* AbandonShipping: Tends to happen to a portion of any popular Jade ship after she crosses the MoralEventHorizon into outwardly harmful behavior towards the other half, but more of a BrokenBase for Beck/Jade shippers after Beck's actions in "Tori Goes Platinum".
* AccidentalAesop: In "One Thousand Berry Balls": if any job is too hard or {{Squick}}-y, just sweep it under a rug (or put it up your hat) and you're still justified in reaping the reward.
** Alternatively, it can be interpreted as "Employers have an obligation to set up workers for success". Tori genuinely was putting the work in but the costume and [[InformedFlaw allegedly unappetizing food]] dissuaded customers from taking the berry balls even though they were free.
* AccidentalInnuendo
-->'''Jade:''' "Sometimes it's fun... Like, when I'm in the mood to do it."\
'''Beck:''' Which she was yesterday."\
'''Jade:''' "I kinda was."
** From "Freak the Freak out"
-->I scream your name!\
it always stays the same.
-->I scream and shout!
** This line from "Tori Gets Stuck".
-->'''Jade:''' (to Tori) "I'll answer that right after you stick your face in those bush daisies.''
* ActorShipping: There's quite a bit of actor shipping in the fandom:
** People like pairing up Music/VictoriaJustice[=/=]Leon Thomas ([[PortmanteauCoupleName Veon]]), Victoria Justice[=/=]Creator/AvanJogia ([[PortmanteauCoupleName Vavan]]), Victoria Justice[=/=]Matthew Bennett (Vatt), Creator/ElizabethGillies[=/=]Leon Thomas (Eleon), Liz Gillies[=/=]Avan Jogia (Elavan), Liz Gillies[=/=]Matthew Bennett (Elatt), Music/ArianaGrande[=/=]Leon Thomas (Arieon), Ariana Grande[=/=]Avan Jogia (Aviana), Ariana Grande[=/=]Matthew Bennett (Mariana), Creator/DaniellaMonet[=/=]Leon Thomas (Laniella), Daniella Monet[=/=]Avan Jogia (Davan) and Daniella Monet[=/=]Matthew Bennett (Maniella).
** On the lesbian side of things, we have Victoria Justice[=/=]Liz Gillies (Elitoria), Victoria Justice[=/=]Ariana Grande (Variana), Liz Gillies[=/=]Ariana Grande (Eliana),Victoria Justice[=/=]Daniella Monet (Viniella), Liz Gillies[=/=]Daniella Monet (Eliella), and Music/ArianaGrande[=/=]Creator/DaniellaMonet ([[PortmanteauCoupleName Dariana]]). On the HoYay side of things, we have Leon Thomas[=/=]Avan Jogia (Aveon), Leon Thomas[=/=]Matthew Bennett (Latt), and Avan Jogia[=/=]Matthew Bennett (Avatt).
* {{Adorkable}}:
** Tori might be pretty and talented, but she is still a naive and dorky {{Everygirl}} who serves an AudienceSurrogate for the show, and she can also be overly dramatic, especially during her more neurotic and insecure moments.
** Robbie is a socially awkward, meek, and clumsy nerd who always carries a puppet with him and considers him his best friend. Despite his quirks and awkwardness, he's still lovable and means well.
** Cat is a sweet, ditzy, childish, talkative, petite red-haired girl who is always so happy, loves everyone, and is lost in her own little world.
** Jade tries to hide it, but sometimes she just can’t help herself, especially when Beck gives her compliments and definitely on her Slap videos. She also loves bunnies and still believes in Santa Claus.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** ''The Birthweek Song:'' Was Trina really being a shallow UngratefulBitch for not accepting Tori's performance of her original song as a present, or was her upset fueled by said present putting all the attention on Tori when Trina was the one being celebrated?
*** Trina in general. Is she really a [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]], [[{{Jerkass}} jerky]] SmallNameBigEgo who's so deluded as to think she's the single most talented individual at Hollywood Arts, or is it all a [[HiddenHeartOfGold cover-up]] brought on by the cruel treatment she receives from so many people? [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex Does she belittle others so they can't do it to her first?]] Is she so dedicated to making it seem real that [[LostInCharacter it's hard for her to snap out of it]]? Has she received a bad example from watching someone who's both successful and a complete bastard?
** Jade. Is she the cruel AlphaBitch she acts like and is simply cruel and harsh, or is it all just a cover-up to hide her insecurities?
** Does Robbie just joke around with Rex's snarky remarks, or does he use him to vent his hatred for [[WithFriendsLikeThese his friends who bully him]] [[HeroicSelfDeprecation as well as]] [[TheEeyore his own self-loathing]]? In ''Slap Fight,'' Robbie says he hates himself for the way he acted, only for Cat to point out that he's hated himself for years. Or is Robbie not in control of Rex's words and actions, i.e. Is Rex an alternate personality? In later episodes, Rex seems to be DemotedToExtra, making fewer appearances. Does this mean Robbie is becoming more confident and isn't relying on Rex as a crutch as much? Or is this a sign that his mental health is improving and his two personalities are starting to merge back into one?
** Is Ponnie psychotic or [[JerkAssWoobie did she genuinely believe that she was kicked out of school in favor of Tori]]? [[TakeAThirdOption Why not both?]]
** Jade and Tori's ''interesting'' relationship, particularly how Jade sees it, is made for this trope...
*** Is Jade's continued antagonism towards Tori based on a long-standing grudge about the TakeThat (stage) kiss Tori shared with Beck in the pilot, or is she more concerned that Beck may be becoming more interested in her despite Tori doing everything possible to win Jade's friendship (so much so as to earnestly get Jade and Beck back together after their (brief) breakup) and just takes it out on Tori because it's easier than confronting him? Does she just hate Tori because she finds her undeserving of a place in Hollywood Arts due to how easy she got in compared to everyone else, and how un-GenreSavvy she is to begin with? Does she simply feel intimidated with Tori emerging as a formidable rival at Hollywood Arts and aim to take her down for good (or just make Tori so fed up with her that she leaves)? Does she find Tori's constant TurnTheOtherCheek and olive-branch gestures so bizarre and confusing because she's so rarely been shown compassion by others in her life? Is it simply her sadomasochist tendencies as she just generally takes pleasure in trying to provoke Tori into being cruel to her? Is she just struggling to deal with some [[{{UST}} complicated]], [[{{Tsundere}} often erratic]] feelings for Tori, and the tension is them both trying to come to terms with that? Obviously, there are many signs they're just as confused about their relationship as others.
** It's implied that Jade's parents are divorced. Given her strained relationship with her parents and her references to an unhappy childhood, it's likely this was an unpleasant experience for her. If that's the case, this could be why Jade's relationships are so troubled and (depending on the circumstances of the divorce) why she's always worried that Beck will cheat on her. In "The Worst Couple", she does mention that she thinks it's normal for couples to argue as much as she and Beck do. Is this normal to her because she watched her parents fighting throughout her childhood?
* AlternativeJokeInterpretation: Tori claiming Robbie had a "bat mitzvah" despite being a boy: Cultural ignorance or a subtle potshot at Robbie's masculinity.
