Context YMMV / TitanicTheLegendGoesOn

Go To

* AluminiumChristmasTrees: The use of the word "legend" in the title, combined with the ridiculous LighterAndSofter treatment of a tragedy, has led to speculation that the producers may have thought that the ''Titanic'' story is fiction. This might be more of a BlindIdiotTranslation problem, though, since the Italian word ''leggenda'' can mean "legend" in the sense of "tale passed down from previous generations." Not that it excuses the rapping dog and the mice wearing sombreros, of course.
* AudienceAlienatingPremise: A comical, light-hearted kids' romp based off one of the most notorious and deadliest maritime disasters in history isn't exactly the most comfortable one to sit through.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** The song "Holding Me" (sung by Liz Callaway) is actually quite beautiful.
** "Lost in Each Other" from the original version is also a pretty good song.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** One of the mouse family is rescued by a dog, who then suddenly starts rapping for no apparent reason. Perhaps the most inexplicable scene in a film full of them, it's never mentioned again afterward, except when the chihuahua mentions being hit with a "food item."
** It's slightly less of this in the uncut version, in which the dog introduces himself as the one in charge of the animals and gently scolds the mouse before rapping. The rap itself is also completely different, and basically is the dog telling the other animals that they're having a party, so they need to steal food. Still, no one brings up the fact that it was a ''rap out of nowhere''. In '''1912'''.
* BileFascination: To the point that those who haven't seen it question whether or not the movie actually exists or is just a silly web video made by an amateur.
* BrokenBase: Which version is more laughably enjoyable to watch, the uncut or recut version? The recut has "Party Time" going for it, but the editing sometimes makes it a lot harder to follow (see SpecialEffectsFailure). It also doesn't have any of the repeating dialogue issues which removes some of the {{Narm}}. Of course, both are hilariously enjoyable to watch to most people anyway, but which one hits the SoBadItsGood territory better is a subject for debate.
* ClicheStorm: Talking animal characters, an antagonist with incompetent henchmen, a girl with an [[WickedStepmother evil stepfamily]], LoveAtFirstSight, {{Disneyfication}} gone mad, and more come together to provide the perfect menu of "animated kids' movie clichés."
* CommonKnowledge: This is usually brought up as a version of the Titanic where EverybodyLives. While most of the main cast do survive and [[AngstWhatAngst seem to disregard the traumatic incident they've been through]], there are still casualties regarding the sinking, one being Molly, a for-the-most-part established character. This may be partly the result of conflating this movie with ''[[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfTheTitanic another]]'' Italian animated movie about the Titanic with a very similar name.
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** The entire "Party Time" sequence becomes this when you realize the historical tragedy that serves as the backdrop to this number. That said, given the nature of the rest of the movie, it's impossible not to have fun with how absurd it is. See NarmCharm below.
** [[EvilIsPetty Angelica's step sister]] intentionally breaks fine china just so she'll clean it up. For the most part the evil step family are rather boring villains, but that introduction is so over the top that it's actually quite funny.
* DesignatedVillain:
** Gaston is a bit slimy and dumb, but there's the fact that he's treated like a jewel thief when the worst he did was pick Angelica's locket up off of the ground and give it to a girl he was wooing. He never actually stole anything. Then again, the fact he didn't take the necklace to the Lost and Found section might make some people consider him just as bad as a thief.
** Tiger is treated like a villain for being Corynthia's pet and "looking like a bat."
* EnsembleDarkhorse: The rapping dog (Fritz) is probably the biggest reason people even know about this movie, easily being the most (and quite possibly only) memorable thing in it, and for all the wrong reasons.
* EsotericHappyEnding: The chipper WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue makes absolutely no mention of the tragic loss of life during the ship's sinking.
* EthnicScrappy: The Mexican mice, who all speak in stereotypical broad accents, wear Mariachi clothes and play generic Mariachi music. Any personality formed beyond that might as well be nonexistant.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'''s TV Funhouse segment had their own wacky animated version of Titanic called ''Titey'' which of course is also a musical and rather Disney-like. Their ship was sentient as was the iceberg that sank it. And they both get into a swordfight too.
** Some who have seen the Film comment that the Dog who resembles Lady, from ''WesternAnimation/LadyAndTheTramp'', sounds a lot like Creator/SamElliott. Elliot would later provide the voice of Trusty in [[Film/LadyAndTheTramp2019 the live-action remake]] of ''Lady and the Tramp''.
** In probably one of the most ''bizarre'' coincidences ever, Camillo Teti, the director of the movie, would then go on to be a producer on ''WesternAnimation/ElArca'', another ''infamous'' animated movie about a famous (albeit fictional in this case, thankfully) ship where the focus is on talking animals.
* HoYay: Both of the Dalmatians are modeled after Pongo, the male dog from ''WesternAnimation/OneHundredAndOneDalmatians''. That, combined with both of them sounding rather masculine, makes one wonder if maybe the puppies seen in the ending were just adopted (only in the uncut version does it specify that the red-collared one is female; her name is Kate).
* JustHereForGodzilla: Viewers watch this film because there is a rapping dog and the reviews by WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic and WebVideo/JonTron.
* MemeticMolester: The male love interest gives off some very rapey vibes, most famously picked up by [=JonTron=].
* MemeticMutation:
** "(INSERT REAL-LIFE EVENT HERE): The Legend Goes On."
** IT'S PARTY TIME.[[note]]An over-the-top rap sequence, noted for being misplaced in a film about a tragic historical event.[[/note]]
** "If it hadn't been for you I would be now in [[{{Engrish}} someone else's digestion!]]"
*** ”You know there’s something you should know, so I’m gonna tell you so! Don’t sweat it! Forget it! Enjoy the show!”
** This movie's very fictionalized (and arguably somewhat flippant) take on the actual events of the ''Titanic'' sinking, along with the existence of ''another'' Italian animated movie that gives the tragedy a similar treatment, has led to quite a few jokes alleging that [[EskimosArentReal Italians believe the events were made up]].
