* AdaptationDisplacement: Most people who have heard of this series are unaware of the fact it began as a series of shorts created for the AnimatedAnthology WesternAnimation/Funpak.
* CrossoverShip: One AMV paired Trevor with Mandy due to both being the Token Evil Teammates of their respective series. The video also used Eris and Mr. Troublemeyer/Master XOX to represent them as adults.
* CultClassic: While the show did receive quite a bit of backlash for its SadistShow qualities and usage of ToiletHumor, it managed to develop a decent-sized PeripheryDemographic who consider it an underrated series due to the way it parodied the superhero genre, the numerous cool superpowers and gadgets that appear throughout the show, the romantic relationships between the show's characters, the solid animation and visual gags, and the underlying satire of authoritarianism and classism represented through the relationship between supers and sidekicks. As such, plenty of fans hope for a reboot that would better utilize said aspects while downplaying the hated aspects.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Mandy Struction for being a morally ambiguous yet ultimately nice girl who happens to be one of the few people who's kind to Eric. Being voiced by Creator/StaceyDePass, one of the most popular voice actresses of the Toronto pool, certainly helps.
** Savannah Glama is incredibly popular despite only appearing in one episode, for being one of the few characters who actually managed to give Vana some comeuppance throughout her episode, and also for her form-fitting bodysuit and attractive design.
** Even those who hate the show will usually admit that Master XOX is one of the best parts of it, due to him being a LaughablyEvil villain who steals the show in every scene he's in, as well possessing an actually sympathetic (no mean feat in a cast full of Jerkasses) and friendly alter ego in Mr. Martin Troublemeyer. The fact that he's voiced by Creator/RonRubin is another bonus in the eyes of many.
* FanPreferredCouple: Eric/Kitty seems to be preferred over Eric/Vana and Eric/Mandy, despite it being made clear that Eric does not return Kitty's feelings and would clearly prefer to be with Vana or Mandy.
%%* JerkassWoobie: Eric or Kitty at times, when they aren't full-on woobies.
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Eric has been paired with Vana, Kitty, Mandy and even Trevor, believe it or not.
* Moe: The main four characters all look quite cute, in part thanks to their designs. Even Trevor. Kitty however is generally seen as the most adorable of the bunch due to being one of the nicer characters on the show, having gigantic crush on Eric, and possessing the distinctive adorable voice of many Creator/DeniseOliver characters.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Teric = Trevor/Eric.
* RootingForTheEmpire: With Splitsboro being such a nasty place where the supposed superheroes constantly abuse their Kid Sidekicks, rooting for Master XOX or any of the other villains to take over the place isn't such an unreasonable opinion.
* TheScrappy: A lot of fans dislike Vana for her rudeness and elitism, especially when around Eric and Kitty, which makes her come off as a bit of an alpha bitch. Such moments that make her so unlikeable is treating Kitty like a slave and her running gag of pummeling Eric, whenever he does something dorky.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The show has its fans, but among Creator/Nelvana's creations and Creator/YTV's originals, the series is overall considered a pretty alright show within many contexts.
** The general consensus among people who don't vocally love it or loathe it. While its agreed by many that the show had some wasted potential and ideas of questionable execution and sometimes went too far in being a SadistShow and using ToiletHumor, it's also agreed by most to be nowhere near as bad as it could have been either and did manage to be genuinely very entertaining pretty often, with its cool superheroes/villains, their various superpowers, their technology and weapons, engaging romances, lampooning of superheroes, neat visuals, and social criticism giving it some appeal. This is especially true when compared to WesternAnimation/AlmostNakedAnimals, which premiered alongside Sidekick on Creator/CartoonNetwork back in 2011 and is mostly considered to be a very bad show by those who saw it.
** Even among the various series featured on Funpak, the general consensus by those who have seen them was that Sidekick was the most average in quality of all the choices viewers had for a full series - not the best to be made into a half-hour TV show, but certainly not the worst either.
** Even among Todd Kauffman's three shows (the other two being WesternAnimation/Grojband and WesternAnimation/Looped), it was pretty much the most middle-of-the-road of the three, with Grojband becoming much more popular and well-received in comparison (although even it has very vocal detractors) and Looped having much more mixed-to-negative reception.
* ShipToShipCombat: Between Eric/Kitty, Eric/Vana, and Eric/Mandy.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Maxum Man's disappearance. Despite being part of the show's premise, absolutely no effort is ever made by Eric or any of the other characters to find him, and it has little to no impact in most episodes or the overall setting. Some have stated that they felt the series finale should have focused on addressing this.
** Others believe that the show's episodic format ruins a lot of potential story arcs since it doesn't allow for certain stories to progress, (i.e. the search for Maxum Man, Trevor's descent into villainy, Eric, Kitty, and Vana's love triangle, etc.) as the show is never allowed to venture past where everything was at the very start. Even a mildly serialized story could have told us many stories involving finding Maxum Man and learning why he left, Trevor becoming a full-time villain, people finding out XOX's secret identity, Eric realizing he doesn't like Vana, Eric getting together with Kitty, the sidekicks eventually achieving the same greatness as the heroes they're taking after, etc.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: The show can carry a surprisingly pessimistic tone for a kids' cartoon that makes it difficult for some to get invested in it, especially since the whole universe and nearly everyone in it seems to be incredibly cruel towards protagonist Eric on an almost constant for often very little reason. And even then, Eric himself has a nasty streak every now and then.
* TheWoobie: Eric. He has no parents, Maxum Man abandoned him, and everyone in town treats him like garbage (to the point where they made a holiday about beating him up). He isn't even allowed to see his true love, Mandy Struction.
* UglyCute: Trevor isn't as cute as Eric or Kitty, or as attractive as Vana, but his Gonk unique facial features make him look strangely endearing when combined with the show's Moe-ish art style.
