* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Scott's Dad was probably the darkest horse to become as popular as he did with the fanbase, but his appearances stopped as his real-life descent into dementia got worse. [[note]]Save for a few strips explaining what had happened to him[[/note]]
** Val Bronzebottom, a diminutive role-player who lives her life as if she were an actual dwarf battle maiden in a Fantasy RPG. She's even dating Skull, a proper fantasy troll.
--->'''Skull:''' I brought you egg salad!\
'''Val:''' (gasp) Dwarves LOVE egg salad!
* HarsherInHindsight: [[http://pvponline.com/comic/give-and-take This comic]] became somewhat uncomfortable with the [[https://kotaku.com/wildstar-developer-carbine-studios-shuts-down-1828862729 shutdown]] of Carbine Studios along with VideoGame/WildStar in 2018.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** An early strip has Skull take over from Robbie for a while, wearing his hat. After Robbie comes back, Skull refuses to give it back unless he's given another hat to replace it. "Make it a really cool hat". DescriptionCut to Skull wearing a fez. [[Series/DoctorWho After all, fezzes are cool]].
** This was lampshaded in a 2011 strip where Skull gets out his old fez and announces that Creator/MattSmith has made them cool again.
** ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'' [[http://www.pvponline.com/comic/2002/07/09/tue-jul-09 can't work as a comic]]? [[ComicBook/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicIDW Are]] [[ComicBook/MyLittlePonyMicroSeries you]] [[ComicBook/MyLittlePonyFriendsForever sure]]?
* [[HoYay Les Yay]]:
** Brent mistakes Jade and Miranda for this at Miranda's introduction to the comic.
** Also occurs when Jade creates her own women's only magazine. See ThanksForTheMammary.
* MemeticMutation: '''[[http://www.pvponline.com/my-parents-are-dead Batman's parents are DEEEEEAAAAD!]]'''
* TheScrappy: Skull's cousin Schecky. Lampshaded when he reappeared for Thanksgiving 2012, with a cartoony "Aww Hell! Shecky's Back!" title card.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Several of Kurtz' plots build up an impressive and possibly even grandiose story arc, only to fizzle out on a short anticlimax. Take for example Robbie's brewing company, Brent's deal with the devil, or the developer that tried to bribe them into giving a good review of his game, all plots which could have been fantastic if not for the fact that Kurtz apparently chickened out right when he got to the hook. Not to mention the possibility that Francis and Marcy had been drugged by Glamrock Games so they wouldn't spoil the (possibly) pre-arranged outcome of the gaming tournament in Vegas.
