* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Some examples are discussed on the [[Characters/TheAnnotatedSeries characters page]].
** ''Street Fighter'':
*** The man in the black and red jumpsuit from episode 3 is ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}.
*** Sagat is a BoisterousWeakling who's obsessed with cornflakes.
*** Guile is a hyper-patriotic PoliticallyIncorrectHero who constantly insults the rest of the heroes.
** The young man in "Annotated Daydream" as [[ViewerGenderConfusion a woman]], making it a music video about a same-sex relationship. Also the drummer/lead singer as a laboratory escapee from an experiment to combine the DNA of Music/JustinBieber and Phil Collins.
** ''Captain N'':
*** Simon Belmont as a "[[EccentricMentor stealth]] [[TricksterMentor mentor]]", happy to hang back and allow the heroes to deal with the situation so they can learn from the experience, as his own input would solve the problem too soon.
*** The genie in the magic lamp from an early episode as a "guest annotator" due to his endless snark.
*** King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard as a couple. The Annotators are pretty convinced the writers intended it though.
*** Kevin is really a young psychopath, what with staying in Video Land over the petty fate of having to clean his room if he returns home. Along with blowing stuff up for attention. Simon tries to curb his nastier tendencies and set him on a better path.
** ''Sonic Underground'':
*** The Oracle of Delphius is actually the true villain of the show, being TheChessmaster [[PlayingBothSides playing Robotnik and the resistance off each other]], planning to finish off whoever is left in the end. [[labelnote:Explanation]]He has amazing powers and could have killed Robotnik in his own bedroom, but instead gives a heads-up about the prophecy which is what gets Robotnik to start looking for the siblings. Also, if the Oracle hadn't directed the trio to meet at a public place in the first episode, then their foster parents wouldn't have been roboticized.[[/labelnote]]
*** Queen Aleena is either incredibly foolish or in on the Oracle's plan. Also, she has zero desire to reunite with her own kin or else she wants to reunite with Manic only and kill off the other two siblings.
*** Episode 26 doesn't really take place in an alternate universe, but rather in the future where Sonic, Sonia, and Manic finally found their mother and became much worse than Robotnik, who in turn [[HeelFaceTurn saw the error of his ways]] and led the new Freedom Fighters.
*** Sonic is a closeted transgender woman (or genderfluid), due to the bizarrely large number of scenes in the show where he crossdresses as part of a disguise.
** "The Harlem Globetrotters Meet Snow White" takes place not in medieval times, but in a third-world European country.
** Not a character, but some annotators think the ''Darkstalkers'' cartoon was meant to be a satire of video game cartoons -- [[http://z13.invisionfree.com/Annotation_Station/index.php?showtopic=895 brief explanation here.]]
*** Morrigan as a pedophile who's obsessed with seducing Harry. Harry himself is portrayed as desperately and psychotically determined to get with Felicia.
** Not Important from the ''Hatred'' trailer was made out to be a Milli Vanilli member.
** They think that Kree from ''Dinosaur Adventures'' was deliberately trying to get the other characters killed.
** [[RonTheDeathEater Dr. Rabbit is a racist pedophile and murderer]]. This was largely inspired by {{WebAnimation/Walrusguy}}, who uses a similar depiction of the character.
** Candy Kong is a GoldDigger who was only with Donkey Kong due to his status as future king of Kongo Bongo. Aided by "From Zero To Hero", wherein she takes an immediate interest in Bluster only after he tells her that she'd get his fortune if he died.
** The supposed predators in ''Boys Beware'' are interpreted as just being normal, friendly guys trying to help out the youth in their community, mainly because [[VillainyFreeVillain all their supposed crimes are never actually seen or described]]. In turn, the narrator and "victims" are deconstructed by being depicted as racist, jingoist homophobes who casually drop slurs in their sentences.
** The women of ''Chichi Miko'' aren't actually relatives of the protagonist, but are actually a band of pedophiles that kidnapped him and convinced him they were related.
** Mega Man is an abusive StrawMisogynist and HeManWomanHater who continually tries to threaten Roll to StayInTheKitchen.
** Speed Racer is an incompetent buffoon and DistressedDude who has to be constantly saved by Racer X. He's also possibly asexual and constantly makes excuses to avoid sex with Trixie.
** ''Spectreman'':
*** Spectreman is an obnoxious {{Jerkass}} who spends most of his time trolling the other characters. Note that this is only a ''slight'' exaggeration of what Spectreman is actually like in the show.
*** Gori is a rambling madman obsessed with gesturing and who may or may not be a transgendered Candy Kong.
*** The father and son from episodes 3 and 4 are a violent drunk and a sociopathic jerk respectively.
*** The boxer from episode 12 is a PungeonMaster obsessed with jokes about boxing.
** Bucky O'Hare and the crew of the Righteous Indignation are a mammal supremacist gang that's highly racist towards non-mammals like toads and reptiles. Also Willy is a hardcore furry fetishist who's secretly Jenny's lover.
** ''Kirby: Right Back At Ya!'':
*** Kirby is a gluttonous and unhinged SilentSnarker who's only pretending to be a child so he can get away with acting like a jerk.
*** Blade Knight is the town drunkard, with his [[WhatTheHellIsThatAccent bad Scottish accent]] being the result of his heavy drinking.
*** Bugzzy is a wholesale character ShoutOut to [[WebComic/NeglectedMarioCharacters Fred the Spanyard]].
*** Kabu is an [[AttentionWhore attention whoring]] deity who claims to be the real hero. May or may not also be [[GodIsEvil evil]].
*** Chief Bookem is a communist who wants to start a revolution against King Dedede.
*** Doron is actually a mentally unstable Wrestling/StoneColdSteveAustin, and he's in prison due to beating up his wife Debra so many times.
*** Rick The Hamster is constantly trying to rob the Cappy Town mail, and gets along with Kirby as long as he doesn't steal his apples. Also he might be annotator Hamsteere.
** In ''Archie's Weird Mysteries'', Principal Weatherbee and one-off supervillain Dr. Arachnid are the same person, based on the fact that they share a voice actor and Weatherbee coincidentally not appearing in the episode Dr. Arachnid appears in. Also BettyAndVeronica are secretly in love with each other.
** Princess Oriana and the Duke of Zill's roles in ''Felix the Cat: The Movie'' were reversed. Due to Oriana's terrible leadership skills (like disbanding her kingdom's army) and the Duke simply making the citizens of Progress City happy. Some were questioning whether or not Oriana was simply an EvilOverlord, and that the Duke was retaking the kingdom back from her rule.
*** Also, Felix the Cat is well-aware of his washed-up status and desperate to regain his former popularity. This is especially true of his CG-floating-head form in the movie.
** Optimus Prime in the ''Transformers: Headmasters'' riff is a [[AdaptationalWimp straight-out pussy]] who gets scared at the sight of Electro-Leeches.
