* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Shara. You either love her sweet InnocentFlowerGirl personality or think it's a lie whenever she shows a different side to her.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: The residents of Sharance and their eccentric behaviors. Some people like how quirky and crazy many of the residents are, while other people find the villagers to be too insane.
** Shara, for the same reasons. And because she's the canon love interest (and a member of the SpotlightStealingSquad because of it) and gets more focus than the other girls in the second opening. But she gets a lot less flack for your relationship with her being less forced than the other groups.
* BrutalBonusLevel: Sharance Maze's final floors. If you go there underprepared ''regular'' enemies will easily one-shot you, let alone bosses.
* CaptainObviousReveal: Daria's confession to Micah that she's an elf. Micah's reaction treats this as a legit shock. Her character sprite says "What did you expect?"
* CharacterTiers: Up to you to decide, but some of the villagers don't seem to be as useful as the others in a fight, due to their attacking AI.
** Raven is probably in the top tier, what with her fast melee attacks, fireball spam, ability to heal, innate fire resistance and [[spoiler: transformation into her phoenix form]] for even MORE fireball spam.
** Pia wins a spot near the top solely for her weapon being ''a giant tuna''. It's actually pretty helpful, too.
** Shara is relegated to being TheMedic. If you bring her out, she mostly stands back and heals you.
** Collette's tendency to throw you food items can be helpful-- until you realize that some foods have negative effects like poisoning or paralyzing you. Though if you equip a Talisman, status effects get reversed (you recover HP from poison and can move faster when paralyzed, for example), so they can ''help'' you.
** Zaid seems to be the local equivalent of Leeroy Jenkins. His AI tends to be far too aggressive, leading to AttackAttackAttack and him [[SuicidalOverconfidence charging into groups of enemies and fainting quickly.]]
** [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway RAINBOW! RAINBOW! RAINBOW!]]
* DemonicSpider:
** Early on any enemy capable of using magic is a serious threat. Due to the lack of elemental damage resisting gear until you level up your Crafting skill you might take a heck of a lot more damage even when non-elemental attacks could be barely touching your HP bar.
** The big, beefy enemies that don't flinch when taking hits. If your equipment is not on par with the level requirement they can hit you for over 1/3 of your health.
** The Spirit family of monsters and the "Crop Ghosts", which [[SpamAttack spam the screen with projectiles]]. On top of hurting quite a bit with their magic and they also have the obnoxious tendency to keep their distance and disappear for several seconds making you lose track of them which is very annoying if you focus mostly on melee combat.
** Dragon enemies that thankfully only show up in the final dungeon and the latter dungeons of Sharance Maze. These things hit very hard, have a potent fire breath attack and can inflict the ever annoying Dizzy status effect.
* DifficultySpike: Sharance Maze's raise in difficulty in its two final dungeons, Dragon Ruins and Mystery Maze, is essentially ''vertical''. The Grimoire, the previous toughest challenge had 3 floors, the final ones? [[spoiler:'''12''' and '''''20''''' floors]]. To top that the final two bosses of Dragon Ruins [[spoiler:are Terrable and Fiersome, the final bosses of the previous two games.]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Although she's not the canon heroine Raven has found considerable popularity amongst the fanbase, with much more fanart of her produced than the other characters.
** Gaius is also pretty popular due to his NiceGuy personality and laidback nature. He also likes to tease Micah with some rather flirtatious commentaries which is hilarious and brings up certain possibilities that he may be bisexual.
** [[http://game-pit.jp/wiki/rf3/ A JP wiki on the game]] ran a poll asking users to vote for their favorite heroine: most of the other ladies scored in the 300s, while Raven and Pia scored 1400+ and 900+ votes respectively.
** Pia, Sofia, and Daria, all have their dedicated fanbase due to their quirkiness and being unique in their own way. Pia due to her {{Cloudcuckoolander}} nature and overall sweetness. Sofia has her opposite speaking habit and a very SpoiledSweet nature. Daria is popular due to being a LargeHam artist who also has a secret mature side that comes out when Micah reveals his wooly form.
** Evelyn is one of the characters that many were disappointed she could not be married. At least fans love to see [[ShipTease Evelyn with Gaius]].
