* AccidentalInnuendo: In the ''VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureEyesOfHeaven'' playthrough, Woolie explains to Pat that Jolyne spells her last name "Cujoh" instead of "Kujo" like her father, because "''fuck'' [[WhenYouComingHomeDad her daddy]]." Pat immediately makes a joke about her having [[IncestSubtext a complex for her dad]], and [[CrossesTheLineTwice her being the only woman with strong enough legs to actually withstand fucking Jotaro]].
* AlasPoorScrappy: Even if Matt and Liam dislike/hate [[VideoGame/LifeIsStrange Chloe]] for her attitude and behavior, they're clearly [[spoiler:shocked and horrified when they see her in a wheelchair at the end of Part 13.]]
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Pat and Woolie theorize during the ''VideoGame/JoJosBizarreAdventureEyesOfHeaven'' playthrough that the entirety of ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' has been a journey of sexual self discovery for Creator/HirohikoAraki, going from huge {{Bara|Genre}} types to more waifish {{Bishonen}} types over time, with a brief dalience towards LesYay during Stone Ocean. Their reaction to this realization is absolutely priceless.
--> '''Woolie:''' What we're seeing here is a man discovering himself sexually, that's all.
--> '''Pat:''' ''Over the course of thirty years!?''
--> '''Both:''' *descend into a fit of manic laughter*
** And that isn't even getting into the likes of Grand Wizard Wakka or the ''countless'' other times they've [[{{Flanderization}} Flanderized]] or mischaracterized other characters in the games they've played.
** Punish mode in the Punisher game is Frank wanting to feel it with the knife to satisfy his killing urge.
* AluminiumChristmasTrees:
** In their ''WWE All Stars'' and ''WWF No Mercy'' videos, they use a custom wrestler named the Shockmaster who seems to be created to be as ridiculous as possible. In reality, there was a wrestler called the Shockmaster and he looked pretty ridiculous (though not to the extent Pat managed in ''All Stars'').
** While playing various ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' games the two started listing various bizarre stories from the comics, all of which actually happened. The trope was fully invoked when Matt brought up how Peter's radioactive semen killed Mary-Jane in ''ComicBook/SpiderManReign'' only for Pat to declare it didn't happen.
* ArcFatigue:
** Pat and Woolie's blind ''VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}}'' playthrough. Specifically whenever Woolie plays as he plays very slow and meticulously. Which is exasperated when he reaches the Forbidden Woods, a large area in its own right. This earned the LP the moniker of ''Snailborne,'' a name still occasionally referenced by fans whenever any game starts slowing down. Total time: 54 episodes and 28+ hours [[note]](66 episodes and 35+ hours, if one counts the follow-up playthrough of ''The Old Hunters'' DLC)[[/note]].
** Woolie and Pat's VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic playthrough, due to Woolie's lack of progress, tendency to wander, and being repeatedly SidetrackedByTheGoldSaucer. It eventually ended after ''[[ArchivePanic 99 parts and 51 hours of footage]]''[[note]](As the majority of episodes are half an hour long, some fans opt to cut the hour long debut episode in half to count the playthrough at exactly 100 episodes total)[[/note]], making it the longest playthrough of any game in the history of the Super Best Friends.
** ''VideoGame/TokyoMirageSessionsFE''. It was in a bad enough starting position, being a niche JRPG based on a premise that can be [[AudienceAlienatingPremise alienating]] to some, but it also came out not long after the above ''Knights of the Old Republic'' playthrough and turned out to be stuffed to the gills with FakeLongevity. It was also concurrent with several very popular series such as ''VideoGame/AWayOut'', ''VideoGame/GodOfWarPS4'' (itself a sufferer of this trope: see below), and two whole playthroughs of ''VideoGame/DetroitBecomeHuman''. At least some vocal fans accused ''TMS'' of taking time that could be spent progressing through the other games, even going so far as to mass dislike it and demand the Best Friends cancel the LP. Total time: 82 episodes and 45+ hours of footage.
** ''VideoGame/GodOfWarPS4'' dedicated many episodes to exploring the semi-open world and completing sidequests, which lead to the main plot progressing at a crawl. It doesn't help that the game is a {{Metroidvania}}, or that at certain points in the game, the available area to explore automatically expands. This led to the usual lineup of jokes such as "God of Snail," as well as the more LP-relevant "Side quest go up, but main quest go ''down''"[[note]]A reference to Pat's obsessive min-maxing of the Strength stat, to the point where he passes up decent equipment because they make Strength go down[[/note]]. Total time: 46 episodes and 23+ hours of footage.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: A fanon example: an animator named [=CrankyConstruct=] often makes animations of certain episodes, and intros to some as well, and, put simply, their art style is ''adorable''. No video shows it better than [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7Qkzbsz7hs "Everything's Exploding"]], which also shows the sight of Liam sleeping peacefully with a pillow, [[OccidentalOtaku likely an anime body pillow]].
** Then there's one of their famous Intro Animators [[https://www.youtube.com/user/VoltaBass Volta Bass]], he has made a lot of well-animated intros[[labelnote:Intros He's Made]][[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBAZAjjjrjk Yakuza 0]], The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW9cq2vbBUo Intro]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW9cq2vbBUo Outro]] of ''Videogame/NightinTheWoods'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh7rFkEqFL0 Matt's Channel Intro]][[/labelnote]] for some of their playthoughs. What many in the fanbase consider his crowning achievement is his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhpz3c0cO-w Shitstorm VI -]] [[Literature/AtTheMountainsOfMadness At the Mountains of Madness]] Animation, awesome does not even begin to describe the intro itself.