** Bear Cub and Rabbit from BTS Media's ''Ice Age''[[labelnote:Note]]Titled 'Legit Motherfucking Ice Age Annotated'[[/labelnote]] are constantly trying to kill each other.
** Chris in ''WesternAnimation/JoshuaAndThePromisedLand'' is a ManipulativeBastard and is not on God's good graces. It's also implied that he may be part of a ghostly mafia of some sort.
*** God is an uncaring and childish overlord fed up with Moses and his actions. May or may not also be [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Sauron]].
** ''Fonz and the Happy Days Gang'' has the Fonz himself re-imagined as a godlike being due to how he manages to fix '''''everything''''' by just hitting things or snapping his fingers. Him being unaffected by the time machine being flipped upside down in episode 1 cemented it.
** Carmen Sandiego herself in ''Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego'' is shown to be a MemeticMolester to the Player.
** ''The Adventures of Donkey Ollie'':
*** Ollie is a narcissist who rides off the fact that he brought Jesus a short distance to the gates of Jerusalem to the point where even '''''God''''' is annoyed by him. He's also considered by the Annotators as a bad omen to those who he encounters (even his own owners), pinning Jesus' crucifixion and later, Stephen's stoning ''on'' Ollie. Episode 2 would give him a a BDSM kink when Saul whips him.
*** Farmer John is reformed [=DarksydePhil=] who quit Let's Plays and became a farmer.
** Brock's girl chasing aspect is ramped up to eleven in the ''Pokemon Learning League'' one-off to where he's actually stalking them with his attempts to get their attention.
** The ''Super Duper Sumos'' are less heroic and more inconsiderate jerkasses who revel in their gluttony and disgusting behaviors, especially Booma. Also, Booma being creepily attracted to Prima, due to wanting to show off his butt to her again and again.
** Johnny Arcade from ''Video Power'' has several clones made by Acclaim, with various personality quirks and characteristics, the most prominent one being one named "Brad" who keeps calling Johnny about games he's stuck on.
** Creator/BillCosby in accompanying promos for ''Series/TheCosbyShow'' is treated as an exaggerated serial rapist who thinks roofies are the solution to all of his and his children's problems. Likewise, Series/{{ALF}} in the promos for his series is aware of his own has-been status.
** ''Danger Rangers'':
*** The Danger Rangers, usually Burble, are regularly fed up with the TooDumbToLive natures of the kids they regularly save and threaten to unleash their animalistic instincts quite often.
*** Rusty Ringtail, the villain of Episode 1, is interpreted as Burble's jilted ex-boyfriend.
** The abductors in ''Get Street Smart'' don't want to rape Capricorn due to being a preteen, but because they have a fetish for alien booty. Taken to its logical extreme during the climax where even the cops want to do him.
** The titular protagonists of ''WesternAnimation/StreetSharks'' are bloodthirsty killers who are a hair's breadth away from mauling the nearest human they see. However, given [[DesignatedHero how the sharks are already super violent and frequently cause collateral damage when fighting Paradigm's minions]], the Annotators ''barely have to exaggerate.''
* AwesomeEgo: The Annotators consider the ''Captain N'' version of Simon Belmont to be the best character in that show.
** [[Franchise/DonkeyKong Bluster Kong]] is another classic example of this.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Some of the Annotators actually like the "surf music" used in some Creator/{{DiC|Entertainment}} shows.
** One of the things that everyone agreed upon when riffing ''Sonic Underground'' was that the theme song ''kicked ass'', bordering on SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound.
** "Bluster The Benevolent", so much so that the Annotators gave it a reprise after they riffed the final episode of ''Donkey Kong''.
*** ''Gotta Give It Back! Take It Back!'' and ''I'm Leo Luster'' were both so well received that there were annotations pointing out with surprise the songs' apparently positive receptions.
** He-Man and She-Ra's music from ''[[WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983 He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special]]'' were considered classic and awesome.
** The openings to both ''Bucky [=O'Hare=]'' and ''Spectreman'' also got a lot of praise from the annotators. With the latter's in-show music also getting a bit of a nod.
** The theme song for ''Kirby: Right Back At Ya!'', which also overlaps with NarmCharm.
** Most of the annotators agreed that "Who's the Boss" from ''Felix The Cat: The Movie'' was the best part of the film.
** The opening theme to ''Transformers: Headmasters'' was given the approval of the annotators due to how [[NarmCharm over-the-top epic]] it is in all its [[TheEighties '80s glory]].
** Several of the annotators had jam sessions in the middle of Inspector Gadget's Annotated Field Trip due to the surprisingly catchy background music.
* BadassDecay: Poor Toadborg suffers an absurd amount of humiliations throughout ''Bucky O'Hare'', going from beating Bucky in an epic duel to spending most of the finale caught in the bay doors of his ship.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Sufficiently weird and/or scary commercials can be like this.
* BizarroEpisode:
** Many of the intermissions come and go, but "Attack of the Giant Vulture" stands out in this regard; even ignoring the bizarre nature of the short, the video is only about two minutes long, so it just kind of... ''happens''. [[LampshadeHanging Even the Annotators themselves are confused by it]].
** The two-part mid-season finale of ''Speed Racer'' is noted to be one, inexplicably eschewing all the show's typical style and tropes; there's only one race (and only in the cold open), deaths are explicitly shown, most of the supporting cast is absent, and a giant stone robot shows up.
* BrokenBase:
** In the show's early days there was debating over whether they should strictly stick to series adapted from or otherwise related to video games, or include other content as well. Eventually there was a compromise; video games for the main content and "anything goes" for intermissions. However this debate died out after awhile and non-video game series are now regularly featured.
** The pause annotation. Either a hilarious gimmick that got unfairly cut or an annoying ScrappyMechanic that's gone for a good reason.
* CondemnedByHistory: In their re-riff of ''Tricky People'', the annotators found it far more uncomfortable to watch than they had remembered thanks to the horribly jarring shifts in tone between scenes and the genuinely unsettling actions of Reginald Charming.
* ContinuityLockOut: If you watch a newer episode first, you are bound to be confused by the references and {{Call Back}}s to previous episodes. [[labelnote:Example]]''The Nutshack'' references ''Bouchedags'' quite a bit.[[/labelnote]]
* CrazyIsCool: Irrelevant. You have to be crazy to use bad cartoons as ''[[ShameIfSomethingHappened blackmail]]''.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Some of the annotations are so comically distasteful that you can't help but laugh at it.
** The bit in the ''Our Friend Martin'' riff where Martin Luther King's famous "Mountaintop" speech gets dubbed over with the Surf Music.
* DesignatedHero: The Annotators ''will'' spot when heroes are doing something the villains would get reprimanded for, [[{{Hypocrite}} acting against something they preached earlier]], or [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking just general dickery]]. They really ripped into the protagonists of ''Sonic Underground'', especially in Episode 32.