* ArcFatigue: Jade and Tori's rivalry, to some, especially after ''Tori Goes Platinum''. For many it's a sign of the show's terminal AesopAmnesia and StatusQuoIsGod problem; though fans who latch on to the above-mentioned fan theory say there's a good reason [[UnresolvedSexualTension there's always going to be a sense of animosity between them]]. Others believe that Jade does see Tori as a friend, she's just unwilling to admit it. Aside from "Brain Squeezers" there's a noticeably lower amount of animosity between them with several instances of Jade hanging out with Tori without the least bit of animosity or pulling far more harmless PokeThePoodle actions.
* AssPull: The baby test in "The Bad Roommate" just felt like a cheap way to maintain StatusQuoIsGod, which was especially grating considering it was one of the last episodes of the series and Tori had already started finding success in her field after being signed by Mason Thornesmith.
* AwesomeEgo: Some wish they had Trina's confidence.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** In many ways following [[Series/ICarly Sam Puckett]]'s lead, Jade is another in the long line of Schneider's "Special Mean Girls" who have split the fanbase between those that absolutely love or absolutely despise her, with little in between. Supporters tend to praise her [[BrutalHonesty refusal to sugarcoat her opinions]] and [[DeadpanSnarker having a lot of the best lines on the show]], and how she's shown more sympathetically as a troubled teenage girl with HiddenDepths and moments of vulnerability. Those that can't stand her find her a needlessly hostile and mean-spirited JerkAss to those closest to her [[UngratefulBastard even when people are trying to help her]], and often only shows compassion [[ItsAllAboutMe to get something in return]]; she also tends to be a huge KarmaHoudini. Her becoming much more outwardly violent and malicious in Season 2 and still somewhat in season 3 only deepened the divide.
** Tori again has pretty extreme reactions about her; some find her one of the most well-rounded and engaging of Schneider's protagonists, and to others, she's a completely irredeemable BitchInSheepsClothing.
** Rex is either one of the best things about the show/Robbie and has the greatest lines or is the one thing you would change about the show in a heartbeat and find everything about him irritating.
** Beck: Some people like him for being the OnlySaneMan and makes a good romantic contrast with Jade (as well as playing her necessary MoralityPet), while others see him as just a [[SatelliteLoveInterest bland pretty-boy]] who they tried to make as some sort of a combination of the NiceGuy and Rebellious-Suburban-Kid type but wasn't really convincing as either, and whose only main role in the ensemble was token ShipTease appeal. That his actor hinted at feeling frustrated by his role (or lack thereof) over the course of the show only furthers the more divisive reaction to his character.
** Trina. Some fans don't like her for being an annoying BrattyTeenageDaughter and [[BadBadActing untalented]] in an attempt to be funny, but there are plenty of people who enjoy her antics and her AwesomeEgo (though they do agree that she can get pretty obnoxious).
** Sinjin, for all his awkwardness and cringeworthy behavior, will either be hated or beloved for it.
** Cat was pretty universally adored in Season 1, but the major changes to her character made her pretty divisive from then on, as every other viewer either still found her a hilarious and endearing oddball or a TooDumbToLive caricature whose character depths were completely forgotten for the expense of cheap laughs.
** Sikowitz surprisingly got more divisive in hindsight, as some think he proved to be a genuinely great teacher in challenging the students to be their most authentic, confident selves and generally loved the comic relief he provided; others thought some of his behavior could come across as slightly creepy at times and crossed a few serious red lines. Hosting an unofficial sleepover for the students at his own house and forcing Jade and Tori to go on a date are the more commonly cited examples of his more questionable moments.
** Burf, either an amusing addition as Sinjin's TheSilentBob (lover?) that brought some new comedy to the show, or a completely pointless late arrival that sucked up screen time from an already overcrowded cast.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** Mr. Sikowitz entering class through the window, and the scene accompanying it.
** In "Tori Tortures Teacher", when Robbie is playing hide and seek with Rex. And ''finds him in Tori's bag''.
** Tori spotting her neighbor, Mr. Busey, played by a Gary Busey look-alike, lurking around on the patio in "A Christmas Tori." The scene changes right after that.
** Andre's "[[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome Run Dance]]" in the [[BreakfastClub "The Breakfast Bunch"]] episode. It ends with a parrot exploding from the awesomeness of his dance.
*** The end with the panda and the balloon...
** Sikowicz taking the {{Alpha Bitch}}es' song and owning it at the end of "Freak the Freak Out". Well, compared to ''them'' he owned it.
%%* BizarroEpisode:
%%** "April Fools Blank"
%%** "The Breakfast Bunch", especially for those who haven't seen the [[Film/TheBreakfastClub film it's based on]].
* BrokenBase:
** The show's cancellation — WordOfGod himself makes many claims regarding it. These include that it was not canceled for Sam and Cat so much as it was going to end anyway due to closing in on a 60-episode run (which was around the likes of his [[Series/DrakeAndJosh two]] [[Series/{{Zoey 101}} other]] shows aside from ''iCarly'' had). Were these claims nothing more than convenient lies to appease the fans? Was he getting tired of doing the show, or is the claim that he and everyone else wanted to continue it true? Or was the show ended thanks to the angry anti-fans who for the longest time couldn't stand when he would hold the show in such high favor and seemingly provide total disregard to ''iCarly'' itself?
*** The truth was revealed by the person who ran the (also canceled at the same time) show ''Series/HowToRock''. As that person didn't need to protect ''Series/SamAndCat'', he made it perfectly clear that all the shows canceled were canceled because of ''Sam & Cat'' and the Gibby spin-off that never got picked up.
** "Prom Wrecker", mainly for who was to blame for the whole conflict. AlternativeCharacterInterpretation comes into play here, too: Was Tori a bitch for not trying to reschedule the prom, which ended up being on the same night as Jade's play, or was this a little payback for Jade's bitchiness and a possible TakeThat to Jade's MoralEventHorizon of the previous episode? Was Jade's revenge justified because Tori did not reschedule? Was it Sikowitz's fault for not warning Tori about the schedule conflict? Did anybody cross the MoralEventHorizon here, and was the episode itself a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome?
** "Tori and Jade's Playdate". Either a fantastic and daring episode that managed to take meaningful baby steps in normalizing how same-sex relationships are perceived and allowed the Jade/Tori pair (however one might see it) to team up and give an excellent girl-power message, possibly just mis-interpreted by intense ShippingGoggles, or a controversial attempt to give [[PanderingToTheBase a blatant bone-toss to the Jori shippers]] without canonizing it (leading to some accusations of queer-baiting) and filled with Sikowitz crossing some possible ethical and moral red flags by "forcing" Jade and Tori to go on a date. Was the whole thing a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome or just an overwrought affair full of problematic elements?