* {{Narm}}:
** A dog raps. ''In a Titanic movie!''
** Preceding this and counting on its own is the incredibly broken English listed under MemeticMutation.
** One of the heroine’s evil stepsisters shows her villainy by… Purposely dropping and breaking a cup to make her clean it up, of which’s exactly what the mother demands the heroine to do. That’s less evil and more over-the-top stupidity.
** Molly still singing as the ship goes down was very likely meant to be her [[FaceDeathWithDignity Facing Death With Dignity]], implicitly based on the orchestra choosing to go down with one final song during the actual incident, but the pacing and posing makes it look more like she's just [[TooDumbToLive oblivious to what's going on around her]].
* NarmCharm: "Party Time"'s sheer dumbness can be weirdly infectious. Few, if any would call it a good scene, but it's certainly more watchable than everything else here.
* OlderThanTheyThink: ''Far'' more people are aware of the ReCut than the original version of the movie, due to it being the one that WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic and WebVideo/JonTron reviewed. This is particularly evident with "Party Time" being the musical number most people talk about, when the original uncut version had a completely different soundtrack with different songs.
* {{Padding}}: In the edited version, the closing credits drag on for nearly ''fourteen minutes'', which is accomplished by interspersing them with clips of the movie's song sequences. By contrast, the credits run only two minutes in the uncut version.
* SignatureScene: "Party Time", for being such a BigLippedAlligatorMoment and the fact that it features a rapping dog [[AnachronismStew when the movie is supposed to take place during 1912]].
* SoBadItWasBetter: More people are familiar with the ReCut version of the movie, which features the infamous "Party Time" rap song. The original uncut version had a different rap that, while still bad, is far less overblown and out-of-nowhere than "Party Time"; while it still feels out of place, the lyrics are hardly even intelligible and the pace and energy of the song matches the tone of the rest of the movie a bit better (and there is an actual segue into the song, as opposed to just having a dog show up out of nowhere and immediately start rapping for no apparent reason). Even though the uncut version came first, more contemporary viewers were introduced to the ReCut that had a completely different score and far more people will point to "Party Time" as the movie's SignatureScene as it hits SoBadItsGood territory, where the original rap is relatively unknown.
* SoBadItsGood:
** It's made the top of several "worst movies ever" lists. Whether it's so soul-taintingly bad that you can't bear it or whether it's so soul-taintingly bad it's a joy to mock is a matter of personal opinion.
** The rapping dog; it's so random and so stupid that it's funny.
* SpecialEffectsFailure:
** The lifeboats don't appear to have any ropes attached to them, so during the sinking scene they simply "hover" down the side of the ship into the water.
** The long shots of the ship show all four funnels smoking... despite the fact that only three of the funnels actually did smoke (The fourth was added to the design for decoration, and was used to provide ventilation for the boiler rooms).
** It's really, really obvious that the infamous "PARTY TIME" sequence was added in later on. Not only is the animation of the dog dancing visibly different from the rest of the movie, but the first verse of the song is very clearly meant to be the dog talking normally (...which indeed was the intention; this was the case in the uncut version, but the ReCut completely removed any form of segue into the rap). There's also [[StockFootage about ten seconds worth of animation,]] repeated again and again over the course of about ninety, due to the ReCut's sloppy editing. Even if you're watching the original though, it's still obvious this is the case due to the AnimationBump.
** In general, the ReCut version has ''horrible'' editing. The original version of the movie had a lot of {{Padding}} that the re-cut was nice enough to axe, but a lot of times they forgot to fix the pacing in the process. This leads to scenes that jump around all over the place, out-of-nowhere jump cuts, StockFootage being run in scenes that have nothing to do with anything (for instance, the rap randomly cuts to the kitchen scene in the middle of the song for no reason at all), and all sorts of other issues. It's pretty hard to tell if these cuts make the movie harder or easier to watch.
* StrangledByTheRedString:
** Our hero and heroine exchange three whole sentences before deciding they're meant to be.
** In the epilogue, the wicked stepsisters (Gertrude's daughters) have married Kirk and Dirk. Not only did the pairs have no relationship prior to this, but they never actually interacted at all. It's clearly meant as some sort of punishment, as if the prospect of dying lonely and alone because you're a douche isn't enough of a punishment.
* TearJerker:
** Oddly enough, the uncut version does have one attempted emotional moment that almost works, when Winnie (the GoldDigger) and [=McFlannel=] (the banker) come clean about their respective lies as the ship is going down and resolve to [[TogetherInDeath stay together rather than escape on the lifeboats]], deciding that though they have nothing of monetary value, they at least have each other.
** A smaller one in the same scene, but as Molly is singing on the boat, going down with the ship alongside the rest of the band, they cut to her dalmatians, both crying as they realize their owner isn't going to make it.
* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: Most of the characters are just blatant [[CaptainErsatz clones]] of popular Creator/{{Disney}} and Creator/DonBluth characters (most noticeably [[WesternAnimation/{{Cinderella}} Lady Tremaine]], WesternAnimation/{{Anastasia}}, [[WesternAnimation/AnAmericanTail the Mousekewitz family]], [[WesternAnimation/OneHundredAndOneDalmatians Pongo, and Perdita]]).
* ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: This is Creator/DonBluth, Creator/{{Disney}}, and WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes on cocaine followed by a ton of Pepsi, and it all takes place on the Titanic.
* WatchItForTheMeme: Once again, Party Time.