* DesignatedMonkey:
** Lampshaded with Donkey Kong. The Annotators note how the writers of ''Donkey Kong Country'' seem to hate him for no clear reason, with the result that he's constantly suffering undeserved punishments.
** Reggie Mantle goes through something similar in ''Archie's Weird Mysteries''; the show treats him like an obnoxious HateSink and has the cast constantly giving him shit, yet seems oblivious to the fact that Veronica acts the exact same way (if not worse) and never really gets criticized unless it's part of that episode's Aesop.
* DiscreditedMeme: [[WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosSuperShow "Lick my feet"]] used to be a common gag. Due to overexposure, it's brought up only to mock it or other [[DiscreditedMeme worn-out memes]].
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Almost every series has at least '''one''' character that the Annotators actually like:
** Cheatsy and Kooky in ''Super Mario Bros 3.'', as well as Doug the Bug (who was merely a frequent animation error).
** A couple from ''Street Fighter'':
*** BISON!!! ''(flames)''
*** Burke, Rory, and Celia were also well-received in their debut episode, even leading to the Annotators asking why they're not the main characters.
** Quite a few from ''Defenders of the Realm''.
*** Raiden is just generally a snarky guy.
*** Night Wolf, perhaps because he TookALevelInBadAss in ''VideoGame/MortalKombat9'' (which was recent when the show was annotated), so people were easier on him. And for being genuinely amicable, when everyone seemed to bicker every five seconds, and rarely being useless when he got to head out into the field.
*** Jax and Sonya got just a little less hate near the end when they started to show a little character development.
*** Quan Chi, a recurring ''Mortal Kombat'' villain, debuted in ''Defenders of the Realm'' of all places. For that he was referred to as the best OriginalCharacter ever.
*** Scorpion got a lot of love whenever he appeared, with the annotators frequently giving him extra dialogue.
** Buzz Buzzard ([[IAmNotWeasel not a turkey!]]) in the ''Bubsy'' pilot.
** Many in ''Captain N'':
*** Simon Belmont (if his other appearances on this page didn't make that obvious).
*** Bizarrely enough, '''GAME BOY''' of all people is one as well, aided by "trying to kill" Pit and sporting CoolShades in one episode.
*** Mike. Popular enough that people wished he was the real Game Master, wished he came back for the Californialand episode, '''and''' gave him a {{Fanon}} backstory for ''Cartoon All-Stars''.
*** King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard slowly but surely came to this. One part (as disgusting as it is) shipping and one part being [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain sympathetic]] and [[HarmlessVillain not very malicious]] has helped them grow onto the bulk of the crew. Annotators were even disappointed that the writers missed the chance to get the two into official couple status in the ''Paperboy'' episode.
*** Several guest characters, like Bayou Billy, were also well-liked.
** Santa from ''Christmas Comes To Pac-Land'' wasn't really ripped on much by most annotators. Again, some even were kinda depressed when he started to cry when he worries he's missed his Christmas deadline for the first time in history.
** ''WesternAnimation/TheLittlePandaFighter'' just barely one-ups ''Ratatoing'' by having a last minute dark horse: Polaris. In the last five minutes the cartoon gets 'awesomely mean spirited' and Polaris is revealed to be TheChessmaster who screwed all of the protagonists over and got away with it. This earned him the immediate respect of the Annotators.
** Uncle Theobold in ''Mouse Police'' '''barely''' qualifies.
** While Cypher wasn't exactly loved from their first ''Bibleman'' episode he was found more interesting for being pro-active and not quite as spouty as Bibleman. Since the new Bibleman flows way too easily into his role it was more interesting watching Cypher have to cease being a solo hero and go back to being a sidekick.
** ''Sonic Underground'':
*** Dingo for being such an ineffective villain as well as him wanting to be noticed by Sonia, making him seem sweet (when he doesn't have a rape-face on).
*** Bartleby is considered a reincarnation of Simon Belmont from ''Captain N'' (specifically, his "foppy" side).
*** {{One Scene Wonder}}s 'Arhnuld' (the trainer from episode 3) and Argus (episode 4) are also interpreted as versions of Simon Belmont, but as his "awesome" side instead.
*** Manic and Sleet have a few fans.
*** "Agent N" from episode 6 drew compliments for actually being '''effective''' as a villain.
*** "[[EasyAmnesia Amnesia]] [[NotHimself Sonia]]" for being actually competent and semi-tolerable as a protagonist.
*** ART in Episode 38 was fairly well-liked, even after his inevitable HeelFaceTurn and HeroicSacrifice.
** In a meta sense, the opening sequences for shows. They're only shown once or twice, usually the first and last episodes in a season. They are always cluttered with loads and loads of annotations.
** A few from ''The Super Mario Bros. Super Show'':
*** Guest character Herlock Solmes gained the Annotators' admiration for his "legendary" verbal beatdown on Koopiarty.
*** Master Misaki also has this status.
*** {{Captain Lou Albano}} and Danny Wells, especially when they're out-of-character.
** Mr. Clipboard from ''Foodfight!'', due to the fact he's voiced by Creator/ChristopherLloyd and his weird movements being '''humorous''' rather than unsettling. Plus Mr. Clean for not having his image further tarnished by speaking.
** Dr. Know-it-all from "Club Mario" for sharing the Annotators' hatred of the obnoxious hosts and threatening to file a lawsuit against them after they ridiculed him.
** From ''Savage Dragon'':
*** Minor thug Petey the Purse quickly became popular among the Annotators.
*** Basher seems to get a bit of love too.
** From the ''Darkstalkers'' animated series.
*** Lord Raptor because of Creator/ScottMcNeil's hammy portayal of him and being more competent and awesome villain than Pyron in few episodes.
*** Pyron and Ship, mainly for being absolutely ''hilarious''.
*** Anakaris is a lesser one, mainly thanks to the fact he gave a lot of genuinely funny moments.
*** [[FanNickname Posh Dragon]] from Episode 11 got some love as well.
** In ''Mega Man'':
*** Dr. Wily, largely due to his voice.
*** Pharaoh Man, because of his (short-lived) awesomeness and effectiveness as a henchman. Crystal Man was similarly liked for at least ''trying'' to fight Mega Man after losing his weapon.
*** Proto Man became this towards the end of the series thanks to his snarky personality.
*** Vile and Spark Mandrill for being such [[KnightOfCerebus unexpectedly threatening and competent villains]].
** From ''Donkey Kong Country'':
*** Bluster Kong. At first, he was hailed as being a much better Cranky than Cranky until the characters got [[CharacterRerailment re-railed]]. Bluster developed a Simon Belmont-esque personality later on in the show, and had a few [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome awesome moments]], most notably in "Booty and the Beast", "Bluster The Benevolent", and "Hunka Hunka Burnin' Bluster".
