* {{Adorkable}}:
** [=ShiddyKat's=] complete and endearing ignorance towards video games in general in slowbeef's Wifestream series could be seen as this.
** Blister and his corny jokes during the Metroid Prime series for sure.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: [[{{InUniverse}} He is fond of doing it]]. Many of these examples are from the ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'' series.
** Ridley seems to be the favorite target of slowbeef and co-commentators. He's a forum {{troll}}, ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' fan, mall cop, [[RailEnthusiast train engineer and enthusiast]], sitcom star, overworked voice actor, rock collector, owner of his own hotel/resort/casino, guest commentator Vicas's boss, General Ironicus' fiancee, and [[LetsPlay/FreelanceAstronauts Ferr's]] grandmother -- all with a screechy {{Joisey}} accent.
** The Lava Clam (FanNickname of the Puddle Spore in ''Metroid Prime'') [[invoked]] is an {{Expy}} of [[Franchise/WinnieThePooh Eeyore]].
** From ''Metroid Prime 2'':
*** Amorbis is three WesternAnimation/{{Goofy}}-voiced light-show performers who take MesACrowd to annoying extremes.
*** Chykka is... [[SubvertedTrope well...]]
---->'''slowbeef:''' [[DespairEventHorizon Do I have to make a funny voice for this boss?]] [[NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent Hey, I'm Chykka. I'm terrible.]]
*** Rezbit, 'Vinnie the Virus', is a huge nerd until you ''make him angry''.
---->'''Diabetus:''' I'm Vinnie the Virus! I've got a shield, oooh. I represent the future of technology. ''(disables Samus' Power Suit)'' '''DON'T FUCK WITH VINNIE THE VIRUS.'''
*** The Quad enemies in Sanctuary Fortress are ballerinas.
** In the ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid'' [[GameMod Justin]] [[{{Stripperiffic}} Bailey]] LP, Samus is a ValleyGirl/Stripper, Crocomire an {{Otaku}} shut-in, Draygon an adulterer and Ridley is a forum troll who's also into online dating.
** In ''VideoGame/MetroidFusion'', Adam is a GiverOfLameNames.
** During the LP of ''Dead to Rights'', he said that this was how "Slate Views the World" when the [=NPCs=] were all named "Target".
** In the ''Dead to Rights: Retribution'' LP, slowbeef interprets Shadow as a demon dog who can teleport, and Jack as an UnreliableNarrator telling his story in every single detail to Faith.
* ArcFatigue: The length of the ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime'' trilogy takes its toll on him. When he manages to get [=Proteus4994=] to guest on a ''Corruption'' video, many of his comments are incredulous that slowbeef is ''still'' playing it.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: [=ShiddyKat=], slowbeef's wife. Some people love her for her snarky wit and [[LikeAnOldMarriedCouple interactions with slowbeef]], other people find her significant lack of video game metaknowledge and skill irritating and wish slowbeef would stop bringing her into his streams.
* BizarroEpisode: In [[http://bd.baldurk.org/1660 this video]] the commentary turns into a heated Mac vs. PC debate between slowbeef and guest [=Proteus4994=], respectively.
* CantUnHearIt: slowbeef's Ridley voice is this for quite a few fans.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: The final episode of ''VideoGame/DarkSouls''. After he was harassed through the whole LP over his accidental killing of Eingyi, slowbeef goes back to Quelaag's Sister in NewGamePlus after getting the Old Witch's Ring. He listens to her dialogue, [[spoiler:and then clubs her and Eingyi to death with the Demon's Great Hammer]].
* DiscreditedMeme: ZigZaggedTrope. Slowbeef mentions in a Retsutalk that he's starting to get sick of the Ridley voice; when he uses it again in an informal "race" of ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid'' and Ragny calls him out on this, Slowbeef's response is (still in the Ridley voice, of course): "Screw that!"
* FanNickname: Was nicknamed "Comrade Slowbeef" by some Russian fans who assured others he had the Policenauts translation hack under control.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Quite a few in his ''VisualNovel/{{Policenauts}}'' screenshot LP
** Finding that Marc Laidlaw snuck in a reference to his pal [[WebVideo/{{Retsupurae}} Dave_o]] during a conversation the player has with the character Dave Forrest. Slowbeef had asked about it but figured there was nowhere it would fit in. It did have the side effect of Slowbeef forever thinking of Dave having Dave_o's voice.
** Meeting and taking a photo with a Jonathan Ingram cosplayer at PAX. Especially Slowbeef's glee at finding that said cosplayer even had Jonathan's badge, cigarette and the photo of Jonathan and Lorraine (although he wasn't allowed to bring the gun.)
** His special thanks to everyone in the thread and his especial thanks to Artemio Urbina for being the center of the Policenauts Translation Project to begin with.
** His hope that Creator/HideoKojima will give a nod to, or at least know about said translation.
** Slowbeef manages to not get terribly attached to most of the doomed cast of ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'', but when he realizes that he has to fight and kill [[spoiler: Knight Solaire]], his reaction is "The second half of Dark Souls sucks!" It's very easy to tell that he was genuinely upset by it.
** Pretty much any time he talks about his daughter. His ''VideoGame/TouhouChireidenSubterraneanAnimism'' 1cc stream has him turning the game's story into a bedtime story for his daughter.
*** Also: her [[CutenessProximity absolutely adorable]] babbling in his brief ''VideoGame/{{Vectorman}}'' stream, particularly when she imitating a motorboat (and slowbeef does likewise).
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFYLx8l1fBE After Slowbeef discovered he couldn't get Alien: Isolation to work...]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDkfAwmJVa0&t=0s This moment]] from his Earthbound LP.