** From the Franchise/{{Kirby}} lore videos, [[https://twitter.com/The_M0thman Mothmandraws]] managed to create artworks of Kirby characters to fit the tone of this four-episode series. As a result, most of them also cross over into CreepyAwesome.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Rage. A majority enjoyed that he was the primary focus of ''Def Jam: Fight for New York'', adding a cool new original character to the Best Friends' mythology. Then Rage started appearing more and more -- [[SpotlightStealingSquad frequently at the expense of Zubaz, one of the team's classic characters]] -- leading older fans to accuse Rage of being a CreatorsPet. This perception wasn't helped by the penultimate ''Rustlemania 2'' episode, where Rage leaves the Baz [[CurbStompBattle utterly humiliated]].
* BrokenBase: Has its own page [[BrokenBase/TwoBestFriendsPlay here]].
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** In the Season 2 playthrough of ''The Walking Dead'', Pat jokes about having Clementine punching a pregnant woman so hard in the stomach that the baby flies out, which he will use to distract nearby zombies. Also, taking the joke further, he says the baby will actually be glad to be out of her womb, referring to her as a "bitch."
** Liam seems to be pushing this for a lot of fans; as detailed above, some are uncomfortable with the sheer amount of exposure he's gotten as of late, but his attitude toward Warren during Episode 5 of ''Life is Strange'' seemed to stop being ComedicSociopathy and outright offputting for a lot of viewers right around the point he declared ''"I wish we can make Joyce and Frank so suicidal that they'd blow the place up with Warren inside it,"'' particularly as the character he loathes never does anything particularly ''wrong''. While a lot of viewers felt that Warren had previously been a SitcomArchnemesis for Liam - equivalent to Pat's escapades against [[VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition Quint]] - here it turned a little ''too'' intense.
** Happens a lot depending on the material such as Grand Wizard Wakka and Naruto shitting on babies.
** Woolie makes a number of jokes to this effect in their ''VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry'' playthrough. He especially rips into the infamous scene where Vergil fires a rifle through Lilith's torso, killing her unborn child; calling it a ".50 Caliber coat hanger" and wondering if Plan B was written on the bullet.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** It's hard to tell how much Matt and Pat actually enjoy from Walking Dead Season 2. However, there's no denying that the guys really took a liking to Luke, with Pat mentioning how [[EvenTheGuysWantHim "dreamy"]] he is. Jane, too, because of her carrying a pragmatism unique to most characters in the season. It's made entirely clear in their wrap-up that they certainly didn't like Season 2 as much as Season 1, and a number of Matt's comments on his Tumblr have outright stated Telltale needs better writing for the next one.
** The ''[[VideoGame/OmikronTheNomadSoul Omikron]]'' playthrough is undoubtedly one of the hardest games for the Zaibatsu to get through. Despite this, the Friends seem to like Soks, the FunnyRobot that handles the Awakened's weapons. In a game filled with [[WhatTheHellIsThatAccent terrible accents]] and [[OffModel shoddy character models]], Soks is the only character with a unique design and a [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} somewhat humorous personality]] (even if, as Woolie points out, he's pretty clearly an {{Expy}} of [[Franchise/StarWars C-3PO]]). The fact that [[HyperCompetentSidekick he helps the Nomad Soul discover]] [[TheMole the traitor]] in the Awakened's ranks and his voice actor is [[TookTheBadFilmSeriously giving one of the better performances]] also helps.
* FandomRivalry:
** Between them and the WebVideo/GameGrumps. Every so often, you'll find comments comparing the two, or outright accusing [=TBFP=] of ripping the Game Grumps off (despite [=TBFP=] predating Game Grumps by a year). Nevertheless, Jon of Game Grumps has admitted he was inspired by [=TBFP=] to make a two person show revolving video games. While Pat has [[https://www.facebook.com/tbfprulz/posts/473024186044052 expressed disappointment in Game Grumps]], both Matt and Pat are fans of Creator/{{Egoraptor}}, referencing his ''[[WebAnimation/AwesomeSeries Metal Gear Awesome]]'' and ''WebAnimation/GirlchanInParadise'' series on occasion. Regardless, the two groups seem to be on good terms, as evidenced in their 2013 E3 videos. And indeed, the two groups collaborated with each other, with the Grumps playing Dinotopia on the Zaibatsu channel, and the Best Friends playing Spider-Man 3 with the Grumps as part of Grumpcade.
** There's a much more hostile one between them and LetsPlay/PewDiePie. Which could be said to be instigated by Matt, as whenever he addresses the fandom, he likes to think of them as "better than [=PewDiePie=] fans."
** There is also a certain rivalry with WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment with Matt commenting on an early LP there was not much interesting material on his website. During the ''VideoGame/KillerIsDead'' playthrough Matt commented that the only content from Spoony he likes is his early stuff from before Spoony had his infamous CreatorBreakdown.
** They also possibly have something of an issue with [[WebVideo/HeyAshWhatchaPlayin Ashly Burch]], as suggested in their ''Colonial Marines'' video and a more podcast discussing Anthony Burch's leaving Gearbox.