*** Funky Kong for his laid-back, [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation oft stoned]] nature.
*** Eddy the Mean Old Yeti has gained some appreciation among the Annotators.
*** The Kremlings in general but General Klump in particular, due to the surprising amounts of characterization and development he got through out the show. It helps that he was voiced by the late Len Carlson, a well-liked and respected veteran voice actor.
*** Donkey Kong himself has gotten a few fans, mostly for his godlike singing voice and the fact that most of the "good" characters treat him like shit.
** ''Sonic [=SatAM=]'':
*** Robotnik's portrayal, mostly for EvilIsCool. This waned over the second season as he grew more incompetent.
*** Snively has his fans, mostly for mirroring their reaction to the show.
*** The [=SWATbots=] TookALevelInBadass in episode 4, which helped them garner some appreciation.
*** Debuting in Season 2, there's [[FanNickname "Dragonbird"]] (an UglyCute, MixAndMatchCritter InstantMessengerPigeon) and Naugus (Whose cool powers, intelligence and motives have the Annotators wish he was the hero).
*** King Acorn, who's primary reason was that he was voiced by the ever hammy Creator/TimCurry, earning him the FanNickname: [[WesternAnimation/TheWildThornberrys Nigel Thornfurry.]]
*** In Season 1, Rotor and Bunnie are generally competent characters who possess mad gadgetry skills and super-strength, respectively. Unfortunately, they're completely overshadowed in Season 2 by Sonic, Sally, Dulcy, and Antoine.
*** In the minisode "Ghost Busted", Tails has a nightmare in which the Moon possessed an animate duck face and devil horns. The ridiculous apparition [[RefugeInAudacity was appreciated]] for reminding the annotators of [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog a much better show.]]
*** Advertising/SegataSanshiro made his way into the annotators' hearts when his commercials appeared in Season 2, regarding him as the savior of Sonic [=SatAM=].
** Ganon from ''Legend Of Zelda'', so much so that the Annotators got '''really''' pissed when there was an episode he didn't appear in.
** Kree from ''[[Creator/DingoPictures Dinosaur Adventure]]'' became one quickly, mostly because he disses the other characters and generally acts like a troll, knowing he can get away with it.
---> "Shut up Peak, you're a freak!"
** ''Captain Pronin Superstar!''
*** Animation/CaptainPronin quickly became the annotators' favorite action hero.
*** The bear in the intro.
** The "Hive Table" ([[ItMakesSenseInContext a picnic table carried by a bunch of bees]]) in ''WesternAnimation/YoYogi'', due to it beating the ever-living shit out of the obnoxious protagonists. It even made a comeback in one of the African movie trailer commercial breaks for ''Double Dragon''.
** Bo Jackson from ''WesternAnimation/ProStars'' had a few [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome Awesome Moments]] and is generally the most well-received of the trio.
*** Joey Moss, after appearing in a commercial with Wayne Gretzky, was quickly praised as the best ProStar.
** Robotnik, Metal Sonic, and Knuckles were the most-tolerated characters in ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie''.
** Jimmy Lee from ''[[WesternAnimation/DoubleDragon1993 Double Dragon]]'' for being a grumpy, Protoman-esque tough guy.
** ''[[WesternAnimation/ArchiesWeirdMysteries Archie's Weird Mysteries]]'':
*** Reggie (aka ''Mantle The Magnificient'') became the annotators' favorite main cast member by the second episode for his Bluster-like JerkassHasAPoint tendencies, at least until the last ten or so episodes of the show. See TookALevelInJerkass on the main page.
*** Jughead became this later in the series after the annotators noticed that he lacks the AesopAmnesia all the other characters seem to suffer from. His genuinely sympathetic backstory with the library ghost in Episode 6 helped greatly.
*** Betty is considered a far better LoveInterest than Veronica, if only because she isn't constantly whining and actually helps Archie out. Annotations frequently wonder how Archie could possibly pick Veronica over her.
** ''Speed Racer''
*** Racer X, for being a smart NiceGuy and total badass.
*** Pops became a minor one after a few episodes revealed him to be a CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass.
** Skeletor from ''[[WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983 He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special]]''. Partially from MemeticMutation and from him just being that big of a [[EvilIsHammy ham]].
** ''ComicBook/BuckyOHareAndTheToadWars'':
*** Deadeye Duck, for his TriggerHappy [[LargeHam hamminess]] and [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome Awesome Moments]]. Creator/ScottMcNeil's performance as him also helped.
*** Toadborg won over a few of the Annotators for his cool voice, design and [[KnightOfCerebus intimidating]] nature, as contrast to Air Marshal.
*** Al Nagator for his GenreSavvy personality and the clever way he conned both Willy and Toadborg in the third episode.
*** Commander Dogstar and the crew of the Indefatigble. Their fun designs and quirky personalities caused many to consider them better protagonists than Bucky and his team.
** From ''WesternAnimation/RapsittieStreetKidsBelieveInSanta'', there's Smithy with his odd obsession with his sandwich and the blue hair kid named Zeke for his inability to sound like he gives a fuck.
** ''Spectreman'':
*** "Fat Dad", the lovable father who gets turned into a monster in episode 3 for his unexpectedly well-written and tragic storyline.
*** Karas for being a very humorous CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass and having great chemistry with Dr. Gori. He got even more praise after episode 12, in which he [[spoiler: figures out Spectreman's secret identity by himself in a surprisingly clever way.]]
** ''Kirby'':
*** King Dedede and Escargoon for being so hilarious. Particularly Dedede, thanks to his LargeHam voice acting.
*** Rick the Hamster, who was praised for his AwesomeAussie accent and in general being very likable.
*** Escargoon's Mother, for being a kind-hearted CoolOldLady who indirectly gave Escargoon a lot more character depth.
*** Kirby himself, due to the annotated intrepretation of him. See AlternativeCharacterInterpretation above.
** The clown in ''Webcomic/LeastICouldDo'':
** Ping from ''WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfTheAmericanRabbit'' was praised for being a more effective hero than Rob yet not begging for credit. Lorenzo Music's portrayal helped.
** Dexter from ''WesternAnimation/FlipperAndLopaka'' proved himself to be the most likable character out of all the Yoram Gross cartoon tryouts annotators did due to him being a rare combination of Bluster-esque AwesomeEgo and actual villain, speaking with s hammy Creator/JackNicholson impersonation.
** ''Felix The Cat: The Movie'' managed to do what ''Saves Christmas'' couldn't; have a few characters that the Annotators actually '''''liked''''':
*** Pim, the hillbilly Felix meets in the swamps, for constantly making backhanded remarks to Felix and [[spoiler: backstabbing him at the first opportunity]].
*** Wack and his strange dragon-headed pen, for being memorably bizarre while also getting in some of the movie's few legitimately decent jokes.
** ''Donkey Ollie'' had the cast of the ''Farmer John's Corner'' segment of the show. Though it was mocked at first and seen as a dumb activity segment, the annotators eventually found it endearing, with many looking forward to the segments, and considering it one of the best things, if not the best thing, about the show.