** A bit in the Jade/Beck ship after "Tori Goes Platinum", mainly since [[spoiler: it was Beck getting rejected by Tori and not the other way around]]. Some felt it paved the way for him to finally get over his longstanding lingering crush on Tori and realizing what he truly loved about Jade, while others felt it was the exact opposite with Beck's EntitledToHaveYou as his main reason for the reunion was he got bored otherwise and never had a true rival for Jade's affections, and Jade in turn having a major WhyWouldAnyoneTakeHimBack moment as she was essentially the consolation prize as they once again became the OfficialCouple despite his feelings for Tori remaining unresolved and that they would likely have been a couple instead if she ending up returning his kiss. Was it a SugarWiki/CrowningMomentOfAwesome as a culmination of their character's positive development, or simply them slinking back into their old shells without addressing the problems that led to their breakup in the first place- and a more general sign of the show refusing to break beyond the established Status Quo?
** "Brain Squeezers" is a major love it or hate it affair, either hated for being a completely pointless episode that's just an excuse to heap gratuitous violence all over the entire cast... or loved as an over-the-top sendup of Nick's game shows of the past and catnip for critics of the show's perceived {{Flanderization}} who saw the main cast as nothing but [[SpoiledBrat spoiled brats]] who never suffer lasting consequences for their actions- that them getting mercilessly humiliated without being able to do anything about it as a particularly brutal CatharsisFactor.
** Despite the rabid shipping culture, Beck and Jade's relationship was the only actual canon couple between the main cast of the entire show and, in a rarity for a Schneider sitcom, started before the show's timeline began. While quite beloved for the most part, at least before [[spoiler: their second official split]] there were still some questions whether or not it was a positive case of how an OppositesAttract pairing can work in a realistic way or if it glorified some toxic and unhealthy aspects of their relationship instead (Jade's possessive and often condescending ClingyJealousGirl attitude to Beck's passive-aggressive trolling of her insecurities) under the guise that a relationship is too easy or boring otherwise. Most agree it was never outwardly abusive and didn't exploit the DoubleStandard as shamelessly as the Sam/Freddie dynamic, but there were questions if it would be anywhere near as popular if their genders were reversed.
* CharacterPerceptionEvolution: While it wasn't universal, there were some pretty vocal anti-Tori sentiments during the show's run, mainly for being the SitcomArchNemesis of fan-favorite Jade as well as her tendency to kiss other girl's boyfriends, but also general CharacterShilling and constantly being at the center of every plot as those who wish one of her more mercurial co-stars got time to shine as a main character for once. These weren't dissimilar to critiscms of past Schneider heroines, but the online hate got so vicious at times that even Tori's actress got a lot of her character's hate projected onto her- which gave some notion to the idea that some of the backlash was felt to be more about rumors of backstage fighting, though that was purely speculative. In retrospect, though, more have come around to enjoying her character, feeling that some of the more selfish and jealous traits even as she generally tried to make everyone happy and do the right thing in most given situations made her feel like a more believably flawed heroine than some of Schneider's past main girls (notably [[Series/Zoey101 Zoey]] and [[Series/ICarly Carly]]), as well as certainly being aided by her character's growth as a beloved LGBT icon after Jade and Tori's Playdate (even with the character's canonically ambiguous sexuality) and liking her subversion of the more boy-and-image-obsessed characterization of most sitcom heroines of the time.
* CharacterRerailment: Jade generally became the more level-headed Goth Girl with a mean streak that she was early on after ''Tori Goes Platinum'', mainly averting the more over-the-top antagonist she was (though there were still a couple of exceptions, because DependingOnTheWriter the [[StatusQuoIsGod status quo was still important ]]) from much of season 2 to the first half of season 3.
* CoveredUp: The most iconic song from the show is arguably "Take a Hint", which is sung by Music/VictoriaJustice and Creator/ElizabethGillies. However, most fans aren't aware that it is a cover of a song originally by Music/MaghanKabir. The cover is far better known than the original, likely due to the target demographic being too young to know the original (which was {{bowdlerize}}d for the show).
%%* CrackPairing:
%%** Liz Gillies has jokingly said that she ships Jade/Rex.
%%** There is some evidence of a Tori/Rex ship as well.
%%** Tori/Sikowitz.
%%** Tori/Jade's Boobs.
* CriticalBacklash: The "Tori hate" became so grand that it resulted in many Tori fans and even fans who never truly loved her, but never truly hated her either, to make statements and videos about Tori not being as awful as her haters make her out to be as she did have several humbling moments directed towards her as well as some HiddenDepths.
* CrossoverShip:
** [[Series/{{iCarly}} Freddie]]/Cat. Sadly, they don't interact in the crossover.
** Cat and Gibby had a bit of interaction and they seemed into each other. [[http://popsurfer.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/icarly-gibby-cat-wedding-copy.jpg This]] doesn't hurt either.
*** Now that Sam and Cat had their own show, this ship was inevitable.
* DemographicallyInappropriateHumor: For many this is the Schneider show that cracked the Radar in what was appropriate for a kid's sitcom, with all the innuendo and BlackComedy at its most blatant even by his standards. Cat's fake northstar, Beck openly getting hit on by adult women, a Shake Weight parody, so many jokes revolving around the girl's bras and cleavage and, well, pretty much Jade in her entirety is considered the biggest offenders.
%%* DesignatedHero:
%%** Tori. Sometimes, she does some very morally questionable things, such as kissing someone else's boyfriend or singing someone's song despite not helping them in it.
%%** Also, Jade sometimes gets this when she's portrayed as a hero.
* DesignatedMonkey: The writers intended for Trina to be this, making her so obnoxious that the viewers would think whatever bad thing happened to her is funny, but it backfired due to the sheer amount of hatred she received from others. One instance often brought up is a subplot in "Freak the Freak Out" where her parents leave Tori in charge of her the same weekend she has her wisdom teeth removed, [[TheUnfavorite implying they don't like her]], and over the course of the weekend while already in a lot of pain, Trina is subjected to being dragged feet first up the stairs while hitting her head, being nearly drowned, tied up and gagged.
* DieForOurShip: Perhaps the best explanation of why Tori and Beck get so much hate, considering Jade is often the center of shipping culture and those two are often the biggest obstacles to any rival ship.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Jade big time, likely a major case of EvenTheGirlsWantHer. In canon Jade is a [[TheBully bully]] who often torments those around her, especially Tori whose rivalry dates from the pilot. However, there is a large set of fans who still ship her with Tori, despite the often-lopsided mean streak she shows her. They typically try to downplay Jade's behavior, even the more violent outbursts, or justify it with some cop-out, usually the FreudianExcuse. Some fans who dislike Tori will [[RonTheDeathEater reinterpret]] her more mildly self-centered moments as her being a complete AlphaBitch who deserves Jade's treatment, and often other characters who are on the recieving end on some of Jade's creuler moments (esp Robbie and Cat) will see their mildly {{Jerkass}} traits, whether related to the moment or not, blown up to make Jade seem more justified in her actions.
* DryDocking: Jade West has a legion of fangirls who refuse to ship her with anyone, canon or fanon, mainly so they can imagine/write fanfiction that pairs her with themselves. This happens with a lot of the other characters (mainly Cat, Tori, or Beck) as well, but Jade is the main target of this non-shipping. Her being played by the beautiful Creator/ElizabethGillies certainly helps.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** André's grandma is really ''popular'' among the fans for being one of the funniest characters.