*** Although this is possibly subverted/just the Best Friends ribbing other people as in a podcast episode, Matt declares Ashly a 'sweetheart' for coming over during a convention specifically to ''mock Woolie''.
* FauxSymbolism: During the ''VideoGame/EarthDefenseForce2017'' video, while discussing the symbology of the game.
-->'''Pat:''' So what do the giant alien space ships shitting bugs out represent?\
'''Matt:''' Freemasons.
* FranchiseOriginalSin: Discussed, regarding the ''Metroid'' series. When Matt, Pat, and Woolie watched the cutscenes from ''Videogame/MetroidOtherM'', they took the plot to task for its shortcomings. Then Matt, Woolie, and Liam played ''Videogame/MetroidFusion'', which they were much more positive about. As they played, they were surprised at how many of ''Other M'''s plot elements (such as Samus' backstory with Adam) were already present in ''Fusion'', just better executed.
* FriendlyFandoms:
** Some fans overlap with [[LetsPlay/TheOnlineWarrior Maximillian Christensen]]'s fanbase. If you hear anybody mention a Max on the channel, it's him. Taken up to 11, considering that the Best Friends are fans of him, have had him on the Podcast, got the LetsPlay/YoVideogames crew to do Rustlemania intros, and even did a proper crossover when Matt and Woolie flew out to California to hang with Max and the doods.
** Many fans of ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'' became well-acquainted with the ''Best Friends'' fanbase near the end of the latter series' run, when ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry5'' was announced and Pat and Woolie played through the entire series (except for ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry2'').
* FridgeBrilliance: Why does Matt have a habit (albeit not pronounced) of getting trapped on things or running into glitches? He used to work in QA, it was his job to find glitches.
* GoodBadBugs: Possibly due to their experience as quality assurance testers, the Friends just ''love'' running into any kind of bug, error or crash. On occasion, such as with their ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'' playthrough, they also recall memories of amusing bugs they ran into during their QA days.
* GrowingTheBeard: They seemed to grow the beard when Woolie and Liam became permanent members of the group.
** Or arguably when their full LP's and channel started to gain prominence over their Machinima episodes. The latter are still funnier because of the condensed time and the admittedly scripted jokes, but the team arguably grew the beard when their LP's, videos and podcasts started to become interconnected with jokes crossing over from each format.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Invoked with their Rustlemania-based look at the ''Hulk Hogan's Main Event'' Kinect title, which featured Matt loudly declaring '''[[RefugeInAudacity "MATT HATES BLACK PEOPLE!"]]'''; Fast forward two years, and the Hulkster has now been cast into the spotlight following a ''racist rant'' involving his daughter.
** In part 10 of their ''VideoGame/SilentHill2'' playthrough, it's mentioned that Konami won't allow complete creative and financial freedom to anyone except Creator/HideoKojima, so the pair have faith in ''VideoGame/SilentHills''...
** After the November Nintendo Direct came out featuring all characters from ''Super Smash Bros.'' (except Kirby) erased by Galeem's light beam, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC5eRSgzy-A a fan video]] parodying this came out, with Woolie and possibly Matt and Pat getting smitten. A month and a half later, the guys have decided to end the Super Best Friends brand, without ever having gotten to play that game on the channel.
** Pat and Woolie's ''Devil May Cry'' series had a RunningGag where the game they planned to do next finished installing in the last episode of the LP. The ''VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry'' LP, which didn't have the gag, turned out to be the last full LP on the channel.
** A lot of the {{Running Gag}} jabs taken at Woolie become less funny when he stated on ''WebVideo/WoolieVersus'' that he eventually got tired of them due to fans beating the proverbial dead horse and inundating him with them.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qrvi9FJ6-0I Super Best Friendcast Episode 115]] featured Mike Zaimont as a guest to hype Creator/LabZeroGames's ''VideoGame/{{Indivisible}}'', which was a fun moment due to the gang's CreatorWorship for him. It lost a lot of that fun after Pat's claims, in the wake of Lab Zero's shutdown and the cancellation of updates to ''Indivisible'' over Zaimont's alleged abusive behavior, that Zaimont behaved like a BitchInSheepsClothing off-camera and that the making of this episode caused Pat to resent him ever since.
** During the ''VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition'' playthrough, in part 14 Pat responds to Forrest's comments about "throwing a blonde in a bikini into a boy's locker room" with[[spoiler:"rape culture! Does Kaysen support rape culture?!" in a very offended tone.]] At the end of the game, [[spoiler:the actions of Forrest Kaysen]] make that statement and the offence taken seem rather prophetic.
** Similarly, Pat notes during their ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'' playthrough that Joel's insistence that they are "survivors," rather than "shitty people," is typically said in movies by REALLY shitty people. Later on in the game, we find out Joel has "been on both sides."
** In their podcast for January 12th of 2016, the Best Friends lament the then recent death of Creator/DavidBowie and the earlier passing of ''Music/{{Motorhead}}'''s Lemmy, citing that these things [[RuleOfThree come in threes]]; two days later, it was unfortunately announced that Creator/AlanRickman passed away.