*** As an example of a darkhorse within a darkhorse, there was Mr. Buttinsky and Mr. Shivers. The first for his habit of comically exasperating Farmer John, and the second for being a complete [[LargeHam ham]] who [[CardCarryingVillain relishes]] his own pointless jerkassery.
** Pompeii Pete stands out as being one of the more likeable, endearing, and funny characters out of the entire cast of ''The Wacky World of Tex Avery''. Also Miss Chastity, solely due to the FanService she adds to the show.
** A few on ''Super Duper Sumos''.
*** Mamoo is probably the most-liked sumo. This is likely due to him not being actively selfish like Booma and having his annoying catchphrase kick in later in the series than Kimo.
*** Dr. Stinger is definitely the most admired villain of Bad Inc., due to constantly being TheWoobie and his authentic and child-like zeal for his monsters and for all animals, especially for those that are not popularly considered cute.
*** Miss Mister is also tolerated due to her MsFanservice status and her increasing weariness of her minions, the sumos, and seemingly the show itself.
*** Shemo, who was liked due to being more competent than the three other sumos combined as well as being less obnoxious. When Kimo left the other two sumos in "Honor Thy Phather", annotators suggested they should bring Shemo back as a part of the team.
* EvilIsCool: Ganon in ''The Legend of Zelda: The Annotated Series''.
** [=SatAM=] Robotnik was this as well.
** Vile and Spark Mandrill in ''Mega Man'', to the point that the Annotators considered their sole appearance the best episode.
** Toadborg, to the extent that he's declared an EnsembleDarkhorse in his very first appearance.
* FairForItsDay: "Supervising Women Workers" had some slight defenders that for all its misogyny, it was a time when women were just starting to enter the workforce while men were fighting in World War II. To be fair, the short was never saying women '''couldn't''' work jobs men typically had to do; but with the way it highlights that women apparently are sensitive and get jealous, [[SarcasmMode things men]] [[MenDontCry NEVER feel]], it sure is outdated these days.
* {{Fanon}}: Michael in ''Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue'' is the same Mike who bullied Kevin from ''Captain N''. Despite being enemies, he and his friends were sincerely distraught by Kevin's disappearance and turned to drugs to cope with the loss. Oh, and he grew up to be Mike Dawson from ''VideoGame/DarkSeed'', particularly his interpretation by WebVideo/{{Retsupurae}}.
** NME from ''Kirby: Right Back At Ya'' is the same organization as NME from [[CallBack Armor Of Light]]
* FanNickname:
** "Silly The Willies" for Milli Vanilli.
** "Kid Icky" for Kid Icarus.
** "Sonic On The Ground" for ''Sonic Underground'', due to a mishearing of the German theme's lyrics.
** The song affectionately known as "the surf music" is actually called "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ongkK-NK70s Mega Move]]".
** "Mantle the Magnificent" for Reggie Mantle.
* FanPreferredCouple:
** King Hippo/Eggplant Wizard.
** Pyron/Ship, whom the Annotators depict as a bickering married couple.
** In ''Archie's Weird Mysteries'' the Annotators despise the Archie/Betty/Veronica LoveTriangle so much that they start shipping Betty and Veronica together.
* FetishRetardant: The entirety of ''Chichi Miko!!''. Especially the absurd Conan-esque outfit the grandmother wears at one point and the extremely large chest.
* FridgeHorror: Often highlighted throughout the project, but ''Armor of Light'' triggered an out of universe revelation. It's a Christian special that talks about victory and defeating enemies -- but for about 96% of its run-time not a single word about forgiveness, loving your enemies, or just freaking letting God sort out who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell. The fact they weren't trying to hide the 'sheep' mentality was found a tad horrifying.
* FriendlyFandoms: With other riffing series like ''Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000'' and ''{{WebVideo/Retsupurae}}''.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** In the "Mario Bros. Ice Capades" special the Spiny in Koopa's army gets the annotation "I am the S.T.M. (Master of Theology) of Spinning!" as a nod towards fan-favorite Cheatsy Koopa. Towards the end, the Annotators notice Spiny is the only antagonist who escapes Luigi's onslaught, slipping by while everyone else surrounds King Koopa.
** The final ''Darkstalkers'' episode opens with Pyron and Ship joking about how LethallyStupid Anakaris is and how they feel safer without him near them. Than at the end of the episode, and thus the show, [[spoiler: Anakaris's final teleport causes him to fall from the ceiling on top of Pyron, seemingly crushing and killing him.]]
** In episode three of ''Spectreman'' the father who gets turned into a monster is jokingly depicted as a abusive drunk who hates his family. In the next episode, said father ''attempts suicide'' in order to save his family, Spectreman, and most of the city. One of the Annotators even admits to feeling kind of bad for jabbing the character so hard before.
** Also in ''Spectreman'', a lot of annotations joked about Spectreman being terrible at keeping his identity a secret, with gags about him revealing it by accident. [[spoiler: In episode twelve, he actually ''does'' blow his secret identity by getting caught in nerve gas but not pretending to be affected, thus causing Karas to put two and two together.]]
** One of the Annotators, Bry, had put on an annotation over the Script Writer credit with “STOP WRITING YOU HACK” in reference to Erika Strobel writing an episode about a baby in ''Donkey Kong Country''[[labelnote:*]]specifically, the "Babygate" episode where K.Rool takes in Baby Kong as his own and Donkey Kong has to try and get him back[[/labelnote]] in 2014. In less than three years, Erika Strobel would commit suicide. This retroactively made the joke tasteless, especially among ''WesternAnimation/BlazingDragons'' fans (as Strobel was the first staff member to take notice of it's cult following).
* HilariousInHindsight:
** In ''Street Fighter'' episode 3, "Deadpool" says he's gettin' out of this series because there's no yellow boxes he can speak into. This was before yellow became an available color for annotations.
** One of the first annotations in ''Turtles Christmas'' has the annotators "begging" {{Creator/Geibuchan}} to notice them. Two days later, and guess who shows up to the comment section? This caught the annotators by surprise.
** For a long time, the Annotators jokingly referred to Music/MilliVanilli as "Silly The Willies". In episode 3 of ''Bucky O'Hare'', the term "Willies" actually gets used by Willy and Al Nagator, causing a chorus of annotations lampshading the coincidence.
** Reference to ''Donkey Kong Country'' cartoon's "Mirror Never Lies" song is made at one episode of the annotated riff of ''Legend of Zelda'': The Animated Series. The DKC cartoon itself would be annotated in 3 years.
*** On a similar note, the semi-season finale of ''Speed Racer'' references ''Kirby: Right Back At Ya'', a show that would take it's slot when annotators returned from ''Bucky O'Hare'' and ''Spectreman''.
** One of the Annotators, Volture, has a username that's pronounced eerily similar to the name of the villain of ''The American Rabbit'', Vultor.