** The guy who yelled, "Yeah, Louise!" even before Tori started to sing in the Special Episode "Freak the Freak out", who was considered to be by fans the only "real one" from the audience.
* EscapistCharacter:
** Jade, big time, as despite being pervasively rude and unpleasant has an endlessly adoring group of friends (including a nemesis that often bends over backward to see her happy) and is dating the local heartthrob, as well as being exceptionally talented in any artistic expression she tries.
** Tori can count too, as she goes from meek bookworm to art-school mega-star overnight and instantly becomes the most popular girl in school.
* FandomSpecificPlot:
** Supernatural AU fics are very popular in the fandom, particularly Jade/Tori ones. Most of the time, Tori will be a werewolf or Jade will be a vampire. Almost all of these stories will feature the other as a human who learns their secret, leading them eventually to become a supernatural creature as well.
** A lot of [[OneTrueThreesome Cat/Tori/Jade]] fics will have the three living together after or during college, with them starting the polyamorous relationship with them living together. Usually, these fics will have Jade make the first move.
** There exist a large number of fics that feature the gang crossing over into horror film franchises, with the gang having to survive against the likes of [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]], [[Franchise/{{Halloween}} Michael Myers]], or [[Film/{{Scream}} Ghostface]] with usually only Jade, Tori, and Cat surviving.
** There are several Jade/Tori fics featuring them knowing each other before Tori joins Hollywood Arts, either from previously dating or just as former friends. These fics will often be about Jade and Tori trying to hide this fact from their friends while also falling in love with each other.
* FanficFuel: This show has it in spades, mainly with the character's backstories, home lives and social interactions outside of Hollywood Arts being so open-ended, and obviously the taboo-for-nickelodeon HoYay and skimming over darker teenage themes have made it really popular for fanfic writers to embellish the personal stories of its characters.
* FanonDiscontinuity: The widely reviled "Tori Gets Stuck", mainly for its over-the-top {{Squick}} and violence as well as the huge character exaggerations, with some seeing it as the start of Jade's major flanderization from a more grounded mean girl with HiddenDepths to a complete psycho whenever the plot called for it. Nearly all fans, even the most rabid Jade defenders, pretend like it never existed.
* {{Fanon}}:
** Jade's middle name is August.
** Jade and Beck's full names are Jadelyn and Beckett.
** Jade {{Self Harm}}s.
** Jade, Tori, and Cat are at least bi/pansexual.
** Jade has AbusiveParents or [[ParentalNeglect neglectful parents]].
** Most fans agree that Sikowitz ships Jade and Tori together.
** A lot of fans like to hold up "Robbie Sells Rex" as the last episode (in reality the last aired episode was "Victori-Yes" and the last produced one was "The Slap Fight"), with those finding the flour-bomber subplot the perfect grim punchline to the show's notorious lack of closure and NoEnding.
* FanPreferredCouple: Despite Jade being in a relationship with Beck, most fans prefer to pair her with her female co-stars. For most of season 1, Jade was paired with Cat due to their unlikely friendship and their actresses' real-life friendship. However, that pairing, along with every other, was soon overshadowed by the one between Jade and Tori, due to the two's tense rivalry that drives the plot of most episodes. Along with Tori often going out of her way to help Jade and Jade often going to Tori for help. It got to the point that phrases including their ship name started trending worldwide on Website/{{Twitter}}, and it still dominates fanfiction to this day.
* FirstInstallmentWins: The more grounded season 1 is the only one that seems to be fondly remembered by all factions of the fanbase, with the more mean-spirited season 2 being seen as a bit of a SophomoreSlump and the sprawling third season being rather divisive. Extreme character exaggeration is seen as the main culprit, though many found a lot of the show's plotlines either too inconsistent or recycled and the show frequently relapsing back to the [[StatusQuoIsGod status quo after any sign of new development]] as a major long-standing problem.
* GirlShowGhetto: Averted to a certain extent, thanks to the many attractive female cast members, though most of the vocal online fandom tends to be girls.
* GottaShipEmAll: Naturally, with a cast this attractive, ANY possible pairing between two (or more) of them has grown a passionate fanbase, and it's not uncommon {{Fanon}} that every pairing has hooked up at least once during the show.
* GrowingTheBeard: Generally considered around "Rex Dies" and "Wok Star" as it showed the show could develop more complicated characters and emotional substance rather than its previous heavy reliance on zany Sitcom story setups & tropes.
* HarsherInHindsight: All the jokes about Cat's Bibble addiction. ''Series/SamAndCat'' has shown that Cat once ran out of money and then tried to steal and sell her grandmother's jewelry, causing them to have to attend a therapy session for said grandmother to forgive her.
** The ending of ''Beck's Big Break'' can be seen as this, despite Melinda's AssholeVictim status, in light of the [[spoiler: on-set Rust shooting, despite in this case only being a very serious injury.]]
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: Andre's passion for music and dedication to being taken seriously as a musician becomes this in 2024 when Leon Thomas won a Grammy.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** "Robarazzi" spoofed the conference-like format of ''TMZ'' along with a paparazzi-style ambush on Beck and Jade. A few months later, the said show caught Beck's actor Creator/AvanJogia in a "compromising" photo with Series/HannahMontana star Music/MileyCyrus on the latter's 18th birthday.
** Cat refuses to sing the "booty" lyric (which is rather tame) of a song because it is "dirty". When she became a full-blown singer a few years later, Music/ArianaGrande is now a walking ClusterFBomb who frequently sings about sex.
** In "Tori the Zombie," Cat uses a BlandNameProduct equivalent of Gorilla Glue as an adhesive for Tori's makeup, despite it blatantly saying not to use it on human bodies. Originally an outlandish scenario, a woman went viral a decade later for using Gorilla Glue on her hair instead of hairspray.
* HollywoodHomely: Trina and Robbie suffer the most:
** Trina: In "Ice Cream for Ke$ha", a boy who came on to Cat, Tori and Jade is repulsed when Trina offers to let him kiss her. Can't imagine any straight or bisexual male turning down a chance to kiss Creator/DaniellaMonet.
** Robbie may not be a drop-dead stud, but he's average at worst. Yet people seem to find him repulsive.
** The reason the gang had to participate in Sinjin's game show in "The Worst Couple" is that the original contestants were not better looking, even though all of them looked like average teenagers.
* ItsNotSupposedToWinOscars: A frequent response to the issues raised by the show's rather large PeripheryDemographic, who tended to be more critical of the CharacterExaggeration and the fair amount of juvenile, sometimes non-sensical storylines, and didn't like the more coy approach to the darker storylines under the surface of the main family-friendly sitcom plots. Of course, in rebuttal they were often reminded that the show was aimed at children rather than their own age group. Whether that's a valid rebuttal in saying that the show needs to be viewed with lowered expectations or occasional suspension of belief solely because it's aimed at kids is obviously up to debate.
