* {{Adorkable}}: Andy. A former Wall Street exec who fulfilled his dream of opening his own candy store when his firm folded and rang a bell every time he said something funny/cute. Fans think he's adorable and dorky.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** In ''And the Loophole,'' Max makes a comment about having a baby when she didn't know she was pregnant. Was this a BlackComedy joke, or something that really happened? Notable in that Caroline actually wonders if Max was serious (instead of brushing it off as another joke), and Max doesn't deny it.
** ''And the College Experience'' implies that Sophie may actually be a witch.
* ArcFatigue: Max and Randy's romance arc in season 6. They're constantly breaking up or making up over the same problems. There's a long travel storyline where Max stalks him, and it ultimately has to move on. And by the end of the season, they get back together anyway.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The theme song, "Second Chance" by Peter, Bjorn and John, which is also used for transitions.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Sophie. For some she's an annoying and pointless character who isn't funny, relies on the same bland humour with each appearance and her role as of late has been reduced to her showing up at random parts during the episode to spout off unfunny one liners. While others think that Sophie has her genuinely funny moments, and some fans admit the fact she's played by Jennifer Coolidge redeems her slightly.
* BestKnownForTheFanservice: A lot of people know the show for Creator/KatDennings wearing a form-fitting waitress uniform.
%% * CargoShip: Max and Caroline's bathtub.
%%** And now Caroline and the showerhead.
* CreatorsPet: Sophie comes of as this to a sizable portion of viewers. As mentioned above, opinion on her is largely divided, yet later seasons have put an increasing amount of focus on her. It was taken to extremes in season 4, which could have easily been titled "Sophie's Wedding, featuring Max and Caroline" for all of the focus Sophie's impending marriage to Oleg got in comparison to Max and Caroline themselves. Seasons 5 and 6 toned it down slightly (with major emphasis on "slightly"), and many viewers blame the show's slipping ratings on Sophie [[SpotlightStealingSquad all but hijacking the show]].
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Earl, whose senility in old age combined with him being [[TheStoner almost perpetually high]] frequently results in comedy gold.
** Han has become this in later seasons as he starts becoming less of a punching bag and more of a DeadpanSnarker who's willing to fight back at Max.
* FanPreferredCouple: Max and Caroline, even though by the end of the show, Max ends up with Randy and Caroline is with Bobby.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: ''Two Broke Girls'' was fairly popular in the US, but it is ''huge'' in China. Strong, ambitious women battling economic problems to fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams has apparently struck a chord with the Chinese lower-middle class who have been hit hard by China's slowing economic growth.
* HilariousInHindsight: The episode ''And the Cupcake War'' has the girls participating in ''Series/CupcakeWars'' and losing. In season 10 of the actual ''Cupcake Wars'', Matthew Moy (who plays Han) participated in the celebrity-bakers edition [[spoiler:and even ended up winning.]]
* LesYay: The titular characters, naturally.
* MemeticMutation: Whenever someone asks why this show is still airing, expect at least one person to answer "[[FanService Boobs]]".
* NeverLiveItDown: Caroline in "And The Hold Up" when she urinates while the diner is being robbed. Sophie keeps cracking jokes about it and only stops after Han does the same thing at the theater and switches to him.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Fans often use "Maxoline" to refer to the lead duo of Max and Caroline.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Later seasons redeemed Han for many people, as he starts becoming (slightly) less of a punching bag and more of a DeadpanSnarker who's willing to fight back at Max.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** It's now impossible to look at Deke without [[Series/TheEricAndreShow expecting him to shoot Hannibal]].
** Han is played by Creator/MatthewMoy. His name became much more recognizable when he became a [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse voice actor]].
** "And the Knock-Off Knockout" has early roles for Creator/DanielleMacdonald and Creator/SamanthaHanratty as Ashlin and Kemberly, respectively, the prep school girls who stole the t-shirt design from the Max's Homemade Cupcakes shirt.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: These girls are trying ''really'' hard, but have made almost no progress towards their goal (or did make progress, only to have it taken away) and are stuck in PerpetualPoverty. As expected by the very title of the show, StatusQuoIsGod, which kind of makes it hard for a lot of people to keep fighting an uphill battle.
* TrailerJokeDecay: Just about every promo featured the joke "Twitter is stupid, and Instagram is Twitter for people who can't read."
* TheWoobie: Caroline. Thanks to her father's crime, she has lost several opportunities to improve her and Max's business.