** The channel's consistent ribbing on ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' would eventually lead to them mocking three different commercials (a show promo, and tie-ins for KFC and Burger King). With the first video of the new channel being that of the now infamous "Steamed Hams" meme.
** Based on the "Emperor of Eavesdropping" line in the ''WesternAnimation/SuperMarioWorld'' cartoon, Cheatsy (Larry) Koopa received many "I am the [Title] of [Alliterative action]" jokes. These came before the [[https://youtu.be/Neb3082iJpg?t=655 April 30, 2014 Mario Kart 8 Presentation]], where Larry was called the "Authority of Acceleration."
** One of the various [[RunningGag recurring jokes]] in ''Donkey Kong Country'' was King K. Rool lamenting he wasn't a playable character in ''Super Smash Bros.'' He would finally become a playable character in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate''.
* HoYay:
** Some time after the {{Heroic BSOD}}s expressed throughout ''Bouchedags'', one Annotator admitted the reason he made it all the way through it himself was because he thought Sam was kinda cute.
** Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo, much to the AlternativeCharacterInterpretation-induced [[FanDisservice disgust]] of the Annotators. To that end, Kevin and Mike as well.
** King Dedede and Escargoon from Kirby: Right Back at Ya.
** When the cook ropes the whip around the slaver and gets close to his face in ''Donkey Ollie'' Episode 7, the annotators pounce on the (unintentionally) homoerotic moment like sharks to blood.
* HesJustHiding: One annotator made [[spoiler: Karras survive his death and become a television writer]] at the annotator-written epilogues of ''Spectreman'' finale.
* HypeBacklash:
** {{Inverted|Trope}}. Game Boy from ''Captain N'' was hyped up to be basically the most annoying character of all time... but aside from a couple jokes in the first two episodes of Season Two, several annotators ended up ''liking'' him (especially compared to Mega Man and Kid Icarus).
** The Annotators experienced this in regards to ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'', with the dull stories and Sonic's obnoxious characterization being particular turn-offs. This resulted in the [[AbortedArc early end]] of the show's run on the channel and the second season's abandonment due to a lack of enthusiasm and interest for the show. [[SubvertedTrope Then they went and did season two anyways]].
* IAmNotShazam:
** [=CurtDogg=] is not "beeupyou" (the [=YouTube=] channel before the site disabled collaborative annotations); that's just a phonetic pun of the B^U emoticon.
** There is no official name for the group of people that do the series, though they are often referred to as "[=TheAnnotatXperiment=]" (the second [=YouTube=] channel name). Though you'll see "Annotators" used frequently throughout these pages.
* IKnewIt: '''Unintentional.''' Early in ''Foodfight!'', an annotator mentions that Christopher Lloyd's character moves like some'''thing''' is controlling him from the inside, ''Film/MenInBlack''-style. ([[spoiler:Then the ending reveals he's a robot.]]) The same annotator gets angry at TheReveal.
* InferredHolocaust: Whenever it happens, they bring it up at every opportunity. In "Felix Saves Christmas," where the primary concern of the characters seems to be to help Santa, the Annotators repeatedly point out that the entire planet is freezing over and maybe they should do something about that instead.
** On a somewhat smaller scale, series finales are often reinterpreted into comical [[DownerEnding Downer Endings]] through Annotator-created epilogues, with only [[EnsembleDarkhorse fan-favorite characters]] getting any sort of mercy.
* JerkassWoobie: The Annotations depict [[TheDragon Toadborg]] as an angry jerk who suffers nigh-constantly at the hands of his enemies and incompetent underlings.
* LoveToHate: Irrelevant. Mainly because he's NecessarilyEvil, with the result that the stuff he uploads, while horrible, is always extremely fun to riff.
** This is case for a lot of annotated scrappies, where mocking a certain character becomes actually fun. Examples include Wayne Gretzky from ''Pro-Stars'', Diddy Kong from ''Donkey Kong Country'' and Tiff from ''Kirby: Right Back At Ya''.
* MagnificentBastard: The Oracle Of Delphius in ''Sonic Underground'', according to the Annotators.
* MemeticBadass: Pharaoh Man, Simon Belmont, Segata Sanshiro, and Captain Pronin.
* MemeticLoser:
** The [=SWATbots=] and Queen Aleena from ''Sonic Underground''.
** The "[[SarcasmMode Unbreakable]]" Annotation.
** Any sufficiently incompetent villain becomes this by default. Examples include Dr. Robotnik (in ''Underground''), Pyron, and King K. Rool.
* MemeticMutation:
** Though they didn't invent the meme, they helped popularize the "B^U" emoticon.
** The Surf Music.
** "TRICKY PEOPLE, TRICKY TRICKY PEOPLE!"
** "THE SHADOW FAAAALLLS"
* MemeticPsychopath:
** Dr. Rabbit, largely because of [[{{WebAnimation/Walrusguy}} Walrusguy's]] depiction of him as a racist, pedophiliac sociopath.
** Woody Woodpecker is depicted as a child-killing psychopath and EldritchAbomination.
* MoralEventHorizon: In ''Captain N'', Kevin destroying Football World is treated as this by the Annotators.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound:
** The hilarious chicken noises coming from the robots in ''Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm''.
** Bison's 'yesh' since everyone went wild when that awesomely famous scene occurred. Also the music accompanying it later invoked many glorious 'yeshes!'
** Throughout the ''Dinosaur Adventure'' riff, the Annotators kept excitedly waiting for the infamous "Yee" line to appear, unaware that the line was only in the Italian dub of the movie, so it wasn't in the movie at all, much to the sadness of the Annotators. ([[spoiler:Until the clip suddenly appears in TheStinger.]])
[[/folder]]

[[folder:N-Z]]
* NarmCharm: Some of the shows manage to actually be enjoyable and fun despite their lax quality. In particular ''Captain N'' and ''Sonic Underground'' both are looked upon fondly for the simple fact they're stupid in a ''fun'' way, in stark contrast to stuff like ''Ctrl+Alt+Del'' or ''Nutshack''.
** ''Speed Racer'' got a surprising amount of praise for this. The show was completely absurd and goofy, but the Annotators felt that this only made it more fun to watch.
* NeverLiveItDown: Often mutates into running gags.
** Thanks to episode 9 of ''Ctrl+Alt+Del'', the sound of a slide whistle always causes Buckley's name to come up.
** Larry/Cheatsy calls himself the "Emperor of Eavesdropping" in one episode of ''Super Mario World'', leading to "I am the [Title] of [Alliterative Action]" jokes from then on.
** A couple from ''Street Fighter'':
*** Sagat was mocked for his inability to knock down a gate with a tank.
*** Guile was consistently mocked for the fact that he boasts about "honor, justice, and commitment" yet, at some point during season 2, he hits a guy InTheBack with a Sonic Boom. Then he does it again in later episodes. People claim he has some sort of compulsion to attack from behind, with annotations like "He had his back turned, he was asking for it!"
