* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: The backgrounds are lush, detailed and gorgeous, especially any panoramic shot of the Evergreen Forest.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: So much so that [[AwesomeMusic/TheRaccoons it warrants its own page.]]
* BaseBreakingCharacter: People either can't stand Sophia for how overdramatic and silly she is, or they like her for being sweet and cute and being a great deal more sensible and assertive than Cedric.
* BizarroEpisode: "Time Trap!" - The Pigs bought a time machine somehow. Downplayed in that the time machine blew up upon being turned on, and that Cyril's adventure turned out to be nothing more than a [[AllJustADream dream]]. But the Pigs still bought a rather sophisticated-looking machine, even if it was just a scam. There's also the fact that during Cyril's dream, T.O.M. tells him about the Pigs' attempt to produce more gold during the "Gold Rush!" sequence, an event that Cyril had zero prior knowledge of. In other words, Cyril learned about something that was true just by ''dreaming'' about it.
* BootstrappedTheme: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouPYQlhempw Run With Us]]" has become this for the franchise. [[AwesomeMusic/TheRaccoons Not that we're complaining...]]
* CrossesTheLineTwice: When Cyril celebrates the seeming departure of most of the cast in "Opportunity Knocks!", Cedric comments, "I haven't seen him like this since he evicted Grandma."
* CoveredUp: Lisa Lougheed managed to do this to much of the show's soundtrack.
* CultClassic: The series has a rather small yet incredibly passionate fanbase.
* {{Fanon}}: The names of the three Pigs. Fans often use the names Lloyd (Pig 1), Floyd (Pig 2) and Boyd (Pig 3). [[WordOfGod Kevin Gillis]] says that their names are Lloyd, Lloyd and Floyd. However, on the show itself, each of the three is, at some point, referred to by name by one of the two others as Lloyd (meaning that ''all three'' are hypothetically named Lloyd).
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff:
** Germany loves the show to the point where the whole series, including specials, has been released on DVD... [[NoExportForYou with only a German audio track.]]
** The UK, Ireland and Russia loved it too, where it managed to pull in 7 million viewers per episode in the UK alone. For comparison, that's about ''20% of the UK's late 80s population''.
*** After the series ended in 1992, Creator/{{CBBC}} kept airing it in reruns for ''12 years''. You read that right, this series that originally aired in 1985 was a CBBC mainstay until '''2004'''.
* GrowingTheBeard: The series gradually shifted from clichéd plots and characters in the early seasons to much better writing in the later ones that had real soul and originality and took creative dares, especially for a 1980s cartoon series. The only problem was that they never changed the opening sequence, so the intro still portrayed Cyril as evil and Bert as a cartoonish klutz.
* HarsherInHindsight: Anytime Cyril Sneer smoked his cigar became a lot harder to watch after his voice actor died of lung cancer.
** Even worse is Cyril being found unconscious in his office in the series finale.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** The song "Shining" from ''The Raccoons and the Lost Star'' contains the lyric [[WesternAnimation/AnAmericanTail "Somewhere out there..."]]
** Ralph's brother and sister-in-law are called George and Nicole. This was a while before ''VideoGame/BrokenSword'' was developed.
** In ''The Artful Dodger!'', Ralph is seen putting on a ridiculous French accent whenever he tries his hand at cooking. Then in ''Moving In!'', it's revealed that Ralph's sister-in-law Nicole speaks with a proper French accent.
** A lot of fans notice that Sophia Tutu bears an almost creepy resemblance to Music/KatyPerry.
* MoralEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Milton Midas being responsible for the contaminated water hole in "The One That Got Away".]]
* {{Narm}}: The series has its fair share of Narm moments, some of which could arguably count as NarmCharm:
** In the episode "Moving In," Lisa, unable to cope with moving away from her old neighbourhood, lashes out at her parents and lets her {{Wangst}} out in front of everyone at the dinner table.
---> "I have no friends anymore, I miss my school, I hate this house! [...] Nobody cares what ''I'' think! None of this would have happened if you hadn't lost your job!"
** Not to mention her mother's reaction, especially with her thick French accent.
---> "Leeza!"
** The early specials are not much better:
** In ''The Raccoons on Ice'', there's the entire scene where the Raccoons and Sophia Tutu sneak into Cyril Sneer's mansion to try to convince Cedric to play on their team against Cyril's. A particular highlight: When Cedric (who has a different, incredibly whiny voice in the specials) worries about getting into further trouble with his father, he whines, "I've already been grounded for a month...''and no chocolate pudding!!!''" The Narm factor is upped by Sophia's response:
---> "Cedric, this is ''bigger'' than ''chocolate pudding!''"