* JerkassDissonance: There were surprisingly a number of fans of Jade who remarked that it would be nigh near impossible to stomach her in real-life, which begged the question if it was Jade on her own who was really the popular one or Elizabeth Gillies and her portrayal of her instead.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Despite being obnoxious, Trina does kinda receive a bunch of lash from everyone that isn't really deserved. Not even ''her own family'' wants anything to do with her. It doesn't help that in just after pulling a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome in "Helen Back Again", [[spoiler: Rex]] ruins her performance in the next episode ("Who Did It to Trina?") because she punched him, leaving her seriously injured. Tori's the only one in the Vega family who seems to actually appreciate Trina because if it wasn't for Trina, she would have never gotten into Hollywood Arts.
** Jade, barely halfway through season 1:
--->'''Jade:''' ''(close to tears)'' "This kite is broken. I was just walking around and ''(voice breaks)'' I saw this kite stuck in a bush, and... and it's broken and someone needs to fix it!"
*** Jade in "Wok Star". Hard not to feel sorry for someone who had her play rejected by the school, then got offered the chance to perform it, only to have the person funding it force her to change a scene in a way that was going to make her play look like a joke in front of her overly-judgmental father. (Who, by the way, hates that she wants to be an entertainer.)
*** Jade again in "the Worst Couple". [[spoiler:And Beck in "The Worst Couple."]]
** Mona Patterson can count within the show's standards, while she was mean and grouchy to the girls she becomes this when [[spoiler:Cat's candle causes a fire that burns her house down]].
** Ponnie ([[spoiler:Fawn]]). More on the jerkass end of things. She may have been crazy but she's convinced that the reason she was removed from Hollywood Arts (a school that its students love) was Tori's admittance. So her mayhem against Tori comes from sadness in addition to all the crazy.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Has a fair number of retroactive viewers, primarily because it's the show that launched one of the world's biggest pop stars of the later 10s...
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Tori, Cat, and Jade who are all considered bisexual by the majority of the fandom.
** Tori is shipped in popular pairings with Jade, Cat, and Beck, semi-popular ones like Andre and Robbie, along with {{Crossover Ship}}s with Carly from ''Series/{{iCarly}}'' and James from ''Series/BigTimeRush''. That is not even getting into her {{Crack Pairing}}s with her sister Trina and Rex.
** Cat has popular pairings with Jade, Robbie and Tori, semi-popular pairings with Trina, Beck and Andre and a popular CrossoverShip with Freddie from ''Series/{{iCarly}}'', and with the SpinOff ''Series/SamAndCat'', Sam.
** Jade is perhaps the biggest launcher, being paired with Tori, Cat, and Beck as her most popular pairings, with less popular pairings with Andre and Robbie and a CrossoverShip with Sam from ''Series/{{iCarly}}''.
* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: Kicking Tori out of Hollywood Arts in ''Helen Back Again''.
* MemeticMutation:
** The phrase "If X, (Y, and Z happened), s/he would burst into flames." Most likely derived from the scene discussing Andre's crazy grandmother, "The woman would burst into flames."
** [[MemeticMolester Creeper Tori.]] [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/creeper%20tori]]
** [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/emotionally%20barren%20beck Emotionally Barren Beck]]
** [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/crazy%20cat Crazy Cat]]
** [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/royally%20awkward%20robbie Royally Awkward Robbie]]
** [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/bad%20boyfriend%20beck Bad Boyfriend Beck]]
** [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/janitor%27s%20closet%20jade Janitor's Closet Jade]]
** [[http://victoriousmemes.tumblr.com/tagged/perfect%20parents Tori's Perfect Parents]]
** "Are you a good witch, or a sandwich?" [[labelnote:Explanation]] In one episode of the show,''April Fools Blank,'' has the group do their own version of Film/TheWizardOfOz, called [[https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi59NDGlO7VAhUoKsAKHSUPB8cQyCkIKjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCi_KBcOA1M8&usg=AFQjCNFjQc_lHt7ihQmV4gd2A3n3KRK25w "The Wizard of Wazz."]] Tori and Cat are in the bathroom impersonating characters from the movie when Tori speaks the line. And thus, it spread across the internet to the point where after the airing of the Series/EmeraldCity episode [[Recap/EmeraldCityS1E5EverybodyLies "Everybody Lies,"]] two actors from the show, Creator/AdriaArjona and Creator/AnaUlaru, [[https://twitter.com/ana_ularu/status/825819852921307141 referenced it in a video,]] though probably unintentionally.[[/labelnote]]
** A few years after the show ended, the song "Take A Hint" caught on due to its surprisingly risque themes for a kidcom and its progressiveness.
*** Furthermore, Jade counting to 3 after the bridge has become famous for [[ClosetKey causing girls to question themselves]].
** Trina's [[SoBadItsGood hilariously awful]] one-woman-show really took off in the musical theatre fandom.
** "Car Battery!"[[labelnote:Explanation]] In one scene, Jade gets a car battery dropped on her head during a game show. This clip became popular after being featured in the Victorious retrospective by ''WebVideo/QuintonReviews''.[[/labelnote]]
** Ariana's appearance while playing Cat was used as "Before Dick", while her music career costumes as [[MadonnaWhoreComplex "After Dick"]] in a meme from the late 2010's.
* {{Moe}}: Cat is naive and innocent, making her adorable.
* NeverLiveItDown:
** Tori kisses Beck in the pilot. Both of them still take flak for it. Justified, as it's mostly from Jade. Jade is clingy and jealous towards Beck, and spiteful towards... well, everybody, but especially Tori. Tori then kissing Cat's boyfriend only adds to this.
** Tori's most infamous actions are what she does in "Prom wrecker", specifically by not caring when her "prome" idea made it impossible for Jade to do her art project. Some fans still haven't forgiven her for this.
** Jade stealing Tori's blood in "Tori Gets Stuck" is this to Tori fans and/or Jade haters, while more of the fandom in general had a harder time moving past her [[BreakTheCutie actions towards Cat in ''Crazy Ponnie]].
* NoYay:
** The Tori/Trina romantic ship have a small fanbase, while the rest of the fandom [[{{Squick}} won't touch (or even acknowledge the existience of) that pairing at all]].
** Cat's infantilization in later seasons, crossing into TooDumbToLive, killed a lot of shipping energy for some towards her character.
%%* OlderThanTheyThink: Remember ''Series/{{Taina}}''? Same plot, different coast (LA instead of NY), also being cut short unceremoniously.
* OneSceneWonder: Tug in "Prom Wrecker", [[ShipTease who turned out to be enough of an oddball to match Cat.]]
* OneTrueThreesome: For many, Cat/Tori/Jade aka Catorade. Beck/Jade/Tori also have their fans.
* PeripheryDemographic: An odd version of this trope, mainly since it was commercially popular at the time with its target audience, but was definitely this among its surprisingly large-for-its-kind teenage/adult audience. It's mostly due to becoming a major favorite [[LGBTFanbase in the LGBTQ community]] with the many HoYay moments and the massively popular Jade/Tori pairing, and because of more guilty-pleasure seeking adults and older teenagers who appreciated some of the more grown-up cultural references and subtext as well as the subtle adult humor.