** From ''Captain N'':
*** In one episode, Kevin says, "Time for a power move!" only to fall flat on his ass. This is referenced when someone stumbles during a fight scene.
*** Whenever Kevin is hailed as a great hero someone brings up that the "hero" is too terrified to clean his room.
*** Eggplant Wizard's non sequitur suggestion of a "radio-controlled sweet potato".
*** Lana asking "What about the peace treaty?" whenever Mother Brain departs from her.
** In the first episode of ''The Super Mario Bros. Super Show'', Bowser/King Koopa demands that two random minions [[IKissYourFoot lick his feet]]. A reference to this occurs practically OnceAnEpisode.
** The plant doctor from one of the live-action ''Mario'' segments has annotations that are 90% [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 Heavy Weapons Guy]] quotes, since Gary Schwartz is the actor for both.
** Whenever Doc Brown or any ''Franchise/BackToTheFuture'' reference appears, expect a quote from Mr. Clipboard, who's played by Creator/ChristopherLloyd.
** On a meta level, Irrelevant will '''always''' be remembered for ''The Nutshack'' and ''Beauty And Warrior''.
** From ''Donkey Kong Country'', King K. Rool wanting to raise Baby Kong over taking the Crystal Coconut (the MacGuffin he has desperately tried to capture for the entire series) when it was '''literally handed to him''', this has since been known as "Babygate".
** Cranky, Diddy and Klump (in Candy's body) making head puns to Robo-DK in "The Big Switch-a-roo" ended up replacing "HOOPS" has the group's go to joke whenever terrible puns pop up in media.
** One particular bit from ''WesternAnimation/ProStars'' has (Live-Action) Michael Jordan saying "Pro Stars are on the way." Episode 7 made fun of this by having the characters and Annotators bring this up constantly.
** From ''Spectreman'', Karras' jacket getting dirtied and him getting revenge for it in episode 3.
*** King Satan's roar also became such.
** ''The Adventures of Donkey Ollie'' has Ollie carrying Jesus only a few feet to Jerusalem's gates at the end of episode 1. This gets continuously brought up in the later episodes.
** Also see the main page under BondOneLiner.
* NightmareFuel:
** Some of the annotations note how creepy Mother Brain looks in ''Captain N''.
** Rebound from the Hoopland episode of ''Captain N'' may be annoying but damn are the noises he makes when he goes psycho scary as hell!
** Sonia's NightmareSequence in ''Sonic Underground'' episode 6 had people admit they were frightened.
** The Sugar Rush spectators in the Let's Jab for ''Wreck-it Ralph'' on the Wii creeped a few of the annotators out.
** In ''Dinosaur Adventure'', one of the voice actors whispers "I'm done" when a scene fades to black, which startled viewers.
** Disturbing commercials, because they seem to come out of nowhere. Notable example is the one for ''Sugar Rice Krinkles''.
** ''[=JayJay=] the Jet Plane'' immediately got this reaction when the characters were first shown on screen.
** ''Rapsitie Kids'' had many of the annotators question what depths of Hell the movie came from. Not helped one bit by the opening music coming off as demonic rather than jolly.
--->''[[Film/TheOmen now playing: omen_holiday_remix.mp3]]''
** Unlike King Hippo and the Eggplant Wizard, the relationship between King Dedede and Escargoon in ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa'' can come across as an abusive relationship. Episode 35 is especially bad in that the entire episode is pretty much a parody of such a dynamic.
** Wild Woody's uncanny appearance put several annotators off.
** The appearance of a mutilated Donkey Ollie in episode 4 of his series left several of the annotators disturbed. As did a shot of an elephant getting scared out of its skin during a musical number in episode 10.
** In ''Turtles Christmas'', many of the annotators were extremely put-off by the creepy costumes of the turtles and their rictus grins.
** The Dutch fireworks commercial from the final ''Danger Rangers'' episode had multiple annotators unnerved by the {{Fingore}} it presented.
* NightmareRetardant:
** ''VideoGame/SonicExe'' became this under their riff, not like the original material was "scary" to begin with.
** The "ominous bongos" music whenever it shows up in a Dingo Pictures movie.
** ''Ben Drowned'' gets a similar reaction to ''Exe'', with annotations noting that [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask the original game it was based on]] was already pretty scary on its own (albeit in a more subtle and surreal way), making the editing and jump scares feel redundant.
* OneSceneWonder: Quite a few.
** In ''Street Figher'' episode 3, the man in the black and red jumpsuit, who the Annotators nicknamed "Deadpool".
** In ''Captain N'', Eggplant Wizard's peach dancers.
** Also in ''Captain N'', Mike only got one episode yet earned some {{fanon}} backstory!
** Pharaoh Man from ''Mega Man'' was an absolutely awesome bad guy but never appeared again after his short appearance in "The Electric Nightmare".
** Agent N, a single-episode minor character from ''Sonic Underground'' who was legitimately dangerous as a villain.
* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: Exhibited with the ''Zaboomafoo'', ''Wreck-it Ralph'', ''Duke Nukem: Critical Mass'', ''Duck Dynasty'', ''Double Dragon V'', ''Sonic Schoolhouse'' and ''The Grinch'' Let's Jabs.
* ReplacementScrappy: A major reason why Tommy Treehugger and Co-MC were so massively hated is that their segment replaced the beloved Lou Albano and Danny Wells skits that were featured in most of the ''Mario'' cartoons.
* RootingForTheEmpire:
** Characters who the audience is supposed to hate tend to get the most sympathy from the Annotators.
** This happened over time in ''Captain N'' -- to the point that one Annotator said it was ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry'' all over again in the ''Paperboy'' episode.
** NME from ''Armor of Light'' just barely qualifies. Nobody likes the annoying bad guys (except maybe Dark Master's look), but the Annotators just despised the smarmy protagonists more. Also, NME wasn't shown doing anything bad in the special, so the kids came off as a bunch of Christian extremists that sabotaged corporate broadcasts and interrupted a vague band contest.
** Brand X from ''Foodfight!'', due to the FlatCharacter protagonists combined with the other mascot characters falling deep into the UnintentionalUncannyValley. Granted, some were uncomfortable about the [[ANaziByAnyOtherName Nazi overtones]] of Brand X. Most of the rooting went to Mr. Clipboard, a OneSceneWonder who quickly became the film's EnsembleDarkhorse.
** The Empire of Zill in ''Felix The Cat: The Movie''. The reason for this is threefold: First, Oriana and its leadership didn't seem all that better in comparison. Second, many annotators interpreted the Duke of Zill as a noble national hero. Third, Wack Lizardi was the best damn thing in the whole film.
** The Red Baron in "Revenge of the Red Baron'' was praised for killing off the (largely) {{Jerkass}} adults that populated the film.