* GameBreaker: [[GameBreaker/RuneFactory3 Enough examples to warrant its own page.]]
* GoddamnBats:
** Scorpions and Mushroom enemies love to spread ailments like Poison to you and your party. While Poison is not the end of the world it's a very debilitating condition early on and they're usually the reason why players tend to keep at least a few Antidote Herbs handy during early game.
** Spider enemies have a VERY annoying web attack that reduces your running speed to a crawl. It's not bad in Privera Forest, but in Oddward Valley it can be problematic as you might face much more aggressive and dangerous enemies.
* GoddamnedBoss:
** Skelefang/Ancient Bones is an annoying fight due to the fact you must always expose its core in order to damage it and even when you do the boss will quickly recover from it forcing you to restart the whole thing.
** Bane Dragon loves to teleport around leaving very short windows to be attack and even then you have to be careful lest you get caught in one of its dangerous attacks.
** Siren is another teleporting boss that loves to make the fight drag on for longer than it should. You also have to be careful because her singing attack can inflict all sorts of StatusEffects, including the dreaded [[OneHitKill Faint]].
** Fiersome spends a large portion of the fight flying around and you cannot attack until it lands. To make matters worse every time the boss lands it causes many shockwaves that can severely wound you and the shockwaves increase in number once the boss TurnsRed.
* GrowingTheBeard: ''Rune Factory 3'' is usually considered a huge leap in quality compared to its previous titles. Combat is more fluid, character stats and growing are more diverse, you can now invite people to form a party and date bachelorettes as well. Combined with many small quality of life changes, such as being able to pick several items of the same type, made it one of the stronger entries in the franchise.
* HollywoodPudgy:
** One of Carmen's (Ion's) quests involves her asking what sorts of girls you like. One question is if you prefer plump or slender girls, and she's happiest if you say you like plump girls. She must be talking plump in the chest, because she's ''certainly'' not plump in the waist!
** Almost all of the girls will spend Beach Day (and the rest of the summer whenever they're in swimsuits) bemoaning recent weight gain and worrying that their suit is tighter than last year, despite all of their sprites being quite visibly petite.
* HoYay:
** With Carlos and Micah. Give him a gift he loves on his birthday and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4PwYZ3CHaQ he'll ask if he can kiss you]] (though you do decline). Not to mention when he tells the main character to stare at him instead of the ladies during the Beach Festival, although that could be him making sure you're not looking at [[MySisterIsOffLimits his sister]].
** Gaius and Micah. Giving him a valuable ore prompts him to ask if there's "any hidden meaning to this", with Micah becoming visibly flustered. His responses to your "proposal" are similarly teasing. To say nothing about some of the times he openly teases Micah out of the blue.
** Zaid is also very fond of Micah, trying to get him to go on "manly" adventures, demanding you compliment his eyes, and getting flustered rather than insulted if you 'propose.' Maybe it's a dwarven thing?
** For LesYay, we have Shara and Raven constantly telling Micah how cute and special the other is and Shara's PseudoRomanticFriendship with Kuruna. Collette and Marian also spend a lot of time together and if Micah woos one, she'll comment on how she normally dreams of the other. Raven is also pretty close to Karina and Sofia, and one could even make a case for Pia and Sakuya.
* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: A common complaint in ''Special'' is the fact it's a bit ''too'' faithful to the original game having almost none of the Quality of Life changes presented in later installments.
* MemeticMutation:
** '''[[{{Mondegreen}} "FRY HIRE! FRY HIRE!]]''' [[{{Engrish}} Ret Rings of Rove Come Frying Over Me!"]]
** '''RAINBOW!!'''
* {{Moe}}: Pia and almost every girl from this game could fit into this category.
* {{Narm}}:
** [[spoiler:If you marry Raven, it is possible to trigger her birth cutscene when she is in phoenix form. Impossible not to laugh as she groans, and Micah rushes her to the clinic.]]
*** [[spoiler: It is also possible to propose to her while in phoenix form. For an added laugh, have Micah give her the ring while he's in wooly form as well.]]