** During their look at ''VideoGame/StreetFighterXMegaMan'', the group discussed how halfhearted it was that Capcom's only release to celebrate Mega Man's anniversary was to officiate a fan game, and debate on if they should be demanding more content or just be satisfied with what little effort Capcom ''did'' put into the game. Flash forward to 2016, when ''VideoGame/MightyNo9'' attempted to please Mega Man fans and was met with extreme bile. As with the Best Friends and the earlier game, this was justified with "It's better than nothing."
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwIfHYm67D8 One of the intros to the 2016 Shitstorm of Spookiness]] is a well done animated bit that ends with Liam [[DeadAllAlong vanishing into thin air in front of Matt]]. Just two months later, Liam announced that he would be leaving the channel for good due to mental health problems.
** The most last full LP Matt did was ''VideoGame/OmikronTheNomadSoul'', which was a terrible game that they had a running gag of claiming it was driving them insane (later episodes cutting the usual video bumpers for mad imagery); soon after its finale was uploaded Matt announced his hiatus for stress. Liam was playing through ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' as, according to Woolie and Matt, he hadn't suffered as much as the other members, so they wanted a game to break him; Liam would resign from the channel for mental health issues midway through (although he did say he'd finish the game).
** Their playthrough of ''VideoGame/TalesFromTheBorderlands'' was started just before news of Creator/TelltaleGames' closure. They comment on it once the recordings "catch up" with the news.
** It was once said on the Podcast that the original joke behind the channel was the fact that Matt and Pat weren't actually great friends at all, but during the recording of one of their first full playthroughs Pat came to the realization that they'd become friends after all. [[TearJerker Cut to nearly nine years later where the stress of the business side of the channel has caused the friendship the channel began to end.]]
** Likewise, there's a moment during the ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog'' Spindash Quick Look where Matt seems to express some genuine annoyance with Pat's (who isn't in the video) abrasive behavior, as well as the antagonistic manner in which he talks to people who enjoy games he doesn't personally like. Even though this was ''years'' before the actual end of their friendship, it's somewhat uncomfortable to listen to with the knowledge of what would ultimately happen to the channel.
** The Best Friends' constant potshots at ''The King Of Hate'' becomes somewhat less funny in light of the end of the Best Friends given that [=DarkSydePhil=] ends up outlasting them. A specific example is a podcast with Retsupurae with them joking that once [=DarkSydePhil's=] day has come and gone any one of them could be latched onto as the Internet's newest "villain."
** Any instances in which the gang critiqued David Cage and his consistent writing habits with female characters have become almost prophetic as of 2021, where Cage has made court appearances based on the treatment of female employees wherein he asked if he could lie and fled ''tearfully'' due to people critiquing his work; this follows a number of articles where he and other Quantic Dream staff were reported to have made some highly awkward and vulgar comments about women and female staff.
** In their Playthrough of ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'', they stand by their decision to massacre all of the surgical staff in the final level, thinking that Joel's anger was righteous. Cut to the sequel, and we find what happens after that...
** The constant jabs at Paul Walker in the ''Fast and Furious Showdown'' video quickly became awkward when Walker died in a car crash only months after the video was made.
* HePannedItNowHeSucks: To say that a lot of [=JoJo=] fans changed their opinion on Pat after his opinions in the ''All Star Battle'' review is...an understatement.
** Fans unsure of how serious Pat can be at times don't really care much for him liking to joke about some of Nintendo's financial troubles, with some feeling that the fact Pat didn't grow up playing Nintendo consoles makes him a bit biased against the company in general. Some even find it to be a bit disrespectful he still continued to make the jokes in spite of the passing of former Nintendo president Creator/SatoruIwata and the fact Iwata cutting his own pay in half helped the company regain profitability in 2015.
** ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' fans were not happy when Woolie revealed he dismissed ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans'' after only two episodes because he felt it was becoming just another ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED'' and criticizing the show for being "kiddy." Fans of the former agree that it's one of the darker settings Gundam has had, especially with a certain scene in the third episode. However, he was not incorrect in pointing out the relative lack of gray morality by displaying stereotypical villains and the inherently tropey nature of the work. Which is something Gundam SEED definitely did.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** While playing ''Prison Break'' Matt was afraid of going to jail and said he needed to learn about prison from the game. A few years later, the Two Best Friends Play Facebook implied Matt, Pat and Woolie were almost arrested with the ''VideoGame/AliensColonialMarines'' post showing really suspicious footage of the best friends. It later turns out that they were stopped by police when a person saw them sneaking around at night with (toy) guns, but thankfully nothing bad came of it.
** The ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' video has a moment where Leon is attacked by a snake, prompting Pat to comment "That's a badass snake, gonna [[GroinAttack bite your dick]]." Fast forward to the ''VideoGame/ManVsWild: [[TheProblemWithLicensedGames The Game]]'' video, where ''that is exactly what every snake in the game does''.
** When playing [[VideoGame/SoulSeries Soul Calibur V]], they comment how Cervantes looks a lot like [[Franchise/ResidentEvil Leon]]. One of Leon's alternate costumes in VideoGame/ResidentEvil6 is a pirate costume.
** In ''The Walking Dead'' Part 2 Pat says "And maybe you killed a Senator!" Matt adds "It was the one-armed man!" Now moving to the 14th part from ''VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance''...
** In the first part of their ''VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance'' Let's Play, they joke that they'll be going to space in the game. It does actually happen later on, albeit simply using a shuttle to get halfway around the world in a very short time period.
