!! [[Film/{{Sunrise}} The Film]]:
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** During the visit to the barber, The Wife is hit on by a man who The Man subsequently threatens to murder with a switchblade. While it might foreshadow The Man having violent tendencies [[spoiler: which come out against The Woman From The City near the end]], it's still rather pointless.
** The entire chase with the pig at the amusement park, the only scene to not be about The Man and The Wife's relationship in some way.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: The Woman From The City barely had any screen time in the film, but Margaret Livingston's performance as the city vamp really made her count.
* EvilIsCool: The Woman from the City represents the dark part of women's traits, and it really shows. Not only is she an excellent schemer, she's also very attractive and came very close to hanging out with The Man.
* HollywoodHomely: Implied rather than stated outright, but given how utterly unpleasant she is (to the point of trying to incite murder) one can only assume it is the exotic beauty of the Woman From the City that has captivated the Man. Be that as it may, somewhat frumpy peasant fashions utterly fail to conceal Janet Gaynor's stunning movie star looks, making the Man seem both morally and physically blind.
* MemeticMutation: Nearly any scene involving The Woman From The City
** The woman standing against the moon twirling a flower in her hand.
** "Couldn't she be drowned?"
* TearJerker: When The Wife breaks down in the restaurant. It's guaranteed to break your heart.
** And when the Man [[spoiler: thinks The Wife is dead.]] That face is the face of a broken man.