** While there's nothing wrong with the game's inherent premise of uniting long-feuding factions, the actual angst about the conflict between the monsters and humans seems massively overblown, given that the univir look basically exactly the same as the human characters, and Sharance already hosts three non-human citizens who aren't treated any differently than their human counterparts. [[spoiler:Four, when counting Raven, but her personal angst over her half-monster identity are at least rooted in sincere trauma and loss that are unrelated to humans.]] This becomes HilariousInHindsight when playing later games, as the non-human and half-monster love interests practically start to outnumber their human rivals.
* TheScrappy:
** Both Shara and Kuruna aren't very well liked among players, the former for two reasons: The game pushing her as the canon love interest and her very sudden, random, and unexpected personality shift into a ClingyJealousGirl post-marriage, and Kuruna for being the typical [=JRPG=] racist elf who constantly whines about how HumansAreTheRealMonsters and having little else to her.
*** The ''Special'' edition of the game did see their reputations marginally improve, with many of Shara's unprovoked jabs toward Micah being removed in favor of improving her image as a gentle and caring friend and neighbor, while Kuruna's dialogue focuses more on her desire to explore and the weight of her responsibilities than her whining about humans. Additionally, Kuruna received a ton of flak in the original version for her response once Micah reveals his true identity[[note]]"Traitor."[[/note]], but the remaster has her simply ask him to leave her alone.
** Marian had a similar tendency to rank low in popularity polls, due to her abusive friendship with Collette (who outright states dismally to Micah that she [[StockholmSyndrome simply got used to Marian's painful and invasive experimentation]], and that he'll start to feel that way too), her lack of remorse for all of the trouble she puts Micah through (which includes ''regularly drugging him without his consent into mind control''), and her lack of serious personal development through her romance arc -- which involves her bemoaning that nobody takes her seriously as a witch, even though she does absolutely nothing to earn their trust or respect. She's canonically so dangerous that she's run her grandmother's once-famous apothecary into the ground, and most residents would rather be on the brink of death than turn to her for aid.
** A non-love interest example is Zaid. Not only is he a nigh-useless party member, with a habit of charging into foes and immediately getting defeated, but his brusque, rude demeanor and tendency to take credit for Micah's achievements in order to impress Kuruna make him an extremely unpopular character.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Bulk crafting is impossible even if your chance of crafting said item is 100% and to make things worse you cannot skip the long crafting animation of the 0% to 100% gauge filling in the original. This is slightly less cumbersome in ''Special'' as this version does let you skip the crafting animation, but you still can't craft things in large quantities.
** The Dizzy status effect. It's one of the most annoying in the game, as there's no way to break out from it once it happens, it's difficult to prevent, and it's almost guaranteed to happen right when the player needs to heal Micah, causing many frustrating knockouts when the boss targets Micah right when he's totally unable to defend himself.
** Villager party members can have only 1 accessory equipped at a time which makes very difficult to protect them against the many dangerous things in Sharance Maze, you have to either give them a very good protective accessory which hurts their damage potential, or have them use something to boost their damage which in turn has them becoming [[GlassCannon Glass Cannons]]. Unlike ''[[VideoGame/RuneFactory4 Rune Factory 4 Special]]'' you cannot give them commands to stand back either, so if you find yourself in an awkward situation where your ally's attacks are healing the enemy you'll have to either let them get KO'd, outdamage your own partner or send them back home.
* SidetrackedByTheGoldSaucer: It's very easy to get caught up in grinding for items in the [[RandomlyGeneratedLevels Sharance Maze levels]] once you unlock them.
