1	* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: In ''Vampire Journals'': was Iris scolding Ash for being StupidEvil for [[spoiler:killing Anton]] really about worrying that he'd bring the police to the club doorstep, or did she actually think he went too far? She looks disgusted with Ash as he does the deed and later [[spoiler:sells him out to Zachery]], so it seems entirely possible that she was just trying to talk to him from a pragmatic point of view.
2	* BadassDecay: Not that he was that much of a badass to begin with, but Radu becomes more and more ridiculous as the movies go on. From the terrifying lord of darkness in the first movie to getting his ass kicked by scared young women.
3	* CompleteMonster: [[AristocratsAreEvil Ash]] the "[[WickedCultured music lover]]", from ''The Vampire Journals'' and ''Subspecies IV: Bloodstorm'', is the progeny of Radu Vladislas and considerably crueler than his former master. Ash runs a casino and brothel where willing consorts are brought in for the vampires to feed upon, though they are considered expendable and replaceable, often killed by either the vampires or unruly customers. Ash himself frequently traverses the night to kill innocents in defiance of King Vladislas's own edicts. Upon becoming enraptured with the pianist Sofia, Ash painfully bends her to his will with repeated feedings and promises of suffering should she resist. Just as much a cruel tyrant to his own family, Ash murders his fledgling Anton after forcing Anton to kill his only friend for the crime of holding money back. When the vampire Zachary tries to save Sofia, Ash honors his vow to let Zachary "see" Sofia by exposing Zachary's true nature to the girl, just before he tries to go back on their deal and see Zachary murdered as he sleeps.
4	* CultClassic: The films are regarded as a cult classic in some circles for filming in Romania (a first for an American production) and establishing the proper creepy atmosphere that is often found lacking in vampire films.
5	* DracoInLeatherPants: Radu has quite a few fangirls who like to ship him and Michelle, focusing solely on his sympathetic qualities. Never mind that he's a textbook stalker who tries to corrupt Michelle and turn her against her family and friends.
6	* EvenBetterSequel:''Bloodstone: Subspecies 2'' is considered by many to be not only better then the first movie, but the best in the series.
7	** Subspecies V: Blood Rise has a much better recpetion with fans then ''Bloodstorm'' or Vampire Journals. Some go as far as saying it is on the same level as ''Bloodstone: Subspecies 2''
8	* HilariousInHindsight: In ''Bloodlust'' when Mel is reading to Rebecca about King Vladislas history, Rebecca makes a comment of him sounding like a monster to which Mel responds "Actually he was the good guy". This becomes funny in Subspecies 5, where Kevin Blair who played Mel, would play King Vladislas.

Murdering an innocent Romani man and seeking to rape his daughter before she is rescued by Radu's good-hearted younger half-brother Stefan, Radu launches an attack on Kronescu, intending on massacring everyone in the area and the castle before [[BadBoss draining his loyal commander of blood]] just to have the strength to [[CainAndAbel fight Stefan]] at an advantage. Radu later has the woman Stefan loves, Mariah, savaged fatally by his Subspecies, [[CardCarryingVillain relishing in his vampiric nature]] and mocking Stefan for thinking he can be a moral figure.
