* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: Despite Savage repeatedly offering to help put over new talent, [=McMahon=] relegated the Macho Man to commentary in early 1994, feeling that he was too old to put on solid matches or draw crowds. Savage would promptly jump ship to WCW, showing that he still had what it took to captivate an audience, even winning Pro Wrestling Illustrated's "Comeback of the Year" in 1995.
* AudienceAlienatingEra:
** The fact that he actually used the Music/VillagePeople's "Macho Man" as entrance music earlier in his career.
** His stint as the "Macho King," complete with a crown and Sensational Queen Sherri by his side, is considered by many to be the low point in his WWE run. The promos were fun; the matches [[GimmickMatches were not.]]
** The 1999 Team Madness Savage as mentioned below is regarded as the weakest part of his WCW run.
** His TNA run, where he was clearly too hurt to work anymore.
* BadassDecay:
** His matches in 1999 WCW weren't very good, as [[DentedIron age and injuries started to take their inevitable toll]].
** Savage v. [[Wrestling/BrutusBeefcake "Ed Brutus Booty Furface Barber Disciple Butcher Clipmaster Dizzy Golden Boulder Bruddah Bruti Zodiac Beefcake-Leslie]]" on an April 29th episode of ''Thunder''. Not even ''Nitro'' -- the B-Show. Post-match, Randy and his (three!) valets celebrated in the ring, overlooking the fact that it took interference from three bimbos to beat ''Ed Leslie'' of all people.
* CrazyIsCool: His promos were utterly insane with him often not making much sense. However, the intensity of said promos was a sight to behold and, even to this day, are some of the most memorable ever cut. Also, he let a (devenomised) cobra bite him on the arm as part of his feud with Jake Roberts. '''NO ONE''' could cut a promo like the Macho Man.
* DracoInLeatherPants:
** Any time he was a heel after 1987, the worst he ever got was mixed reactions. He was still cheered as a heel in the nWo or his Team Madness gimmicks.
** It was also inverted when he first turned face; heel announcer Wrestling/JesseVentura was infamous for belittling faces any chance he could, but for whatever reason would sing the Madness's praises more often than not.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The ending of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFIa9lTrJng this video]], which was released as a spoof some months before his death.
** The heartwarming courtship/marriage angle between Savage and Elizabeth, fondly remembered by many wrestling fans, was happening as their real life marriage was crumbling.
** Savage's death happens on the same day the original Slim Jim factory closed down.
** By the end of his WWF run Savage's onscreen persona became a frustrated Lion In Winter who was unhappy about being stuck in the broadcasting booth and wanted to keep wrestling. It wasn't an act and a fed up Savage ended up quitting over it.
** [[https://youtu.be/PKDRU5IagHY Savage threatening to bring down the Twin Towers]]. Granted, he was talking about the tag team, but still.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** The [[http://i.imgur.com/3LBuvmp.jpg Randy Poffo baseball card]], which reads on the back: "Has improved his swing by dropping his elbow.".
** The snake that bit Savage in his feud with Jake Roberts ended up dying shortly after biting Savage. Well, waay later, this phrase got hilarious because actually, Savage did this first: [[Website/ChuckNorrisFacts "Chuck Norris was once bitten by a poisonous snake. After three days of excruciating pain, the cobra died."]]
** During one of his many appearances on ''Series/TheArsenioHallShow'' in 1992, Arsenio Hall suggested that Randy make a rap album. Fast forward eleven years...
** During his attempts to make it as a baseball player, Savage was forbidden from doing non-baseball sports activities as part of his contract. His workaround was to wrestle under a mask, calling himself The Spider. [[Film/SpiderMan1 Fast forward a few decades...]]
* MemeticMutation:
** The ''[[http://wheresrandysavage.tumblr.com/ Where's Randy Savage?]]'' blog, which features images where the Macho Man's photoshopped into various scenes, such as ''Film/BillAndTedsExcellentAdventure'', ''Franchise/{{Predator}}'' and ''Franchise/StarWars'' -- as well as various famous real life photographs.