* SoOkayItsAverage: In contrast to ''[[VideoGame/RuneFactory4 Rune Factory 4 Special]]'''s celebrated Newlywed Mode, this remaster's version was criticized for being okay at best and disappointingly repetitive and needlessly difficult at worst. Whereas its predecessor's Newlywed Mode involved unique quests and objectives, every episode of this version's (except Shara's) involves the exact same situation: the selected wife wants to make or do something unique that requires Micah doing a FetchQuest three separate times to gather materials, usually a high number (up to 9 in some objectives). Some of these materials are [[ItemDropMechanic monster drops]] that have ''abysmal'' drop rates, while others are rare fish that are extremely difficult to catch when considering Micah's low, hamstrung stats in Newlywed Mode. Furthermore, all fields in the game are tilled for no reason (making it hard to gather the bamboo shoots and red grass involved in two of the quests), and the shops revert back to their base stock, so all of the requested vegetables have to be grown by hand in a seasonal dungeon. Some fans were also disappointed by the special cutscene art, which turns the bachelorettes (who are proportioned normally as sprites) into such exaggerated chibi versions that they border on OffModel. Many were happy just to have new game content to enjoy, especially a plot that gives Micah a chance to genuinely love and care for his wife in contrast to his usual DeadpanSnarker tendencies, but it's a letdown that so little thought was put into the feature. One silver lining is that all episodes can be unlocked after marrying just one of the bachelorettes, in contrast to ''Rune Factory 4 Special,'' where a Newlywed Mode could only be unlocked after marrying that candidate.
* ThatOneAchievement:
** ''Special'' has two achievements that requires you to beat the final two areas of Sharance Maze: Dragon Ruins and Mystery Maze, both which are by far the toughest and [[MarathonLevel longest areas of the game]]. Even using the Holy Rosary trick you still have to fight nasty bosses and unless you have all but the top grade equipment you'll have little chance of beating these two challenges.
** Another difficult achievement is to ship every single item there is. Unlike the next games even ''Special'' does not keep track of whether you have shipped something or not and you must keep a manual list of your own if you are stuck at that LastLousyPoint.
* ThatOneAttack: Most bosses have one, especially after they TurnsRed. It either consist of a dangerous projectile spam or a singular attack that does a ton of damage.
** Raccoon has his leaf boomerang and a stomp attack that comes out with little warning.
** Skelefang has [[FlechetteStorm bone throw]] and the lightning sphere as it's reforming.
** Death Wall has the drill attack which is very hard to avoid and a potential OneHitKill if you're not severely overleveled or protected against water attacks.
** Greater Demon has five earth spike combo.
** Golem has a simple spinning arm attack that doesn't make your character flinch, but it hits you over and over and the boss keeps at it forever. While Golem is doing this it's very hard to sneak in attacks since it moves at a slow, but reasonable pace.
** Terrable has the meteor shower attack. It's not only strong, but covers almost the entire screen and hits so hard, so many times that even with proper protection it can get you from full health to almost KO'd. It doesn't help this attack has a high chance of causing Dizzy which gives Terrable another free shot at you.
** Fiersome has its tail spin which does a truckload of damage and comes with no warning if you're too close after it lands. On the second phase Fiersome has gigantic fire breath attacks that are all but OneHitKill unless you're wearing fire absorbing (not resistant, ''absorbing'') equipment and if that doesn't kill you? It might stun you which will have Fiersome most likely landing on top of you and ''then'' he'll launch the aforementioned tail spin attack.
* ThatOneBoss:
** Death Wall is a tough customer. It has several attacks that hurt a lot and are hard to dodge, on its second phase it detaches itself from the wall and starts using even more dangerous attacks like morphing into a giant sword or hammer. This is a boss that forces you to fight smart, use heavy elemental protection or level grind ''real'' hard to beat.
** Siren is a real handful to fight. She will always teleport from one location to another and her most common attack is her singing which causes all sorts of problematic StatusEffects on top of doing heavy damage. Attempting to fight her melee only, without Rune Abilities, is borderline suicidal and cheesing it with magic is difficult due to the boss having very high elemental resistance towards any type of damage.
** Golem is no slouch and the damn thing is so huge it takes a good portion of the screen. It's almost impervious to non-elemental damage and while it goes down quickly with powerful magic you have to kill it fast since if you get cornered by it chances are you'll be punted to clinic.
** Terrable lives up to its PunnyName. This boss has all that makes a boss difficult: it spams projectiles, can Paralyze and Poison you with its attacks, has a dangerous melee strike with ''very'' high critical chance and a nasty meteor shower that will KO anything that doesn't move away from its range in time.
