* {{Adorkable}}: Michael is really cute and sweet...and he ''loves'' calculus.
-->'''Michael''': Derivatives are ''awesome''.
* EliminationHoudini:
** Many people felt this way about Alex, who was in the bottom three more than any other character (four weeks in a row), and complain that his CampGay diva personality and vocal range are [[AuthorAppeal the only reason]] Ryan kept them around.
** By that same metric Damian applies as well, tying with Alex at 4 weeks in the bottom. However unlike Alex, Damian actually ''was'' eliminated but saved because Cameron decided to quit that same episode.
** In Season 2 Michael and Lily got a lot of flack for outlasting generally more popular contenders Nellie, Abraham, and Harper. Michael was told ''several'' times that he deserved to be eliminated, but they still gave him more chances.
** Tyler who was in the bottom three times before finally getting eliminated, and seemed to only stay because Ryan said they could be a role model.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Zach Woodlee, the choreographer, for being the nicest judge and even calling Ryan Murphy out a few times.
* HarsherInHindsight: [[https://www.insider.com/the-glee-project-behind-the-scenes-cast-interviews-oral-history-2022-8 Interviews]] with former contestants from several years after the show cast two key moments involving Lindsay in a new light.
** First she got a lot of flack during "Vulnerability" week for claiming her flaw was being considered fake because she's "too pretty". But what went to air was a very chopped up confession about her own sexual assault and how it made her feel like she "wasn't a person--just a body and a nice face."
** The infamous kiss between Lindsay and Cameron was something Erik White pressured her to do, and she regretted it immediately, outright calling it manipulation.
-->'''Lindsay:''' I've never been so hated in my life. It's not easy for a 20-year-old to be called a sexual assailant, a sexual predator, an abuser — all because of the music-video kiss. Eleven years later, I still get hate mail sent to the theaters I work at and [=DMs=] telling me to kill myself. It's easy to think, "Well, you knew what you signed up for," but we were children. We all signed this contract but had no idea what that fine print actually meant.
** Those same interviews in general can give the whole show a less cheerful vibe. While most of the interviewees are willing to give praise where they can, they don't hold back on how hard the production was on them as children and that they really didn't know what they were signing up for.
-->'''Abraham:''' I don't know if I would've started acting if it weren't for ''The Glee Project''. I'm grateful, but there's a difference between gratitude and being indebted. \
'''Lindsay:''' It's a dangerous thing to say, "Well, you wouldn't have the career you have." Yeah, maybe not. But I also wouldn't be as wounded as I am today.
** In the "Vulnerability" episode from season two, Blake plays a bully during the music video. The directors laud him for looking like he's actually bullying and hurting Michael...which can sound pretty grim in light of the abuse allegations against Blake later in his career.
* HilariousInHindsight: The Ho Yay entry below for Damian and Matheus is this now that Matheus is openly queer.
** Matheus and Alex getting paired up for a homework assignment is rife with this, specially a line from Samuel
--> '''Samuel:''' Matheus think of this, you're going to be gay for a day.
* HoYay: Damian and Matheus when they did their performance of "These Boots are Made for Walkin'".
-->Ryan Murphy: That song is about adultery, so I was just trying to figure out who cheated on who...
** Damian and Cameron, who hugged constantly and moved in together for a time after the show.
* MemeticMutation: Whenever a popular contestant is eliminated, fans tend to react with a gif of a clip from the first season.
-->'''Ryan''': Am I wrong?\
'''Zach''': Wha...I...yes.
* MisBlamed: Cameron was often mocked for "auditioning for a show where teens kiss and not wanting to kiss anyone" and then quitting because of his religious values. However he's made it clear in [[https://www.insider.com/glee-project-kiss-traumatic-bullying-lindsay-pearce-cameron-mitchell-interview-2022-8 later interviews]] that his discomfort was partly because he was in a committed relationship, and partly because he had no forewarning for the kiss. After expressing his concerns, Cameron noticed that the producers starting going out of their way to try and push that button for him, culminating him Erik pressuring him to kiss Hannah in a later video. The editing, of course, made it look like he backed out over small issues.
* {{Narm}}: Blake's poem in the Season 2 finale expressing how much he hopes to get on the show is incredibly cheesy--though considering what show he was on, some people considered it [[NarmCharm just cheesy enough]].
* NightmareFuel : The one-take gym class from hell in Season 2's "Tenacity episode." Anyone who hated gym in high school will relate. Thirty-four takes!