* HilariousInHindsight: Diabetus in particular has a rather uncanny ability to make jokey predictions that turn out at least partially true.
** In the ''Metroid Prime'' Let's Play, Diabetus jokingly says he'd like to see Samus in ''VideoGame/DeadOrAlive''. Then came the news of [[http://www.gamedynamo.com/article/showarticle/646/en/Metroid_Stage_in_Dead_or_Alive_Dimensions_for_3DS a Metroid themed stage in Dead or Alive: Dimensions.]]
** At one point Diabetus points out that they're getting the Grapple Beam awfully late, considering Samus started the game with it. "You've beaten Metroid Prime! Your prize: the Grapple Beam!" Compare this with the way Power Bombs are actually treated in ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM'' (unavailable until you're literally in the belly of the FinalBoss).
** Also, ''Other M'''s reveal that hearing Ridley's voice is enough to turn Zebesians, among other creatures, violent. Yeah, we can see why.
** Another one is Slowbeef predicting that the Phazon suit will do a ComicBook/{{Venom}}-type thing and turn into an evil version of Samus that you have to fight. Guess what the Metroid Prime uses to turn itself into Dark Samus.
** Near the end of the first ''Prime'' game, slowbeef, Diabetus, and Vicas make jokes about Samus getting malware. Come Sanctuary in ''Echoes'', she does [[InterfaceScrew get malware]].
** His comments on ''Other M'' become hilarious, since he did a WebVideo/{{Retsupurae}} of the CompilationMovie unlocked after beating the game.
** While Diabetus is struggling with a boss in his Metroid Fusion LP (which was recorded during slowbeef's Metroid Prime LP) slowbeef smugly points out that he hasn't died three times to a boss yet. This is true [[spoiler:until the Dark Aurora Unit, which takes him ''six'' tries to kill.]]
** In the LP of the first ''VideoGame/DeadToRights'', the duo have a lot of fun [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation interpreting]] [[CowboyCop Jack Slate]] as a bloodthirsty sociopath. In ''Dead to Rights: Retribution'', that's pretty much his canon personality.
** In ''Dead to Rights: Retribution'', both slowbeef and Diabetus joke about the game being a harsh satire of modern military shooters. Just a year later, ''VideoGame/SpecOpsTheLine'' would do exactly that.
* JustHereForGodzilla: After the ''Corruption'' LP was uploaded to Website/YouTube, the most watched video by far is the Omega Ridley battle, with five times the hits of the videos immediately before and after it. There are also minor peaks for the Meta Ridley fight in the first game and the Amorbis fight in the second.
* MemeticBadass: His portrayal of [[CanineCompanion Shadow]] in the ''Dead to Rights'' games due to his ability to tear mooks apart and ability to do just about anything Jack tells him to.
* MemeticMutation: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-_tdMzXpbs One particularly humorous death]] in ''VideoGame/DarkSouls''.
* ParodyDisplacement: As discussed in one of LetsPlay/ProtonJon's [=LPs=], Slowbeef's Ridley voice is now known to some people unaware of where it comes from (an exaggerated version of Ricardo Irving's voice from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil5''). One likely cause is its frequent use in Retsupurae videos hosted on [=YouTube=], while the Metroid [=LPs=] remained on less-traveled video hosting sites until 2013.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Arguably Toffile, who made his first ''Metroid Prime'' LP appearance as a straight man to Khad. His appearances in the ''Echoes'' LP were far better, as he served as a knowledgeable and effective guide while telling enough straight-faced lies to make "Toffile lied!" a RunningGag.
* TheScrappy: Khad, according to slowbeef. He was unfortunate enough to make his debut in the Metroid Prime LP in a video that ran through a gamut of technical difficulties. In fact, around 80% of the video is composed of Khad complaining about his audio and slowbeef hurling insults at him.
** This is exacerbated by Khad's growing Scrappy status on Website/SomethingAwful in general, even to a point of gaining the ire of [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Blister]], of all people, shown in his TheReasonYouSuckSpeech during [[http://bd.baldurk.org/1783#title this ill-attempted Retsupurae of Diabetus's Metroid Fusion LP with Khad]] (at the 2-minute mark).
** When he appeared on Retsutalk, [=MegaManNG=]/[=MegaJose=] was fairly divisive. However, his appearance on slowbeef's Sonic 2006 stream was almost universally reviled, due to his excessive anger at the game, obnoxiously loud voice, tendency to cut off the other guests, and a whole host of other problems.
* {{Squick}}: As explained in supplemental parts of his ''VisualNovel/{{Policenauts}}'' LP, he had this feeling when learning about how the player character could grope various women throughout the game, including Ed Brown's "young adult" daughter. It almost got to the point he considered quitting the project. Eventually it turned out it wasn't as bad as he feared and he decided to press on with programming the translation anyhow, feeling it wasn't his place to decide what players can and can't see.
* SpoiledByTheFormat: The Omega Pirate battle in ''Metroid Prime'' begins with about eighteen minutes left into the video, and brings him and Samus close to death with a good eight minutes left. [[spoiler:Omega Pirate dies two minutes later. The last six minutes are blank filler inserted just to subvert the trope.]]
--> '''Diabetus:''' You've created the most suspenseful LetsPlay ever.
** Comes up when slowbeef occasionally uses post-commentary for boss fights in his ''Bloodbourne'' playthrough, where Diabetus will point out that the very fact that they're doing post-commentary is a dead giveaway that this will be the successful attempt at it, noting how weird it would be if this ''wasn't'' the successful run.