* PopularityPolynomial: Was very popular in its day but tended to kind of fall by the cultural wayside after its cancellation, mainly just existing as a trivia question of "What was the World's Most Famous Popstar near the end of the 2010's best known role before hitting it big as a singer?". Although it still hasn't been that long since ''Victorious'' aired, enough time seems to have passed for nostalgic re-examinations to happen. And by the end of the decade a combination of Ariana Grande's becoming one of the most famous singers alive, Nickelodeon's {{Kid Com}}s not living up to snub, and the PeripheryDemographic getting older led many to come back and discover the show was actually much funnier and higher quality than they remember. Nowadays it's upheld as one of Dan Schnieder's best works and his last truly great work. Many elements of the show are even more awesome in hindsight, like Tori and Jade's duet "Take a Hint." Especially post-[=#MeToo=], people appreciate that the song is about consent and casual sexual harrasment.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Tandré (Tori/André), Bori (Beck/Tori), Bade (Beck/Jade), Jori (Jade/Tori) Cade or Jat (Cat/Jade) and Cabbie (Cat/Robbie). And that's just the most popular ships.
* RelationshipWritingFumble / PlatonicWritingRomanticReading: Tori Vega and Jade West are supposed to be enemies and competing for the same guy, Beck Oliver, though many fans have pointed out they seem to have more sexual tension and a deeper emotional connection with each other, and given there was argument whether or not this was overzealous ShippingGoggles interepration or there was geniune romantic subtext to their relationship (made more ambigious considering it was still fairly taboo at the time for explicit same-sex couples in kid shows). Some fans say it's just Schneider's usual penchant for throwaway HoYay fanservice and that Jade was pretty much a constant Innuendo generator that their more WithFriendsLikeThese dynamic was exaggerated as BelligerentSexualTension, especially consiering Jade's more vicious outbursts to her in seasons 2 & 3. Others noted the more romantic dynamic they shared in episodes like ''Wok Star'', one or both of them having a StupidSexyFlanders moment at least OnceAnEpisode, that Jade always got really irritable towards those who were flirting or romantically connected to Tori despite a successful paring would seemingly take her off the market as a romantic rival to Beck, the vast amounts of physical intimacy between the two (despite Jade always giving the DeathGlare to anybody besides Beck daring to even pat her on the shoulder, with the only other exception being... Tori) and the fact that despite being supposed rivals who couldn't stand each other they always went to each other at their most vulnerable (often in the... (Janitor's) Closet). Some saw them playing a married couple (with Cat as their child) in a lesson directly about Subtext as close to blatant LampshadeHanging as there could possibly be, and in season 3 episodes like ''A Christmas Tori'' and especially the famous ''Tori and Jade's Play Date'' the LesYay wasn't even remotely subtle.
** The official Nickelodeon twitter did seem to hint at the pairing's popularity back in 2012 during the hype for the latter episode, and it was officially acknowledged as a pairing in 2021- though when it was much less risky to say so.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Leon Thomas III played the homeless guitar player Arthur in ''Film/AugustRush'', and had a minor role in an early episode of ''iCarly''.
** Felix Ryan, who portrayed Damian in "A Film by Dale Squires", would go on to portray Skull's son Spike in ''Series/PowerRangersSamurai''.
** You can spot Lainey Lipson aka [[WebVideo/MyMusic Scene]] among the students during the 'Prome' in "Prom Wrecker", [[YouLookFamiliar and later as a Northridge girl]] in "Driving Tori Crazy".
** Many people were surprised to learn that [[Music/ArianaGrande one of the biggest pop stars formerly on the market]] was an actress for the show.
** The girl that wouldn't stop kissing Andre in "Prom Wrecker" is [[Literature/TheVampireDiaries Sarah Salvatore]]
** Robert Christopher Riley - who played Derrick, the security guard in "Stage Fighting" - later co-starred with Creator/ElizabethGillies in ''Series/Dynasty2017''.
* RonTheDeathEater:
** Beck's not exactly the perfect boyfriend and can have his vain/{{Jerkass}} moments at times (and there were also a fair amount of viewers [[FlatCharacter who just found him really boring compared to the rest of the main cast]]), though that all tend to be rather exaggerated as if he was being outright abusive or antagonistic, aided not insignificantly by some DieForOurShip and TheUnfairSex feelings being thrown into the mix.
** It became noticeable many Tori haters would often pounce on every occasional {{Jerkass}} moment, no matter if it was done by any intentional maliciousness or not, and claim her irredeemable while ignoring Jade often hovering around the MoralEventHorizon and doing something extremely Jerk-ish at least OnceAnEpisode.
* RootingForTheEmpire: Whether or not it's a case of Vocal Minority, judging by fandom reactions Jade was becoming far more popular than the main (and more ostensibly sympathetic) character Tori, with many rooting for her attempts to foil Tori to be successful.
* TheScrappy: Tori's parents are very unpopular among fans for being lousy parents to both Trina and Tori such as leaving them alone for long periods of time without supervision, not making them breakfast, or ignoring Trina when she has a medical issue and needs help.
* SeasonalRot:
** Season 2, mostly because of how some of the characters have been [[{{Flanderization}} flanderized]]. As of Season 2, Cat TookALevelInDumbass, Jade TookALevelInJerkass into often being an outright psycho (or rather, the writers seemed to forget that she's supposed to have a HiddenHeartOfGold) and some of the characters seem to have lost a little focus. Jade's KarmaHoudini status has been seriously downplayed as she goes out of her way to stir up more trouble, but Tori seems to [[TookALevelInJerkass be in one of her jerkier moments]] with not much retribution.
** Season 3 is either the GrowingTheBeard point because of more interesting and enjoyable plots, or even worse because of {{Flanderization}}.
*** The first half of season 3 (often dubbed ''Season 3A'') was considered a high point for having the richest character development of the series as a whole as well as some of the most creative episodes and the rather taboo-busting ''Jade and Tori's Playdate'', but considering how much ''Tori Goes Platinum'' seemed to resolve a lot of the series-long plot threads and character-based tensions the episodes afterwards (most in what was dubbed ''Season 3B'' or sometimes just considered season 4 considering the long break between the two official halves) were seen as increasingly aimless plot-wise and often degrading that established CharacterDevelopment for StatusQuoIsGod and RuleOfFunny, where even some fans came to see the abrupt cancellation as a mercy kill moreso than anything else.
* {{Shipping}}:
** The most popular ships are:
*** Beck/Jade: OfficialCouple, OppositesAttract
*** Jade/Tori: SlapSlapKiss, DatingCatwoman, HideYourLesbians
*** Cat/Robbie: PuppyLove
*** Tori/Andre: PlatonicLifePartners
*** Cat/Jade: PseudoRomanticFriendship
*** Cat/Beck: BigBrotherInstinct
*** Beck/Tori: JustFriends
*** Robbie/Beck: HoYay, GiveGeeksAChance
*** Andre/Jade: WhenSheSmiles
*** Beck/Trina: StalkerWithACrush
*** Sinjin/Trina: OddFriendship
** ShipMates:
** A common triple ShipMates consists of Tori/André, Jade/Beck and Cat/Robbie. It avoids anyone having to DieForOurShip or even having to break the only canon pairing up.