*** At the end of that scene, when Cedric chickens out after being threatened by Cyril again, Sophia responds by apparently dumping him on the spot, exclaiming "Cedric Sneer, your heart is as cold and hard as a hockey puck!" and taking away the picture of her on Cedric's nightstand. The delivery of the line, and Cedric's whiny sobbing afterward, make it pure Narm.
** In ''The Raccoons and the Lost Star'', any time Sophia Tutu opens her mouth is potential Narm. For example, whenever Sophia says something like "Oh no, how dreadful!" or "That's terrible!" in a moment meant to be sad....
*** When Cyril Sneer ambushes Cedric and Sophia to kidnap Sophia's puppy Broo and get his hands on the lost star, Sophia believes that Cedric led her into the trap (which he didn't know about) and returns his gift of chocolates, saying in the Narmiest way imaginable, "I'll never be able to look at a chocolate again!"
*** The scene where bad guys take Broo away from Sophia, and Cyril gets his hands on the star. Overly dramatic music plays; Sophia tearfully exclaims, "You leave Broo alone, you ''bullies!''"; we see a menacingly grinning bear henchman from Broo's P.O.V., reaching for him, his shadow cast over Broo; and finally, Cyril taking the star from around Broo's neck and exclaiming "My star! At last!" as the music reaches crescendo. The whole bit is overly (melo)dramatic and instant Narm.
*** Sophia tells Cyril, "You're a beastly, horrible... BEAST!" She's got more of a spine than Cedric, but not much of an imagination when it comes to insults.
*** Dottie West's casting as Melissa. She sounds like the Mother Rabbit from Disney's ''WesternAnimation/RobinHood1973''.
* NoExportForYou: The show is fairly obscure in the US -- unless you lived in an area near the Canadian border (and therefore could watch the CBC broadcasts), the only way to see the show was on Creator/DisneyChannel, which at that point was a pay service akin to Creator/{{HBO}} or Creator/{{Showtime}} that wasn't carried by every cable system. The only place it reran after was on [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trio_(TV_network) Trio]], a now-defunct channel that was part-owned by the CBC and carried some of their programming.
* OneSceneWonder: This show was full of characters that appear only during one episode and never to be shown again, but sometimes the plot they bring could be quite significative and touching, even serving for CharacterDevelopment for someone from the main cast.
* PopularWithFurries: The series is one of the more well-known {{closet key}}s into the fandom, especially amongst people who watched it as kids.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Donna, a one-off character from the episode "Join the Club!", is voiced by Creator/TaraStrong (credited as Tara Charendoff) in one of her earlier roles, before shows like ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'' and ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'' made her popular.
* {{Shipping}}: Bert and Lisa.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Cyril in "The Raccoons: Let's Dance!". He just wants to sleep, but Bert is [=DJing=] a loud dance party nearby in the middle of the night. To make things worse, the party is syphoning power from Sneer Mansion ''without Cyril's permission''. Cyril had every right to pull the plug on the party. The fact that the party continues with an alternate power source doesn't make things any better. Downplayed in that the whole thing was implied to be a dream that Schaeffer had.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece:
** Cyril is sometimes seen with his cigar in places that have since banned smoking, such as prison or the hospital.
** In "Making the Grade!", Bentley sets up a computer for Miss Primrose, as she was unfamiliar with computers herself and could never get it working on her own. While it wasn't too unusual for an older person to be unfamiliar with using a computer back in the 1980s, the idea of a teacher who knows nothing about computers would be practically unheard of nowadays.
* ValuesDissonance:
** "Join the Club" was rated TV-PG in the United States due to its depiction of smoking but retained the series' 'C' rating (equivalent to TV-Y) in Canada.
** On that note, Cyril, who's constantly seen with a [[CigarChomper cigar in his mouth]], would never be allowed to do so nowadays; the upcoming reboot will no longer portray him as a smoker.
** At the end of "The Prism of Zenda!", Cyril can be seen with a cigar in his mouth... ''in prison''. Smoking has been banned in Canadian prisons since 2008.
** Cyril is also seen with a cigar ''in a hospital'' in "Stress Test!" and "Go for Gold!". No modern hospital would ever allow smoking.
** Ralph mentions in "The Sky's the Limit!" that he met Melissa when he accidentally spilled coffee on her, and it's implied that this happened when they were children. In Canada, coffee is considered an "all ages" drink, but the thought of kids drinking coffee regularly could raise eyebrows elsewhere.
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The glider scene in the first special looked spectacular for the early 80s, and holds up today.
