* AccidentalInnuendo: As mentioned on the DVDCommentary, Doug has expressed some embarrassment for one down shot in the opening which seems to be unintentionally pointing directly into [[WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick Lindsay]]'s cleavage.
* {{Adorkable}}: [[WebVideo/BadMovieBeatdown Film Brain]] and Kinley in their Film/HarryPotter costumes definitely qualify.
* AnticlimaxBoss: [[spoiler:Suede]], but then again, everyone was happy to see [[spoiler:him]], and vice-versa, so [[spoiler:he]] just basically let them win so they could [[spoiler:catch up on old times]].
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** Music/DannyElfman's ''Film/SpiderMan1'' theme works surprisingly well as an epic fantasy score in the teaser.
** The opening theme by Skitch and the song played over the credits, "Flights of Fantasy" by Sad Panda.
** And the rest is practically one long ad for [[http://www.musicloops.com/ MusicLoops]] and [[http://www.videocopilot.net/products/proscores/ ProScores]], especially Part 6.
* BestKnownForTheFanservice: A badass villain, Ma-Ti's death, dramatic writing... but even Rob thinks the whole movie was just his brother being shameless in a skirt.
* EvenBetterSequel: Many consider it better than ''WebVideo/{{Kickassia}}'', since it actually follows a full narrative arc and contains some genuine drama, as opposed to ''Kickassia's'' pure silliness.
* FanNickname:
** Fans were referring to [[HiddenAgendaVillain Orlando's character]] as "Matrix Hitchhiker", as did Bill, until his full name was revealed.
** The costumes bring up several, such as Spoondalf, [=San!Gurl=], King Linkur or Kingkara, Snow Lupa, and Indiana Snob (...or [=Jones!Jones=]).
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Film Brain's threatening to [[ThatCameOutWrong eat Kinsey's "pea-ness"]]. Six years later, Kinsey came out as transgender (specifically, male-to-female).
*** Kinley's enthusiasm in the role of [[Literature/HarryPotter Harry Potter]] is much harder to swallow in light of numerous transphobic statements that [[Creator/JKRowling J.K. Rowling]] has since made.
** The RunningGag around [[WebVideo/YouCanPlayThis JewWario's]] crotch, in light of allegations by at least two women accusing him of sexual assault. For that matter, just the fact that he's dressed as the Goblin King, a character rather infamous for his abduction of a baby and desire to marry a teenaged girl.
** Snob's statement to Elisa, given she both passed out while filming, and how seven years later, CA's higher-ups would be highlighted for mismanagement, and terrible attempts at apologies:
--->"And in conclusion to our strongly worded apology, we would appreciate it if you didn't hold us liable for any damages, injuries, property-wise or psychological."
** "Hey! If you don't go, you're all fired!"
** Seeing Doug in the Link outfit after hearing Doug's commentary. Having so little on and low temperatures caused Doug (who normally enjoys the cold) to feel as if he was being stabbed in the legs, concluding that the up skirt shot wasn't worth it, and hoping never to wear the costume again because it caused him nothing but pain.
** The HollywoodPudgy complaints Doug got about his legs are disheartening enough, but it just gets sad when you realize that his random blurts of thinking he's too fat only started after this movie.
** The twist of ''WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee'' [[spoiler:Ma-Ti becoming evil and wanting Critic to destroy the world]] makes everything from his TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to the Critic's grief over his death all the more painful.
** Rob's commentary talks about how he spent forty minutes coaxing Doug out of a nervous breakdown, including telling him that his {{workaholic}} “do everything myself” nature just isn't working out at all. The story ends with Doug growing up as a director and Rob being proud of him, but come ''WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee'' filming and beyond, Doug has proven again and again that he hasn't learned a thing about overworking himself.
** Also in his DVDCommentary, Rob acts very big brother–like and says while it was rough for both of them, he can get over how not getting what he wanted, but he felt awful for Doug because Doug's vision was "this one thing and he couldn't do it. He lost so much and I felt really bad for him". Sad enough, but heartbreaking when [[WebVideo/DemoReel another crushed vision of Doug's]] is taken into account.
** In Rob's commentary, he talked about Doug being too scared to go to the meeting (to decide if they should scrap the film) because he was afraid the crew would “mutiny” and hate him. While what happened in following years wasn't exactly “mutiny”, a lot like ''WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee'' the producers have talked about what a crappy experience doing the film was, mostly because Doug was just too self-absorbed to actually listen to issues they had.
** Mickey's "I'm gonna fucking kill you for this" look when Critic thinks up the goat porn excuse, because some fans kept calling Mickey a goat fucker for years afterwards, even when he said he didn't find it funny in the first place.
** The FriendshipMoment from the making-of special, in which the cast & crew all banded together to finish the project no matter what, is a bit harder to swallow now all of them (except Jones) have since left the site. To quote the Not So Awesome doc: "There was a sense of camaraderie there that was completely absent from ''To Boldly Flee''".
* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct:
** 8-bit Mickey, who has up till now been mostly a cameo-artist, has drawn this reaction now that he has a part big enough to properly judge him by.
** Bet you didn't know that Bhargav can actually act without injecting a barrel-load of ham into everything.
** As is usual with Doug, he gives himself a chance to shine when Critic reacts to [[spoiler: Ma-Ti's death]].
** Orlando brings a lot of legitimate menace and threat to Malachite. Every time he's on the screen, KnightOfCerebus kicks in with full power.
* HilariousInHindsight: In his commentary for his Fear and Loathing in [=ShadoCon=] video, Doug said that the [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Link]] costume tends to look really bad on men and is better off on women. Guess what he's wearing in this special and how people have [[{{squee}} reacted]] to it.