** For those that prefer the HoYay side of things (despite the unlikeliness of the pairings being canon), Jade/Tori and Robbie/Beck make the most popular pairings along with Cat/Andre as an amiable PairTheSpares move.
*** Tori/Beck can be this for [[HideYourLesbians Jade/Cat]] shippers, either to set the stage (if Tori steals Beck away) or as a means of throwing Beck a bone (if Tori and Beck get together after he and Jade break up).
*** Things get a little more interesting if your OneTruePairing is Jade/Tori. The ShipMates for that one can end up being Cat/Beck or Cat/Robbie (the former being ideal, as it allows you to avert both of the popular Jade pairings). May also involve a nasty breakup between Beck and Jade in order to set the stage. Unfortunately, there aren't many people who've been willing to set those two up together.
*** Paradoxically, Jade/Beck and Cat/Jade go very well together. Beck/Jade stories will often have some focus on the Cat/Jade friendship, or even a nod to the romantic ship, or even (in rare cases) say that Cat and Jade are FriendsWithBenefits.
** Likewise, Cat/Jade stories will often develop a Beck/Jade friendship after the break-up, or have Beck and Jade still together.
* ShipToShipCombat: Nowhere near the legendary ship wars of ''iCarly'', but in a show that provided a lot of fuel for {{Shipping}} perhaps it was inevitable there would be a few quarrels:
** Noticeably there was a vocal anti-Beck/Tori stance in the fandom early on, especially among the supporters of the instantly popular Beck/Jade pair, perhaps leading to strong downplaying the LoveTriangle that was supposedly set up from the pilot despite the former being moderately popular overall.
** Once Jade/Tori grew increasingly popular there were some minor Beck/Jade v Tori/Jade feuds when it became clearer they were the most popular ships inside the Beck/Tori/Jade trio. Often it could lead to rather childish arguments or ship warring, with increasing hate-tagging by Jade/Tori shippers and outright denial of those character's possible bi/homosexuality (even in subtext) by Beck/Jade shippers, as well as the tendency to explicitly invoke that MoralGuardian's sway over kid-centric television and general homophobia would always keep Jori from being canon.
* SignatureScene:
** The scene where Tori sings "Freak The Freak Out" and pulls away her wig. The way she touched the microphone is just iconic!
** The conversation in the third act of "Tori and Jade's Playdate" has garnered a ton of praise from the LGBTFanbase and even inspired animatics and reenactments.
*** More specifically, Jade counting down then choking one of the guys they are singing to is widely known as an ''LGBTAwakening'' moment for many female viewers who were teenagers at the time.
* SignatureSong:
** "Freak The Freak Out"
** The ThemeSong "Make It Shine"
** “Take a Hint”
* SoBadItsGood:
** Trina's one-woman show. Eventually weaponized by Robbie to avoid writing a bad review.
** Trina's acting/singing in general.
** Robbie's songs about broken glass may also count, depending on the definition of bad.
*** Speaking of, "Favorite Food".
** The entire April Fool's Day episode was so over the top and riddled with meta jokes that its hard not to laugh at the pure insanity.
* {{Squick}}:
** Some see Sinjin as a walking {{Squick}} at times
** The exploding-bag-of-blood scene in ''Tori Gets Stuck''
** [[ItMakesSenseInContext Robbie getting sprayed with a waterfall of snot from a Giant Rex]] in ''Beck's Big Break''.
* StrawmanHasAPoint:
** While there was a lot of justification for Jade's anger at Tori during ''Prom Wrecker'' due to her performance being cancelled for the prome without her say in the matter, Jade as payback terrorizing the entire school gave up any high ground considering Tori, knowing Jade and how vague-yet-ominous her threats were and with the possibility of many gallons of (real) blood being on the table as a weapon, in many ways now had to protect the student body moreso than just herself.
** Jade's her usually snarky and sullen self in ''Rex Dies'', but in many ways her seemingly cruel advice in setting up to have Rex ''die'' in front of Robbie was out of concern for their dysfunctional relationship and his mental health being better in the long run.
** Tori was perceived as being incredibly selfish for leaving Robbie behind in ''The Squid and the Coconut'', but there was no reason for him to jump over the counter and break all those plates in the end and the fact was they only had to work off their bill in the first place because he didn't bring money for a meal he promised to pay for.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong:
** "Forever baby" and "Give It Up" from "Freak the Freak Out" to "[[Music/RickAstley "Never Gonna Give You Up"]] and "[[Film/MoulinRouge Lady Marmalade]]" respectively.
** "5 Fingaz 2 da Fase" is this to [[Music/SirMixALot "Baby Got Back"]].
** "The Gorilla Club" uses the "[[Music/MCHammer Hammer Dance]]" as a RunningGag, the actual dance is about right but the music used is ''not'' "U Can't Touch This".
* TakeThatScrappy:
** “The Bad Roommate” was one big HumiliationConga for Jade, and to many, it was satisfying to see Jade finally get [[KarmaHoudini comeuppance for her actions]].
** Trina being severely injured after her harness malfunctions during a school play in "Who Did It to Trina?" (for that matter anytime someone calls out Trina for her selfish tendencies).
** Pretty much any time Rex got hurt.
* TestosteroneBrigade: Music/ArianaGrande, Creator/ElizabethGillies, Music/VictoriaJustice and Creator/DaniellaMonet enticed many young men to watch the series.
* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: If you were a fan of ''Series/{{Taina}}'', you may hate this show, especially when you consider Nickelodeon [[ScrewedByTheNetwork screwed over the former]] and [[AdoredByTheNetwork more or less adores the latter... right up until they canceled it.]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** The Series/{{iCarly}} crossover. There was little to no interaction between characters from either show except for the ending. The plot was the same as “Beggin On Your Knees” except the villain is a two-timer, and Tori was the only one with major interaction with the iCarly gang, as well as a minor rap battle between Robbie/Rex and Sam.
** A case of WhatHappenedToTheMouse in "Jade Dumps Beck", where Jade tried to give Beck a dog only to have it get violent on his dad. Jade later refused to drive Tori home, claiming "it's not that far a walk". Surely letting Tori take the huge dog that's only docile in her presence (she helps blow its nose!) would settle the safety issue.
** After Robbie and Beck shared a b-plot in "A Film by Dale Squires", the pairing's popularity grew considerably and many thought it could blossom into the show's sweetest OddFriendship while filling several episode side-plots. Beyond a few minor interactions, they had little to do with each other from season 2 onwards.
** Many were surprised by the {{Continuity Nod}}s, previous episode references, and main characters other than Tori having their slap updates displayed that were conspicuous in "Robbie Sells Rex", with some thinking the show was suddenly going to become more cohesive episode-to-episode and put the spotlight on more of it's supporting characters. The episodes that followed, however, didn't follow suit. Either they didn't have the chance to put in these newly discovered tactics before the show's cancellation, or this episode just proved to be a strange anomaly.