* SacredCow: ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'' has no possibility of being annotated despite a number of commentators suggesting it and Long John Baldry's portrayal of Robotnik is widely considered the best. [=CurtDogg=] himself said this show knew that it wanted to be goofy and succeeded, and thus he would not have it annotated. The first episode was eventually annotated, with a disclaimer claiming that it was simply an exception and the full series still won't be annotated in its entirety.
* {{Sequelitis}}: A few times.
** The "Dr. Rabbit" shorts hurt these people hard.
** So did ''The Super Mario Bros. Super Show'', consisting of a whole year riffing on the animated segments, then adding the leftover live-action shorts to the next annotated series, ''Darkstalkers''.
*** The live-action shorts themselves got significantly less entertaining in the later episodes, to the point that the Annotators actually started getting annoyed with them.
** Happened with ''Turtle Tunes'', which ended up treading most of the same ground as its predecessor, including reusing several of the same jokes from it.
** Annotators have done a ton of Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog related material, with Season 2 of Sonic [=SatAM=] being considered the official send-off, of course that didn't stop them from doing ''Sonic Christmas Blast'' in that year's December Intermission Month AND ''Project X Love Potion Disaster''[[labelnote:note]]a fan made Sonic-themed porn arcade game[[/labelnote]] two months later.
* SoBadItsGood: The general rationale for annotated material.
* SoOkayItsAverage:
** The general reaction to ''Beauty and Warrior'' was that, while it wasn't '''good''' in any sense of the word, it was mainly tedious and confusing rather than hilariously stupid.
** ''Jay's Life'' was posted just to stop Irrelevant from putting up more ''Nutshack'' and it was more lazy than offensive.
** The first season of ''[=Sonic SatAM=]'' wasn't seen as good enough for the Annotators to get into, but they felt it wasn't bad enough to make for good riffing. Averted with the second season, which was riffed/enjoyed a lot more.
** The ''Star Wars: Droids'' riff ended after episode 5 for the same reason.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: While a common gripe with the annotators in regards to the media they review (especially with Live-Action or AllCGICartoon material). Some of their videos have unintentionally slipped up on occasion.
** Episode 7 of ''Donkey Kong Country'' has about a minute of black after the episode ended. Naturally [[LampshadedTrope lampshaded]].
** The abrupt editing of certain commercials into the shows they mock can come off as such. Like suddenly switching between ''Series/UltramanEighty''[[note]]with a promotional feature of its monsters used here as a commercial[[/note]] to ''Spectreman'' [[note]]the show said commercial was attached to[[/note]] in one instance.
** The annotations themselves can either overlap one another, or get cut off mid-sentence. These mistakes tend to be fixed rather quickly, however.
* {{Squick}}:
** Simon Belmont tearing off Donkey Kong's toenail in an episode of ''Captain N''.
** The main girl character from "Tricky People" and the short skirt of her costume.
** King Koopa asking two minions to lick his feet in ''Super Show'' was creepy, yet memorable enough to become a running gag.
** Dex and Sunshine's relationship in ''Foodfight!'', for two reasons: one, because their voice actors are Charlie Sheen and Hilary Duff; and two, because of Sunshine's more human-like design compared to Dex.
** The constant subtext between Harry, Morrigan, and Felicia in ''Darkstalkers'', which the Annotators deliberately exaggerated.
** ''Chichi Miko!!''. All of it. Especially the ending where [[spoiler: the protagonist sleeps with his daughters, themselves the product of incest.]]
** A running gag is putting an asterisk where an animated animal's [[BarbieDollAnatomy anus would realistically be]]. Notably, at one point a larger annotation is put in expressly to prevent this from being done to ''[[CrossesTheLineTwice Felix the Cat]]''.
** ''Cans Without Labels'', in part due to it being John K. at his most unrestrained. The unfinished nature of the short didn't make matters any easier.
** Donkey Ollie's appearance after his fight with the jackals in ''The Adventures of Donkey Ollie'', to the point where he was censored out of one shot just to protect the annotators from having to see it more than they needed to.
** [[Creator/GaijinGoombah Aki Goomba]]'s design got this reaction from the annnotators right off the bat due to her [[FanDisservice over-sexualized]] nature.
* {{They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character}}: Some annotators saw the more cunning and dastardly Krusha seen in the DKC episode ''Speed'' as this from how he spiced up the dynamic among the cast by being {{Eviler Than Thou}} than K. Rool and Klump. To the point of wishing the episode didn't [[StatusQuoIsGod end with Krusha going back to his old self]] and instead the new Krusha would've continued to be present for at least a few more episodes.
* UglyCute:
** Annotators were touched when Eggplant Wizard helped King Hippo escape from the trap protecting the Triforce in ''Captain N'' season 2, episode 9.
** Those little round dragons from ''Captain N'' had a few 'awwws.'
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Oftentimes characters who are intended to be seen as unhelpful jerks end up being liked by the Annotators. Examples include Simon Belmont, Raiden, and Bluster Kong.
* ValuesDissonance: Since Germany is a lot laxer on censorship than America, many of the Annotators were surprised by how non-child friendly the Dingo Pictures films could be (for example, they thought ''Dinosaur Adventures'' was just trying to be edgy when the protagonists swore repeatedly).
* ViewerGenderConfusion: The Annotators couldn't tell that Pitfall Harry's niece was, well, a girl for the first half of the short due to the horrendous video quality.
* {{Wangst}}: People often accused Blanka of this in ''Street Fighter''.
* WinBackTheCrowd:
** After the fairly disappointing ''[=Sonic SatAM=]'' season 1 riff ended early, it was followed by three short riffs (burying the Nickelodeon time capsule, ''Pitfall'', and ''Backside To The Future'') which were absolutely hilarious and essentially gave the Annotators a HeroicSecondWind.
** History repeated itself shortly afterward when ''Star Wars: Droids'' ended early at five episodes and was replaced with ''Animation/CaptainPronin'', ''VideoGame/QBert'', and ''WesternAnimation/YoYogi''.
** The second season riff of ''[=Sonic SatAM=]'' was a lot more well-received than the previous season, as there was more for the Annotators to work off of.
* TheWoobie: Numerous characters are seen as this:
** Raiden in ''Defenders Of The Realm'', largely because the entire team except Nightwolf act like complete assholes to him all the time.
-->'''Jax''': Where's Raiden?
-->(''Raiden appears, revealing that he's survived the cave-in'')
-->'''Raiden''': (''sounding genuinely touched'') And I thought you didn't care...
-->'''Jax''': [[KickTheDog I don't]].
** Donkey Kong (gets treated like dirt by everyone else) and General Klump (is miserably lonely and suffers constantly).
** Hamsteere. The poor guy just can't get his freaking computer to work right.
** Santa in ''Christmas Comes to Pac-Land'' earned a lot of sympathy from the annotators.
** The father who gets turned into the MonsterOfTheWeek in episode three of ''Spectreman''. Even the Annotators admit to feeling bad for him.