** In addition, Doug noted in his "Top 15 Comedic Influences" video, whilst talking about [[{{Film/Airplane}} Zucker]], [[Film/HotShots Abrahams]] and [[Film/TheNakedGun Zucker]], he notes that they should reunite and do a parody of franchise films like ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings''. Said film series is parodied plenty of times in this movie, and may well be the closest we'll see to such a film.
** When trying to dance around the subject of Critic showing his balls, Chick assumes he's just not familiar with skirts. Oh, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqxMjtZug-0 he is.]]
** The Critic said 8-Bit Mickey [[BlatantLies wanted goat porn]]. One year later, Mickey is a brony. Looks like Doug was half right!
** The fact that there's a female Link, and Critic is ''still'' wearing less than [[http://i2.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/019/263/linleeee.JPG her.]]
** In Rob's commentary, he lightly teased Doug for having no clue how to write {{rousing speech}}es, instead just rambling until he thinks he gets to a point. Fast forward to Critic reboot with the ''many'' speeches that a lot of people really don't like for various reasons, and you can see what Rob means.
** Malachite bears a quite striking resemblance to Reverb from ''Series/TheFlash2014''.
** One of ways Joe fucks up the "MyNameIsInigoMontoya, YouKilledMyFather" line is when he says ''"Hamster"'' instead of ''"Father"''. Now replace the former word with ''[[Film/JohnWick "Dog"]]''.
** Doug would go on to become a big fan of [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse a series that had another evil character named Malachite]].
** Doug's Master Sword breaking in its first real fight seemed to come right out of nowhere, until 2017 when Nintendo released ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild Breath of the Wild]]'' with its frequent weapon breaking game mechanic.
* IAmNotShazam: Marzgurl refers to herself as "Princess Mononoke." Doug, who isn't a huge anime fan, wrote the script and she barely had enough time to convert her dialogue to Japanese, preventing her from correcting this error.
* IKnewIt: It was obvious to everyone somewhere late into the film that [[spoiler:Ma-Ti is the only one to defeat Malachite, due to the "pure of heart" arc words repeated frequently. What viewers DIDN'T count on was Ma-Ti getting killed off!]]
* JerkassWoobie: Critic's an asshole, but as usual he's still pathetic and gets dominated enough to balance it out. You can also almost, if not completely, forgive him for mistreating Ma-Ti when you see how broken he is over the latter's [[spoiler:death]].
* LGBTFanbase: This was the first anniversary special to get one, with lots of HoYay, male-given fan service and Doug being very happy in his commentary that both fangirls and fanboys found his crotch shot appealing.
* {{Misblamed}}: Marzgurl's ever-so-slightly-off Japanese was met with a massive backlash from viewers who felt it was extremely disrespectful. While she had ''some'' excuse with the short turn-around time barely giving her a chance to translate the script properly, it's safe to assume that none of these viewers also know that she has a degree in Japanese and has actually taught classes on the language. Rob Walker fired back in his DVDCommentary by calling the complainers weeaboos.
* {{Narm}}: As hilarious as the battle in part 3 is, there's only 3 Cloaks and about ten reviewers. Once you realize it, it gets kinda silly... well, sillier.
** Lampshaded in a few of the commentaries.
--->'''Lewis''': You know, there are three of them and ten of you, you could just team up and tackle them.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Even though he was absent in the ''WebVideo/TGWTGYearOneBrawl'' and first appeared in a yearly crossover in ''WebVideo/{{Kickassia}}'', Phelous was one of the earliest additions to the site, and thus [[spoiler:was on the site while Suede was still there. Lupa, Handsome Tom and 8-bit Mickey are the only ones in the Critic's group to postdate his departure]].
* OneSceneWonder: The girl using a cellphone [[spoiler:who Malachite kills]] (played by one of Doug's ex-girlfriends) got quite some attention from the fandom, ever since her ''one second'' appearance in the trailer.
-->'''Doug in the DVDCommentary:''' To answer the two most frequent questions I get, yes, I am aware she looks like Creator/KirstenDunst, and no, she is not available. She's married now. So... ya' missed it. Sorry.
* SpecialEffectFailure: Jaffers and the Cloaks have some awfully wobbly swords for their supposed lethality.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong:
** An 8-bit version of the ''Franchise/IndianaJones'' theme plays when the Cinema Snob shows off his costume. Obviously, the original is copyrighted and a production team of this budget would never be able to acquire the rights to use it.
*** An orchestrated version pops up during his parts in the big fight scene.
* UnfortunateCharacterDesign: Bennett White's costume is laughably humiliating. According to the commentaries, wearing it was actually painful because the fake fur kept falling off and getting stuck in his sinuses, and Iron Liz says it was actually even ''worse'' before the tail fell off from being stepped on one too many times, since its positioning at the bottom of the suit rather than the tailbone made it look like a penis.
** Phelous's Rockbiter costume also got mocked plenty in-universe.
* TheUntwist:
** Everybody and their maiden aunt predicted that the gauntlet would turn out of be the Power Glove (and the joke that followed) from pretty much the first episode.
** Also, Ma-Ti being the one to defeat Malachite, [[spoiler:though no-one predicted the price that was paid along with it.]]
*** Though in his commentary, Linkara says he thinks this is actually a good thing, since it means the twist makes sense and was properly built up. And hey, who knows how many people would have predicted it if they didn't have 24 hours between each episode to come up with theories?
* TheWoobie: Poor [[spoiler:Ma-Ti]].