** In the video for ''Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring'', Pat responded to Woolie's NoblewomansLaugh by angrily saying that Karin from ''VideoGame/StreetFighterAlpha'' was never coming back. Three years later, ''VideoGame/StreetFighterV'' was released, and not only did it bring back Karin, but it also featured her as one of the main characters in its Story Mode.
** In their playthrough of F.E.A.R. 2 during the Shitstorm of Scariness, they make a comment about how the characters in the game's intro resemble the cast of the movie ''Alien'' and Matt makes a joke saying something along the lines of "wait until ''Aliens: Colonial Marines'' turns out to be not so great." Fast forward months later and said game is subject to multiple poor review scores and and considered one of the biggest gaming disappointments of early 2013. The kicker? Both games have the same lead designer.
** Matt saying that [[VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance Raiden]] was [[SarcasmMode "the true face of the Playstation"]] in the PSABR episode becomes a lot more ironic after Raiden has been confirmed to be playable in the Xbox One version of Ground Zeroes.
** In ''LEGO Marvel Super Heroes'', Matt jokes that Captain America [[MemeticBadass should not need a parachute to sky dive.]] Guess what Cap does within the first five minutes of ''Film/CaptainAmericaTheWinterSoldier''...
** In the ''VideoGame/SilentHill3'' video, Matt and Pat discuss what would happen if Creator/HideoKojima made ''Franchise/SilentHill''. [[VideoGame/SilentHills A new Silent Hill game has been announced,]] and it's being made by Hideo Kojima. Or at least, [[HarsherInHindsight it was.]]
** According to Pat, when Liam realized [[spoiler:they got the Bad Ending]] in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvilRevelations2'', his response was "What kind of ''idiot'' gets [[spoiler:the Bad Ending]]?" Either Liam is unaware of how [[spoiler:the Good ending]] is notoriously [[GuideDangIt counter intuitive]], or he was {{troll}}ing/rubbing Pat's failure in his face.
** In the first part of the playthrough of ''VideoGame/PredatorConcreteJungle'', Woolie ponders "Why does [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]] make it into ''VideoGame/{{Mortal Kombat|9}}'' and not a Franchise/{{Predator}}?" The very next MK game after that playthrough, ''VideoGame/MortalKombatX'', has a Predator as DLC.
** SBFC 013: Pat claims Masashi Kishimoto will ''die'' [[LongRunner before he finishes]] ''Manga/{{Naruto}}''. This episode came out in June of 2014. ''Naruto'' wrapped up about a year later (at least, manga-wise, as the anime is still ongoing).
** Late in the playthrough of ''VideoGame/BeyondTwoSouls'', Jodie is sent to the ocean floor in a diving suit to stumble around in dark, eerie waters. A short conversation springs up between the friends about how cool a horror game based almost entirely around that mechanic would be. [[{{VideoGame/SOMA}} Two years later...]]
** In the same game, they mention how exciting it would be to have Wendigos as a spiritual enemy to combat. They would eventually play a game that featured such a foe as the main adversary.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI9Zv_mTtxI The preview for Friendcast 119]] has Matt's figure of Guts from ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'' cry out "JUST GET ME OFF THIS FUCKING BOAT ALREADY!!!" in reference to the manga's ArcFatigue and ScheduleSlip at getting to Elfheim. When the video was posted, it had been nearly eight years since they got on the boat, but then they got off ''two weeks'' later.
** At the start of their ''Death Road To Canada'' video, Matt jokes about how the results of the 2016 US election may influence people to take said death road, with Woolie adding in a statement about Americans being "political tourists." Flash forward to Election Day, and the news of Donald Trump being the winner resulted in the Canadian immigration website crashing due to the high volume of people applying.
** One of the {{Running Gag}}s of the ''VideoGame/Yakuza4'' playthrough was Matt repeatedly shoehorning in references to ''Film/FaceOff'' to Pat's annoyance. Fastforward a few years to the playthrough of ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'', where one of the sidequests is basically the plot of ''Face/Off''. [[{{Squee}} Cue Matt's elation]].
** In their first ''[[VideoGame/StreetFighterIII Third Strike]]'' Fisticuffs, Pat says that there should be a Canadian ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' character. Come ''VideoGame/StreetFighterV'', and [[VideoGame/FinalFight Abagail]], a Canadian, winds up becoming a Season 2 DLC character.
** During their playthrough of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioOdyssey'', Matt early on makes a ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' joke before it was then announced to be ported over to the switch.
-->Matt: And then he linked the First Flame!
** ''VideoGame/GodOfWarPS4'' was released on the anniversary of the fireaxe incident. What's Kratos main weapon in that game? An axe he can throw and recall at will.
*** They even lampshade it in their LP of it.
** The MemeticMutation surrounding "[[VideoGame/StreetsOfRage Streets of Rage 4]] for the PSP" from the ''VideoGame/DongDongNeverDie'' Fisticuffs became infinitely more hilarious when an '''actual''' ''Street of Rage 4'' [[https://www.gamespot.com/articles/after-24-years-streets-of-rage-4-is-happening/1100-6461404/ was announced]] in 2018.
** During their playthrough of [[VideoGame/LANoire L.A. Noire]], they joke about Cole needing to eat the evidence he finds for safe keeping. They would later go on to play [[VideoGame/DetroitBecomeHuman Detroit: Become Human]], where ''[[Main/AndroidsAndDetectives Connor]] essentially does that''.