* ToughActToFollow: Despite the general success of Dan Schneider's works as a whole, the series, in general, was hard-pressed to live up to the praise of his three previous works (''Series/DrakeAndJosh'', ''Series/Zoey101'', and ''Series/ICarly''). This could be responsible for the show not being quite on the level of the previous works per se, and ultimately kicking the bucket in the end.
* TransAudienceInterpretation: Robbie is theorized by a part of the fandom to be a trans man, due to his more-adamant-than-average insistence on being gendered as male, as well as AlternativeJokeInterpretation regarding several gags about him being mistaken for female, including the fact that he was sent to a woman's prison.
* UnintentionallySympathetic:
** Robbie. In season one, his ButtMonkey moments were somewhat [[JerkassVictim justified]]. However, this got Flanderized to his friends treating him like dirt for no reason. Watching the later seasons, you'd be thinking to yourself ''no wonder he's a jerk to them.''
** Hope Quincy from ''Andre's Horrible Girl''. Yes, she is spoiled and controlling, but Andre only kept dating her to get a music deal with her father, he breaks up with her on her birthday, and when she is seriously injured from a piece of falling debris, her ''own father'' won't go to the hospital with her, choosing to listen to Andre sing.
** Occasionally, Trina. While yes, she has a massive ego and no real talent, it's strongly implied (especially in her The Slap videos on the show's now obsolete website) she suffers from deep-seated insecurities and strives to gain everyone's approval through faked confidence. Keep in mind that people rarely ever says anything nice about her, with even her own parents implying they don't want her around. The poor girl is only ''seventeen years old'' and gets to hear how much no one likes her on a daily basis as she stands in her sister's shadow. It's not a farfetched idea she'll likely suffer from emotional issues in the future.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Jade in ''The Worst Couple.'' The writers want you to feel sorry for her that [[spoiler: Beck broke up with her]], but it's hard to actually do that when she acts like a spiteful bitch to everyone. Giving a ReasonYouSuckSpeech to her [[WithFriendsLikeThese so-called friends]] and breaking Sinjin's leg by running him down make the [[TakeThatScrappy audience cheer for her misery rather than feel sorry for it]], with many seeing it as Jade's justified BreakTheHaughty moment that's been a long time coming.
* UnnecessaryMakeover: Jade's season 2 hairstyle[[note]]Black hair with a blue streak instead of brown hair with multicolored streaks[[/note]], according to [[http://victorious.wikia.com/wiki/Beggin%27_on_Your_Knees_%28episode%29#Reception this wiki]], has not been seen favorably. In all fairness, [[WordOfGod according to Liz Gillies]], this change came because she felt that she needed a tan after finding herself pale in a bikini in "Survival of the Hottest" (Which she lampshades [[http://twitpic.com/1w762t hilariously]]). But the producers may have gone a bit too far. In an interview Gillies explains that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zygd5N-iR3A she was actually too pale]] and needed to be darkened. This change may not have been wise in conjunction with the other alterations to her appearance.
* UnpopularPopularCharacter:
** Robbie in the show is often portrayed as the awkward, nerdy loser of the group and is constantly the butt of the jokes, but fans typically consider him to be a very sympathetic, endearing, and hilarious character whose unique talents are not as appreciated as everyone else and his relationship with Cat is often one of the most popular pairings in the show.
** Trina is HatedByAll in the show and is even TheUnfavorite to her own parents, but many fans love her mainly for the reasons she is hated InUniverse, as Trina's overconfidence and AwesomeEgo make her funny and entertaining. It helps that she often comes off as more sympathetic (even if it is [[UnintentionallySympathetic unintentionally]]) than the main characters, even her sister Tori.
* {{Wangst}}: Andre. Certain plotlines usually had him lamenting about a certain disaster either to his talent or a budding musical career, prompting Tori to step in and help for the rest of the episode. Other examples of this include him doing the same thing with his always kissing girlfriend and never being stung by a bee.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids:
** Obviously aimed at the younger set (it's on Nickelodeon) but despite the broad humor it's much more of a young adult show, thanks to the older cast, massive amounts of innuendo, many {{Fanservice}} moments and constant hinting at darker and more mature themes lying below it's seemingly [[HiddenDepths tame kiddie-sitcom surface]]. Tellingly it [[AdoredByTheNetwork became a re-run staple on Teen Nick.]]
** Some think the comedic violence sometimes goes way too far for what's acceptable in a kid's show, especially concerning Jade's actions in episodes like ''Tori Gets Stuck'' and ''Crazy Ponnie'' and the entirety of BrainSqueezers.
* TheWoobie:
** Cat in "[=WiFi in the Sky=]". The poor girl was just having some fun with the effects... Granted, she was distracting everyone from the project and not really helping, but she's Cat. Tori could've known what was going to happen if she yelled.
*** Cat again, in “Cat's New Boyfriend”. Her squeaking voice and devastated facial expression when she caught Tori in the act of kissing her boyfriend makes you want to hug her. When she asks "Why would you be mean to me?" the moe/woobiness is just amplified.
*** Cat at the end of ''Crazy Ponnie.'' And then there's the time she was dog-sitting at the house with expensive things that kept breaking. And the time she wound up living in the school attic because her parents moved away and her only alternative was with mean relatives. It's like they were going for BreakTheCutie here.
*** "Car, Fire, and Rain" has her mourn her favorite actress' death and take a miserable 2 hour car ride to honor her memory, only for it to turn out she misread the headline. The actress then sprays her, Tori, and Jade with a hose for trespassing ''after'' Tori explained the misunderstanding. To top it all off, she's guilt-stricken with the knowledge she accidentally burned down the woman's house. The only consolation is she avoided charges since investigators assumed the testimony was just mindless ranting due to smoke inhalation about a cat with red fur.
** Sinjin. He's not COMPLETELY ignorant.
** Robbie. He’s awkward, quirky, and an immature nerd that can make decisions that inadvertently get his friends in the worst situations like eating large portions of caviar that’s over-budget, choking on a pretzel which gets everyone late and stuck in detention for some weird reason, and worst of all, accidentally killing a small octopus which the gets everyone locked up, but he’s still genuinely sweet, caring, friendly and loyal that’s extremely heartbreaking when his friends, Trina, his parents, his own puppet Rex and pretty much almost everyone mistreats him for the pettiest of reasons and constantly makes him feel bad for himself especially he’s already so insecure to the point of self-loathing. In one episode, it's even implied that his mother left because of him. He’s clearly not perfect, but he’s actually quite talented and a sympathetic and lovable character that deserves so much better.
-->'''Andre:''' Why are you crying?
-->'''Robbie:''' Sometimes, it's hard for me NOT to cry...
** And then there's Andre in "Jade Gets Crushed."
-->"But if I sing her the song, then she'll know how I feel, and then Beck will know, and then I'm a bad person, and I promised my grandma I'd never be a bad person... you know, before she lost her mind."