** Fiersome manages to be even more dangerous due to the fact that it doesn't leave itself nearly as open to attack as Terrable. It constantly flies from one spot to another and wherever it lands it causes shockwaves that hurt quite a bit. Trying to spam magic is a no-go as the boss is highly resistant to all types of elemental damage and to top it all, every attack becomes even more dangerous once it TurnsRed.
* ThatOneSidequest: Getting 1st Place in any Festival is not an easy feat. Even the first one you face, the Bean Throwing Festival, requires ''a lot'' of memorization and quick reflexes in order to win. In every other festival you face some steep competition and unless you're familiar with the mechanics of them chances are you won't be getting that 1st place in your first attempt.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: A few in ''Special'':
** Many found the new voice acting in the ''Special'' release of the game to be a downgrade from the original version, with voice actors putting less passion and energy into the line readings, and some of the script changes were criticized for being LighterAndSofter and missing the original's sharp and wacky attitude in order to be more faithful to the original Japanese text. Daria falls victim to both, as her voice acting no longer involves her iconic LargeHam shouting, and her lines were changed to call Micah a "sidekick" instead of an "assistant," in general making her look like more of a fanciful weirdo than the serious (albeit goofy) artist she was in the original version.
*** Sofia was one of the most popular bachelorettes from the first game because of her extremely unique and colorful "opposite speak" conversations, but fans were disappointed to see many of her statements watered down in the remaster.
*** Bizarrely, many of the proposal sequences were severely truncated in the remaster, cutting the bachelorette's unique reaction and love confession in favor of generic "Yes, I love you too!"s. One sore spot was Daria's proposal, as her original proposal scene had her call Micah a partner instead of an assistant, while the remaster ignores this development. Carmen, curiously enough, is the only one whose lengthy proposal scene [[spoiler:and conversation after getting rescued from Aquaticus]] is kept largely intact.
** Due to the lack of multiplayer option the Sharance Maze no longer allows you to select a different character, one of the villagers, instead of Micah when adventuring into it. This means a bit less variety on these levels and you that cannot take advantage of their likes/dislikes in food preference if you played as them (i.e: Prelude to Love not reducing Pia's HP or Disastrous Dishes buffing and healing Sofia).
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The bachelorettes all have a moment in their arc where they confess insecurities or worries about their future to Micah, making them more well-rounded and sympathetic... And then there's Marian, whose worries that she'll never be a good or respected witch completely fall flat when her arc makes it ''abundantly'' clear that the townspeople are completely justified in being annoyed by or scared of her. She refuses to listen to anyone, drugs others so they'll do her bidding, forces harmful, experimental medication without consent, and never breaks any of these patterns, even in her post-marriage Newlywed Mode and Another Story.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: Micah and Rusk. More than one person was fooled into thinking they were girls at first, and honestly, [[{{Bishounen}} can you blame them?]]
* TheWoobie:
** Raven. Let's see: First, she talks about being cursed. Then she reveals that her friends tend to vanish. Then reveals that [[spoiler:she's half-phoenix and is really lonely]]. Then you take her on a date to the waterfall and she mentions she's never had a family and is obviously lonely. It's ''really'' hard not to marry her after that one. She's also clingy towards you, constantly asking you to reaffirm your love for her and fearing you'll stop loving her. More than one random conversation gives Multiple choices that [[IWasJustJoking include a joke answer]], and she VERY CLEARLY doesn't take the jokes well.
** Pia, too, though it's a little more subtle. She loves Shino and Sakuya like family, but her dialogue and DullEyesOfUnhappiness strongly indicate that she carries a deep inner sadness. She can't remember her life before coming to Sharance except for one dream she always wakes up from crying. She also wants to be friends with all the fish of the world (except the squids) but she can't communicate with them, which made her very lonely before Shino and Sakuya reached out to her. Plus, she can't even seem to ''register'' her own sadness, only that her chest "prickles" when she sees happy families in the bathhouse.
** Daria, of all people, has a Woobie moment in her post-marriage dates, as she grows concerned with the possibility of outliving Micah due to the long lives of elves. Fortunately, this is one instance where the player ''doesn't'' have the chance to have Micah say something [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential hurtful]] or give a joke answer, and he assures Daria that, no matter what, he'll always be with her.