** Pat and Liam [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6UTrTSwES0 famously bet over]] whether ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarOnline2'' would ever come out to the West or not, with Pat confidently declaring it to be ''NEVER'' release in the West. Fastforward to E3 2019, in which it was finally announced that ''[=PSO2=]'' would be released for North America. Also cue Pat insisting that he did not lose the bet because the Western release of ''[=PSO2=]'' was limited to Xbox and PC, thus [[ExactWords technically not being out for]] ''[[ExactWords all]]'' [[ExactWords of North America]].
** The Chewie & Fuckface running gag on the Super Best Friendcast would eventually come alive for real as the ''Podcast/CastleSuperBeast'' podcast.
** As many have noted, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R8SyNZQaPg this conversation]] Liam describes about a coworker who proclaimed himself a loyal fan of the Three B's (Bethesda, Bioware, and Blizzard) in 2012, after all three companies were already considered past their primes, only continues to become funnier as they've all become embroiled in more and more controversies as time goes on.
** A RunningGag during the playthrough of ''VideoGame/SilentHillHomecoming'' was forgetting or confusing its title with ''VideoGame/SilentHillDownpour'' due to how generic it was, and accidentally calling it ''Downcoming'' or ''Downfall''. In 2022 a ''Silent Hill'' spinoff was announced with the title of ''Townfall'', causing Pat and Woolie to groan at the {{pun}} and remember this former bit.
* HoYay:
** Apparently Woolie and Liam call each other Big Papa and Saucy Liam respectively. Matt and Pat even joke that if Liam and Woolie were ever both asleep on the couch together, Pat could take a picture of the two and call it legally binding. Matt makes some HoYay comments, but it's generally played for laughs.
** Has increased significantly in later times. Still played for laughs and done so rather effectively.
** Pat's called Luke "dreamy" and "very attractive" in their ''Walking Dead: Season 2'' playthrough.
** And then we have the episode of ''VideoGame/{{Guacamelee}}'' where Woolie dresses Juan as himself and makes Liam play as his [[VideoGame/{{Persona 4}} waifu]].
** The cover image used for "Best Friend Play ''Sword of the Manga/{{Berserk}}'' was a [[http://the-switcher.deviantart.com/art/Alone-Together-26530615 fanart image]] Matt drew of [[OfficialCouple Guts and Casca]] kissing one another...[[http://superbestfriendsplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/berserk2-e1404506024190.jpg with their heads replaced by those of Matt and Liam]].
** The openings to Terminator Week Part #1 and Part#2 has to be seen to be believed.
** In their Super Mario 3D World episode, Pat complains that Matt [[BlackComedyRape stole his]] [[MakesSenseInContext cherry.]]
** When [[Creator/Suda51 Suda51]] announced ''{{VideoGame/Travis Strikes Again No More Heroes}}'', Matt declared on Twitter that he wanted to divorce his wife and marry Suda. [[https://twitter.com/MattMcMuscles/status/916721741770129408 He also wanted to make out hard with a life-sized statue of]] [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders Jotaro Kujo]].
** During Matt and Woolie's playthrough of ''VideoGame/NightInTheWoods'' , Woolie gives us this:
--> '''Woolie:''' Matt, how come you've never told me I have a hot bear ass?
* IKnewIt:
** Happened so much during the ''VideoGame/BeyondTwoSouls'' playthrough, that at several points Pat openly worried that the viewers would start calling bullshit because they were predicting the story with such accuracy they might as well have already played it.
** In the ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'' playthrough, Pat instantly guesses that Sarah won't make it out of the prologue, and that the watch she gives Joel will become a TragicKeepsake.
** In the ''VideoGame/GodOfWarPS4'', Pat quickly guesses the true identity of the Stranger, and the three also sarcastically predict major plot points, which turn out to be correct.
* JustHereForGodzilla:
** Some fans much prefer to watch their other videos (such as their full length [=LPs=]) on their secondary channel, rather than the main episodes on the Machinima channel.
** Also, Pat. Some fans find him more entertaining than Woolie and Liam due to his angry tantrums and expected to see him in a lot of bad games.
* MemeticBadass: Billy, the group's editor, arguably achieved this status upon turning [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyd9IbNoRLg Woolie's proverbial Gun against him.]]
* MemeticMutation:
** [[VideoGame/SilentHillDownpour "Hey guys, remember when Matt threw that axe?"]] [[note]]Matt accidentally threw a fire axe a bottomless pit. And it was one of the best weapons in the game, too. The others and the fanbase will ''[[NeverLiveItDown never]]'' [[NeverLiveItDown let him off for it]].[[/note]]
** "Kenpachi Ramasama" became a popular FanNickname for Yu Narukami after they used it for his name in their ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'' playthrough.
** Woolie's CatchPhrase of [[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3 WHEN'S MAHVEL?!]] became a popular SnowClone that spawned lots of spin-off phrases such as [[VideoGame/MarlowBriggsAndTheMaskOfDeath WHEN'S MARLOW?]]
** It's popular for fans to jokingly accuse the guys (especially Woolie) of "Marvel bias" due to the frequency with which they play Marvel games and their negative reviews of DC movies like ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' and ''Film/SuicideSquad2016'', mostly as a mockery of what they and the guys see as an overzealous FandomRivalry.