** Became something of an AscendedMeme when Randy Savage was actually spotted sitting in the crowd behind home base at a Mets game.
** And then [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlJULk0f9xA this ]]''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim'' mod was released.
** "''[[Film/SpiderMan1 BOOOONESAAAAW IS READYYYY!!]]''"
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiPcEoip6ZI SEND FOR THE MAN!]]", when someone is caught {{corpsing}}.
** "'''''[[Website/{{Botchamania}} I'VE BEEN IN THE DANGER ZONE!!!!]]'''''"
** When there was the May 21, 2011 doomsday hoax, Randy Savage's death, which happened the day before, was allegedly responsible for "averting" the apocalypse. Hence, "Macho Man: he died for your sins!"
** His alliance with Sid Vicious in WCW spawned the meme “that was not only Savage but also Vicious”.
** The resurgence of the use of the word savage as slang in TheNewTens has spawned memes of Randy in response to comments considered such.
** "[[https://youtu.be/hUxY2Tz6spE ART THOU BORED]]", a {{Fanvid}} of one of his Slim Jim ads largely popularized by LetsPlay/ProtonJon.
** The famous "Cream Of The Crop" promo is effectively a FountainOfMemes due to several lines from it ("The cream of the crop/The cream will rise to the top", "Unjustifiably in a position that I'd rather not be in", "Nothing means nothing") being highly memorable quotes in their own right.
* MemeticBadass: Due to the timing of his death, Savage is cited as having prevented the Rapture via Diving Elbow Drop on Jesus.
* MemeticMolester: There was a wrestling urban legend which claimed that Savage was released from the WWF in 1994 because he bedded a then-17-year-old [[Wrestling/StephanieMcMahon Stephanie [=McMahon=]]]. This endured largely thanks to a video Savage put on his website in response to insults thrown at him by HHH.
-->'''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzFC0RcefS8 Randy Savage]]''': ...and, uh, Wrestling/TripleH, you already know that I'm gonna bitch-slap you, and take your girl, Stephanie [=McMahon=]!
* NarmCharm:
** Many of the outfits he wore were ridiculous and too flamboyant, sometimes completely effeminate (particularly the cowboy ones of the 1990s), but he was so macho that he somehow made them look manly as hell.
---> "[[http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YXphjtN-oZg/TsA2L72L4dI/AAAAAAAAB1M/hyJ980_aA3Q/s1600/macho-man-randy-savage-macho-man-randy-savage-tribute-demotivational-posters+slim+jim+rip+elizabeth+epic+rap+battles+hall+of+fame.jpeg A real man can wear sequins and bright colors and still make you wish you were him.]]"
** No other wrestler could have been taken seriously while using "Pomp and Circumstance" aka. "the graduation song" as their entrance music.
* OlderThanTheyThink:
** Wrestling/PamperoFirpo used a drawn-out [[BigYes "OOOOH YEAHHH!"]] as his CatchPhrase long before Savage started using it. Although their versions are slightly different,as Firpo emphasized the "OOOOH" more whereas Savage emphasized the "YEAHHH" more. Savage's brother Lanny Poffo got the idea from an old Pampero Firpo promo and suggested Randy use it.
** The original GorgeousGeorge, Wrestling/GeorgeWagner first used "Pomp and Circumstance" as his entrance music and was actually the first to bring entrance music to wrestling (not the Freebirds, though they did bring rock music to wrestling). Savage actually used the song as a tribute to George, as he was Savage’s idol and also a friend of his father Angelo. Savage didn’t allow the song to be played at his funeral as he felt guilty that he overshadowed George’s popularity.
* SoBadItsGood: His rap CD. [[VindicatedByHistory It's been looked upon more favorably]] [[DeadArtistsAreBetter now that he's passed on.]]
