heal by sharing her strength in Same Time, Same Place.
x 1 (yeas:1 nays:0) Beauty and the Beasts. One word: "Buffy?"
x 1 (yeas:1 nays:0) The "extra flamey" candle scene at the end of the season four episode New Moon Rising.