** The nebulous Woolie hole, Matt's nickname for Woolie's old apartment, spread into a nickname fans jokingly use to refer to any WretchedHive or CreepyCave they see.
** Woolie's gay fanfic[[labelnote:Explanation]]During their playthrough of ''Devil May Cry'', Woolie incorrectly recalls Dante and Vergil's first fight in the third game, believing they were {{shirtless|Scene}} for it. This led to a number of jokes about how Woolie is secretly writing his own [[IncestYayShipping Dante x Vergil fanfic]].[[/labelnote]]
** "I'm gonna be real with you."[[labelnote:Explanation]]In the wake of the Best Friends disbanding, shitposters on the group's Reddit have taken to editing the image of Woolie explaining that Pat and Matt are no longer friends, or replacing Pat and Matt's names with those of other people, and turning it into a meme which very much CrossesTheLineTwice.[[/labelnote]]
** Shitpost through the pain![[labelnote:Explanation]]When the Best Friends first announced their breakup many Redditors posted shitposts to "shitpost through the pain" they felt.[[/labelnote]]
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound:
** Pat's laughter. [[http://youtu.be/8ryeRwnFNRs Case]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixB-bXPmvEQ in point]].
*** What could be even better than Pat's laughter? ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRkjWmvP7GQ Drunk]]'' Pat's laughter.
** Or Matt's songs.
** Woolie speaking in a Jamaican accent.
** After their video on the first Smash Bros for Scrublords, "You didn't win! *You didn't win!* " has been a minor recurring statement on the channel whenever someone, in the game or among the group, escapes a fight before decisively losing or starts making excuses for their loss.
** Pat's ''Tour Guide Nixon'' voice, and the RoboSpeak Matt slips into while mocking characters with bad voice acting or writing.
** Pat's scared laughter is just as great. Also are his high pitched screams when he's scared.
* {{Narm}}: Woolie and Pat both agree that the sudden usage of a heavy metal song during the credits of ''VideoGame/TormentumDarkSorrow'' is something of a mood killer, though they both love the entire rest of the game for using art that looks like it'd be perfect as metal album covers.
* NeverLiveItDown:
** One time Woolie [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuL4IaCf4qM turned down a potential threesome so he could go pick up Marvel vs. Capcom 3]]. Matt and Pat never let it go. They went as far as to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAqnKIKmRAY make their own video]] to mock Woolie.
** Additionally, Woolie losing in the first round at EVO to Daigo gets brought up fairly frequently as well.
** Pat (and the rest of the fandom) enjoys bringing up the time Matt accidentally threw the best weapon in ''Silent Hill: Downpour'' away (i.e., into a bottomless pit).
** Several of the Shitstorm of Scariness videos has Matt still berating Pat for his timidity during the Slender Man video. Pat fully admits this and seemingly takes it in stride.
** Pat worries this will be the case when he mentions in the second part of their Mortal Kombat 9 viewing that Liu Kang and Kitana will eventually have a "[[ThatCameOutWrong really hot, cool baby]]." Cue Matt and Woolie making pedophile jokes and Pat lamenting that "People will make pictures! You can't do this to me!"
** A worry that is made HilariousInHindsight when one remembers that the ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' playthrough already featured Pat doing this, as he had earlier commented that Creator/LeonardoDiCaprio and Marion Cotillard would have "hot" kids, in contrast with Matt's thoughts that they would be "divine."
** Ever since their blind playthrough of ''Last of Us'', Pat has a hard time living down how this playthrough was less than ideal.
** Pat having a ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' desktop wallpaper in the Amnesia episode lead many fans to believe that Pat is a brony (the fact they hired 2 Snacks, who is a brony, to be one of their main animators after seeing his MLP themed "Two Best Sisters Play" parody only added fuel to the fire). Pat later clarified it was only a joke and he's not really a fan of the show, saying he just found it funny to imagine the "angry redhead" as a fan of something colorful and happy looking. Even so, fans and the rest of the zaibatsu still like to sometimes joke about this to Pat, with at least one mailbag video involving Pat opening a package containing MLP related items inside, and Pat saying "you make one joke in a video nearly three years ago and you never hear the end of it..."
** Pat's gotten a lot of this from his and Woolie's playthrough of ''Dark Souls II":
** Any LP that feels like it's dragging on too long or feels like the Zaibatsu don't know what they're doing has been called "the New Nuzlocke."
** Their infamous ''Fisticuffs'' video on ''Franchise/BlazBlue''.
** Woolie once said to them that ''Castlevania'' started at [[VideoGame/{{CastlevaniaSymphonyOfTheNight}} Symphony of the Night]] and they occasionally bring it up to mock him [[note]] Saying a franchise "starts" at a particular title is similar to saying that is when it began GrowingTheBeard and the titles before it aren't worth playing [[/note]]. Listen to an instance [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYc9TxfmaJA&feature=youtu.be&t=8m1s here]]. To quote [[https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/6gai1r/castlevania_started_at_symphony_of_the_night/dip347z Pat:]] "Woolie actually said this once un-ironically and we've been giving him shit over it since forever."
* NightmareFuel: [[NightmareFuel/TwoBestFriendsPlay Now has its own page.]]
* NightmareRetardant: Pat's reaction to seeing [[VideoGame/{{Slender}} Slender Man]] clipping into a wall.
* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer:
** Woolie's comment that a character from ''Anime/SailorMoon'' had sexual intercourse with an unicorn bothered a fan as noted by Matt in "Two Best Friends Play Heavy Rain Part 17." Although Matt stated it was actually just a kiss, Pat defended Woolie's statement as it happened offscreen.
** Matt mentions several silly and/or ridiculous ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' comic book stories with Pat. The episode then provides a caption referring to the issues the crazy story appeared in.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Pat is a lot more sedate in his work with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfOk8hzAgWA Did You]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p75oalRrA_Y Know Gaming]] and his list of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu4Q-9k8jAM Top 10 Games for 2012]]. Common reactions in the comments section include shock and fear. Rarer reactions include confused arousal.
* PlayAlongMeme:
** When Liam departed from the Best Friends Zaibatsu to focus on his own solo channel, he asked Best Friends-related sites (like the Facebook group and the subreddit) not to link to his solo videos. In addition, since Liam appeared in the intro for the Best Friends sub-series ''Saturday Morning Scrublords'', all future episodes had him edited out ([[StylisticSuck very awkwardly, for laughs]]). The fandom ran with that, pretending that Liam has been completely {{Unperson}}ed and can only be referred to as [Redacted] now.
** Matt and Pat loved talking about Woolie behind his back and inventing "lore" about him whenever he wasn't present for a video. Sometimes they'd take real events and exaggerate them into absurdity; other times they'd invent "facts" from scratch. The fandom took all of this as the gospel truth, interpreting Woolie as a compulsive liar, a habitual pie thief, and someone who killed a man while playing a high school football game.
* TheProblemWithLicensedGames:
** The entire SNES video demonstrates this.
** Inverted: In both the ''Film/PacificRim''-related videos, Matt says the ''Film/RealSteel'' licensed game was a surprisingly good boxing game, and the Best Friends seemed to enjoy the ''Pacific Rim'' licensed game as well.
* SeasonalRot: Towards the end of their channel, the Super Best Friends were having a number of [=LPs=] that didn't go over well. And it was becoming more and more clear that there was indeed backstage drama and a lack of communication between the members of the group.
* ScrappyMechanic: Pat confessed in the animated shorts he dislikes escort missions.
* SoBadItsGood:
** Some fans apparently couldn't tell whether Matt and Pat liked ''VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition'' or not, so Pat addressed the point in a video: in short, the game is full of "stupid bullshit", but it's ''enormously entertaining'' bullshit. He compares playing the game to being on the receiving end of a borderline abusive relationship.
** Pat still doesn't know whether he enjoys playing ''Deadly Premontion'' or ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'' more.
** Whenever they discuss recording material for the ''Last of Us'', they both agree they'd rather be playing ''DP''.
* SpoiledByTheFormat: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] near the end of the ''VideoGame/DefJamFightForNY'' Super Best Friends Brawl.
* [[ComplacentGamingSyndrome That Damn Ken]]: Seen in the ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'' video:
-->'''Pat''': What is with the Ken brigade?
-->'''Matt''': What do you mean "what is ''with'' it"? It's always BEEN THERE!
* StrangledByTheRedString: The main criticism of their Telltale Batman: Enemy Within LP is that Matt and Woolie put a little too much focus on Bruce's HoYay-heavy friendship with John at the expense of other character relationships, like Selina and Alfred, fall to the wayside.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** In spite of many Creator/Suda51 games receiving a full LP on the channel, ''VideoGame/{{killer7}}'' only has a single video as part of the ''Shitstorm of Scariness'', and many of the comments on the video agree that it should have become a full series.
** To end off Mecha Week II the gang decided to finally let Pat play ''VideoGame/{{Xenogears}}'' after years of talking about how much he loves this game. After the video people were disappointed that it was only a one off that was more or less just Liam and Woolie constantly shitting on Pat by comparing it to its spiritual successors and reminding him that this will never get a full LP. People who have beaten the game commented that they wished they did a full series just to see the others' reactions, while those who haven't were genuinely interested in what this game was considering Pat's constant references to later plot points that [[ItMakesSenseInContext only really make sense if you've at least played a majority of the game]].
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: Sometimes the Zaibatsu's attempts at creating character that run on ComedicSociopathy fall flat on their asses and cause the audience to instead stop watching the adventures of a completely unlikable character. A prime example of this is Nevara "Pockets" Chaar from the KOTOR LP, whose fall to the Dark Side was less a fall and more a straight up ''belly flop''.
* VocalDissonance: A lot of viewers were surprised by what Matt looks like when they saw his face for the first time. Matt even addresses this in the "Matt's Bombass Apartment Tour" video.
* WatchItForTheMeme: In the ''{{VideoGame/Yakuza 0}}'' playthrough, Matt and Pat pick a particular option in one of Majima's sidequests just to see a scene that had been [[https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/zfnolwh2zkvtsrrpbnj7.gif immortalized in a .gif]] captioned with, "When your Tweet's fire and no one notices."
** In a fan example, many fans checked out ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' just to understand what the heck the Super Best Friends were talking about when they constantly referenced it, and became fans themselves.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotPolitical:
** Matt thinks ''VideoGame/EarthDefenseForce2017'' is Japan's commentary on the Iraq War.
** During their ''VideoGame/{{Slender}}'' video, Pat muses on whether the Slender Man could be an allegory for the Internal Revenue Service.