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Invoked by guest judge Darren Criss in "Pairability" with Matalex (Matheus and Alex), leading to the contenders coming up with their own couple names some of which are also now used by fans when ActorShipping.
** Season 1 examples include Dameron (the bromance of Cameron and Damian and the most known shipname to come from the show), Damsay (Damian/Lindsay), Marissam (Marissa/Samuel), Camsay (Cameron/Lindsay), Dannah (Damian/Hannah), Samsay (Samuel/Lindsay), and Camrissa (Cameron/Marissa).
** Season 2 had Chaylin/Charlin (Charlie/Aylin), Michellie (Michael/Nellie), Blellie (Blake/Nellie), Blichael (Blake/Michael), Blanna (Blake/Harper), and Shaylin (Harper/Aylin)[[note]]Harper Grae went by her birth name Shanna Henderson during the show[[/note]].
* RealPersonShipping: Any shipping involved is this by default since it's, you know, a reality show.
** Since Hannah herself expressed interest in Damian during the show, Dannah started gaining steam since the airing of the Sexuality episode.
** Samsay became popular after "Glee-ality" and their epic running-jump hug.
** A huge number of viewers for season 2 hoped that Michael and Nellie would get together, and those who didn't probably hoped she'd be paired with Blake.
** Charlie and Aylin had an actual romance on the show, so naturally a lot of viewers supported it.
** Just look at the PortmanteauCoupleName entry above; pretty much any combination of those was supported by some fans at one point or another.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Abraham is Kenji from ''Series/TheBoys''
* TheScrappy: Could naturally apply to any of the contestants depending on who you ask.
** Lindsay became one due to her similarities to Rachel[=/=]Creator/LeaMichele and perceived arrogant attitude. While opinion of her has gotten better over time thanks to her opening up about how hard it was to be on the show, she unfortunately still receives hate mail from salty fans.
** Emily also got flack for her perceived ItsAllAboutMe Attitude.
** A lot of people found Alex annoying as well.
* ShockingElimination: Fans are ''still'' unhappy with the eliminations of Marissa and Hannah in season 1, and Nellie and Harper in season 2, as all four had been both judge and fan favorites.
** Marissa was eliminated her first time in the bottom (the same week she had won her first homework assignment), which came as an icy shock to fans who saw Marissa as the front runner.
** Hannah was eliminated her second time in the bottom, which was shocking considering multiple other contenders had been singled out as being weak actors while Hannah had ''won'' the homework assignment that week (just like Marissa had in hers).
** Despite her discomfort at being pressured to be more sexual, Nellie was steadily growing and getting better during her time on the show, and her cover of [[Music/{{Beyonce}} "If I Were A Boy"]] is often cited as one of ''the'' best songs to come out of this show. She was still eliminated the next week because, once again, she couldn't act sexually enough.
** Harper was a front runner for most of her season, having never placed in the bottom and only coming close once. Then she faltered in "Romanticality" (another week where there were several more obvious choices) and was eliminated to the shock of many.
* TearJerker: The final performance each week, where the eliminated contestant gets to solo on "Keep Holding On".
** The entire "Mad World" [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIMNVHfYudE video]], and "Vulnerability" week in general. The shots of each contestant with their sign are just so visceral.
*** Marissa changing her sign during the video shoot for "Mad World" from "flawed" to [[spoiler: "anorexic"]].
*** Alex breaking down during "Vulnerability" week, telling Nikki about his deceased father.
*** Emily talking about being sexually harassed by music producers before coming on to the show.
*** A retroactive one is finding out that Lindsay's initial vulnerability was also about being sexually assaulted, but she was pressured to change it to feeling "fake" because of her pretty looks - and then Nikki and the other judges shamed her for not being Vulnerable enough.
** Abraham crying during Tyler's solo of "Keep Holding On".
** In some ways, Charlie's desperate plea to Ryan to give Aylin a chance by picking her as the winner, saying that she and what she represents could give hope to the Muslim community after years of bigotry. Happy tears because he's clearly passionate about it beyond Aylin being his showmance, and sad tears when she still doesn't win (or even get a cameo in the season like Ali did).
* UnexpectedCharacter: Not for this show, but Marissa appeared on an episode of ''Catfish'', of all things, directly because of her elimination. Fans were so incensed over her getting booted that several Facebook pages were created demanding she be put on Glee, which snowballed into a fan catfishing people as her.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: Many people have thought Alex was a girl when he sings due to his voice. Not helped by the fact that he looks amazing in drag, went on to play a trans character in the show, and seems fairly genderfluid these days.
